Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Marion Campbell Sr.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Marion Sanders Campbell Sr., 93, of 127 Murrah Drive died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at Magnolia Manor.
Born in Fort Lawn, he was the son of Major Campbell and Lizzie Vernadore Campbell.
He was married to Pansy Giles Campbell, who predeceased him.
He left his family farm as a young man and worked for the Highway Dept. building roads. He later worked at Rock Hill Finishing and Printing Company as a framer, he retired after 45 years as a foreman of the finishing department.
Survivors include three sons, Marion S. Campbell Jr. of Plano, Texas, Thomas G. Campbell of Williamsburg, Va. and Paul L. Campbell of San Diego; two brothers, the Rev. M.J. Campbell Jr. and James Campbell, both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Marie Arthur and Vernelle Wasylewski, both of Rock Hill; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by one daughter, Zana E. Campbell-Bomar.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday, at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charlie Lucas officiating. Interment icon will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Sunday, at Greene Funeral Home-Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebeneezer Road, Rock Hill.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 215 E. Main Street, Rock Hill, S.C. 29730.

Lillian Catherine Haskins Oakes

DANVILLE, Va. - Lillian Catherine Haskins Oakes, 75, of 101 Pine Hill Circle, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after three years of declining health and a two-day stay in the hospital.
Born on July 22, 1925, in the Whittles Depot Community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Millard Howard Haskins and the late Mary Ellen Hammock Haskins.
She was married to Robert Oakes, who died on July 29, 1991.
Mrs. Oakes resided in the Blairs Community of Pittsylvania County until her health began to decline and she had lived the past two and one half years with her son. She had retired from Dan River Inc. with 38 years of service where she worked in the card room. Mrs. Oakes was Baptist with her faith being in her Savior the Lord Jesus Christ.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Oakes and Peggy Fleenor Oakes, of Danville; one daughter, Nancy Reynolds of Blairs; three brothers, Clinton Haskins of Chatham; Raymond Haskins of Danville and Garnet Haskins of Cascade; three sisters, Vera Oakes, Thelma Davis and Mary Alice Phelps, all of Danville; grandchildren, Catherine O. Evans and husband Edward, Susan Oakes, Ernest Snead Jr. and wife Vickie Snead; great-grandchildren, Lorie Evans, Crystal Evans and Hunter Snead, all of Danville and whom she loved dearly; several nieces and nephews and a longtime friend, Elsie Davis.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Elmore Haskins, Jack Haskins and Charlie Sam Haskins.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating.
The family will receive friends 3-4 p.m. Sunday, at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and at other times at the residence of her son Robert Oakes, 101 Pine Circle, Danville, Va. off the Mount Cross Road.

John David “Nick” Rowsey

CHATHAM, Va. - John David “Nick” Rowsey, 73, of 12853 Franklin Tpke., died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after 10 years of declining health and a one-week stay in the hospital.
Born Aug. 8, 1927, in Pocahontas, W.Va., he was the son of the late John Huffman Rowsey and the late Doris Harper Rowsey.
He was married on Dec. 3, 1948, to Juanita Anderson Rowsey, who survives.
Mr. Rowsey had lived most of his life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. He had worked with the Commodore Corporation for over 20 years as a cabinet shop foreman prior to he and his wife owning and operating the former Nick and Nitas Restauant until his retirement due to health reasons. Mr. Rowsey was of the Baptist Faith.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Terry R. Ferguson of Dunlap, Tenn.; two sons, David R. Rowsey and Timothy A. Rowsey, both of Danville and two grandsons, Jason Cardwell of Danville and Patrick Ross of Oxford, N.C.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday, from the mausoleum in Danville Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Brian Edwards officiating. Interment icon will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday, at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and at other times at the residence.

Calvin Earl Shotwell

RINGGOLD, Va. - Calvin Earl Shotwell, 79, of 2897 Ringgold Church Road, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after six months of declining health and a 10-day stay in the hospital.
Born Feb. 23, 1921, in Roxboro, N.C., he was the son of William Henry Shotwell and Eva Pearl Tuck Shotwell.
On Nov. 1, 1946, he was married to Mary Ann Collie Shotwell, who survives.
Mr. Shotwell had lived his entire life in the Ringgold Community and was a member of the Ringgold Baptist Church. Prior to his retirement in 1986, he worked at Dan River Mills for 30 years as a loom fixer. Then he spent 15 years at Cones Mill in Greensboro, N.C. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 1267th Army Air Force as a M.P. in Germany. He received an honorable discharge on Jan. 3, 1946.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald Earl Shotwell and Patricia Shotwell of Chatham and James Randall Shotwell and Lisa B. Shotwell of Ringgold; two grandsons, Ronnie Shotwell of Chatham and Joshua and Cody Shotwell of Ringgold; three granddaughters, Kimberly Shotwell of South Boston; Kristy Shotwell of Chatham and Shaye Shotwell of Ringgold and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday, at Ringgold Baptist Church, with the Rev. Carl E. Burger officiating and military rites by American Legion Post No. 325. Interment icon will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and at other times at the residence.

