Wilbur Kelley Sr.
GRETNA, Va. - Wilbur Oscar Kelley Sr., 84, of 3508 Renan Road died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at his residence.
Born Dec. 17, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Otey Harris Kelley and Lottie Booker Kelley.
He was married
to Ava Mae Bennett Kelley, who predeceased him. He was a farmer and member of Renan Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member and former deacon of Straightstone Baptist Church.
Survivors include five sons, Otey H. Kelley II, Gayre Kelley and Michael Kelley, all of Gretna, Wilbur O. Kelley Jr. of Evington and Frank Kelley of Lynchburg; two sisters, Ayleen Riley of Hampton and Cecil "Cricket" Reese of Roanoke; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Jesse Kelly and Otey Harris Kelley Jr.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Straightstone Baptist Church with the Rev. James Manuel officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Elizabeth Rodgers
DANVILLE, Va. - Elizabeth Rodgers, 62, of 638 Monument St. died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at her residence.
Born Feb. 25, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Otis Mack Rodgers and Nora Irby Rodgers.
Before a decline in health, she was employed with the Bryan Center Nursing Home, Yanceyville, N.C.
Survivors include six daughters, Teresa Hunt, Lenora Rodgers, Juanita Rodgers, Maria Rodgers and Earline Keen, all of Danville and Kathy Avery of Dale City; three sons, James Swan Jr., Fred Rodgers and Khaleel Rodgers, all of Danville; three sisters, Julia Farmer and Shirley Dodson of Danville and Ella Brown of Richmond; three brothers, Walter Rodgers and Williams Rodgers, both of Danville and Herman Walker of East Orange, N.J.; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Howard Graves officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Hilda Bivens
DANVILLE, Va. - Hilda McGuire Bivens, 61, of 304 Clover Lane died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at her residence.
Born August 16, 1939, in Danville, she was the daughter of Gollard L. McGuire and Virgie Davis Williams, who survives.
She was married
to David J. Bivens, who survives. She lived in Danville all her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of Riveroak Church of God where she was also a choir member.
In addition to her mother of Danville and husband of the residence, survivors include two sons, Michael David Bivens of Tulsa, Okla. and Anthony Duane Bivens of Sutherlin; four daughters, Rose Hurley of Pelham, N.C., Teresa Tuck and Wendy Moran, both of Ringgold and Shelia Davis of Greenville, S.C.; four brothers, Bobby McGuire, Wayne McGuire, David McGuire and Danny McGuire, all of Danville; two sisters, Darlene Worley and Donna Carter both of Danville; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one sister, Rosa Mae McGuire.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Riveroak Church of God with the Rev. Tim Nuckles and the Rev. Neal Isom officiating. Place of interment will be announced at a later time.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the church and other times at the residence.

Dan Kelly Blackmon
DANVILLE, Va. - Dan Kelly Blackmon, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Duke Medical Center as a result of an automobile accident.
Born Oct. 22, 1915, in Kingstree, South Carolina, he was a son of Ernest Simpson Blackmon and Docia Threatt Blackmon Bell.
He was married
to Vera Arthur Blackmon, who predeceased him.
Mr. Blackmon lived most of his life in the Danville area where prior to his retirement he was employed with Dan River Inc. Mr. Blackmon was a member of Danville Bible Chapel and was a Mason. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army. A very beautiful worship service was held at Duke Hospital on Wednesday, December 27, 2000 by The Reverend Jack Snyder of Pastoral Services at Duke.
Survivors include six sisters, Pauline Blackmon Williams, Erma Blackmon Henry, Dorothy Bell Hardin and Ernestine Blackmon Couch, all of Lancaster, S.C., and Mary Bell Norman of Virginia Beach and Sara Bell Lundie of Newport News, and his best friend and sweetheart, Doris Davis of Danville. He was predeceased by one daughter, Ara Jean Blackmon Farmer.
Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park with the Elder Mike Fox and Elder Mike Sasser officiating. Full Masonic and military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 1097.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel.

Beulah Burton
HALIFAX, Va. - Beulah Powell Burton, 85, of 3056 Howard P. Anderson Road died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Berry Hill Nursing Home.
Born August 4, 1915, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Robert Wyley Powell and Toy Lee Ingram Powell.
She was married
to John Burton.
She was a member of Winns Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Michael Burton of Winston-Salem, N.C. and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Winns Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Welch officiating. Interment
will take place in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Powell Funeral Home.

Joe Devins
CHATHAM, Va. - Joe Doug Devins, 78, of 10057 Anderson Mill Road died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at his residence.
Born Feb. 10, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of George and Jennie Devins.
He was a veteran of World War II and a farm laborer.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Margie White of Danville and one stepson, Frank Womack of Bassett.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Burial Park with Bishop Dennis Williams officiating.

Lucille Ferrell
HALIFAX, Va. - Lucille Hughes Ferrell, 70, of 1114 Union Church Road died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at her residence.
Born April 13, 1930, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Earl W. Hughes and Annie Richie Hughes.
She was married
to Larnie R. Ferrell Sr.
Survivors include one daughter, Diane Ferrell Blackstock of Danville; one son, Ray Ferrell of Danville; six sisters, Mary H. Hawker of Danville, Ocie H. Gammon of Ruffin, N.C., Doris H. Ford and Janice H. Setney, both of Florida, Ruth H. Smith of Halifax and Ellen H. Booth of Sutherlin; one brother, J.E. Hughes of Danville; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by one sister, Ella H. Hanks.

Alma Graham
DANVILLE, Va. - Alma Jones Graham, 88, formerly of 419 Mimosa Street died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after two years of declining health. She had been a resident at Piney Forest Health Care Center for one month.
Born August 29, 1912, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Lucious A. Jones and Mary Bell Guilliams Jones.
She was married
to Robert Roscoe Graham, who predeceased her. She spent most of her life in Danville where she worked at Dan River Inc. and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty G. Sames of Roanoke; one son, Arnold Allen Graham of Providence, N.C.; one brother, Brown Jones of Danville; two sisters, Sara Wimmer of Roanoke and Lula Mae Beale of Providence, N.C.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Schoolfield cemetery with the Rev. Jack Robertson officiating.

Dekard Barbour
NATHALIE, Va. - Dekard Barbour, 88, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 11, 1912, in Halifax County.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Nathalie, with the Rev. A. L. Dean officiating. Interment
will follow at the Barbour Family cemetery, Nathalie.

John Davis
GAFFNEY, S.C. - John William Davis, 62, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at his residence.
Born Dec. 25, 1938, in Gaffney, he was a son of William Davis and Carrie Banks, who survive.
He was married
to Alice Leigh Davis, who survives.
In addition to his wife of Halifax, Va. and his parents of Gaffney, survivors include one daughter, Wanda Cloud of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Carolyn Monroe of Silver Spring, Md. and Gloria Davis of Gaffney; three brothers, Marvin Davis and Lamon Davis, both of Boston, Mass. and Roy Davis of Gaffney and four grandchildren.
