Lee Bohannon
VERNON HILL, Va. - Lee Albert Bohannon, 64, of 2152 Johns Run Road died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Riverside Health Care Center after several years of declining health.
Born July 19, 1935, in Keeling, he was a son of Luke Bohannon and Carrie Shephard Bohannon Hardy.
He was employed with Dan River Inc. as a quill cleaner until his retirement. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Oxford, Ala.
Survivors include one brother, Mark Bohannon of Danville and two sisters, Nadine Slayton of Vernon Hill and Bernice Morris of Greensboro, N.C.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Jerry Bohannon, Clyde Bohannon and George Bohannon.
A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Slayton family cemetery, Vernon Hill, with the Rev. Herman Absher officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Nadine Slayton, 2152 Johns Run Road.

Jessie Davis Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Jessie James Davis Jr., 29, of 119 Roberts St. died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 4, 1970, in Danville, he was a son of Jessie James Davis Sr., who survives, and the late Jacqueline Sandra Motley Davis.
He was a graduate of George Washington High School and was employed with Bogie's Restaurant.
In addition to his father of Petersburg, survivors include five daughters, Jessica James, Jessica Gunter, Jakel Davis, Jasimon Stevens and Janesha J. James; three sons, Lonnie Jerome James, Joshua James, and Justin James, all of Danville; one sister, Chancey Davis, and one brother, Gary Davis, both of Danville.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home. Interment
will follow at Oak Hill cemetery.

John Whitehead Motley
CHATHAM, Va. - John Whitehead Motley, 61, of 680 Halifax Road, Chatham, died Monday June 26, 2000. Born in Pittsylvania County March 31, 1939 he was the son of the late Blair Motley Sr. and is survived by his mother, Dorothy Whitehead Motley of Chatham. He is also survived by his wife, Nancie Morton Motley of the residence, one daughter, Michele Motley Wilson and her husband, Frank Wilson, of Greenville, S.C., two sons, John Whitehead Motley, Jr. of Cleveland, TN and Latane Mark Motley of Chatham, one sister, Dorothy M. Finch of Danville, and two grandchildren, Blair McCall Wilson and Nancie Ellington Wilson, both of Greenville, SC.
He attended St. Christopher School in Richmond, VA and graduated from Hargrave Military Academy in 1959, where he was an outstanding football player. For many years, he owned and operated Motley's General Store in Shockoe, VA where he was involved in the family farming operation. He was a prominent Tobacconist who co-owned and operated Motley's Tobacco Warehouse with his wife, Nancie. He was a founding member of Concerned Friends for Tobacco and an active participant of the Bright Belt Warehouse Association. He was also a member of Virginia Tobacco Grower's Association, Piedmont Warehouse Association, Virginia Tobacco Warehouse Association and the Danville Warehouse Association. He was well loved and respected not only by the farming community but by the buying companies as well.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Chatham Presbyterian Church 2 p.m. on Friday, June 30th by the Reverend Walker Pettyjohn and the Reverend James Bullock. Interment
will be in the Chatham Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday and other times at the residence.

Mary Pettyjohn
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Doris Pettyjohn, 81, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Roman Eagle Memorial Nursing Home.
Born August 4, 1918, in Danville, she was a daughter of Albert D. Pettyjohn and Epsy Pettyjohn. She served with the United States Army from 1942-45 and received the Victory Medal, W.A.C. Service Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the American Theater Ribbon.
Survivors include one brother, Joseph Walker of Danville, and one half sister, Lola Nicholson of Middletown, Pa.
A graveside funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Spring Hill cemetery, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Claude Bailey officiating.

