Roger Wayne Stallings
BLAIRS, Va. - Roger Wayne Stallings, 48, of 2437 Hunters Lane, died Sunday, December 31, 2000, at his residence after four years of declining health.
Born February 28, 1952, he was a son of Waverly Luther Stallings and Pauline Setliff Stallings, who survives.
Roger lived his life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area where he was part owner and operator of Stallings Construction Inc. until his retirement due to declining health. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the National Guard.
In addition to his beloved friend and soul mate, Patsy Sellers of the residence, Roger was survived by his Mother, Pauline S. Stallings; one son, Waverly A. “Little Man” Stallings, one sister, Barbara Ann Shorter all of Danville, one brother, Waverly Lee Stallings of Axton, VA. and one grandchild. Roger was predeceased by his father Waverly Luther Stallings and a brother Gary B. Stallings.

Elmer Clarke
DANVILLE, Va. - Elmer Clarke, 80, of 432 Hermitage Drive died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 5, 1920, in Danville, he was a son of Charlie Clarke and Emma Will Martin Clarke.
He was married
to Lelia Virginia Clarke, who predeceased him. He was a retired employee of the State of Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Commission and was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Survivors include one daughter, Tarsha Clarke of Danville; two sons, Michael Clarke and William Christopher Clarke, both of Danville.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Loyal Baptist Church with the Rev. Lovell Maxwell officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the home of Phyllis Whipple, 150 Arey Court.

Claudine D. Crawley
GRETNA, Va. - Claudine Dalton Crawley, age 70, of 105 Dalton Street, Gretna died Tuesday, January 2, 2001 in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 6, 1930 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Claude E. Dalton and Lacy Scruggs Dalton. Mrs. Crawley was an active member of Piney Fork Baptist Church where she served the WMU and she was a home maker.
She is survived by her husband, Herman D. Crawley of the residence; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and James Pearson of Danville and Connie and James Chaney of Gretna; two sisters, Linda Yates of Greensboro, NC and Mary Alice Gellar of Surf City, NC; four grandchildren, Stuart Pearson and his wife Audrey, Ashley Pearson, Trae Chaney and Dustin Chaney.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2001 at Piney Fork Baptist Church by Rev. Joe Glass and Rev. Ernest Roebuck. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 105 Dalton Street, Gretna.

Peggy Rose Jones
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Peggy Rose Jones, 64, of 1065 Clark-Jordan Trail, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 18, 1936, in Nottoway Co., she was the daughter of Howard R. and Hallie Spencer Jones.
She was a retired office manager at Cary’s Electronics. She was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church where she was treasurer, Sunday School teacher and a member of the UMW. She was also secretary of the Cluster Springs Fire Dept. Support Group and was active in the Downtown Mission.
Survivors include one brother, William A. Jones of South Boston, and one sister, Martha J. Northey of Richmond. She was predeceased by one brother, Harry W. Jones.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Davidson officiating. Interment
will be held at Oak Ridge cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.

Clarence Keller
DANVILLE, Va. - Clarence Henry Keller, 80, of 1172 South Boston Rd, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at the residence after 10 months of declining health.
Born February 8, 1920, in South Carolina, he was the son of Cleveland David and Harrie Ford Brown Keller.
He was married
Sept. 2, 1942, to Sybil Dillard Keller, who survives.
He lived most of his life in Danville and was a retired supervisor at Dan River Mills. He was a member of the Tabernacle and had served the community in many capacities including president of the Glenwood Elementary School P.T.A., president of the Glenwood Civic Club and was a former cub scout leader. He was a former member of Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent and teacher, and on the building committee. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the European Theatre during World War II.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, James Alan Keller of Oarfield, Pa. and Gerald Lynn Keller of Danville; one daughter, Janet Carol Booker of Danville; one brother, Manning Keller of Danville; three sisters, Alberta K. Riddle of Danville, Agnes K. Cook of Blandford, Mass., and Betty Lou Shepard of Westfeild, Mass., and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Lamarr Mooneyham and the Rev. Cleo Hundley officiating. Military honors will be performed by the American Legion Post #1097.
The family will receive friends from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence.
Verna Price
DANVILLE, Va. - Verna Haraway Price, 97, formerly of 238 Rocklawn Ave., Apt. 1A, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born May 12, 1903, in Danville, she was a daughter of Samuel Mason Haraway and Libby Herndon Hunt.
She was married
to George Harvey Price, who predeceased her. She lived in Danville and was an active member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church until her health failed. She was an assistant Sunday School teacher and spent more than 10 years with the Ladies Bible Class. She was a housewife.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin C. Price of Warsaw and Ronnie D. Price of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by two sons, Horace J. Price and Franklin D. Price; one daughter, Cathy P. Weisenberg; four brothers, Alfred W. Haraway, Junnie F. Haraway, Mason Haraway and Marvin D. Haraway and one sister, Florene H. Evans.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Terry, the Rev. Joe Beck and the Rev. Allen Dawson officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

