Virginia Downey
BUFFALO JUNCTION, Va. - Virginia Sue Tysinger Downey, 84, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at her residence.
Born Feb. 18, 1916, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Luther Tysinger and Betty Wilkins Tysinger.
She was married
to Thomas Goodwin Downey Sr., who predeceased her. She was a member of Aarons Creek Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty D. Leap of Richmond; one son, Tommy Downey of Buffalo Junction; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Aarons Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Virgilina, with the Rev. Bill McEntire officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

J. Sterling Green Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - James Sterling Green Sr., 97, of 1430 Halifax Road died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at his residence after six months of declining health.
Born March 18, 1903, in Henry County, he was a son of Joseph A. Green and Sally Wilson Green.
On Dec. 22, 1923, he was married
to Martha Hall Green, who predeceased him August 26, 2000. He lived his entire life in the Danville area and was retired from Dan River Mills. He was a member of the Glenwood Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon.
Survivors include one son, J. Sterling Green Jr. of the residence and three daughters, Kitty G. Grant and Katherine G. Compton, both of Greensboro, N.C. and Barbara G. Masterson of Melborne, Fla.; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. He was the last survivor of his generation.
A graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Carl Burger officiating.

Sallie Haymore
DANVILLE, Va. - Sallie Shelton Haymore, 95, formerly of 61 Morris Ave. died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home where she had been a resident since March 1995.
Born July 3, 1905, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Ralph Dodd Shelton and Annie Mitchell Shelton.
She was married
to the Rev. Lemmie S. Haymore, who predeceased her Nov. 30, 1995. She spent most of her life in Danville where she was a homemaker and member of Riveroak Church of God.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Haymore Shelton and Mae Haymore Munford, both of Danville; one brother, Bennett Shelton of Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, Eunice Stowe of Dry Fork; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by four sons, Dennis H. Haymore, Raymond D. Haymore, David O. Haymore and Jimmy Wayne Haymore; two brothers, Cosby Shelton and Beverly Shelton; two sisters, Lessie Stowe and Reba Carter and two grandsons.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riveroak Church of God with the Rev. Jesse Booth and the Rev. John Meadows officiating. Interment
will follow at Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery, Dry Fork.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Phyllis Shelton, 231 Searcy Street.
Elnora Oliver
DANVILLE, Va. - Elnora Williams Oliver, 90, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Jacksonville, N.C.
Born Aug. 12, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Arthur and Belle Standfield.
She was married
to John ‘Vap’ Oliver, who predeceased her. She was a member of the Apostolic Faith Temple, where she was a member of the choir.
Survivors include two sons, Jonathan Oliver of Jacksonville, N.C. and Roland Staples of Ringgold; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Apostolic Faith Temple with Suffrage Bishop W.A. Watkins officiating. Interment
will follow at Oak Hill cemetery.

Mary Lou Wilson
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Lou Wilson, 78, of 286 Guildford Street died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 13, 1922, in Danville, she was a daughter of John Anderson and Rowena Smith Anderson.
She was married
to Odell Wilson, who survives.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Connie Thompson and Era Wilson of Danville and Wanda Bennett of Lynchburg; three sisters, Mamie Nelson, Louis Fuller and Mary Helen Waddell, all of Danville and four brothers, the Rev. John Anderson, the Rev. Henry Anderson and Dennis Anderson, all of Danville and Charles Anderson of Greensboro, N.C.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Tinsley officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Margaret Pannell Davis
WYTHEVILLE, Va. - Margaret Pannell Davis, age 70, of Wytheville, VA, died Monday, January 15, 2001 in the Birdmont Health Care Center. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Otis Clyde and Marie Simmerman Pannell. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Davis, a brother, Reed Pannell and a sister, Lula Halsey.
She is survived by a sister, Margaret Albright of Fayetteville, AK; 2 brothers & sisters-in-law, Clayton & Magalene Pannell of Etowah, TN, Lorris & Judy Pannell of Winston-Salem, NC; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Betty Pannell of Leesburg, VA, Thelma Price of Roanoke, VA; brothers-in-law, James Halsey of Oak Ridge, TN, Hazel & Jim Henderson of Rocky Mount, VA, Marie & Charles Davis of Collinsville, VA, Evelyn & Harry Davis of Vinton, VA; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 18, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Donald E. Stansell officiating. Interment
will follow in the West End cemetery.

