NATHALIE, Va. - Colleen Canada Gregory Woody, 69, of 1025 Tuck Trail died Sunday, May 4, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born August 12, 1930, in Brookneal, she was a daughter of the late Ronald H. Gregory and Hattie Canada Gregory, who survives.
She was married
to Henry E. Woody, who survives. She was a member of Catawba Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of Nathalie and mother of South Boston, survivors include two daughters, Carolyn W. Clark and Patricia W. Fields, both of Nathalie; one son, Henry E. Woody Jr. of Scottsburg; three brothers, Bobby Gregory of Atlanta, Jimmy Ray Gregory of South Boston, and David Gregory of Roxboro, N.C.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald Howard Gregory Jr. and Kelsie Sam Gregory, and one granddaughter.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Griffin officiating. Interment
will be in Catawba Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Frances Adkins
DANVILLE, Va. - Frances Kay Holland Adkins, 44, of 1016 Ferry Road, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after six years of declining health and a four-day stay in the hospital.
Born July 13, 1955, in Danville, she was a daughter of Harvie Lee Holland and Deliah Stephens Holland.
She was married
to Larry Wilson Adkins, who survives. She had lived all of her life in Danville. She had worked for Tultex Mills Inc. in Martinsville as a material handler in the cutting room. She was a Christian and a very active member of Victory Baptist Church where she served as a choir member and member of the Ladies Auxillary as long as her health permitted.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one son, Kenneth Wayne "Kenny" Adkins of the residence; two sisters, Ada Fay H. Kendrick and Marie F. Tickle, both of Danville; three brothers, Charles Ray Holland, Frank William Holland, and Lee Holland, all of Danville.
She was predeceased by one sister, Claudine H. Brown.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Hylton Lawrence, Rev. Roy Newton and Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and other times at the residence.
Vernell Hedrick Barbour
SANDY LEVEL, Va. - Vernell Hedrick Barbour, 80, of 9956 Grassland Drive, died Monday, June 5, 2000 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Born June 12, 1919 in Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Hedrick and Annie Short Hedrick. She was married
to the late Haywood Guy Barbour, Sr. Mrs. Barbour was predeceased by a son, Wayne Barbour, a brother Henry Hedrick and one sister, Mary Newman. She was a member of Mountain View Christian Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Haywood G. Barbour, Jr. of Hurt, Glenn Barbour of Sandy Level, a grandson they reared Ricky Barbour of Chatham; one daughter, Rachel Mullins of Vinton; three brothers, Shirley Hedrick of Hurt, John Hedrick of Gretna and Giles Hedrick of Martinsville; three sisters, Hazel Brown and Annie Bell Vasser both of Gretna, Helen Walker of Danville; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2000 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by the Rev. Woodrow Tuck and Rev. J.D. Hunt III. Interment
will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence 9956 Grassland Drive, Sandy Level.

Lowell Belcher
DANVILLE, Va. - Lowell Aubern Belcher, 80, of 445 Lynch Dr., died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at the residence.
Born March 3, 1920, in Meadows of Dan, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Conner Belcher.
He was married
to Thelma Walker Belcher, who predeceased him Oct. 14, 1995. He lived his entire life in the Danville area and worked in the 4A weave room at Dan River Mills prior to his retirement. He had also worked in maintenance at Piedmont Mall.
He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp, serving in the Signal Corp in the Pacific Theater of World War II. He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion and the AARP. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sons, Gary A. Belcher of Winchester and Ronald L. Belcher of Danville; one daughter, Linda Belcher Swiger of Fancy Gap; two brothers, Alvin Belcher of Meadows of Dan and Warren Belcher of Rockville, Md.; one sister, Lena B. Conner of Meadows of Dan; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Larry Taylor officiating. Military honors will be performed by American Legion Post No. 1097.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and other times at the residence.
Vincent Lancaster
DANVILLE, Va. - Vincent Lee Lancaster, 71, of 262 Vicar Place died Monday, June 5, 2000, at his residence after seven months of declining health.
Born July 7, 1928, in Danville, he was a son of Andrew Clay Lancaster and Nellie Gilbert Lancaster, who survives.
He was married
to Jean Walker Lancaster, who survives. He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard where he served as Lt. Colonel. He had spent most of his life in Danville where he was the Director of Compensation and Administration for Dan River Inc. He was a member of Woodberry Hills Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #325, and a former member of the Danville J.C.'s.
In addition to his mother of Danville and wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Vincent Todd Lancaster of South Boston, and one daughter, Sharon Lancaster Childress of Danville, and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Woodberry Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Lewis Harris and the Rev. Billy Scearce officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park with military honors performed by American Legion Post #325 Honor Guard.

