DRY FORK, Va. - Matthew "Mack" Nelson Evans, 72, of 6496 Dry Fork Road died Thursday, May 25, 2000, in Duke Medical Center, after a 4-day stay in the hospital.
Born April 8, 1928, in the Witt community of Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Andrew Nelson Evans and Elsie Clay Evans.
On Dec. 23, 1954, he was married
to Nancy Wallace Evans, who survives. He had lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County, most of it in the Dry Fork community. He had retired from Dan River Inc. where he had worked as a fixer in the former Riverside Division. He served with the United States Army.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Matthew Nelson Evans III of the residence; three daughters, Vickie E. Hastings and Judy E. Hearp, both of Dry Fork, and Pattie E. Pickeral of Danville; one brother, Roger Evans of Blairs; one sister, Mary Lou Evans of Blairs; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Emma E. Hardy and Sarah E. Lewis, and two brothers, Jesse Evans and Henry Evans.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Mike Hearp, the Rev. Charles Arnold and the Rev. Cecil Coates officiating. Interment
will folow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, at Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church, and other times at the residence.

Fredrick Fowler II
DANVILLE, Va. - Fredrick Winfield Fowler II, 31, of 414 Franklin Turnpike, died Monday, May 22, 2000, in Bronx, N.Y.
Born Sept. 6, 1968, in Danville, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Fowler I.
On Aug. 2, 1997, he was married
to Nina Bennett Fowler, who survives. He was a graduate of George Washington High School and attended A & T State University, Greensboro, N.C. He was a member of White Rock Baptist Church. He was co-owner of Styles For You Beauty Salon. He served the Pittsylvania County Schools in several capacities, one of which was coaching basketball.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Nia Dozier Fowler of Danville; one son, Kelvin O'Brian Jones of Danville; one sister, Fehita W. Fowler of Danville; one brother, James Keith Cohen of Danville; maternal grandmother, Maggie Dozier of Georgetown, S.C., and paternal grandmother, Crine O'Neal Cole Lyman of Spartanburg, S.C.
A funeral will be held at noon Saturday at Bibleway Worldwide Cathedral with the Rev. Walter Tinsley officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. at L.H. Brooks & Bros. Funeral Home, and other times at the residence, and at 119 Andes Drive.
Willie Lee Henry
DANVILLE, Va. - Willie Lee Henry, 90, formerly of Heritage Towers, 231 South Ridge Street, died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after five years of declining health. She had been a resident of Roman Eagle for three years.
Born December 17, 1909, in the Glenwood community of Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Thomas Sylvester Williams and Annie Elizabeth Kent Williams.
On March 22, 1932, she was married
to Noel David Henry, who predeceased her December 12, 1959. She was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church. She was a member of Dorcas Sunday School Class. She lived her entire life in Danville, Virginia. She retired from Dan River Mills, Inc. after 43 years where she worked in the weave room.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. Harold D. Henry and wife Sylvia Smith Henry of Danville, the Rev. David L. Henry of Roanoke, and Donald R. Henry of Newport News; four granddaughters, Vicki Gibowski of Pensacola, Fla., Debbie Hart of Roanoke, Ann DiMedio of Woodbridge, and Cathy Price of Arlington, Texas; one grandson, Noel David Henry of Newport News, and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Keen Street Baptist Church with the Reverend Thomas Brown and The Reverend Carl Burger officiating. Interment
will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence of a son, Dr. Harold D. Henry, 210 Downey Lane, Danville, Virginia.
Howard Lloyd
SAXE, Va. - Howard "Sonny" "Gus" Thomas Lloyd, 59, of 425 Roanoke Creek Road, died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at his home.
Born Feb. 7, 1941, in Halifax County, he was a son of James Lloyd and Hennie Brown Lloyd.
He was married
to Shirley Lloyd, who survives. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired from Monroe Tree Service.
In addition to his wife of Saxe, survivors include two sons, Chris Lloyd of Nathalie and Thomas Yates of Saxe; two daughters, Sheena Lloyd of Saxe and Susan L. Chappell of Wylliesburg; three brothers, James Lloyd and Allen Lloyd, both of South Boston, and Joe Lloyd of Scottsburg; three sisters, Hazel Barker of Alton, Helen Barksdale of Halifax, and Gracie Wilson of Asheboro, N.C., and four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one brother, Franklin B. Lloyd.
A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Scott family cemetery, Charlotte County, with the Rev. Richard Welch officiating.

