Edward Ferguson
DANVILLE, Va. - Edward Ferguson, 92, of 132 Swanson St., died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 23, 1907 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Robert Ferguson and Frances Barksdale.
He was a groundkeeper for the city of Danville.
Survivors include three sons, Meaceo Ferguson of Jamaica, N.Y., Raymond Ferguson of the Bronx, N.Y., and James Ferguson of Vance, S.C.; three daughters, Lovelean F. Thomas of Woodside, N.Y., Janie F. Hunt of Danville and Mable Merritt of East Point, Ga.; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from Kentuck Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Fitz officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral home and at other times at the residence of Janie Hunt, 407 E. Hermitage Drive, Westchester Square Apartments.
Thomas Harvey
ABINGDON, Va. - Thomas W. Harvey, 78, of Abingdon, formerly of Marion, died June 14, 2000, after a brief illness.
He was of the Christian faith. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech, a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot, and an active member of the Boy Scouts. He received the Silver Beaver Award.
He was an employee of Brunswick Corporation for several years, and after his retirement, he became president of Burruss Company in Lynchburg.
He headed many fundraising projects, including the building of Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Va.
He was married
to Gloria Green Harvey, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Teri H. Carter of Greensboro, N.C.; two sons, Greg Harvey of Kingsport, Tenn. and Kim Harvey of Bristol, Tenn.; one sister, Byrdie Parton of Danville; one brother, Charles B. Harvey of Tucson, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday from First Christian Church of Abingdon, with Minister Howard Taylor officiating. Interment
will follow on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Morning View cemetery in Bluff City, Tenn. with full military honors by Patton-Crosswhite V.F.W. Post #6975.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday in the church.

Catherine Hopkins
DANVILLE, Va. - Catherine Viola Gibson Hopkins, 79, of 291 Locust Lane, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at her residence.
Born Aug. 5, 1920 in Callands, she was the daughter of Ford Gibson and Rosie Lee Rigney Gibson.
She spent most of her life in Danville where she was an employee of Dan River Inc. She was married
to Johnnie Pershing Hopkins, who predeceased her in 1995. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Piedmont Walking Club.
Survivors include three brothers, Irvin Gibson of Cascade, Robert Gibson of Danville and Neal Gibson of Roanoke; and two sisters, Essie Bryan and Lizzie Kendrick, both of Danville.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Clayton Murphy.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday from Swicegood Funeral Home.
Wilton Hudson
DANVILLE, Va. - Wilton Bernard Hudson, 89, of 135 North Ave., died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at his residence after three years of declining health.
Born April 16, 1911, in Danville, he was a son of James Edward Hudson and Luvanna Collins Hudson.
In 1953, he was married
to Gladys Shelton Henderson Hudson, who predeceased him in March 1983. He was a lifelong member of Shelton Memorial PResbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and as a Sunday school teacher. He lived his entire life in Danville and was retired from Belk-Leggett where he worked as a salesman in the mens department.
Survivors include one stepson, Edwin Henderson of Chester; one brother, Vance Hudson of Danville; two step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Elwood Singleton Hudson and Clyde Fleetwood Hudson, and two sisters, Edna Hudson and Ruby H. McDowell.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel.
Sherman Monroe
LONG ISLAND, Va. - Sherman J. Monroe, 45, of 188 Demarest Street, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, in University Hospital in Newark, N.J.
Born Sept. 18, 1954 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Aubrey Monroe and Marie Pannell Monroe.
Survivors include two daughters, Doretha and Felicia Monroe, both of Brookneal; two brothers, Jimmy Monroe of Alexandria, and Darnell Monroe of Martinsville; five sisters, Elma Anderson of East Orange, N.J., Thelma Pannell of Passaic, N.J., Nellie Davis of Elizabeth, N.J., Dale Monroe of Englewood, N.J., and Phillis Monroe of Newark, N.J.; one grandmother, Dora Pannell of Long Island, Va.; and one grandchild.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Wyatt Earp Monroe and David Mervin Monroe.
A funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday from Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Jerome Morris officiating. Interment
will follow in the Pannell Family cemetery, Long Island.

