Willie Jones
DANVILLE, Va. - Willie Allen Jones, 96, formerly of the Laniers Mill Road community, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Riverside Health Care Center, where he had resided for the past three years. He had been in declining health for the past five years.
Born May 3, 1904, in Henry County, he was a son of the late Bennie James Jones and Lillie Pulliam Jones.
He was married
to Nellie Walton Jones, who predeceased him in 1991. He had spent most of his life in Pittsylvania County where he was a farmer. He was a lifetime member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church where he was a deacon for a number of years and a member of the Men's Bible Class of the church and served as president of the class for a number of years.
Survivors include one daughter, Gladys Jones Hopkins of Eden, N.C.; one son, Robert N. Jones of Danville; one sister, Melba J. Coleman of Danville; one brother, Hugh Jones of Eden, N.C.; 18 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sons, Wallace Jones and Bobby Jones, and three brothers and four sisters.
A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dan View cemetery in Eden, N.C. with the Rev. Don Davidson, Ron Pruitt, and Johnny Jones.
The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home, and will receive friends at other times at the residence of his son, Robert Jones at 560 B Jones Road.
Margaret Walker
ALTON, Va. - Margaret Talbott Walker, 78, of 3026 Harmony Road, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 4, 1921, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Otis M. Talbott Sr. and Nannie Womack Talbott.
She was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher of the primary class for many years and a member of the United Methodist Woman. She also served as a volunteer for the Good Samaritan. She was a homemaker. She was married
to Edward Owen Walker Sr., who predeceased her.
Survivors include one son, Edward O. Walker Jr. of Alton; one sister, Edith T. Wilkerson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one brother Otis M. Talbott Jr. of South Boston; one grandson; two stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harmony United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Lavenia Yeatts
CHATHAM, Va. - Lavenia Kate Stowe Yeatts, 90, of 1500 Jones Mills Road, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, 7:15 p.m. at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born February 12, 1910, in Dry Fork, she was the daughter of Craig Henson Stowe and Maude Green Stowe.
She had been a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church for 78 years.
She was a member of the Old Ladies Class and the United Methodist Women. She was known by everyone as a Prayer Warrior.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by four brothers, Forrest Stowe, Lawrence Stowe, Harry Stowe and Clyde Stowe; and three sisters, Edna S. Gibson, Evelyn Stowe and Nellie S. Yeatts.
She was married
to Eury Dennis Yeatts on December 25, 1917. He died May 14, 1994.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Kenneth and Betty H. Yeatts of Dry Fork; five daughters, Lois Y. Harding of the residence, Nancy Y. Stokes of Danville, Norma Y. Willard of Cascade, Kathy Yeatts of the residence and Sandra Y Wilkerson and her husband, Ray W. Willkerson of Dry Fork; two brothers, Craig Stowe of Danville and Curtis Stowe of Eden, N.C.; one sister, Lillie S. Yeatts of Chatham; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hopewell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clay Knick officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hopewell United Methodist Church and at other times at the residence.

Beatrice Baker
DANVILLE, Va. - Beatrice Roberts Baker, 64, of 64 Schoolfield Drive, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after two years of declining health.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was the last member of her family's generation.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from Mountain View cemetery.

Terry Cashen
DANVILLE, Va. - Terry Cashen, who was born December 7, 1945, died Monday afternoon May 8th. He was the son of Wilford and Dorothy Cashen.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer Samuels Cashen of Danville; a brother, Richard Benson, his sisters, Alice Young, Gloria McCarthy, and Dorothy Kessler all of upstate New York.
A private memorial service will be held for family and friends.

