DANVILLE, Va. - Lisa Lynette Mays, 34, of 2134A Robinhood Drive, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 27, 1965 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Peerman Roosevelt John and Maggie Mays.
She was the manager of Ham's Restaurant for many years.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, LaKwielia Tanner and Ashley Tanner, both of the residence; one son, Dominique Tanner of the residence; three brothers, Vincent D. Mays, Delancy R. Johns and Gary L. Johns, all of Danville; and one sister, Lisa Diane Smith of Danville.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday from Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Roger Jackson officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Jeroline McDaniel
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Jeroline McDaniel, 79, of 704 Ailcie St., died Friday, June 16, 2000 at Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C.
Born April 28, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Augusta Pritchett and Susie Mitchell.
She was married
to Horace McDaniel, who survives. She was a homemaker and a member of High Street Baptist Church and American Legion Auxillary #78.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Synthronia McDaniel of Georgia; one son, Horace McDaniel Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Henry Pritchett of Martinsville; two sisters, Alma Saunders of Martinsville and Maggie Hall of Lanham, Md., and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at High Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Shackleford officiating. Interment
will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service and other times at the residence.

Lori Michelle Pleasants
RADFORD, Va. - Lori Michelle Pleasants, 23, of 507 Clement Street Apt. K, died suddenly Thursday, June 15, 2000, at her residence.
Born April 6, 1977, in South Boston, she was the daughter of Rodney Melvin Pleasants, who survives, and Pamela Lawter Pleasants, who predeceased her.
Miss Pleasants lived her life in the Danville area prior to moving to Radford, Virginia, where she had been a student at Radford University.
In addition to her father of Danville, survivors include her stepmother, Donna Carter Pleasants of Danville; paternal grandparents Al and Vianna Pleasants of South Boston; maternal grandmother, Paula Lawter Flood of Bermuda; aunts and uncles Harry and Kathy Talley and Al and Sarah Pleasants, all of South Boston, and one cousin, Bryan Talley of South Boston.
In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her maternal grandfather Clarence Lawter.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at a Mausoleum at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Tim Nuckles officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of parents Rodney and Donna Pleasants, 441 Westridge Drive, Danville, Va.

Kitty Scearce
DANVILLE, Va. - Katherine Payne Scearce, 75, of 2309 Franklin Turnpike died Sunday, June 18, 2000, in Stratford Health Care Center after one year of declining health.
Born July 20, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Benjamin Hill Payne Jr. and Betty Thomas Payne.
On Sept. 29, 1942, she was married
to Leonard R. Scearce, who survives. She lived her entire life in Pittsylvania County where she was a member of Sharon Baptist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the WMU and member of The Woodmen of the World. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Kathy S. Jones of Cascade; one son, Ronald P. Scearce Sr. of Mount Hermon; two sisters, Maury P. Hubbard and Mildred P. Robertson, both of Dry Fork; a brother, Benjamin Hill Payne III of Dry Fork; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Everette Payne; a sister, Edith Payne, and two grandsons, Lance Corporal Christopher Turner and Ronald Payne Scearce Jr.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Allen Holder and the Rev. Donald Scearce officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence.
The family of Kitty Scearce suggests that memorial donations be made to the Christopher Daniel Turner Memorial Scholarship Fund of the Danville Community College Educational Foundation.
Clarence Bowe
HYANNIS, Mass. - Clarence Lewis Bowe, 64, died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at his residence.
Born Dec. 6, 1935 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Doretha Warner Bowe and Otis Bowe.
He was married
to Elsie Marie Bowe, who survives. He was educated in the public schools of Pittsylvania County, and was a graduate of Southside High School. He was an employee of M&M Furniture and left Danville in the 1960s for a job in Massachusetts. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Pelham, N.C., where he served on the Usher Board.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by one son, Clarence David Bowe of Boston; two brothers, Curtis Bowe of Berlin, N.J. and Solomon Nunnally; one sister, Iris N. Terry of Pelham, N.C.; and one granddaughter.
A funeral was held Tuesday in Hyannis, Mass.
William Davis
DANVILLE, Va. - William C. Davis, 70, of 134 James Road, died Monday, June 19, 2000 at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health since 1989 and a four-day stay in the hospital.
Born Dec. 24, 1929 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Ross Pipkin Davis and Estelle Shelton Davis.
He was married
to Ruby Alice Holley Davis, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He lived in Westover Hills for many years, and prior to his retirement, he worked at Dan River Inc for 20 years. He was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by three sons, Donnie Davis and Mike Davis, both of Danville and Ken Davis of Ringgold; six sisters, Christine Gauldin and Josie Koger, both of Danville, Mary Fulbright, Ruth Mangrum and Frances Owen, all of Newport News and Odell Jones of Prospect; three grandchildren and one step-grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Joyce Ann Pierce.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Hussey officiating. Interment
will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors performed by American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard.