Ione Nuckols
Ione Frances Graves Nuckols, 79, of 821 Arnett Blvd., died Monday, June 12, 2000, at her residence.
Born July 23, 1920 in Burlington, N.C., she was the daughter of Ura Denton Graves, Sr. and Flossie Shoffner Graves.
She was married
to Jay I. Nuckols, Sr., who predeceased her.
She was also predeceased by one son, Jay I. Nuckols, Jr., one grandson, Kenneth Greeson, one grand daughter, Angela Nuckols, one sister, Rose Lee Graves Cole, and two brothers, Elmer Graves and U.D. Graves, Jr.
She was a member of Lighthouse Independent Methodist Church. Her family was her love and her life.
Family includes two daughters, Emma Jean Greeson, Whitsett, N.C., Julia Byrd and son-in-law Robert Byrd of Danville, VA., ten grandchildren, Ivan Greeson, Deborah G. Harris, Gail G. Clontz, Wayne Byrd Sr., Vickie B. Booth, Phyllis B. Brown, Lisa B. Barker, Lori Ann B. Grubbs, Tammy N. Collins, and Marie N. Evans, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. One sister, Elaine Graves Mann, four brothers, Alton Graves, Marvin Graves, Earl Graves, and Fred Graves all of Burlington, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 15, 2000, at 3:00 pm from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Freddie Vicks. Interment
will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Wednesday night from 7:00 - 9:00 pm and at other times will be at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Byrd, 520 Rocky Knoll Lane.
Charity Perry
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Charity Lancaster Perry, 23, of 1335 Washington Ave., died June 13, 2000, in Keysville, Va.
Born Jan. 30, 1977 in South Boston, she was the daughter of Wayne Lancaster and Phyllis Davis Lancaster.
She was married
to Timothy Dwight Perry Jr. and a member of the South Boston Church of God.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one brother, Sam Lancaster of Halifax; one sister, Tabitha Lancaster of Halifax; her parents, Wayne and Phyllis Lancaster of Halifax; and her great-grandparents, the Rev. Harper and Betty Davis of Halifax.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from South Boston Church of God with the Rev. Bill Leonard officiating. Interment
will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Bill Prevette
DANVILLE, Va. - William Thomas "Bill" Prevette, 67, of 449 Henry St., died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at his residence after two years of declining health.
Born Oct. 17, 1932, in Lexington, N.C., he was a son of David E. Prevette and Beatrice Coffey Prevette.
He was married
to Garland Bray "Nellie" Prevette, who survives. He had lived most of his life in Henry County and Danville. He was a retired self-employed carpenter and member of Rivermont Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Deborah P. Cox of Henry County, Susie Prevette of Martinsville, and Genie P. Willard of Bassett; two brothers, Kenneth Prevette and James Prevette, both of Richmond; five stepchildren and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one brother, David E. Prevette Jr.

Earlene Williams
LYNCH STATION, Va. - Earlene Williams, 78, of 1882 Bedford Highway, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born Feb. 14, 1922 in Campbell County, she was a daughter of David Perrow Adams and Cordie Keatts Adams.
She was retired from Frank X Inc. of North Carolina.
Survivors include one son, Donald Williams of Danville; two daughters, Denise W. Hunnicutt and Vickie W. Knowles, both of Danville; one brother, Carter Adams of Williamsburg; one sister, Virginia A. Mountcastle of Lynchburg; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Vernon Adams and Leroy Adams.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from Colbert-Moran Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James Worley officiating. Interment
will follow in Altavista Memorial Park.

Myrtle McGee Shelton Witt
DANVILLE, Va. - Mrs. Myrtle McGee Shelton Witt age 93 of 395 Stephens Street died Wednesday afternoon at 3:45 o'clock at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Witt was a native of Georgia born February 26, 1907. She was the daughter of the late Robert McGee and Emma Causey McGee. Most of her life was spent in Danville where she was employed by Dan River, Inc. before retiring. She first married
Dillard Shelton who predeceased her. Her last marriage was to T. Boyd Witt who predeceased her.
Mrs. Witt was a member of the West Main Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Pocahontas Wyanette Council #22 and served as Prophetess and Trustee, a member of the Dan River Retirees Club and the Senior Citizen Club and the AARP.
Surviving is a daughter, Irene S. Morgan, Currituck, N.C., Seven grandchildren Janice S. Mims, Ray E. Shelton, both of Danville, Kathy M. Fredericks, Florida, Dr. Patrick H. Morgan, Jr., Currituck, N.C., Dr. Michael Baxter Morgan, Nags Head, N.C., Susan Adams, New York, and Brian Dodd of Richmond.
Predeceased son, Raymond E. Shelton and a predeceased daughter, Beulah May Dodd. 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Swicegood Chapel by the Rev. Bruce Wilson. Interment
