DRY FORK, Va. - Ryland Garnett Collins, 91, of 15449 Mount Cross Road died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 22, 1909, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of John Leslie Collins and Kate Jefferson Collins.
He was married
to Catherine Gatewood Collins, who predeceased him Aug. 10, 1982. He spent most of his life in the Swansonville community where he was a retired farmer. He was previously employed with Dan River Inc. and was a member of Swansonville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Calvin G. Collins of the residence, Douglas A. Collins of Danville, and J. Carroll Collins and J. Milton Collins both of Swansonville; two sisters, Kathleen C. Giles of Chatham and Dorothy C. Turner of High Point, N.C.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one daughter, four brothers, Hubert M. Collins, Stanford J. Collins, Carson Collins and Clyde Collins and one sister, Clara V. Collins.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Williams and the Rev. Linwood Daniels officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Lillian Cook
DANVILLE, Va. - Lillian Williams Cook, 85, of 2526 North Main Street died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after five days of declining health. She had been a resident of Roman Eagle for 11 years.
Born May 28, 1915, in Danville, she was the daughter of Howard Williams and Rosa Bell Lewis Williams.
She was married
to Charles Sydnor Cook, who predeceased her Dec. 7, 1987. She lived her entire life in Danville and was of the christian faith, She taught Sunday school and was involved with the Boy Scouts through Fairview United Methodist Church. She was involved with the 4-H Club and was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Charles S. Cook Jr. of Richmond; two daughters, Judy Burnette of Cascade and Jackie East of Alexandria; one sister, Ruth Ann Kelly of Winter Haven, Fla.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, Bill Cook, who died March 19, 1999; three sisters, Gracie Hite, Maxine Williams and Thelma Williams and three brothers, Vincent "Beanie" Williams, Carlton Williams and Reggie Williams.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Hussey officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Bobby Crumpton
DANVILLE, Va. - Bobby Wayne Crumpton, 62, formerly of 120 Old Piney Forest Road died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Piney Forest Health Care Center and several years of declining health.
Born Sept. 26, 1938, in Caswell County, N.C., he was a son of Loyd Crumpton and Bertha Gentry Crumpton.
He was a veteran of the United States Army. He moved to Danville in 1987 after spending most of his life in Caswell County, N.C. He was a self-employed tile setter.
Survivors include one son, Anthony W. Crumpton of Danville; six sisters, Lemma C. Blackstock, Myrtle C. Yarbrough, Helen C. Talbert, Margaret C. Arnold, Shirley C. Motley and Phyllis C. Seamster, all of Danville; six brothers, Eli Crumpton and Bennie Crumpton, both of Providence, N.C., Larry Crumpton, Troy Crumpton, Harold Crumpton and Ray Crumpton, all of Danville.
He was predeceased by a brother, Herman Crumpton.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry Crumpton officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Fletcher Hudson
SCOTTSBURG, Va. - Fletcher Wayne Hudson, 65, of 5122 James D. Haggod Hwy died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 4, 1935, in Halifax County, he was a son of Fletcher Green Hudson and Etta Logan Conner Hudson.
He was married
to Betty Mae Henderson Hudson, who survives. He was a member of the South Boston Church of God.
In addition to his wife of Scottsburg, survivors include one daughter, Sheena Mae Hudson Snead of South Boston; two sons, John Wayne Hudson of Scottsburg and Roy L. Hudson of Creedmoor, N.C.; three sisters, Minnie Hudson Grove of News Ferry, Louise Hudson Williams of South Boston and Etta Mae Hudson Wilmoth of Halifax; five brothers, Herbert Floyd Hudson and Frank Jacob Hudson, both of Scottsburg, Oscar Rogers Hudson and George David Hudson, both of Lynchburg and Ernest Howard Hudson of Fredericksburg, and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs officiating. Interment
will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Lelia Millner
VERNON HILL, Va. - Lelia Pearl Forlines Millner, 85, of Rt. 1, Box 176 died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Twin Oakes Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 22, 1915, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Thaddus Napoleon Thornton and Mealcee Francis Shelton.
She was married
to Willie Thornton Millner. She was a member of Mullberry Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Jeanette M. Ingram and one son, Leroy Millner, both of Vernon Hill; three stepsons, Jimmy Millner of Appomattox, Robert Farmer of South Boston and Claude Farmer of Ringgold; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Luther S. Ramsey officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.

