NATHALIE, Va. - Mary Jane Beale Cole, 55, of 3047 Cody Road died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at her residence.
Born April 13, 1945, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of William Roy Beale and Helen Jane Beale, who survives.
In addition to her mother of Nathalie, survivors include two sons, Tony Cole of Kernersville, N.C. and Todd Cole of Ishmere, Turkey and one brother, William Leroy Beale of Orlando, Fla.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment
will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her mother, Helen Jane Beale, 1177 Tobacco Road, Nathalie.
Harry Jones Fitts
CASCADE, Va. - Harry Jones Fitts, 36, of 8472 Cascade Road died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000.
Born July 31, 1964, in Leaksville, N.C., he was a son of Sanford Allen Fitts, Sr.
Cascade and Gary Ann Lamar Fitts, who survive.
He was married
to Virginia “Jennie” Smart Fitts, who survives.
He graduated from Tunstall High School and Danville Community College. He was employed by S.A. Fitts Tractor and Equipment in Cascade. Member of the Brosville-Cascade Volunteer Fire Department 1986-2000. Member of the newly formed Cascade Volunteer Fire Department. Former member of the Cascade Ruritan Club.
In addition to his wife of the home and his parents of Cascade, survivors include one son, Nathaniel Allen Fitts of the home; one daughter, Ann Lea Fitts of the home; two brothers, Sanford “Sandy” Allen Fitts, Jr. and his wife, Karen Chandler Fitts, both of Lebanon, Tenn. and Benjamin Watkins Fitts of Cascade; one niece, Kasey Blondell Fitts of Lebanon, Tenn.; his father-in-law, Garnet N. Smart of Eden, N.C. and his mother-in-law, Virginia D. Smart of Eden, N.C.
He was predeceased by a brother, James Lamar Fitts.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Lawson cemetery.
There will be no formal public visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Cascade Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 130, Cascade, VA. 24069.

Eunice Fuller
POQUOSON, Va. - Eunice Gray Fuller, 79, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000.
Born in Danville, Va., she was a daughter of Henry J. Gray Sr. and Elsie Gray.
She was married
to Howard Fuller, who predeceased her.
She had been a resident of the peninsula for 47 years and a resident of Poquoson for 10 years. She was a Civil Service at Fort Monroe. She was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church, a a former member of 35 years at West Hampton Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in mission activities. She attended Averett College in Danville and was a member of the Scottish Rite Ladies Auxilliary.
Survivors include one son, Buck Fuller of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Nancy Jo Childress of Poquoson and Judith Schneider of Lakewood, Colo.; one brother, Curtis Gray of Durham, N.C.; seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Emmaus Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Irvin Acree officiating. There will be a private interment at Penninsula Memorial at 3:30 for family and friends.
The family will receive friends 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday at Emmaus Baptist Church.

Edna Howerton
DANVILLE, Va. - Edna Lee Howerton, 90, of 135 Ginger Drive died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000 at Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 12, 1910, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Algie Ferrell and Fannie Fallen Ferrell.
She was married
to Samuel Howerton, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church in South Boston.
Survivors include three sons, Perry O. Howerton and Franklin A. Howerton, both of Danville and John D. Hager of Bat Shore, N.Y.; two daughters, Myrtle A. Fitzgerald of Danville and Johnsie V. Reid of Long Island, N.Y.; one brother, Roy Ferrell of Lanham, Md.; three sisters, Hallie B. Jackson, Adell Glass and Elsie Lee Anderson, all of Halifax; 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at noon Saturday at Mount Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Arthur E. Crews officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 2-7 p.m. Friday at Howerton Funeral Home Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Marshall Jennings
BLAIRS, Va. - Marshall Jennings, 86, of 2161 Malmason Road died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born June 14, 1914, he was a son of Robert Jennings and Minnie D. Jennings.
He was married
to Waynella Jennings, who predeceased him.
He was a member of Church of God Holiness Church in Blairs.
Survivors include four sons, Kelvin Womack and John Thomas Jennings, both of Danville, Marshall Jennings Jr. of Bridgeport, Conn. and Bobby Falkner of Topeka, Kan.; a foster daughter, Rebecca Adams of Martinsville; a sister, Annie Garrett of Greensboro, N.C. and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Howerton Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. James Fisher officiating. Interment
will be held at Hillcrest Burial Park.

