Frances Collins
DANVILLE, Va. - Frances Talbott Collins, 85, of 25 Oak Ridge Ave. died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at her residence.
Born July 27, 1915, in Gretna, she was the daughter of Raleigh Talbott and Gertrude Snead Talbott.
She was married
to Harvey R. Collins, who predeceased her. She was a graduate of Gretna High School and spent most of her life in Danville where she worked for Dan River Inc. and was a member of Lighthouse Bible Church on Woodberry Ave.
Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia Blackwell of the residence and Patricia Craighead of Verona; one son, Robert E. Sahms of Lawrenceville; one brother, Robert Talbott of Danville; one half sister, Kate Page Kirks of Petersburg; four half brothers, Thomas Wayne Talbott of Farmville, James Hunter Talbott of Staunton, William Reid Talbott of Powhatan and Bernard Talbott of Petersburg; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. W. L. Wade and the Rev. Paul Blackwell officiating. Interment
will follow at Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Leonard Collins
DANVILLE, Va. - Leonard G. “Jack” Collins, 65, of 621 Timberlake Drive died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born March 30, 1935, in Caswell County, N.C., he was a son of William Collins and Lizzie Stanley Collins.
In 1975, he was married
to Carolyn Long Collins, who survives. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was owner and operator of South Main Produce.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Michelle L. Collins and Ashlyn N. Collins, both of Danville; one son, Leonard G. Collins II of Danville and one sister, Ivenia C. Barbour of Danville.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Gary Milstead officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Townes Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
The family suggests that memorials be sent to the Danville Life Saving Crew.
Texie Lepley
DANVILLE, Va. - Texie Powell Lepley, 87, of 218 Halifax Street died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born Nov. 2, 1913, in Finley, N.C., she was the daughter of John Thomas Powell and Josephine Curtis Powell.
She was married
to William Carl Lepley, who predeceased her August 12, 1979. She spent most of her life in Danville and was retired from Dan River Inc. She was a member of The Tabernacle.
Survivors include three sons, Tyree Pruitt of Bellaire, Md., Danny Martin Pruitt of Baltimore, Md. and Dwight Ganer Lepley of Danville; two daughters, Anna Pruitt Rigney and Evelyn Mae Lepley Walker, both of Danville; one brother, Odell Powell of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Trivlie Towery of Warrenton; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at The Tabernacle with the Rev. Lamarr Mooneyham officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery.

Delores Robertson
CHATHAM, Va. -- Delores Jean Dodson Robertson, 59, of 1720 Banister Road died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 10, 1941, in Macon, Ga., she was the daughter of Earnest Dodson and Gracie Lyle Dodson King.
She was married
to Sammy Robertson, who survives. She was a member of Marion Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons, Claude Mazza of Chatham and Anthony Mazza of Gainsville, Fla.; two stepsons, Danny Robertson and Clifton Robertson, both of Concord, N.C.; one sister, Edith Janes of Walnut, Miss.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Burial Park with the Rev. Gerald K. Grubb officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Hazel Warren
DANVILLE, Va. - Hazel Hawker Warren, 94, of 164 Canterbury Road died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Stratford Health Care Center.
Born August 24, 1906, in Danville, she was the daughter of Cabell C. Haker and Nannie Kate Shorter Hawker.
She was first married
to Harry Lee Keeton, who predeceased her in 1940, and was later married
to Walter Clarence Warren, who predeceased her in 1978. She lived all her life in Danville and was a member of College Park Baptist Church. She was the last surviving member of her generation.
Survivors include two sons, Harry M. Keeton of Danville and Richard M. Keeton of Lake Lure, N.C.; one daughter, Nancy K. Smith of Danville; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James Hewitt officating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Townes Funeral Home.
Carroll White
SUTHERLIN, Va. - Jesse Carroll White Sr., 55, of 2704 Kerns Church Road died suddenly Saturday, January 20, 2001, at his business on the South Boston Hwy.
Born March 4, 1945, in Danville, he was a son of Jesse Willard White, who survives, and the late Alease Belcher White.
