Pearl Tucker
GRETNA, Va. - Pearl Burks Tucker, 91, of 1985 Blue Ridge Drive, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 14, 1909, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Charles Burks and Margaret Brooks Burks.
She was first married
to John W. Tredway, who predeceased her, and then to Owen Tucker, who also predeceased her. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Irby of Gretna and Nellie Burton of Chatham; one sister, Lillie Berger of Gretna; three half-sisters, Ada B. Boley of Lynch Station, Angel L. Burks O'Conner of Hurt and Annie B. King of Long Island; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was also predeceased by three brothers, Price Burks, Jack Burks and Charles Burks.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Lynn Marstin officiating. Interment
will follow in Greenfield Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of Betty Irby, 1981 Blue Ridge Drive.

Swanson Waller
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Swanson McIver Waller, 90, of 1517 Moore Street, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 26, 1909, in Halifax County, he was a son of Dr. Robert Floyd Waller and Lelia Brown Waller.
He was married
to Jessie Hodnett Waller, who predeceased him. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was also a member of Faulkner Memorial Masonic Lodge #91, the South Boston Shrine Club, The South Boston Lions Club and a former member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include two daughters, Ella W. Nargele and Lelia Belle Waller, both of Arlington.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Fox officiating. Interment
will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday at Powell Funeral Home.

Mary Johnson
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Mary Sue Hackney Johnson, 72, of 5193 Bold Springs Road, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at her residence.
Born Sept. 3, 1927, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of William Robert Hackney and Mozelle Gravitt Hackney.
She was married
to Roger Champion Johnson Sr., who predeceased her. She was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and was a retired cloth grader with J.P. Stevens.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Nancy J. Hackney of South Boston and Brenda J. Parrish of Danville; two stepsons, R.C. Johnson Jr. of Clarksville and Michael R. Johnson of Roxboro, N.C.; one brother, William G. Hackney of South Boston, and one sister, Shirley H. Comer of Haymarket, and a number of step-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one brother, Aaron M. Hackney.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Sullivan officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.

Elton Stowe
DRY FORK, Va. - Elton Thomas Stowe, 77, of 989 Dry Fork Road died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 13, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Russell Stowe and Dannie Fowlkes Stowe.
He was married
to Irene Gibson Stowe, who survives. He was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church and a member of the Fisherman's Club.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one sister, Rossie S. Saunders of Danville.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Venus Stowe, Mozell Shelton and Lois Grogan.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Scott Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Lewis and the Rev. Darrell T. Campbell officiating. Interment
will be in the Oakland United Methodist Church cemetery.

Kenneth Walker
DANVILLE, Va. - Kenneth "Boe" Forest Walker, 55, of 6240 Mount Cross Road died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 17, 1945, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Joseph Lester Walker and Carrie Payne Walker.
He was married
to Beverly Sitton Walker, who survives. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was born in and lived most of his life in the Mount Cross Community of Pittsylvania County, although he lived in Louisiana for a number of years. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Branch Highway Inc., Roanoke.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Wendy Walker Adams of Milton, N.C. and Debra Walker Khaswan of Danville; one son, Michael Goodman of the residence; one stepson, Stewart Goodman of Alaska; four sisters, Inez Scott and Thelma Sell, both of Oregon, and Margaret Gammon and Bettie Keatts, both of the Mount Cross Community; one brother, Herbert Walker of Danville, and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ross Range and the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating. Interment
will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Gertrude Adams
DANVILLE, Va. - Gertrude Adams, 69, of 812 Oak Hill Road, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital after several years of declining health.
Born Dec. 27, 1930 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Fred Adams and Mary Elizabeth Boyd Adams.
She was an employee of Pannell Knitting Mill for 18 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sisters, Martha Adams and Linell Adams of the residence, Annie Ephraim of Danville and Polly Carter of Dry Fork; five brothers, David Adams of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., Clinard Adams of Danville, Brady Adams of the residence, Mack Adams of Camden, N.J. and Charlie Adams of Axton.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. John W. Tinsley officiating. Interment
will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Willie White
DANVILLE, Va. - Willie White, 92, of 325 Wendell Scott Drive, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 6, 1907 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Henry and Delphia White.
He was married
to Elizabeth Wade White, who survives. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Java, and was an employee of Dan River Mills prior to his retirement.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by one sister, Mary Gunter of Danville; two brothers, Eddie White of Bronx, N.Y. and Pearley White of Portsmouth.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph Watkins officiating. Interment
will follow in Floral Hills Memory Garden cemetery.

Garnet Lynskey
DANVILLE, Va. - Garnet S. Lynskey, 84, of 836 Gemstone Lane, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Nov. 8, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Patrick Emmett Lynskey and Lou Soyars Lynskey.
She was a member of Vandola Baptist Church, where she held several positions in the WMU and taught Sunday school for over 50 years. She was the teacher of the Ollis Bible Class.
She lived her entire life in the Bachelor's Hall Community. Prior to her retirement, she worked in the payroll department of Dan River Inc.
Survivors include two sisters, Ruby L. McCubbins and Macie L. Earp, both of Danville.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Pearl L. Davis and Opal L. Taylor.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry D. Farrell and the Rev. Dr. J. Leroy Clack. Interment
will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Pete Nickolous
DANVILLE, Va. - Pete Nick Nickolous, 66, of 555 Cedarbrook Drive, died Monday, July 3, 2000, in Danville Regional Medical Center as the result of injuries sustained in an accidental fall several weeks ago.
Born Aug. 25, 1933 in Kerasohori, Greece, he was the son of Nick Nickolous and Helen Mandis Nickolous.
He was a member of Saint Peter's Greek Orthodox Church and the River Oak Church of God. He was owner and operator of Pete's Pizza.
Survivors include one niece, Kelly Nickolas of Danville; and two nephews, Larry Nicholas and Randy Nicholas, both of Greensboro, N.C.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Manios Nick Nickolous and Harry Nick Nickolous.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from Saint Peter's Greek Orthodox Church with Father Peter Rexinis officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
A Trisagion service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday from Townes Funeral Home.
Caroline Lawrence
DANVILLE, Va. - Caroline Elizabeth Lawrence, stillborn infant, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was the daughter of Kevin Dale Lawrence and Scottie Emerson Lawrence.
In addition to her parents, survivors include maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Irby Emerson of Java; paternal grandparents, Elmer S. Lawrence and Bonnie Setliff Lawrence of Ruffin, N.C., and paternal great-grandmother, Mary D. Lawrence of Ruffin, N.C.
She was predeceased by a grandfather, Leonard T. Emerson.
A graveside service will be held at noon Friday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Dr. Doug Barber officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 2512 Beechwood Lane.
