DANVILLE, Va. - Curtis James Gregory, 46, of 116 East Thomas St., died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at the Friendship Manor Nursing Center in Roanoke.
Born Jan. 12, 1954, in Danville, he was the son of Richard James Gregory and Geneva Price Gregory, who survives.
Survivors include two daughters, Lashaunda Gregory of Danville and Valerie Williams of Lynchburg; one son, Terrell Gregory of Danville; seven sisters, Patricia Gregory, Mildred Saunders, Lisa Saunders, Perry Brandon, Joyce Williams and Angela Montague, all of Danville, and Debra Rouce of Albany, N.Y.; one brother, Charles Montague of Danville and six grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Vance Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Herbert Dickerson officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Dorothy H. “Dottie” Guill
DANVILLE, Va. - Dorothy H. “Dottie” Guill, 67, of 127 Layton Ave. died Monday afternoon December 18, 2000, at her residence.
Born December 28, 1932, in Danville, Va., she was a daughter of Lawrence Washington Henderson and Geraldine Walton Lewis, both deceased.
On December 28, 1950, she was married
to Melvin E. Guill, who survives.
She worked at Schewels Furniture Co. until retirement. She was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church, Member of Dan-Pitts A.B.W.A. also member of March of Dimes. She was Past women of the year-A.B.W.A. Member of Board of Directors, March of Dimes. also member of Able servants Sunday School Class.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Sandie C. Holley of 2010 Bridgewood Dr., Danville, Va. and Ms. Sharon G. Swicegood of 6171 Riverside Dr., Danville, Va.; one son-in-law, W. Frank Holley Jr. of Danville, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Landon W. “Nancy” Waller of Ruffin, N.C.; four grandchildren, Martha Swicegood Davis of Toano, Va., W. Frank Holley III. of Danville, Va.; Rebecca L. Swicegood of Danville, Va. and Mary Katharin Holley of Danville, Va.; one grandson-in-law, William Alfred Davis VI of Toano, Va.
A funeral will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday December 20, 2000 at Mount Hermon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Davidson and the Rev. R.J. Barber Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday December 19, 2000 7-8:30 P.M. at Mount Hermon Baptist Church and at other times at the residence, 127 Layton Ave.

Dorothy Graham
SAND SPRINGS, Okla. - Dorothy Alene Graham, 70, of Hutchinson, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Oakdale Manor.
Born July 19, 1930, in Jackson County, she was a daughter of Luther L. Bell and Eunice Simonton.
On April 14, 1949, she was married
to Donald L. Graham, who predeceased her June 17, 2000. She was a lifelong resident of Hutchinson until recently moving to Sand Springs. She was a graduate of Ocina High School, Oaklahoma. She was retired from J.C. Penney Co. after 27 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and member and past president of Ladies Aux. Union United Chemical Workers Local 188.
Survivors include four sons, Jerry of Ringgold, Va., Danny and Scott of Sand Springs, and Larry of Tempe, Ariz.; one daughter, Deanna G. Harbold of Mesa, Ariz.; one foster son, Jesse Reed of Hutchinson; two brothers, Doyle Bell of Hutchinson and David Bell of Goddard, Ka; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one brother, Dwight Bell.
A funeral will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliot Mortuary with Pastor Charles Boaz officiating. Interment
will follow at Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary.