On July 13, 1963, he was married
to Linda Pritchett White, who survives.
Mr. White had lived all of his life in the Sutherlin Community of Pittsylvania County and was educated in the county school system. He was founder and operator of Whites Construction Company and of the Methodist faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence and father of Sutherlin, survivors include three sons, Jesse Willard White, Jesse Carroll (J.C.) White Jr. and Jamerson Willard White, all of Sutherlin; three sisters, Linda W. Barley of Danville, Betty W. Guerrant of Keeling and Kitty W. Stevens of Sutherlin; one brother, George Randall White of Sutherlin and three grandsons, John Michael White, Austin Lee White & Colby Jamerson White.
He was predeceased by one brother, John Robert White.
A funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Dale Proctor and the Rev. Joe Bradford officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Charles Billings
DANVILLE, Va. - Charles Harrison Billings, 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born June 19, 1922, in Fancy Gap, he was a son of Tyra Billings and Ella May Sexton Billings.
On April 10, 1964, he was married
to Lucille Boyte Billings, who predeceased him May 10, 1998. He lived in Danville and Grayson County. He was a HVAC supervisor for Dan River Mills at his retirement. He was a member of Woodberry Hills Baptist Church and was a former member of Pleasent Grove Baptist Church, Fancy Gap. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and served in World War II.
Survivors include three stepchildren, Maxine S. Tolley and Sue S. Sizemore, both of Danville and Bobby L. Short of Dry Fork; one brother, Bill Billings of Independence; two sisters, Geraldine B. Pickral and Helen B. Payne, both of Danville; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one son, Glenn Short.
A funeral was held Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in Independence.
Anthony Paul Brooks
GOODVIEW, Va. - Anthony Paul Brooks, 28, of Goodview, died Thursday, January 18, 2001. He was born in Danville, Virginia on July 20, 1972, the son of Paul Nathan Brooks and Cynthia Pressley Astin, who survive him. He was a loving father with a compassionate heart. He will be sadly missed. Surviving are his beloved partner, Julie Newcomb, their children, Ashley Nicole Brooks and James Anthony Brooks; brother, Scott Brooks, Danville; grandmothers, Helen Brooks, Danville and Thelma Scarce, Dry Fork; stepfather, Pete Astin, Danville; stepmother, Mardi Belfiore, Roanoke; and numerous aunts, uncles, friends, and relatives by marriage. May Burnett
DANVILLE, Va. - Virginia May Burnett, 83, of 1152 Franklin Turnpike died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one day of declining health.
Born October 16, 1917, she was the daughter of Charles Vaden Haynes and Lottie May Davis Haynes.
Mrs. Burnett had resided in Danville most of her life. She was of the Baptist Faith. Mrs. Burnett was employed by Dan River Mills, Inc. retiring in 1982.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Burnett of Charlotte, N.C. and four sisters, Irene Murphy of Charlotte, N.C., Vivian Durham of Pelham, N.C. and Nancy Henderson and Katherine Ferguson, both of Danville.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Thelma Haynes Porter and Garland Haynes Dodson and one brother, Charles V. Haynes, Jr.
A graveside funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at Mountain View cemetery with the Reverend Dr. Thomas Evans officiating.

Irene Cole
VIRGILINA, Va. - Irene Talley Cole, 82, of 3184 North Fork Church Road died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Duke Medical Center.
Born Oct. 3, 1918, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Robert Talley and Victoria Cole Talley.
She was married
to Ramon Cole, who predeceased her. She was a homemaker and member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Owen of Virgilina and Linda Saunders of Roxboro, N.C.; one son, Doug Cole of South Boston; one sister, Frances Puckett of Oxford, N.C.; four brothers, Elmo Talley of Henderson, N.C., Oneal Talley of Virgilina, Lawrence Talley of Alton and Melvin Talley of South Boston; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one sister, Ruth Cole and two granddaughters.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Davidson and the Rev. Fred Lowery officiating. Interment