Thelma Taylor
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Thelma T. Taylor, 75, died June 23, 2000, in Manhattan.
Born April 11, 1925, she was a daughter of Lewis "Sallie" Price and Arthur Taylor.
Survivors include one son, Jay Taylor of the residence; one brother, Lucious Taylor; two sisters, Ella Henderson of Danville and Sallie Taylor of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Brooklyn.
Thomas Turner
DANVILLE, Va. - Thomas Lee Turner, 87, of 461 Williamson Road, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 3, 1913, in the Draper community of Rockingham County, he was a son of George W. Turner and Rosa Crews Turner.
He was first married
to Marion Herndon, who predeceased him in 1954, and then he married
Laura Collins Turner on Sept. 27, 1957, who survives him. He spent most of his life in Danville and Greensboro, N.C. He retired from Sears as a security guard of mail order in Greensboro, N.C. after 25 years of service. He also worked part-time for Southside Manufacturing Company. He was a member of Henphaw Memorial Methodist Church in Greensboro, N.C. and the Greensboro Lodge #76 A.F. & A.M. He was the last member of his generation.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one nephew.
He was predeceased by two brothers, George W. Turner and Henry Turner, and one sister, Lena T. Payne.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Jim Cates officiating. Masonic rites will be performed by the Greensboro Lodge #76 A.F. & A.M.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.

Milford Vance Jr.
HALIFAX, Va. - Milford Walter Vance Jr., 56, of 1188 Deer Run Road, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at his residence.
Born March 11, 1944, in Halifax County, he was a son of Milford W. Vance Sr. and Eula Perkins Vance Loftis, who survives.
He was married
to Patsy Wilmouth Vance, who survives. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife of the residence and his mother and stepfather of South Boston, survivors include one son, Michael Todd Vance of San Antonio, Texas, and one brother, Sanford Vance of Virginia Beach.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove United Church of Christ cemetery with the Rev. Terry Blevins officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. at the residence of Eula and Page Loftis, 3102 N. Main St., South Boston, and other times at the residence.

Rubelle Burrell
DANVILLE, Va. - Rubelle Cobbs Burrell, 86, of 1200 South Main Street, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 9, 1914, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Johnny Cobbs and Leslie Rice Cobbs.
She was married
to Robert Amos Burrell Sr., who predeceased her.
Survivors include one daughter, Nettie Burrell of Danville; two sons, Robert A. Burrell Jr. and Alphonzo Burrell, both of Danville; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. Cecil Bridgeforth officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.

Frankie Furr
DANVILLE, Va. - Frankie Silas Furr, 46, of 315 Overby St., died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after two months of declining health and a four-day stay in the hospital.
Born Oct. 6, 1953, in Danville, he was a son of the late Robert Henry Furr and Elizabeth Reynolds Furr, who survives.
On Sept. 16, 1973, he was married
to Teresia Ann Jackson Furr, who survives. He lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. He was employed by Marshall Concrete Products where he was a truck driver with 23 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith. He also served with the United States Navy.
In addition to his wife of the residence and mother of Ringgold, survivors include one son, Charles Robert Furr of Danville; one brother, Richard Henry Furr of Ringgold; two sisters, Sandra F. Hoover of Providence, N.C. and Patricia F. McCain of Pelham, N.C.; and one grandchild.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Steve Carlton officiating. Interment
will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard.
The family received friends Wednesday evening, and will be at the residence.
Tennie Robertson
PITTSVILLE, Va. - Tennie Lee Robertson, 61, of 6218 Pittsville Road, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at her residence.
Born Oct. 3, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Samuel Powell and Emma Pruitt Powell.
She was married
to Woodrow Robertson, who survives. She was a homemaker and member of Watson Level Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by four daughters, Joann Haynes of Gretna, Donna Clark of Perth Amboy, N.J., Belinda Robertson of Danville and Beryl Chris Robertson of Pittsville; three sons, Daryl Robertson and Luke Robertson, both of Pittsville and Andrew Robertson of Chatham; one sister, Shirley P. Robertson of Gretna; five brothers, Thomas Powell of Bridgeton, N.J., Walter L. Powell Sr. and Samuel Powell Jr., both of Gretna, Lawrence Edward Powell of Martinsville and Lawrence Milton Powell of Java; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Ann Berger.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Katie McKenzie officiating. Interment
will follow in the New Ridgeway United Methodist Church cemetery.