Benford Krantz
HURT, Va. - Benford "Bennie" Aubrey Krantz, 51, died Wenesday, May 31, 2000, in Hopewell.
Born July 27, 1948, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Aubrey B. Krantz and Christine Roach Krantz.
He was married
to Patricia Krantz, who survives. He was a night shift supervisor at the Lane Company and was a member of the Altavista Moose Lodge #1727.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Bennie Wayne Krantz of Hurt; two brothers, Mike Krantz of Hurt and Danny Krantz of Huddleston; two sisters, Brenda Divers of Glade Hill and Nadine Roach of Altavista, and a stepsister, Linda Thompson of Madison Heights.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston, with the Rev. Scott Dean and Rev. Alfred Hartsell officiating. Interment
will follow in the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church cemetery.

Matilda Murphy
DANVILLE, Va. - Matilda Murphy, 94, of 805 Memorial Drive, Apt. 2, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 4, 1906, in North Carolina, she was a daughter of John Will and Ida Badget.
Survivors include grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Fannie Powell
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Fannie Younger Powell, 69, of 1000 East Bishop St., #304 died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Jan. 18, 1931, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Flossie Chappell Younger, who survives.
In addition to her mother of Halifax, survivors include two daughters, Linda Powell of South Boston and Martha Davis of Halifax; three sons, Raleigh Powell of Brooklyn, N.Y., Donnell Powell and James Powell, both of Halifax; four sisters, Orlean Younger of Bronx, N.Y., Hallie Stovall of Halifax, and Vanessa Anderson and Louis Edmonds, both of South Boston; four brothers, Bernard, David, and Ralph Younger of Bridgeport, Conn., and Ralph of Queens, N.Y.; 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Zion Baptist Church, Nathalie, with the Rev. Willie Muse officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.

Lula Wiggs
DANVILLE, Va. - Lula Dillon Wiggs, 94, of 123 Sherwood Dr. died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Lucy Corr Nursing Home, Chesterfield.
Born May 23, 1906, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Monroe M. Singleton and Ollie Dunaway Singleton.
She was first married
to William P. Dillon, who predeceased her, and then to A.W. Wiggs, who also predeceased her. She spent most of her life in Danville and prior to her retirement, was a nurse with Danville Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Mosley Memorial United Methodist Church where she served as president of the Nora Mosley Bible Class. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She was the last member of her generation.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret D. Waddell of Midlothian and Dr. Celia D. Blanks of Winter Garden, Fla.; one son, Ralph G. Dillon of Concord, N.C.; three stepchildren, Peggy Asycue of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Orez Wiggs and Kenneth Wiggs, both of Danville; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Betty Toombs.

Augusta Barley
NATHALIE, Va. - Augusta Reid Barley, 58, of 8106 Coles Ferry Road, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was born Aug. 2, 1941, in Halifax County.
Survivors include two daughters, Vicarolyn Napier of Brookneal and Janet Barley of Nathalie; four sons, Richard Barley Jr. of Pennsylvania, Paul Barley of Brookneal, Chris Barley of Gladys and Orellas Barley of Lynchburg; her mother, Mamie Reid of Nathalie; one sister, Lula Barksdale of Alexandria; one brother, James Reid of Washington; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from Crawford, Garrett & Burton Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Traynham officiating. Interment
will follow in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery.

Catherine Corbett
DANVILLE, Va. - Catherine Davis Corbett, 43, of 32 Oak Ridge Ave., died Monday, June 5, 2000, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 31, 1957 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of West Davis and Toy Elizabeth Jones Davis.
She was married
to James Corbett, who survives. She was employed by Dan River Mills, and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her husband of Danville, she is survived by one daughter, Leslie Duncan of Danville; three sisters, Delma Briggs and Louella Morrison, both of Chatham and Mary Hankins of Elizabeth, N.J.; four brothers, the Rev. Eddie Lee Davis of Blairs, Willie Jr. Adams of Gretna, Paul Adams of Chester, Penn., and Silas Adams of Los Angeles; one stepdaughter, Wendy Corbett of Melbane, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday from Shockoe Baptist Church with the Rev. G.H. Pass officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