Adelle Haynes
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Adelle Vivian Haynes, of Lakebridge Health Care Center in Johnson City, Tennessee, died at 8:30 P.M. Friday, December 15, 2000, at the center.
She was formerly of Orchard Street in Greenville, Tennessee.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was retired from the Upper East Tennessee Human Rescource Development as a social worker. She was a hospice volunteer, a member of the Foster Grandparents, League of Women Voters, Andrew Johnson Club, MEals on Wheels Program and a number of other civic and charitable organizations.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Paul J. Haynes; a daughter: Sally Ann McWherter; five sisters and one brother.
She is survived by two grandsons: Chris McWherter of Bluff City, TN and Gary McWherter of Roan Mountain, TN; a great grandson: Dustin Haynes Cox McWherter of Greenville, TN; and a sister: Marie Reynolds of Richmond, VA; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Monday, December 18, 2000, at Christ Chapel of First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Dan Donaldson officiating.
Interment will take place at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 19, 2000, at Highland Park cemetery in Danville, Virginia.
There will be no formal visitation, but friends may call at their convenience at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
Clarence L. Moon
DANVILLE, Va. - Clarence Lafayette Moon, 77, of 200 Astor Court died Friday, December 15, 2000, at Salem Health & Rehabilitation Center, Salem after six years of declining health. He had been a resident of Salem Health Center for six years.
Born September 25, 1923, in Danville, he was a son of Claude Lafayette Moon and Esther Parcell Moon.
On March 24, 1951, he was married
to Charlotte Marshall Moon, who survives.
Mr. Moon had spent his entire life in Danville. He was a bookkeeper for Pure Oil Company for many years. Mr. Moon was a member of Woodberry Hills Baptist Church. Member of Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. #122, Member of American Legion Post #325, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19.
He served in the United States Army, 3rd Infantry Division.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Moon Hendricks and Steve Hendricks of New Milford, CT; one sister, Lucille Fagot of Lexington, NE; one granddaughter and one grandson, Heather Hendricks and Patrick Hendricks of New Milford, CT.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Claude Moon and Buddy Moon.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday, December 18, 2000, at Woodberry Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Kauffelt and the Rev. Lewis Harris officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Irene Sofranko Snead
DANVILLE, Va. - Irene Sofranko Snead, 80, of 716 Kemper Road died Sunday, December 17, 2000; 2:08 a.m., at Danville Regional MEdical Center after a decline ine health for three years and one day at the hospital.
Born April 10, 1920, in Freeland, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of John Sofranko and Mary Dourchin Sofranko.
She was married
to Paul Blanchard Snead, who predeceased her February 1964.
Mrs. Snead was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. She lived in Danville for 55 years where she owned a beauty shop out of her home on Kemper Road.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Snead and susan Sigmon, both of Danville; one sister, Mildred Popick of Pennsylvania and two grandsons, Blanchard Sigmon of the U.S. Navy and Whitney Sigmon of Danville.
A funeral will be held 4 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Kleinfelter and the Rev. Caldwell Day officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Willie Starling
CHATHAM, Va. - Willie H. Starling, 54, of 12301 Anderson Mill Road died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 18, 1946, in Pittsylvania County, He was a son of Mae Starling, who survives.
He was married
to Blanche Campbell Satrling, who also survives. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include three sons, Victory T. Starling of Gretna, Clifton L. Starling of Burkeville and Keith W. Starling of Rocky Mount; one sister, Shirley Cook of Callands and four grandchildren.

DANVILLE, Va. - Eva Ruth Totten, 75, of 110 Westmore Drive died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 28, 1924, in Caswell County, N.C., she was a daughter of James Knox and Geneva Stokes Knox.
She was married
to William H. Totten, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one son, Ricky L. Totten of Danville; one sister, Geraldine Simmons of Danville and one brother, Edward Knox of Danville.

Merlie Towler
GRETNA, Va. - Merlie Towler, age 86, died Monday, December 18, 2000 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 2, 1914 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, he was a son of the late John G. Towler and Nannie Kate Towler. Mr. Towler was predeceased by three sisters and a brother, Irene Osborne, Gertrude Jennings, Hattie Grimes and Berkley Towler. He was a retired employee of Dan River Mills, a member of Sialom United Methodist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by area nieces and nephews, Brenda Brooks, Ruby Cravens, Gladys Osborne, Emory Osborne and Roger Osborne; a special friend Peggy East of Danville; other nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2000 at the Wagner Family cemetery by Rev. Curtis English.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his niece, Brenda Brooks, 289 Cooksburg Road, Chatham.

Lewis Callands
GRETNA, Va. - Lewis Callands, 80, of 449 Hodnett Road died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Brookneal.
Born Dec. 29, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Raleigh Callands and Margaret Walthall Callands.
He was married
to Ellen Callands, who predeceased him.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, where he served as a member of the Trustee Board.
Survivors include two sons, Lewis Callands Jr. and Deroy Callands, both of Washington, D.C.; one daughter, Belinda Hughes of Maryland; one brother, Earnest Callands of Gretna; one sister, Helen Robertson of Gretna; 11 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one daughter, Clara Staggs; two sons, Raleigh Callands and Daryl Wayne Callands; two brothers, Frank Callands and Albert Callands and three sisters, Mary Alice Blue, Geneva Keatts and Gracie Layne.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, with the Rev. R.P. King officiating.
Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
