Wilton Hudson
DANVILLE, Va. - Wilton Bernard Hudson, 89, of 135 North Ave., died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at his residence after three years of declining health.
Born April 16, 1911, in Danville, he was a son of James Edward Hudson and Luvanna Collins Hudson.
In 1953, he was married
to Gladys Shelton Henderson Hudson, who predeceased him in March 1983. He was a lifelong member of Shelton Memorial PResbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and as a Sunday school teacher. He lived his entire life in Danville and was retired from Belk-Leggett where he worked as a salesman in the mens department.
Survivors include one stepson, Edwin Henderson of Chester; one brother, Vance Hudson of Danville; three step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Elwood Singleton Hudson and Clyde Fleetwood Hudson, and two sisters, Edna Hudson and Ruby H. McDowell.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel.
Henry McFall
LYNCHBURG, Va. - Henry Tucker McFall, 91, formerly of Charleston, W.Va. died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
He was a retired engineer from C&P Telephone Company of West Virginia, a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Charleston, Kappa Alpha fraternity at Washington and Lee University, Edgewood Country Club, Charleston, and the Exchange Club of Charleston. He was a graduate of Virginia Military Institute.
Survivors include one daughter, Tucker McFall Ziebold of Charleston; one son, Donald Beury McFall; two sisters, Madge M. Wiseman and Jane M. Spangler, both of Danville; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by a brother, Frank B. McFall.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Mountain View cemetery, Charleston, W.Va. with the Rev. Frederick G. Bannerot officiating.
John Nowlin
CHESTER, Pa. - John Washington Nowlin, 58, of 734 Yanall St., formerly of Hurt, Va., died Friday, May 9, 2000, at Venture Memorial Hospital, Mount Holley, N.J.
Born Dec. 18, 1941, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Frederick Nowlin, who survives, and Evangelist Katie Nowlin.
He was employed by the Blu Link Trucking Company.
In addition to his father of Hurt, Va., survivors include three sons, Carlton of Richmond, Va., Jason of New Castle, Del., and John Jr. of Chester; three daughters, Jada and Crystal, both of Chester, and Neddra of East Orange, N.J.; two brothers, Calvin "C.D." Nowlin of Philadelphia, and James "Champ" Nowlin of Brookneal, Va.; four sisters, Evelyn Nowlin of Philadelphia, Elsie Gregory and Ella Mae Monroe, both of Hurt, Va., and Lillian Monroe of Altavista, and 17 grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Elder William Peerman officiating. Interment
will follow in the Cook & Harris Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Monroe, 5205 Wards Road, Hurt, Va.
Ione Nuckols
Ione Frances Graves Nuckols, 79, of 821 Arnett Blvd., died Monday, June 12, 2000, at her residence.
Born July 23, 1920 in Burlington, N.C., she was the daughter of Ura Denton Graves, Sr. and Flossie Shoffner Graves.
She was married
to Jay I. Nuckols, Sr., who predeceased her.
She was also predeceased by one son, Jay I. Nuckols, Jr., one grandson, Kenneth Greeson, one grand daughter, Angela Nuckols, one sister, Rose Lee Graves Cole, and two brothers, Elmer Graves and U.D. Graves, Jr.
She was a member of Lighthouse Independent Methodist Church. Her family was her love and her life.
Family includes two daughters, Emma Jean Greeson, Whitsett, N.C., Julia Byrd and son-in-law Robert Byrd of Danville, VA., ten grandchildren, Ivan Greeson, Deborah G. Harris, Gail G. Clontz, Wayne Byrd Sr., Vickie B. Booth, Phyllis B. Brown, Lisa B. Barker, Lori Ann B. Grubbs, Tammy N. Collins, and Marie N. Evans, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. One sister, Elaine Graves Mann, four brothers, Alton Graves, Marvin Graves, Earl Graves, and Fred Graves all of Burlington, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 15, 2000, at 3:00 pm from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Freddie Vicks. Interment
will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Wednesday night from 7:00 - 9:00 pm and at other times will be at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Byrd, 520 Rocky Knoll Lane.
Larry Reid
DANVILLE, Va. - Larry Martin Reid, 66, of 4201 Mount View Road died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at his residence after one month of declining health.
Born Dec. 9, 1933, in Pelzer, S.C., he was a son of Henry Reid and Virginia Pruitt Cox, who survives.
On May 20, 1972, he was married
to Carolyn Compton Reid, who survives. He lived most of his life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. He was employed by WBTM Radio where he was host of the program "Viewpoint" until his retirement after 32 years of service. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Semora, N.C., where he served as an associate pastor. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his mother of Danville and wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Donna Jean Reid of the residence; two sons, Mark Timothy Reid of Danville and Larry Martin Reid Jr. of Atlanta; one sister, JoAnn Reid Cox of Danville, and 2 granddaughters.
He was predeceased by one brother, James Kenneth Reid.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Tommy London and the Rev. Dr. R.J. Barber Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park with military honors performed by American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard.

