DANVILLE, Va. - Eva Roberts Guill, 83, of 156 Forestdale Drive, Hill Top Gardens Apartments, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Duke Medical Center, Durham, N.C., after nine weeks of declining health in the hospital.
Born May 24, 1916, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of John Roberts and Bessie Moorefield Roberts.
She was married
on Nov. 7, 1941, to Thomas Weldon Guill, who predeceased her on Nov. 5, 1979. She was a member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church, the Senior Citizens Choir, and the Golden Charms Club. She lived her entire life in Danville, and was retired from F.W. Woolworths Inc.
Survivors include one son, Paul Roberts Guill of Charleston, W.Va.; three sisters, Lizzie R. Tate and Hester R. Hall, both of Danville, and Victoria R. Myers of Gretna; four granddaughters, one great-grandson and one step-great-grandson.
She was predeceased by a son, Weldon Vaden Guill
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from Laurel Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Chris Griggs officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
The family received friends from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel.
Thelma Burch Murphy
DANVILLE, Va. - Thelma Burch Murphy, formerly of 53 Stokesland Ave., died Thursday, May 4, 2000, in Riverside Health Care Center.
Born on April 23, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Joseph Garrett Burch and Serena Frances Fuller Burch.
She was married
to Sam Louis Murphy, who predeceased her on Aug. 2, 1991.
Survivors include one daughter, Beatrice Murphy Maness of Pleasant Garden, N.C.; two half-sisters, Edith Burch and Ercelle Nichols, both of Danville, a half-brother, Alton Burch of Danville; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Schoolfield Baptist Church by the Rev. David Turbyfill.
Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Saturday night at Townes Funeral Home from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Bennie Oliver
DANVILLE, Va. - Bennie David Oliver, 72, of 724 Olivers Lane in Sutherlin died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 4, 1927 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Oscar Oliver and Sallie Glass Oliver.
He was employed at Dan River Inc.
He is survived by this father, Oscar Oliver; one daughter, Maryland Dyke of Roanoke; one sister, Gloria Ordgen of Baxley, Ga.; three brothers, Lawrence Oliver of Danville, Joe Oliver of Sutherlin, and John Oscar Oliver Jr. of Washington, and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of the Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roderick Fitz officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Lenna Henderson Swanson
DANVILLE, Va. - Lenna Henderson Swanson died Friday, May 5, 2000, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born on November 24, 1912 on the family farm in Keeling, Va., she was the youngest child of the late John James Henderson and the late Lucy Midkiff Henderson.
She was a member of the North Main Baptist Church in Danville and was a former member of Moffet Memorial Baptist Church in Danville and Oak Grove Baptist Church in Keeling, Va.
Swanson lived her entire life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. She retired from Dan River Mills in 1975.
Her husband W. Clarence Swanson preceded her in death on January, 1974.
She is survived by one son, William "W.C." Swanson, Jr. of Danville, Va.; two nieces, June Henderson Ford of Danville and Lynn Henderson Powell of Kill Devils Hill, N.C.; two nephews, Samuel Madison Henderson of Halifax and Wesley Kyle Henderson of Richmond, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Christine S. Henderson, formerly of Keeling, Va., and Alicia B. Henderson of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina; one great niece, Katherine Taylor Henderson of Richmond, Virginia; seven great nephews, Zachary Kyle Henderson of Richmond, Virginia, Stephen Matthew Henderson of Halifax, Virginia, Christopher Ryan Henderson of Halifax, Virginia, William F. Scott of Danville, Virginia, Kenneth P. Scott, Jr. of Richmond, Virginia, and Kevin R. Ford of Blairs, Virginia.
She was the last surviving member of her nine brothers and sisters, Woodye Hartwell Henderson of Keeling, Cullen Ray Henderson of Paces, Va., Andrew Madison "Mack " Henderson of Keeling, Va., Roy Pritchett Henderson of Virginia Beach, Va., Jasper "Jack" Conrad Henderson of Richmond, Va., Addie Henderson Williams Barker of Danville, Grace Henderson Lester of Danville and Bessie Henderson Hodnett of Danville.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with Rev. Kyle Flora officiating. Interment
will be in the Highland Burial Park.