William Tarpley
CHATHAM, Va. - William Eare Tarpley, 84, of 804 Concord Rd., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Piney Forest Health Center.
Born June 26, 1916, in Pittsylvania Co., he was the son of Marcellous Breedlove and Cora Tarpley.
He was a saw mill laborer and a member of Tarpley Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include eight daughters, Martha T. Waller of Dry Fork, Tiny Williams of Boston, Mass., Ruby T. Riley of Dorchester, Mass., Barbara Harper and Della Millner of Danville, Sylvia Crawley of Philadelphia, Pa., Joan T. Robinson of Chatham, and Romina Couthrie of Durham, N.C.; one son, Floyd Breedlove of Danville; and five sisters, Dellie Brown of Buffalo, N.Y., Mattie Cabell, Mary White, Bendie Hall, and Hope Breedlove, all of Danville.
A funeral will be held 4 p.m. Thursday at Tarpley Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Devins officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 1357 Sportsman Road, Dry Fork.

Jimmie Wells
DANVILLE, Va. - Jimmie Norman Wells, 61, of 2140 Spencer St. died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Danville Regional MEdical Center.
Born May 29, 1939, in Henry County, he was a son of Jim Wells and Cora Wyatt Wells, who survives.
He lived his life in the Danville area where he was employed with Southside Manufacturing Company as a cabinet builder prior to retirement. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother, survivors include one son, Dwayne Norman Wells of Danville; one daughter, Nancy Carol Wells of Danville; one sister, Margaret W. Hall of Martinsville, and one grandchild.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Bennie Poovey officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and other times at the residence of a sister, Margaret W. Hall, 2022 Spruce St., Martinsville.
Mattie Chandler
CRYSTAL HILL, Va. - Mattie Chandler, 80, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Berry Hill Nursing Home in South Boston.
Born April 8, 1921, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Gertrude Williams and James Hundley.
Survivors include 11 nieces and three nephews.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Crawford, Garrett and Burton Funeral Home with Elder Branford Edmonds officiating. Interment
will follow at Crystal Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
Viewing will be held 3-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Hattie Eanes
DANVILLE, Va. - Hattie Brizendine Eanes, 71, of 157 Ireson St., died Tuesday evening, Oct. 2, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. after 12 years of declining health and five days in the hospital.
Born July 30, 1930, in Madison Heights, she was the daughter of James Brizendine and Gracie Miller Brizendine.
She was married
May 2, 1953, to Buford Davis Eanes, who survives. She was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg and sepnt most of her life in Danville, where she worked for C&P Telephone Company as an operator for 31 years prior to her retirement at the age of 62. She was a member of Ferry Road Friends Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include one daughter, Dianne Eanes Stone of Danville; one son, Ray Davis Eanes of Ringgold; three sisters, Eula Brizendine, Mattie Brizendine and Annie Carter, all of Lynchburg; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and two step-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by two brothers, one sister and one grandchild.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. W.L. Wade officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Madeline Huffman
GRETNA, Va. - Madeline Hines Huffman, 85, of 421 Dewberry Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Oct. 6, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Henry Arthur Hines and Molly Elizabeth Johnson Hines.
She was married
to Grayson Huffman Sr., who predeceased her. She was a member of West End Church of Christ, a member of the Gretna Home Demonstration Club, Motley Senior Citizens Friendship Club, the West End Ladies Auxiliary and West End Church of Christ Choir. She was a former employee of Klopman.
Survivors include one son, W.G. “Buddy” Huffman Jr. of Gretna; three daughters, Mona Ferguson of Madison Heights, Nancy Shannon of Lynchburg and Rhonda Milam of Gretna; one sister, Thelma McBride of Gretna; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by two brothers, Jesse Hines and Emmitt Hines and two sisters, Gladys Dalton and Iva Shelton.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at West End Church of Christ with Randy Parker, Minister, officiating. Interment
will follow at Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