Elsie Hardy

DANVILLE, Va. - Elsie Walton Hardy, 83, of 113 Dakota Drive died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at Stratford Health Care Center, after three months of declining health.
Born Oct. 31, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Jim Taylor Walton and Effie Moody Walton.
In Nov. 1934, she was married to the Rev. Willie Elvin Hardy, who predeceased her Oct. 4, 1998.
She lived in Baltimore County, Md. for over 40 years while her husband pastored churches in that area, and later moved to Martinsville before moving to the Mount Hermon Community of Pittsylvania County to live for the past two years. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
Survivors include one brother, Clifton Walton of Stoneville, N.C. and two sisters, Lillian W. Powell of Dry Fork and Adele W. Morris of Pelham, N.C.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her stepmother, Etta Farthing Walton; three sisters, Bell W. Loftis, Bessie W. Loftis and Mildred W. Durham and four brothers, Oscar Walton, Paul Walton, Quincey Walton and Earl Walton.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, with the Rev. Don Davidson, the Rev. Edd Walls and the Rev. Geary Walton officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and at other times at the residence.

Johny Hundley

BASSETT, Va. - Johny P. Hundley, 73, of Bassett died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville.
Born Feb. 16, 1927, In Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Howard Hundley and Annie Hairfield Hundley.
He was married to Dorothy Williams Hundley, who survives.
He was a cab driver with the Yellow Cab Company for 35 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Debra Wright of Bassett; two stepdaughters, Wanda Harris of Greensboro, N.C. and Patricia Smith of San Marcos, Calif.; three stepsons, Randy Harris of Martinsville, and Richard Harris and Robert Harris, both of Georgia; one sister, Irene Whitlow of Leasburg, N.C., and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 8 p.m Monday, at Bassett Funeral Service. Interment icon will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Schoolfield cemetery, in Danville.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Bassett Funeral Service.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Bassett Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 510 Bassett, Va. 24055.

Ola Campbell

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Ola Doggett Campbell, 75, of 155 Navy Lane died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at her residence.
Born Oct. 18, 1924, in Forest City, N.C., she was the daughter of Spurdeon Doggett and Lela Mode Doggett.
In July 1948, she was married to Wade Hampton Campbell, who predeceased her Aug. 12, 1977.
She lived most of her life in Danville and worked for Dan River Mills, Inc. for a number of years as a weaver. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, William Campbell of Shelby, N.C.; two daughters, Susan C. Durham of Martinsville and Sherry C. Fulk of Danville; three sisters, Dexter D. Johnson, Nell D. Vickers and Jeanette D. Herring, all of Forest City, N.C.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Tommy Campbell and a brother, Jennings Doggett.
A funeral will be held 7:30 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, with the Rev. Billy Harris officiating. Interment icon will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn cemetery, Norfolk, Va.
The family will receive friends 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel.

Frances Emily Phillips Snead

DANVILLE, Va. - Frances Emily Phillips Snead, 54, of 122 Roselane Drive died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at 210 Flynn Acres, Clarksville, Va.
Born April 1, 1946, in South Boston, Va., she was the daughter of Charlie Lee Philips and Frieda Simmons Phillips.
On July, 2, 1971, she was married to Jerry Wayne Phillips, who survives.
She was a member of Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church. She was a member of the Samaritan Group. She lived most of her life in Danville, where she worked for Diamond Paper Company, Inc. as a Bookkeeper.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Michelle Lea Snead of the residence; one son-in-law, Jimmy Lee Riggins Jr. of Ringgold; one brother, Charles Lee Phillips Jr. of South Boston; one grandson, Wesley James Riggins of Ringgold and one aunt, Mabel Fuller of Clarksville.
A funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, with the Reverend Rick Lancaster and the Reverend Clarence Jackson officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:00-8:30 p.m. Monday, at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and at other times at the residence, 122 Roselane Drive.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Mecklenburg County Life Saving Crew.

Muriel Phillips

HALIFAX, Va. - Muriel Landrum Phillips, 61, of 3236 North Terrys Bridge Road died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born March 2, 1939, in Halifax, she was the daughter of William Landrum and Hazel Guill Landrum.
She was married to Millard Phillips, who survives. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was self-employed and worked in cleaning.
In addition to her husband of Halifax, survivors include one son, Brian Phillips and one daughter, Rhonda Phillips, both of Halifax.
A graveside funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Union United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. Tony Brooks officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Brooks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Randi Riggan

ARLINGTON, Va. - Randi Lee Griffin Riggan, 44, of 1400 South Joyce Street Apt. #1118, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at his residence.
Born July 10, 1956, in Martinsville, she was a daughter of Lawrence Vernon and Nellie Griffin.
On Dec, 31, 1977, she was married to Dallas H. Riggan, who survives.
She was a resident of Danville for a few years and then moved to Arlington where she lived most of her life. Prior to her decline in health she was employed at the Smithsonian Institution as a tour guide organizer and was a member of the Docents Program of the Smithsomian. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one brother, Cabel Griffin of Martinsville.
A graveside funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Randy Duncan officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence of Rita J. Riggan, 830 Wyllie Ave in Danville.