Etta Burgess Clay
GRETNA, Va. - Vera Etta Burgess Clay, 75, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in Gretna Health Care Center.
Born March 3, 1925, in Campbell County, she was a daughter of James Otis Burgess Sr. and Vera Elizabeth Burnette Burgess.
She was married
to Johnnie C. Clay, who predeceased her. She was a member of the Gretna Church of God of Prophecy and was a retired custodian for the Pittsylvania County Schools.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, James Burgess Jr. and Paul L. Burgess.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth C. Clay of Asheboro, N.C.; two sisters, Ora Henderson of Madison Heights, Va., and Elva Millner of Altavista, Va.; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Gretna Church of God of Prophecy, with Rev. Jack Kivett and Rev. Harry Moser officiating. Interment
will follow in Altavista Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
Jerene Fox
PHILADELPHIA - Jerene Fox, 75, of 2150 Natrona St., died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at her residence.
Born April 6, 1925, in Danville, she was a daughter of Daisy Brandon Bradshaw and Otis Hairston.
She was married
to James Fox, who survives. She was a member of the Greater Refuge Church in Christ and prior to her retirement she was a nurse at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by a sister, Josephine Jeffers of Danville, and three additional sisters.
A funeral will be held Monday evening at the Greater Refuge Church in Christ in Philadelphia.

Ronald Harris
MARTINSVILLE, Va. -Ronald Wayne "Ronnie" Harris, 57, of 157 Lancer Lane, Martinsville, died Monday, May 8, 2000 at N.C. Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C.
Born May 4, 1943 in Draper, N.C., he was a son of Jackson Belvin Harris and Louise Lillard Harris.
He was married
to Judy Prillaman Harris, who survives. He was co-owner of Chatmoss Auto Parts & Services Inc. He served in the U.S. Army and was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survives by a sister, Brenda Harris of Eden, N.C.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from Collins Funeral Chapel, Bassett, with Rev. Thomas Wright officiating. Interment
will follow in the Prillaman Family cemetery.

Alice Marlowe
CALLANDS, Va. - Alice Elizabeth Marlowe age 82 of 2557 Robinhood Road Callands, Virginia died May 9, 2000 at her residence in Callands. Miss Marlowe was born January 7, 1918 in Pittsylvania County Virginia.
She was the daughter of the late William David Marlow and Mary Giles Marlow. She is survived by two sister, Callie M. Wells and Eva Marlow Atkins both of Callands; one brother, Hassell G. Marlowe of Callands. She was predeceased by three sisters and four brothers, Elsie M. Gauldin, Mary Rebecca Gauldin, Nannie M. Hankins, Harvey Marlowe, H.L Marlowe, Henry Marlowe, and Arthur Marlowe. She was a member of County Line Christian Church. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday May 11, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. from the County Line Christian Church by Dean Ashby, Minister and J.D. Hunt III, Minister. Interment
will be in the County Line Christian Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday May 10 at County Line Christian Church and at other times will be at the residence of her nephew Glenn Marlowe 2561 Robinhood Road, Callands, Va.

Rhoda Stephens Setliff
DANVILLE, Va. - Rhoda Frances Stephens Setliff, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in Danville Regional Medical Center after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Rhoda, the daughter of the late William M. Stephens and Bertha B. Stephens, was born January 30, 1943.
She was a life long, beloved member of Keen Street Baptist Church, where she was a devoted worker having been a member of the choir, choir director, Church Clerk, Sunday School Teacher, and shared her talents in so many ways.
She was last employed with the Danville Redevelopment & Housing Authority in the Section 8 Division.
In addition to her mother, Bertha B. Stephens, those left to cherish her memory are her brother, William M. Stephens, Jr. of Woodstock, Ga.; her sons, Stuart K. Setliff of Danville, Stephen T. Setliff; her grandson Damon W. Setliff; and her special friends Antony and Sandra Harding of Ohio and Judy Bridges of Danville.
Her loved ones will receive friends 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 9th at Keen Street Baptist Church (on the corner of Keen Street and Church Street). The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, May 10 at 11 a.m. from Keen Street Baptist CHurch by the Reverend Thomas Brown. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.

Kevin Thrower
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Kevin Michael Thrower, 21, of 6124 East Hyco Road, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 1, 1978 in Greensboro, N.C., he was a son of Jeff William Thrower and Donna Friddle Thrower, both of whom survive.
He was a student at Averett College, and a member of the Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents of South Boston, he is survived by a brother, William Cody Thrower of South Boston; and three grandparents, Lois and Weldon Thrower, both of South Boston and Alice Friddle of Greensboro, N.C.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from Shady Grove United Methodist Church, with Rev. Don Davidson officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
