Thomas Olney McCausey
LONG BEACH, Calif. Thomas Olney McCausey died on May 5, 2000, in Saint Mary's Hospital in Long Beach after declining health of several months.
Born November 3, 1935, in Brighton, Mich., he was a son of the late Raymond J. McCausey and Elizabeth Ormsby McCausey, who survives.
He was married
to Lois Gauldin McCausey, who survives.
Mr. McCausey had lived in the Tidewater area of Virginia while serving with the U.S. Marines. After serving with the Marines he lived in Norfolk where he worked as a Norfolk City Policeman prior to moving to Long Beach, Calf. where he had lived for the past 20 years. He was retired from the Long Shoreman. Mr. McCausey was of the Christian Faith.
In addition to his wife of Ringgold, Va., survivors include one son, Thomas O. McCausey Jr. of Norfolk, Va.; one daughter, Dara M. Brinson of Long Beach; his mother, Elizabeth O. McCausey of Brighton, Mich.; his mother-in-law, Florence R. Gauldin of Ringgold, Va., and two granddaughters, Shanee Brinson and Samara Brinson, both of Long Beach.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at the Seafarer's Union Hall in Long Beach, Calf. at a later date.
Cremains will be committed to the Deep of the Pacific Ocean.
Jean McKenzie
WASHINGTON Jean Carrol McKenzie, 45, of 1223 Migs Place N.E., and formerly of 7145 Strawberry Road, Chatham, Va., died Wedmesday, May 3, 2000, at the Washington Hospital Center.
Born April 8, 1955, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of Joshua David McKenzie, who survives, and Gladys Hamlett McKenzie.
She was a 1974 graduate of Tunstall High School and a member of the Union Hall Baptist Church.
In addition to her father of Danville, survivors include her step mother, Virginia Mozell McKenzie of Chatham; a brother, Bobby Hamlett of Maryland; one half-sister, Janet McKenzie of Washington, and one stepsister, Vickie Harris of Chatham, Va.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Union Hall Baptist Church with the Rev. Sherman Craft officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
There will be a viewing from noon until the time of the funeral on Tuesday at the church. The family will receive friends at the residence of Virginia Mozell McKenzie, 7145 Strawberry Road, Chatham, Virginia.

Hazel Bartee
DANVILLE, Va. - Hazel J. Bartee, 81, of 221 Eagle Lane died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at her residence.
Born April 7, 1919, in Roundoak, Ga., she was the daughter of Albert E. Jackson and Myrtice McElheney Jackson.
She was married
to James Aubrey Bartee, who predeceased her in 1995. She worked for 15 years as a bookeeper with the Nolan Company, retiring in 1980. She was a member of Grace Design United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Lester D. Bartee of Dry Fork and Austin J. Bartee of Grafton; two daughters, Amy Talbott of Danville and Alice Eppler of Pratt, Kan.; two brothers, Marcus Jackson of Danville and Daniel Jackson of Hampton; two sisters, Virginia Wrenn of Matthews, N.C., and Myranelle Clark Burch of Eastman, Ga.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Holcomb-McLean officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Barker Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
William Davis
RINGGOLD, Va. William Hite Davis, 75, of 749 Chaney Store Road, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at his residence after 10 years of declining health.
Born Feb. 14, 1925, in Danville, he was a son of Miles Davis and Lula Todd Davis.
He was married
to Peggy Gauldin Davis, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy, serving four years in each during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He made his home in the Ringgold community for the past year. He worked for Dan River Inc. for 35 years and was a member of the V.F.W. Post 647.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include one daughter, Rebecca Davis Wilkerson of Danville; three sons, William Roger Davis, Lloyd Jefferson Davis and Anthony Curtis Davis, all of Ringgold; one half-brother, Arnie Chilton of Pelham, N.C.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Wallace and Gregory Nunley officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery where military honors will be performed by the Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Henrietta Hunt
DANVILLE, Va. Henrietta Ferrell Hunt, 99, of 300 Wilkerson Road, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at the Stratford House.
Born Aug. 27, 1900, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Rorer Ferrell.
She was married
to James Hunt. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, James R. Hunt Sr. and Richard C. Hunt Sr., both of Danville; one brother, Colander Younger of Danville; one sister, Irene Hatchett of Baltimore; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Arthur Crews officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residences of her sons, 196 & 197 Kentuck Road.