Anice Dodson
DANVILLE, Va. - Anice Clarke Adams Dodson, 96, of 1111 Main street, formerly of 145 Hawthorne Drive died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 29, 1904, in Swansonville, she was the daughter of Samuel Vester Adams and Mary Ellen Tarpley Adams.
On July 19, 1926, she was married
to Cephas Willard Dodson, who predeceased her Feb. 12, 1968.
She was educated in county schools, Harrisonburg State Teachers College and the Teachers College of Columbia University.
She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church where she served as a trustee and member of the Official Board for many years and was an active member of the United Methodist Women.
She was also a charter member of the Forest Hills Garden Club and the Wednesday Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Randall of Atlanta and Anne Dodson Williams of Danville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Main Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Milstead and the Rev. Dana Hunt officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Townes Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Anne Dodson Williams, 435 Linden Place.

Inez Moore
RINGGOLD, Va. - Inez Todd Moore, 70, of 3559 South Boston Hwy. died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three years of declining health and a two-day stay in the hospital.
Born May 13, 1930, in Danville, she was the daughter of Noah Davis Todd and Eva Louise Murphy.
She was married
to Willie Lee Moore, who survives, on March 25, 1949.
She was a member of Glenn Hill Baptist Church.
She lived in the Glenwood community of Pittsylvania County and had been a resident of Ringgold since 1978.
She retired from Belk-Leggett Department Store in 1992 after 35 years of employment.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Eva Louise M. Willis of Dry Fork and Cynthia Ann M. Mayo of Gautier, Miss.; one sister, Estelle T. Johnson of Danville; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. J.B. Baldridge, the Rev. Donald Mahan and the Rev. Joey Yeatts officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Kathryne Reeves
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Kathryne June Weatherford Reeves, 72, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2001.
She was born June 8, 1928.
She was married
to Daniel Edward "Ned" Reeves, who survives.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Dianne Holt Reeves of Richmond and one sister, Evelyn Weatherford Hastings of Richmond.
A funeral will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Powell Funeral Home. Interment
will follow at Asbury United Methodist Church cemetery.

Thomas Law Jr.
MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Thomas Stamps "T.S." Law Jr., 80, of 768 King's Way Road died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born May 12, 1920, in Henry County, he was a son of Thomas Stamps Law Sr. and Anna Eliza Hairfield Law.
He was married
to Bernice Finney Law, who survives.
He graduated from Axton High School in 1939 and attended Evansville Business School, Indiana.
He was a field director for Henry County's U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and was later promoted to become director of the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service.
He retired from A.S.C.S. in May 1980.
He lived in Axton all his life and served as secretary for the Axton Vol. Fire Dept. from 1965-1968 and as assistant chief from 1968-1972.
He was appointed "Honorary Chief" and retired from active duty in 1991.
He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church for 63 years.
He served as church trustee, deacon on alternate years, Sunday school teacher and assistant of the Adult Men's Class since 1965, Sunday school superintendent from 1955 to 1958, training union director, Royal Ambassador's leader and counselor, chairman of the pulpit committee, president of the Baptist Men, and many other positions.
He entered King's Grant Retirement Community in 1993.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Anna Sue Law Collins of Richmond and Mary Beth Law Glass of Glen Allen; two sons, Thomas Stamps Law III of Martinsville and James Robert Law of Disputanta; two brothers, Joseph M. Law of Church Road and William David Law of Staunton; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one sister, Sallie L. Martin and one brother, Donald Law.
A funeral will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Darley and the Rev. Suzanne Schulz Martin officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held one hour prior to service at the church.
