DANVILLE, Va. - Sylvia Marie Swann Carrington, 41, of 515 Third St. died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000.
Born Dec. 28, 1958, in Danville, she was the daughter of Edmond Swann Jr. and Evangelist Janie Shelton Swann, who survive.
She was educated in the Danville public school system and attended Danville Community College. She was a member of the Miracle Deliverance Church, Winston-Salem, N.C. She had a long career as a Certified Nursing Attendant with Roman Eagle Nursing Home and Riverside Health Care Center.
In addition to her parents, survivors include one son, Roger Steven Swann Jr. of Danville; one daughter, Jewell Swann of Danville; three brothers, Barry, David and Jerome Swann, all of Danville and two granddaughters.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bibleway Worldwide Cathedral with Apostle Lawrence G. Campbell officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her parents, 414 Gay St., Danville.

Ronald Belcher
DANVILLE, Va. - Ronald Lane Belcher, 48, of 224 Rockwood Drive died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000.
Born Oct. 17, 1952, in Danville, he was a son of Lowell Aubern Belcher and Thelma Elizabeth Walker Belcher.
On Aug. 7, 1976, he was married
to Susan Fulp Belcher, who survives. He lived in Hillsville from 1959-1965 before returning to Danville where he worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He was of the Methodist faith. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971-1975 and was a Sergeant with the Security Police until discharge.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Leah Kathryn Belcher of the residence; one brother, Gary A. Belcher of Winchester and one sister, Linda B. Swiger of Fancy Gap.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Levi Stroud Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park. Military honors will be performed by American Legion Post #325.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and other times at the residence.
Robert Bowman
DANVILLE, Va. - Robert Calvin Bowman, 88, formerly of Avalon Drive died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 18, 1912, in Washington County, he was a son of Sterling Bowman and Eliza Canada Bowman.
He was first married
to Mary Ellen Bowman, who predeceased him. He was later married
to Irene George Bowman, who also predeceased him. He spent most of his life in Danville where he was employed by Dan River Inc. brfore retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Glen Oak Drive.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Ethel Mae Wade of Martinsville; two stepsons, J.T. Wade and Wade D. Moorefield, both of Danville; one sister, Ora Ketchum of Danville and a number of stepgrandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 4 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Berkley officiating. Interment
will follow at Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his sister, 760 Holland Road.
Radford Bray
HALIFAX, Va. - Radford Covington Bray, 72, of 1145 Dan River Church Road died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at his residence.
Born May 24, 1928, in Halifax County, he was a son of John Nathan Bray and Kate Covington Bray.
He was married
to Rosalie Conner Bray, who survives. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of Halifax, survivors include one daughter, Dana Bray Estes of Virginia Beach and one sister, Virginia Bray Elliott of Roanoke.

Blanche Compton
DANVILLE, Va. - Blanche Noonkester Compton, 94, of 868 Edmonds St. died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 22, 1906, in Wytheville, she was a daughter of Lee Andrew Noonkester and Teshia Sexton Noonkester.
She was married
to Roy Compton, who predeceased her.
She lived most of her life in Danville. She worked in No. four Weave Room at Dan River Mills, until her retirement in 1965. She was a member of First Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include two stepsons, Leroy Compton of Durham, N.C. and Johnny Compton of Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, Alberta Satterwhite of Leasburg, N.C.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one daughter, Evelyn S. Nerling and one brother, Earl Noonkester.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Berkley officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Mary Harris Dodson
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Harris Dodson, 86, of 330 Arlington Place, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at the residence of her granddaughter, 314 Astor Court after one year of declining health.
Born June 14, 1914, in Danville, she was the daughter of William Irvin Adkins and Nora Adkins Harris.
On November 17, 1933, she was married
to the late Harry Curtis Dodson who died in April of 1971.
Mrs. Dalton had lived all of her life in Danville. She had retired from Rippe's where she worked as a seamstress for over 20 years. Mrs. Dalton was a member of the College Park Baptist Church where she worked in the Nursery Department for a number of years.
Survivors include one brother, Irvin Harris of Providence, N.C.; one granddaughter, Kelly L. Powell of Danville; one grandson, L. Scott Powell of Richardson, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Amy Nichole Powell and one great-grandson, Matthew Curtis Powell, both of Richardson, Texas.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one daughter, Lois Dodson Powell who died on June 1, 1990.
A funeral will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday from the graveside in Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Jim Hewitt officiating.