Stella Marshall
DANVILLE, Va. - Stella Boyd Marshall, 76, of 808 Mount Cross Road died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at Stratford Health Care Center, after three years of declining health.
Born April 17, 1924, in Meadows of Dan, she was a daughter of Harry P. Boyd and Irena Boyd Boyd.
She was married
to Marvin Early Marshall, who survives.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she was a retired homemaker and a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one son, Rocky D. Marshall of Danville; one daughter, Scottie M. Alderson of Danville; two brothers, Eldon Boyd of Madison, N.C. and Edward Boyd of Vesta; two sisters, Sybil Underwood of Danville and Myrtle Broyals of Roanoke and two grandchildren.

Junior Neal
DANVILLE, Va. - Junior Edward Neal, 77, of 408 Girard Street died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after over five years of declining health and a 10-day stay at the hospital.
Born Aug. 8, 1923, in Danville, he was a son of Walter Flourney Neal and Ida Mae Compton Neal.
On May 9, 1942, he was married
to Mattie Sue Guill Neal, who survives.
He had lived all of his life in Danville. He retired from the former Independent Life Insurance Company, where he worked as a salesman for a number of years. He was a longtime member of the Tabernacle and a life member of the Archer T. Gammon Post of Disabled Veterans.
He was a veteran of World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Company B., 328th Infantry, 26th Yankee Division in the European Campaign. He received the bronze Star, the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Infantry Badge, European Theater Award, with two battle stars, the Meritorious Service Award, the Co. B. 328th Infantry Combat Badge, the American Theater of War Medal, the American Defense Medal, the European Theater of War Medal, the Victory Medal, the Occupation of Germany Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was honorably discharged in 1945, after his service to his country.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Jerry Edward Neal of Ringgold; three daughters, Ramona Gilmore Neal Fletcher of Danville, Betty Sue Neal Shelton of Blairs and Kathy Leigh Neal Forslund of Ringgold; two foster sons, Bobby Taylor of Baltimore, Md. and C.E. “Pete” Taylor of Petrolia, Texas; one sister, Ila Mae Neal Canupp of Danville; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by seven brothers, Carson F. Neal, Clarence Owen Neal, Artie Lee Neal, Stewart Woodrow Neal, Eugene Dollis Neal, Curtis Joshua Neal and Franklin Delano Neal; one sister, Hazel Marie Neal Jackson and one grandchild.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Tabernacle, with the Rev. Lamarr Mooneyham and the Rev. Cleo Hundley officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park, with full military honors by American Legion Post No. 325.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence.
Virginia Owens
KEELING, Va. - Virginia Catherine Owens, 64, of 1939 Birch Creek Road died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 14, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Ashley Valentine and Viola Brandon Valentine.
She was married
to Herbert Owens, who predeceased her.
She was employed as a health care worker, with Commonwealth Home Health Care and Hospice.
Survivors include three sisters, Frances Pauling of Ringgold, Sara Valentine of Hackensack, N.J. and Hilda Valentine of Riverdale, N.Y.; three brothers, Edward Valentine and John Valentine, both of Ringgold and William Berkley Valentine of Danville and one grandson.
A funeral will be held at noon Saturday, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Ringgold, with the Rev. Floyd Standfield officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her brother, Edward Valentine, 140 Maya Lane, Ringgold.

Avis Cordelia Wright
DANVILLE, Va. - Avis Cordelia Wright, 77, of 814 Piney Forest Road died November 15, 2000 at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born June 17, 1923 in Charlotte County, she was a daughter of the late Elijah and Fannie Davis Drew.
She was married
to Ned K. Wright, who predeceased her on February 16, 1983.
A retired teacher in the Danville City Public Schools, she taught third and fourth grades at Taylor and Woodberry Hills schools.
She was an active and faithful member of High Street Baptist Church. She participated in the Dorcas Missionary Circle, Hallelujah Chorus, Sunday school and vacation Bible school.
She was active in many civic and community organizations including The Links, Inc., Danville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Danville Retired Teachers Association, Church Women United, Danville Mental Health Association, A.A.R.P., Danville Perinnial Garden Club, Y.W.C.A., As You Like It Club and Fayetteville State University Alumni Association.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Wright (Rose); one grandson, Jayson Rose, one son-in-law, James Rose; four sisters, Ethel Vaughters, LaVerne Hill, Beatrice Conly and Daisy Ruff; one brother-in-law, R. Wylie Vaughters and one sister-in-law, Edythe Wright.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at High Street Baptist Church with Rev. Jerome B. Morris, officiating. Interment
will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
