DANVILLe, Va. - Trouge Allen Jones, 44, of 335 Audobon Drive, Apt. 24 B died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 23, 1956, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Trouge Alton Jones and Lucille Womack Jones.
He was employed in construction.
Survivors include two sisters, Emma Sue Womack and Mable Early of Danville; one stepson, Robert Boyer of Philadelphia and one stepdaughter, Bonita Boyer of Philadelphia.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. London Walker officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of a sister, Emma Sue Womack, 1305 Myrtle Ave., Danville.

Leo McMahon Sr.
PAMPA, Texas - Leo H. “Slim” McMahon Sr., 90, died Jan. 4, 2001, at Amarillo.
He was born Feb. 20, 1910, in Anita, Iowa.
He was married
to Selma Michealson, who predeceased him in 1988. He lived in Massena, Iowa most of his life and had been a resident of Pampa since 1978, moving from Garden City, Kan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II where he recived the Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Terry Woodward, Rose Keys and Christine Stephenson, all of Pampa and Mary Cruz of Dodge City, Kan. and Kathy McMillan of Garden City, Kan.; two sons, Leo McMahon Jr. of Amarillo and Stephen Michael McMahon of Garden City, Kan.; one brother, Lelan McMahon of Danville, Va.; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A vigil service will be held 7 p.m. Sunday at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, and funeral mass will be held 4 p.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Francisco Perez officiating.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Atlantic cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa with Msgr. Lawrence Beeson officiating.

James Nichols Jr.
SAXE, Va. - James Nathaniel Nichols Jr., 73, of 5219 Clover Road died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Nov. 16, 1927, in Halifax County, he was a son of James N. Nichols Sr. and Ella Conner Nichols.
He was married
to Thelma Hazelwood Nichols, who survives. He was a member of Clover Baptist Church and was a vetran of the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his wife of Saxe, survivors include three sons, James Nichols III and Kenneth Nichols of Saxe and Ralph Nichols of Clover; three daughters, Nancy Nichols, Carol Culley and Sharon Bass, all of Saxe; nine grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and one great-grandson.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Clover cemetery with the Rev. H.V. Conner and the Rev. Tim Golding officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Claude “Buddy” Pritchett
WHITMELL, Va. - Claude A. “Buddy” Pritchett, 85, of 1977 Whitmell School Rd., died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001 at Riverside Healthcare Center.
Born Dec. 16, 1915, in Whitmell, he was a son of Claude A. Pritchett Jr. and Elizabeth Cobbs Pritchett.
He was married
to Martha M. Pritchett, who survives.
He was a graduate of V.M.I. in 1937. He served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 1941 to Jan. 1946. He was a member of the First Calvary which was among the first troops to enter Japan at the end of World War II. He retired from the British American Tobacco Company in 1975, he was a General Manager of tobacco production plants in Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico. He was a member of Whitmell United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by two sons, Claude A. Pritchett IV of Covington, La. and John Hill Pritchett II of Westport, Conn; one daughter, Martha P. Powell of Selinsgrove, Pa.; one sister, Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond, and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one sister, Patsy Ring.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Whitmell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Warrick officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Townes Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.

David Lawson Torrence Sr.
WAVERLY, Va. - David Lawson Torrence, Sr., 68, a resident of Norris Avenue, Waverly, VA died Thursday, January 4, 2001 at Henrico Doctor’s Hospital, after an extended illness.
He was born on May 24, 1932 in Davidson, NC, the son of the late Harry Grady Torrence and Lula Lee Torrence. A graduate of North Carolina State University and veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he had served as a loyal and dedicated forester with Gray Lumber Company for approximately 30 years. He was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church, the Waverly Rotary Club, the Waverly Ruritan Club and various other forestry-related organizations.
He is survived by a son, David Lawson Torrence, Jr. of Windson, VA; two daughters, Patrice Elizabeth Konrad of Pittsburg, PA and Captain Dianne Torrence Melinski of San Antonio, TX; two step sons, Roger Winn Bishop of Chatham, VA and Robert William Bishop of Durham, NC; two sisters, Annie Lou Torrence of Charlotte, NC and Ellen Elgin of Stuart, VA; eight grandchildren, Paul, Katie, Alison, Walter and David Konrad, Caleb and Abram Torrence and Matthew Helinski; five step-grandchildren. He was a husband of the late Marjorie Bishop Torrence.
A funeral service will be held in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield at 2:00 PM Monday, January 8, 2001 by the Rev. Jim Smith. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 7:00-8:30 PM. An Interment