Norene Riley
DANVILLE, Va. - Norene Little Riley, 86, of Roman Eagle Memorial Home, and formerly of 18 Ashlawn Drive died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Danville Regional MEdical Center.
Born May 31, 1914, in Rockingham County, N.C., she was a daughter of Robert Lee Little and Annie Collins Little.
She was married
to Ira Odell Riley, who predeceased her. She spent most of her life in Danville and had been a resident of Roman Eagle since 1994. She worked in the sewing room of Dan River Mills and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Dene Riley of Danville.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Neal Riley and one sister, Pauline Little Boaze.
A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Lee D. Ellison officiating.
The family will receive friends at the daughter's residence, 18 Ashlawn Drive.

Dorothy Blankenship
DANVILLE, Va. - Dorothy Davis Blankenship, 84, of 124 Tamworth Place died Wednesday morning, June 14, 2000 at Stratford Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Blankenship was born on December 27, 1915 in Decatur, Georgia.
She was married
to Joseph Asbury Blankenship who predeceased her in 1998.
Mrs. Blankenship was a retired secretary for the Danville City Schools. She was a very active member of Rivermont Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher for many years.
Mrs. Blankenship is survived by her daughter, Brenda Blankenship Taylor and her husband, Ronald Douglas Taylor of Atlanta, Georgia and a sister Grace Burcher of Midlothian, Va.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2000, 11:00 A.M. at Rivermont Baptist Church. Rev. Jack Waddell will be conducting the services. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 15, 2000, 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Townes Funeral Home.
Dorothy Bryant
RINGGOLD, Va. - Dorothy Colvard Bryant, 76, of 524 Ferguson Road died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 13, 1923, in Schoolfield, she was a daughter of William Tyra Colvard and Annie Leary Colvard.
She was raised in Danville and lived in Tuscon, Az. for 30 years before returning to Danville. She served in the WAVES Naval Reserves during World War II. She retired as supervisor for Reuben Donnely Advertising Agency. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Estelle C. Brown of Ringgold and Virginia C. Shelhorse of Linwood, N.C.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View cemetery with Fr. David McGuire officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home.
Elsie Collie
DANVILLE, Va. - Elsie Franklin Maxie Collie, 91, of 2501 Mount Cross Road, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born May 6, 1909 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of John Henry Franklin and Annie Howard Hudson Franklin.
She was first married
to Joseph Maxie Sr., who predeceased her on Oct. 11, 1938. She was later married
to Clarence Collie, who predeceased her on July 1, 1985. Prior to her retirement, she was an employee at Dan River Inc. She spent her life in Danville as a member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, Schoolfield Rebecca Lodge and Dan River Retired Workers Club.
Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Maxie Penna of Danville, Margaret Maxie Hearp of Dry Fork and Naomi Maxie McDaniel of Danville; one brother, Jay Earl Franklin of Danville; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and four step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was predeceased by one son, Joseph Maxie Jr.; three brothers, Carlton, Clyde and Benny Franklin; one daughter, Rebecca Maxie Mitchell and one sister, Hortense Bliss.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from Mountain View cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Crews officiating.
The family will receive friends from Evelyn Penna's residence, 2445 Mt. Cross Road, Danville.

Charles Phillip "Phil" Dishman
DANVILLE, Va. - Charles Phillip "Phil" Dishman, 48, of 137 Leslie Lane died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 7, 1951, in Danville, he was a son of Henry Smith Dishman Jr. and Celia Crutchfield Dishman, who survive.
He was married
to Ethel Faye Shelton Dishman, who survives. He lived all of his life in Danville, and was a graduate of George Washington High School and Averett College. He was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and United Rubber Workers Union 831.
In addition to his parents and wife, survivors include two sons, Austin James Dishman of Danville and Benjamin Phillip Dishman of Virginia Beach; one daughter, Amanda Kaye Dishman of Danville and two brothers, Matthew Smith Dishman of Danville and Michael Vann Dishman of Richmond.
A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Linwood Daniel and the Rev. Levi Stroud officiating.