Willie Jones
DANVILLE, Va. Willie Allen Jones, 96, formerly of the Laniers Mill Road community, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Riverside Health Care Center, where he had resided for the past three years. He had been in declining health for the past five years.
Born May 3, 1904, in Henry County, he was a son of the late Bennie James Jones and Lillie Pulliam Jones.
He was married
to Nellie Walton Jones, who predeceased him in 1991. He had spent most of his life in Pittsylvania County where he was a farmer. He was a lifetime member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church where he was a deacon for a number of years and a member of the Men's Bible Class of the church and served as president of the class for a number of years.
Survivors include one daughter, Gladys Jones Hopkins of Eden, N.C.; one son, Robert N. Jones of Danville; one sister, Melba J. Coleman of Danville; one brother, Hugh Jones of Eden, N.C.; 18 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sons, Wallace Jones and Bobby Jones, and three brothers and four sisters.
A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dan View cemetery in Eden, N.C. with the Rev. Don Davidson, Ron Pruitt, and Johnny Jones.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of his son, Robert Jones at 560 B Jones Road.
Iris Willis Marley
DANVILLE, Va. Iris Willis Marley, 82, of 214 Brightwell Drive, Danville, VA., died Saturday, May 6, 200 at her residence; following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Marley was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia on January 2, 1918. The daughter of James Jackson Willis and Mary Lucy Jackson Willis.
She worked in sales for L. Hermans, Thalhimers and Pettys for 20 years before retiring. She was of the Methodist faith and a homemaker.
Mrs. Marley is survived by her husband, James Glenn Marley, Sr. of the home.
Other survivors include: 3 sons, James Glenn Marley, Jr. of Danville, VA., William Don Marley of Yanceyville, N.C., Willis Ray Marley of Decatar, IL., 1 sister, Mildred W. Williams of Greensboro, N.C. 3 grandsons and three granddaughters.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA., by Rev. Darrell Joyce. The family will receive friends at the residence from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Monday.

Guy Brumfield
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Guy Odie Brumfield, 91, of Rustburg died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in Goodwin House in Alexandria.
Born March 20, 1909, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late George Brumfield and Sallie Bowling Brumfield.
He was the husband of the late Alice Brumfield. Mr. Brumfield was a charter member and former deacon of Thomas Road Baptist Church, he devoted his life to the service of Christ Jesus.
He was a retired employee of Burlington Mills and a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by two daughters and their families, Donna Quist (Capt. USAF) of Yokota Air Base, Japan, and Sharon Scranton of Alexandria; granddaughters, Carolyn Brockwell of Richmond and Beverly Ann Allen of Rustburg; one sister, Sally Purdy of Gretna; three brothers, Jim Brumfield, Loyd Brumfield and Lonnie Brumfield, all of Gretna; their families and many other relatives all from Gretna.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Dr. Jerry Falwell. The Rev. Jim Critchley will provide a message in song. Interment
with military honors by VFW Post No. 46 and DAV Chapter 46 will follow in the Brumfield family cemetery.

John Dalton
ROANOKE, Va. - John "Johnny" Lee Dalton Jr., 68 of Roanoke died Sunday, May 7, 2000.
He was a native of Danville, a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of A.M.V.E.T.S. Post No. 40.
He retired from A&P after 33 years of service and retired from the city of Roanoke with 14 years of service.
He worked with the Roanoke Civic Center after retiring.
He was predeceased by his parents, John Lee and Betty Smith Dalton.
He was married
for 41 years to Elsie "Kelly" Davis Dalton, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, John Lee Dalton III, of Virginia Beach; one daughter, Betty Clement Pugh; two brothers, William E. Dalton of Richmond and Harvey L Daton of Danville; two sisters, Mildred Brown Kinney of Sapphire Valley, N.C., and Ailiene Yates of Richmond; and three grandchildren.
A private service will be held Chapel of Light Mausoleum, Evergreen Burial Park with the Rev. Frank W. Feathers officiating.
The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
Martha Gordon
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Martha Arrington Gordon, 88, of 2208 East Hyco Road, died Monday, May 8, 2000 at Boston Commons.
Born July 8, 1911, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of William T. Arrington and Tina Hailey Arrington.
She was married
to Joe L. Jenkins Sr. and then to Henry Stebbins Gordon, both of whom predeceased her.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Jenkins-Gravitt Circle. She was also a member of the Tuesday Woman's Club.
She was a seamstress at Leggett's.
Survivors include one son, Joe L. Jenkins of South Boston; one daughter, Ann J. Parker of Wilmington, N.C.; two granddaughters, Vicki L. Jenkins of Danville and Maria P. Costello of Durham, N.C.; two grandsons, William F. Parker of Pittsboro, N.C. and Joe 'Joey' L. Jenkins III of South Boston.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert M. Fox Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