Mabel Grant Butler
DANVILLE, Va. - Mabel Grant Butler, 93, of 706 Westview Drive died Friday, January 5, 2001 at her residence after several years of declining health.
Born October 14, 1907, in Amherst County, she was the daughter of Abner Walker Grant and Minnie Pearl Cash Grant.
She was married
to Alman Butler, who predeceased her in 1991. Mrs. Butler had lived most of her life in the Alexandria area, then lived in Burlington, N.C. for 14 years, prior to moving to Danville in 1991. She was a retired telephone operator with Bell-Atlantic Telephone Company. Mrs. Butler was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include nieces and nephews: Margaret G. and Dallas Burnette of the home, Josephine G. Brande of Danville, Louise G. Moore of Danville, Gerladine G. Moore of Pelham NC, Nancie G. Young of Pelham, NC, Edward Dillard Grant of Danville, A. Frank Grant of Ringgold, Reginal W. Grant of Providence, NC, Clyde Lipscomb of Bedford and Edna Ganim.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Reverend Freddie J. Vicks officiating.
Interment will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pine Hill cemetery, Burlington, N.C.

Dollie Coleman
Gretna, Va. - Dollie L. Coleman, 88, of 9641 Rockford School Rd, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 at Gretna Health Care.
Born Aug. 11, 1912 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of John Lewis and Victoria Edwards James.
She was married
to Harry Coleman, who predeceased her.
She was a homemaker and a member of Ridgeway United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Louis Coleman of West Middlesex, Pa., Raymond L. Coleman of Philadelphia, Pa., Harvey J. Coleman of Dunwiddie, Ga. and Joseph W. Coleman of Beavercreek, Ohio; two sisters, Evelyn Dearing of Gretna and Mrs. Willie Linthicum of Washington D.C.; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by one son, Richard L. Coleman, five brothers, Morris James Sr., Raleigh L. James, John James, Benjamin James and Dock James, and three sisters, Betty Finley, Edmonia Berger and Annie Carter.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jack Wilson officiating. Interment
will follow in the former Jasper United Methodist Church cemetery.

Clarence Davis
HAMPTON, Va. - Clarence W. Davis, 86, of 116 Glascow Way, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001 at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News.
Born July 30, 1914 in Danville, he was a son of Walter and Mary Emmma Davis.
He was married
to Bessie Womack Davis, who predeceased him.
He was a devoted member of First Baptist Missionary Church throughout his life. He was a longtime resident of Danville, but his last four years were spent in Hampton.
Survivors include one son, George W. Davis of Hampton; one sister, Gracie Daniels of Danville; three brothers, James Davis, Jordan Davis and Clyde Davis, all of Washington, D.C., and one grandson.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Missionary Church with the Rev. James Murrell and the Rev. S.E. Hayward III officiating. Interment
will follow in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church.

Jessie Hairston
DANVILLE, Va. - Jessie James Hairston, 59, of 706 Vandola Rd., died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001 at Duke University Medical Center.
Born May 28, 1942 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Jessie and Willow Mae Patterson Hairston.
He was employed as a meat cutter with Keister’s Supermarket and was also a farmer.
Survivors include six sisters, Jean Robertson, Evelyn Luck and Doris Totten, all of Danville, Ann Hairston and Mary H. Hairston, both of Cascade, and Lucy Coles of Axton.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. John Tinsley officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, Jean Robertson, 220 Roberts St.

Philomena Kadunc
DANVILLE, Va. - Philomena Virginia LaRiccia Kadunc, 84, of 2526 North Main St., died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after four years of declining health.
Born Sept. 29, 1916 in Bedford, Ohio, she was a daughter of Michael and Rosa Ricelli LaRiccia.
She was married
to William A. Bull, who predeceased her in 1942, and Frank G. Kadunc, who predeceased her in 1971.
She lived most of her life in Ohio, and was a resident of Danville for the past two and a half years. She was a member of Abundant Life Tabernacle. She retired in 1981 from Picker International.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna K. Rossman of Danville; one son, William A. Kadunc of Willowick, Ohio; two sisters, Rose Bocci of Sacramento, Calif. and Manda Davis of Madison, Ohio; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Domonic LaRiccia and Frank LaRiccia, and two sisters, Carmella Nietert and Clara Eddy.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Micki Mumford officiating. Interment
will be at Calvary cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio.
The family will receive friends at 120 Old Piney Forest Rd., Lot 22.