Margaret Hamlett Shelton
HURT, Va. - Margaret Hamlett Shelton, age 86, of 408 Prospect Road, Hurt, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at her residence.
Born Nov. 10, 1913, in Pittsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Albert Willard Hamlett and Berkley Hodnett Hamlett. Mrs. Shelton was married
to the late William Reeves Shelton. She was also predeceased by two grandsons, Colby East and Mark East, also one sister, Lelia Barker. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by three sons, Claude G. Shelton of Hurt, William Anderson (Andy) Shelton and his wife Diane of Williamsburg and Oma L. Shelton and his wife Mary of Gretna; two daughters and son-in-law, Lucy Matherly and her husband Guy, Agnes East and her husband John both of Hurt; two half-sisters, Velma Sater and Odie Elliot both of Danville; one half-brother, Douglas Hamlett of Blairs; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday at Midway Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Lynn Marstin. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the residence 408 Prospect Road, Hurt.

Willie Bass
DANVILLE, Va. - Willie S. Bass, 78, of 120 Oakhaven Drive died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 2, 1922, in Danville, he was a son of Walter V. Bass and Sallie Layne Bass.
He was married
to Kathryn "Kitty" Cox Bass, who survives. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in World War II. He worked for the Danville Commercial Appeal newspaper and was later associated with DIMON for 13 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a former member of the Danville Exchange Club, the Jaycees, the Sertoma Club, and the Danville Golf Club. He was a member of the Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church where he was a former Sunday school teacher and Elder. He was also co-owner of Danville Printing Company.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three nieces and two nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Walter V. Bass Jr., Clyde A. Bass, and Curtis Bass, and one sister, Evelyn Van Hook.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating.

James Bosman
DANVILLE, Va. - James Andrew Bosman, 71, of 348 Wendell Scott Drive died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 7, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Paul E. Bosman and Mary Ingram, who survives.
He first married
Letitia H. Bosman, who predeceased him, and was later married
to Cora Sawyers Bosman, who survives. He was employed with Dan River Mills for many years and was a T.V. repairman. He was also owner and operator of Bosman's Coach and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board, and was a member of the male chorus and the Usher Board. He was secretary of Murdock Lodge #163, Associate Patron Lydia Chapter #74 Order of the Eastern Star, Bus Ministries, and operated Bosman's Medicaid Transportation Service.
In addition to his wife of the residence and his mother of Danville, survivors include one daughter, Cleatis Swanson of Danville; three sons, Wayne Bosman, Terry Bosman and James L. Bosman, all of Danville; three sisters, Ruth Lea, Velma Ingram and Queen Dailey, all of Danville; and seven grandchildren.
He was also predeceased by one sister, Kathryn Jean Ingram; two brothers, Obie Ingram Jr. and Clyde Orlando Adams, and his stepfather, Obie Ingram Sr.
A funeral was held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2000, at Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Hayes McConnell officiating. Interment
with military rites followed in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends at the residence.

DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Alice Martin Dean, 86, of 307 Girard St., died Friday, May 26, 2000, at her residence.
Born March 25, 1914, in South Boston, she was a daughter of Charles Martin and Mary Ellen Vaughn Martin.
She was married
to Orien F. Dean, who predeceased her in December 1978. She was a member of The Tabernacle and a former Sunday school teacher. She was a self-employed caregiver.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelby J. Royal of Rockville, Md., and Delores B. Seay of Danville; two sons, Glen W. Dean of Danville, and O. Frank Dean Jr. of Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, Mae Martin of Turbeville, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Clara Bass and Georgia Martin, and three brothers, Lillous Martin, Jesse Martin and Lacas Martin.
A graveside funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. Carl Burger and the Rev. Brian Edwards officiating.

Anthony Forrester
DANVILLE, Va. - Anthony Joseph Forrester, 73, of 206 Robertson Ave., died Friday, May 26, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 7, 1926, in New York, he was the son of Anthony Forrester and Helen Furgerson Forrester.
He was married
to Moira Doran Forrester, who survives. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was Operation Manager of J.F.K. Airport until his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include four sons, George Forrester and Michael Forrester, both of Danville, and Martin Forrester and Dennis Forrester, both of new York; two daughters, Mary Wetter of New York and Florence Forrester of Danville; one brother, Ed Forrester of New York; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Margaret Albano, and one son, Thomas Forrester.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Dario Saniel officiating. Interment
will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Townes Memorial Chapel, followed by the family receiving friends until 8:30 p.m.