Katherine Dyke
BOSTON, Mass. - Katherine Irene Mower Dyke, 87, formerly of Danville, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Milton Health Care Facility and a period of declining health.
She was born March 25, 1913, in Schenectedy, N.Y.
She was married
to LeGrand P. Hyde Jr., who predeceased her, and was later married
to Jack S. Dyke, who also predeceased her. In 1937, she graduated from the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, Troy, N.Y.
Survivors include children, LeGrand P. Hyde III of Knoxville, Tenn., William D. Hyde of Peterborough, N.H. and Barbara Jane Hyde of Hyde Park, Mass; five rgandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held 7 p.m. Friday at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, Milton. Interment
will be private.

Blanch Howell Garris
DRY FORK, Va. - Blanch Howell Garris, 82, of 476 W.I. Powell Road, Dry Fork, Va. died Sunday afternoon November 26, 2000, at her home.
Born May 20, 1918, in Johnston County, N.C., she was a daughter of Fristus Haywood Howell and Katie Elizabeth Watkins Howell.
On July 10, 1932, she was married
to the Rev. Harry W. Garris, who predeceased her.
Mrs. Garris received a degree in Cosmetology from the Carolina College of Beauty Culture in Raleigh, N.C. For over 50 years was self-employed as a hair dresser. She served with her husband, in the churches he pastored, as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. She also served as a choir member and as a Sunday School teacher at Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was a member.
Survivors include two daughters, the Rev. Ruby Garris White and Carol Garris Yeatts and her husband, Harold Yeatts, all of Dry Fork, Va.; two brothers, Melvin Thadius "Thad" Howell of Kenly, N.C. and William "Bill" Roland Howell of Heathsville, Va.; one sister, Ida Alene Howell Wright of Eaton-Rapids, Mich.; four grandchildren, the Rev. H. Garry Yeatts of Mt. Holly, N.C., Dr. Dewey Yeatts of Murray, Ky., Mary E. White Tarillion of Charlotte, N.C. and Carol E. White Moore of Franklin Springs, Ga. and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, six sisters and one son-in-law, Edward Franklin "Frank" White Jr.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Burial Park, with the Rev. Harry Meadows and the Rev. Kenneth Terry officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence only.

Oakes Griffith, Jr.
CASCADE, Va. - Herman Oakes Griffith, Jr., 69, of 105 Deerwood Tract Court died Monday, November 27, 2000, at his residence after a sudden illness.
Born Nov. 6, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Herman Oakes Griffith, Sr. and Helen Hundley Griffith.
He was married
to Mariolyne Haymore Griffith, who survives. Mr. Griffith had lived his entire life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. He was retired from Wyatt Buick. He was a member of Brosville United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Herman Oakes Griffith III of Danville and Kenneth Lane Griffith of Lincolnton, N.C.; one daughter, Cynthia G. Moser of Hickory, N.C.; four grandchildren, Bevin Pulliam, Amity Griffith, Rick Moser and Gid Moser and one great-grandchild, Mikayah Saige Pulliam.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. David Rochford officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery.

Ressie Vaughn Henderson
DANVILLE, Va. - Ressie Vaughn Henderson, 84, of 268 Guilford St. died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three years of declining health and a one week hospital stay.
Born Jan. 11, 1916, in Greenville, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Dave Vaughn and Leoda Carter Vaughn Marshall.
She was married
to Jay Edgar Henderson, who predeceased her July 8, 1969.
Mrs. Henderson had lived her entire life in Danville and prior to her retirement worked as a Cafeteria Manager for the Danville Public Schools. She was a member of the Keen Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Ann Henderson Vaughn of Danville; one son, James Edward Henderson of Danville; one brother, Robert A. Marshall of Clarksville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Kristy Henderson Ruth of Blairs and Korey Lee Henderson of Atsugi, Japan and four great-grandchildren, Destiny Borroughs, Johnny Brooks, Amanda Ruth and Savannah Ruth.
