Jack Miller
GRETNA, Va. - Jack Hurt Miller, 56, of New Rochelle, N.Y., formerly of Gretna, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in New Rochelle, N.Y.
Born Feb. 5, 1944, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Miller.
He was married
to Jacqueline Parris Miller, who survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Sophia James; two sisters, Irene Wiggins and Katherine Miller; four brothers, Andrew Miller, Harold Miller, George Miller and Cary Miller and four grandsons.
He was predeceased by one brother, Deroy Miller, in 1991.
A graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. at the Miller Family cemetery, Johnson Mill Road, with the Rev. John Townes officiating.

Dorothy Paylor
DANVILLE, Va. - Dorothy Lacy Paylor, 99, of 201 Robertson Ave. died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 16, 1901, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Robert Allen Lacy and Mary Bettie Kent Lacy.
On Sept. 25, 1924, she was married
to Earle Whitaker Paylor Sr., who predeceased her, Sept. 8, 1998.
She graduated from James Madison University in 1964, with a Bachelor’s Degree in education. She was a member of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority. She was a retired Public School teacher and was a member of the Virginia Retired Teachers Associaton. She had been treasurer of the Dist. E. Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where she was a past president and active member of United Methodist Women.
Survivors include one daughter, Bettie Kent Paylor of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sons, Dr. Earle W. Paylor Jr. of Richmond, John J. Paylor of Paoli, Pa. and Robert A. L. Paylor of Wilton, Conn.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Townes Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Milstead officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Townes Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Main Street United Methodist Church or the Danville Life Saving Crew.
Ray Price Sr.
LYNCHBURG, Va. - Ray Kenneth Price Sr., 86, of 416 Oakridge Blvd. died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born Aug. 13, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Clyde Powell Price Sr. and Bessie Gay Price.
He was a retired salesman, with the C.B. Halsey Company. He was a member of Anderson Memorial United Methodist Church, Anderson Masonic Lodge 258 and A.F. and A.M., American Legion Post 232.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Ray Kenneth Price Jr. of Atlanta, Ga. and John B. Price of Fredericksburg; two daughters, Margaret Perkey of Lynchburg and Elizabeth Gentry of Danville; three brothers, James Price of Akron, Ohio, Douglas Price Sr. of Gretna and Clyde P. Price Jr. of Gretna; two sisters, Sara Graham and Dorothy Dalton, both of Gretna and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Mallory officiating. Interment
will follow at Gretna Burial Park, with military honors by V.F.W. Post 4165 and D.A.V. Chapter 46.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, Dorothy Dalton, 604 Leftwich St., Gretna.

Vera Puckett
SCOTTSBURG, Va. - Vera Ellen West Puckett, 94, of 5063 Clays Mill Road died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born April 29, 1906, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of John West and Lelia Jennings West.
She was married
to Ivan Udophus Puckett, who survives.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, John Will Puckett and Russell Ivan “Shine” Puckett, both of Scottsburg, Hugh Brantley Puckett of Pamplico, S.C.; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tony Brooks officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her son, John Will Puckett, 5180 Bethel Road.

Moncie Shelton
DANVILLE, Va. - Moncie E. Shelton, 59, of 442 Bradley Road died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 28, 1941, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Moncie C. Shelton and Mary Barksdale Shelton.
He was married
to Loritta Shelton, who survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one brother, Henry Martin of Chatham and one sister, Trudy Shelton of Chatham.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Watson Level Baptist Church with the Rev. Katie McKenzie. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Howerton Funeral Home.

Lillian Worley
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Lillian K. Worley, 79, of 1409 Hillcrest Ave., formerly of Danville died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center.
Born May 15, 1921, in Henry County, she was a daughter of William Thomas Kimball and Naomi Martin Kimball.
She was married
to Jack Worley, who predeceased her.
She worked at Martin’s Cleaners and was a member of a Baptist Church in Danville.
Survivors include two stepsons, James Worley of Hurt and Russell Worley of Gretna; one stepdaughter, Gracie Worley of Bedford; one sister, Mary K. Holland of Martinsville and one half-brother, Cabel Kimball of Eden, N.C.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by one stepson, Sherlee Worley.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Roselawn Burial Park, with Dr. Michael Hatfield officiating.

Margaret Richie
DANVILLE, Va. - Margaret Yeatts Richie, 80, formerly of 1802 North Main St. died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at the residence of her son, 200 Eagle Lane after a period of declining health.
Born Jan. 7, 1920, in Danville, she was the daughter of James Thomas Yeatts and Mozelle Ruby Shelton Yeatts.
On Jan. 20, 1950, she was married
to James Willie Richie, who predeceased her July 9, 1988. She was a nursing assistant for Roman Eagle Memorial Nursing Home for over 40 years. She lived her entire life in Danville and was a former member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a member of The Tabernacle.
Survivors include two sons, James Ray Richie of Danville and James Henry Richie of Richmond; one daughter, Sue R. Layne of Timonium, Md.; one sister, Angerine Stutz of Danville; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Freddy Vicks officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Ruth Crosby
DANVILLE, Va. - Ruth A. Crosby, of 642 Franklin St. died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 27, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Christopher Crosby and Betty W. Crosby.
She was a shift worker at Dibrell’s Tobacco Company.
Survivors include one son, Lee L. Crosby of Bl;airs; two daughters, Barbara J. Harden and Lynda Stokes, both of Danville; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Cunningham and Hughes Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Booker George officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Mae Goodman
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary “Mae” Morgan Goodman, 81, of 600 Main St died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center Emergency Department, after 18 months of declining health and a one-day stay at the hospital.
Born July 6, 1919, in Danville, she was a daughter of Allen Martin Morgan Sr. and Bertha Elizabeth Long Morgan.
She was married
to Ralph C. Goodman, who predeceased her.
She had lived all of her life in Danville, where she had worked for Dan River Inc. in the 4-B Weave of the Schoolfield Division as a weaver until her retirement, with over 35 years of service. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one brother, William I. Morgan of Danville and one sister, Pauline M. Charles of Midlothian.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by five brothers, Allen M. Morgan Jr., Herman L. Morgan, Ed. W. Long, Berkley H. Long and James W. Long; and three sisters, Mary M. Glass, Mabel M. Hargrave and Martha M. Rushing.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Burial Park, with the Rev. Carl Burger officiating.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence of her brother, William I. Morgan, 116 Eden Place.