Willie Hobbs
DANVILLE, Va. - Willie Preston Hobbs, 68, of 90 Baltimore Avenue, died Sunday, June 18, 2000 at Duke Medical Center.
Born May 11, 1932 in Caswell County, he was the son of Harry Lee Hobbs and Nettie Virginia Bailey Hobbs.
He was married
to Mildred McLean Bradley Hobbs, who predeceased him in 1976. He attended Peaceful Baptist Church and was employed as a die machine operator at Dan River, Inc.
Survivors include three brothers, Robert L. Hobbs of Christiansburg, Harry L. Hobbs of Pelham, N.C. and Charles Hobbs of Roanoke.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from Barker Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Kennon officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.

Morris Elmer Lawson
DANVILLE, Va. - Morris Elmer Lawson, 75, of 25 Baldwin Street, died Monday, June 19, 2000 at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born March 10, 1925 in Eden, N.C., he was the son of John Riley Lawson and Lelia Hall Lawson.
He was married
to Faye Cassell Lawson, who survives. He lived most of his life in Danville. He was an auto body repairman, and taught auto body repair classes at Danville Community College for 30 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Ester Lawson Long of Chesterfield; two sons, Melvin Clay Lawson of Kennersville, N.C. and Morris E. Lawson Jr. of Pelham, N.C.; one sister, Lois Lawson McMichael of Eden; and three grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, James L. Lawson and Charlie Odell "Fat" Lawson.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Soyars and the Rev. Stephen Lamb officiating. Interment
will follow in Overlook cemetery, Eden, N.C.

Margaret Norton
CLEAR LAKE CITY, Texas - Margaret May Haven Norton, 78, died April 14, 2000 in Clear Lake City, Texas after a long illness.
She was the wife of Henry Harris Norton, Jr., who predeceased her, and the daughter-in-law of Oliver Boseman Norton and Henry Norton, Sr. of Danville.
Survivors include daughters Joyce Norton Wooldridge of Suffolk, Virginia; Susan Norton Rossmann of Houston, Texas; a son, Brian Stuart Norton of Washington D.C.; one brother, John A. Haven of Townsend Harbor, Massachusetts; and six grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, June 23 at 11 a.m. at Highland Burial Park, N. Main Street, Danville.
Doris Adkins
SANDY LEVEL, Va. - Doris Elizabeth Adkins, age 64, of 8733 Museville Road, Sandy Level died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born August 13, 1935 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Thomas Adkins and Texanna Dalton Adkins.
Mrs. Adkins was predeceased by her husband, Monsie Adkins, two brothers Earlie Adkins and Ernest Adkins, three sisters, June Fielder, Mary Spainhour and Pearl A. Steele.
She is survived by a brother, Henry Ford Adkins of Marion, NC; three sisters, Beulah Warf of Reidsville, NC, Bertha Daniel of Chatham and Ruby Dillon of Gretna; a special friend, Oscar Hudson of Callands, a special niece, Kathy Barbour and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2000 at Sandy Level Baptist Church by Rev. Gene Ashworth.
Burial will follow in Liberty Memorial cemetery.