Mary Ann Paul
AXTON, Va. - Mary Ann Scarce Rigney Paul, 71, of 4008 Brookside Road died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at the residence of her son after 10 years of declining health.
Born Jan. 24, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Henry Scarce and Ella Tate Scarce.
She was first married
to Willie Edward Rigney, who predeceased her, and was later married
to Joseph James Paul Jr., who also predeceased her. She spent most of her life in Axton where she was a homemaker and member of Anderson Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, John Williams Rigney of Axton and two sisters, Clara Rigney of Axton and Marie Scarce Bean of Pelham, N.C.
She was predeceased by three brothers, William Scarce, Garland Scarce and Curtis Scarce.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Anderson Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Wimmer officiating. Interment
will follow at the family cemetery.

Kenneth Platt
KEELING, Va. - A memorial service for Kenneth H. Platt of 1600 Keeling Dr., will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, November 26, at 3 p.m.
Friends may greet the family in the Dunglinson-Roberts Room at the church following the service.
Mr. Platt, 78, beloved husband of Margaret F. Platt died on October 17, 2000.
Surviving members of his family include three children, four step-children, fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, Danville.
Arthur Lee Riley
DANVILLE, Va. - Arthur Lee Riley, 87, of 202 Mowbray Arch died Thursday morning, November 23, 2000 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Riley was born on November 21, 1913, in Red Bay, Alabama the son of Arthur Lester Riley and Lela Whitfield Riley.
He was married
for 62 years to Georgia Hopwood Riley who survives at the residence.
Mr. Riley was educated at Lambeuth Methodist College in Jackson, Tenn. and the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
Prior to retirement Mr. Riley worked for John W. Daniels as a comptroller. Prior to moving to Danville he worked for Union Carbide where he originated the Budget Department on the Manhattan Project in Oakridge Tennessee and later became a Division Head for the Union Carbide Atomic Plantin Paducah, Kentucky. Mr. Riley was a member of the Danville Rotary Club. For 32 years he and his wife enjoyed square dancing in the Danville and Martinsville area. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Danville and had served as an elder in his prior church memberships.
Besides his wife of the residence he is survived by four daughters, Georgia Lee Riley Sykes and her husband, Dr. Ted Ford Sykes of Johnson City, Tenn.; Jennifer E. Riley Chiapetta and her husband, William F. Chiapetta of Stamford, Conn.; Mary Celeste Riley Pugh of Williamsburg, VA; and Rebecca Suzanne Riley Hogan and her husband, Ted M. Hogan of Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Lela Bell Riley Johnson of Florence, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Michelle Sykes Gwisdella, Arthur Robyn Sykes, Jennifer Amy Chiapetta Heffron, Rachel Beth Chiapetta Marchetti, Anthony William Chiapetta, Adrian Rebecca Pugh and Riley Alan Pugh, and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister Marvel Fern Riley.
A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2000, at 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church of Danville. Rev. Jack Heinsohn will be conducting the services. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 24, 2000, 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at Townes Funeral Home.

Harry Haley
FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. - Harry Lee Haley, 60, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at his residence.
Born April 11, 1940, in Danville, Va., he was a son of Truselow Haley and Alvie Hundley Haley.
He spent most of his life in Atlanta, where he was employed by the Stewart Steel Company, as a driver. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Shea Haley; three brothers, Phil Haley of Woodbridge, Va., Harold Haley of Danville, Va. and Joseph Haley of Lynchburg, Va.; five sisters, Joyce Stewart of Danville, Jaqueline Paschall of Pelham, N.C., Geraldine Clifton of Eden, N.C., Evelyn Locklear of Alabama and Ella Campbell of Yanceyville, N.C.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Robertson officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery.

Harold D. Michel
BLAIRS, Va. - Harold D. Michel, 72, of 140 Oak Lane, Blairs, Va. died Friday, November 24, 2000 at his residence.
Mr. Michel was born on February 24, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Joseph Michel and Anna Smilner Michel.
He was married
to Ruth Michel who survives at the residence.
Mr. Michel was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Air Force. He worked with N.A.S.A. in the Apollo Space program. Mr. Michel was a retired engineer from the Klopman Division of Burlington Mills, Inc.
Besides his wife of the residence, he is survived by two sons, Stanley Michel of Raleigh, N.C. and Gregory D. Michel of Blairs, Va.; a daughter, Tara M. Hubbard of Chatham, Va.; one brother, Joseph T. Michel of Gladwyn, Mich.; one sister, Louise Mangum of Destin, Florida and two grandchildren, Chastity Crider of Chatham, Va. and Tyler Hubbard of Gretna, Va.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2000, 11:00 A.M. at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence at Oak Lane, Blairs.