Otis Clifton Vaughan
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Otis Clifton Vaughan, Sr., 63, of 406 Oak Lane, died May 5, 2000 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
He was born in Halifax County, on May 11, 1936, and was the son of Herbert Watkins Vaughan and Susie Wilbourn Vaughan.
Vaughan was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by, one son, Otis C. Vaughan Jr. of South Boston; one daughter, Vickie Lynn Vaughan of Alton; three sisters, Emma V. Bass of Liberty, N.C., Barbara V. Conner of South Boston, Jane V. Hammack of Altavista; and one brother, Thomas Vaughan of Alton.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Rudolph Jacobs conducting the service. Burial will be at the Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Saturday from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home of his daughter at 2084 Horseshoe Trail, Cluster Springs.
Chris Williams
DANVILLE, Va. - Chris Williams, 56, of Tennessee died in December 1999.
He had been in declining health since injured in an explosion about two years ago.
Williams lived his entire life in the mountains of East Tennesse and had no living relatives.
A memorial service will be held Sunday from Whitmell United Methodist Church, with Rev. Donald M. Warrick, Jr.
Ruth Willis
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Ruth Willis, 87, of 6211 Roanoke Ave., died May 4 at the Riverside Convalescent Nursing Home.
Born on March 14, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Chesley H. Willis and Lucy Ann Riddle Willis.
She was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church, where she was a member of the Willing Workers class, former secretary of the class and a member of the church choir.
She worked at Anderson Brothers Manufacturing as a seamtress until her retirement.
She is survived by one brother, Chesley P. Willis of Ventura, Calif.; three sisters, Eunice W. Bradley of Newcastle, Del., Verna W. Green of Newport News, and Mamie W. Martin of Newport News, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Barker Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m on Monday with Rev. Freddie Vicks officiating. Burial will be at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Avis Willis at 146 Guilford St.
Lawrence Wilson
DANVILLE, Va. - Lawrence "Spookie" Wilson, 70, formerly of 2004 Malmaison Road in Blairs died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at the Stratford Health Center.
Born Aug. 9, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Norman Wilson and Mable Farmer Wilson.
He was married
to Rosie Warner Wilson, who predeceased him.
He was employed as a roofer with A.S. Pugh Roofing Company for many years.
He is survived by three daughters, Rosalyne Mimms of Danville, Debbie A. Griffin of Blairs, Cheryl E. Wilson of Altanta; three sons, Gary E. Wilson of Blairs, Byron L. Wilson of Chicago, and Cleo T. Wilson of Danville; three sisters, Lottie Harper and Juanita Chambers, both of Danville and Inez Adams of Blairs; and one brother, Cornelius Wilson of Bronx, N.Y.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Bibleway World Cathedral with the Apostle Laurence Campbell officiating. Interment
will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.

Bettye Bohannon
DANVILLE, Va. Bettye Wyatt Bohannon, 61, formerly of 232 Haymore St., died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after seven years of declining health and a five-year stay in the nursing home.
Born April 1, 1939, in Danville, she was a daughter of Lemuel Otis Taylor and Virginia Apple Taylor.
She was first married
to Garland W. Wyatt, who predeceased her May 7, 1984, and later married
William Henry Bohannon, who survives. She had made her home in Danville all of her life where she was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of Roman Eagle, survivors include four sons, Jim W. Wyatt, David F. Wyatt, and Billy M. Wyatt, all of Danville, and Bobby L. Wyatt of Blairs; four sisters, Nellie Nuckols, Nancy Matherly, and Hazel Lazouras, all of Danville, and Linda Bray of Eden, N.C.; four brothers, Billy Taylor, John Taylor, and Robert Taylor, all of Danville, and David Taylor of Greensboro, N.C., and five grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, G. Wayne Wyatt.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Ewing officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

William Davis
RINGGOLD, Va. William Hite Davis, 75, of 749 Chaney Store Road, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at his residence after 10 years of declining health.
Born Feb. 14, 1925, in Danville, he was a son of Miles Davis and Lula Todd Davis.
He was married
to Peggy Gauldin Davis, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy, serving four years in each during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He made his home in the Ringgold community for the past year. He worked for Dan River Inc. for 35 years and was a member of the V.F.W. Post 647.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include one daughter, Rebecca Davis Wilkerson of Danville; three sons, William Roger Davis, Lloyd Jefferson Davis and Anthony Curtis Davis, all of Ringgold; one half-brother, Arnie Chilton of Pelham, N.C.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Wallace and Gregory Nunley officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery where military honors will be performed by the Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard.

Henrietta Hunt
DANVILLE, Va. Henrietta Ferrell Hunt, 99, of 300 Wilkerson Road, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at the Stratford House.
Born Aug. 27, 1900, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Rorer Ferrell.
She was married
to James Hunt. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, James R. Hunt Sr. and Richard C. Hunt Sr., both of Danville; one brother, Colander Younger of Danville; one sister, Irene Hatchett of Baltimore; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Arthur Crews officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residences of her sons, 196 & 197 Kentuck Road.
