DANVILLE, Va. - Peggy Ann Carr Gunnell, 72, of 116 Banner Street, died Sunday, January 28, 2001 in her home after two months of declining health.
Born December 14, 1928, in Roanoke, Va., she was the daughter of Arney B. Carr and Minnie G. Carr
She was married
to Carroll Edward Gunnell on November 30, 1947. She was of the protestant faith. She lived most of her life in Danville Va. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Steven H. Gunnell, Carroll Edward “Eddie” Gunnell, Jr. and wife Sharon Gunnell, and Roger B. Gunnell, all of Danville; one sister Betty C. Kirby of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Harry B. Carr, of Richmond, Va.; 4 grandchildren, Delia Bryan, Gregory Gunnell, Brandon A. Powell, all of Danville, and Leslie Cox, of Greensboro, N.C.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret and Virginia.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence of a son, Eddie Gunnell, Jr., 1049 Vicar Road, Danville Va.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Danville Humane Society or the Danville Heart Association-Danville Division, 4504 Starkey Road SW, Roanoke, Virginia.
Earl Gwynn
DANVILLE, Va. - Earl Forest Gwynn, 73, of 15 Doolittle Street died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after 15 years of declining health and a one-week stay at the hospital.
Born March 20, 1927, in Patrick County, he was a son of Daniel Kelly Gwynn and Rosa Marshall Gwynn.
He was married
to Frances Sizer Gwynn, who survives. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He spent most of his life in Danville where he worked in the maintenance department at Dan River Inc. for 35 years before leaving on disability. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors in addition to his wife of the residence include one daughter, Vickie Gwynn Long of Ruffin, N.C.; one sister, Rhoda Marshall of Ararat; one brother, Lester Gwynn of Danville; one granddaughter, two great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Connie Gwynn Mayhew.
A graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Schoolfield cemetery with the Rev. William Soyars officiating. Military honors will be performed by the American Legion Dan River Post #1097 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Frances Price
DANVILLE, Va. - Frances Hubbard Price, 75, of 123 Shannon Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001.
Born May, 21, 1925, in the Callands Community of Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Raleigh Jefferson Hubbard and Virginia Woodall Hubbard
She was married
to Clifford L. Price Dec. 21, 1946. She lived all of her life in Danville and had worked in the Personnel Department at Dan River Inc. for 25 years. She later worked as office manager in the Danville office of United States Congressman W.C. “Dan” Daniel for 22 years and for Congressman L.F. Payne for one year. She was an active member of the Saint Luke’s United Methodist Church, the Pilot Club, and Kaufman-Brydon Chapter 87 Order of the Eastern Star. She was secretary of the Board of Directors for Roman Eagle Memorial Home and was a member of the Auxillary Board of the Salvation Army.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother, R.J. Hubbard Jr. of Danville.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Saint Luke’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Duncan officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Saint Luke’s United Methodist Church 7-8 p.m. Monday and at other times at the residence.

Lena Fann Shelton
DANVILLE, Va. - Lena Fann Shelton, age 85, of Halifax Road, died Sunday afternoon January 28, 2001, suddenly at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Shelton was born in Pittsylvania County on December 10, 1915, a daughter of the late Ruben Walter Fann and Molly Parsons Fann.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jasper Howard Shelton.
Mrs. Shelton had spent most of her life in the Glenwood and Mountain Hill communities where she was a member of Mt. Hill Holiness Church and attended Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church. She worked for Dan River Inc. for 44 years before retiring in 1977.
Survivors include one son: Jerry Howard Shelton of Blairs and one sister: Lula Fann Terry of Danville, and one Granddaughter: Pamela Sue Shelton Ford of Blairs, and one Grandson: Chrsitopher Scott Farmer of Danville, and two Great Granddaughters: Karibee Amber Walton and Mikayla Paige Walton both of Blairs.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Jerry howard “Little Jerry” Shelton, Jr., and also predeceased by a sister, Ola Fann Matherly.
Jerry’s girlfriend, Ann Farmer of Danville, caregiver and special friend of Mrs. Shelton, also survives.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Highland Burial Park by James Snead and the Rev. Rick Lancaster. The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 P.M., and other times at the residence of her son, Jerry Shelton at 2477 Hunters Lane, Blairs.
Pattie Tuck
VIRGILINA, Va. - Pattie Thomas Tuck, 106, of 4238 Red Bank Road died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at the Woodview.
She was born May 22, 1894, in Halifax County.
She was married
first to Tom Thomas, who predeceased her. She was later married
to Baker Tuck, who also predeceased her. She was a retired homemaker and member of Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle.
Survivors include five daughters, Estelle T. Cox of Virgilina, Carrie T. Spangler of South Boston, Alice T. Talley of Preston, Md., and Gertie T. Pulliam and Elsie T. Thaxton, both of Oxford, N.C.; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by three sons, Tommy Thomas, Johnnie Thomas and Willie Thomas and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Williamson and the Rev. Chad Branch officiating. Interment
will follow at Union Chapel Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive frinds from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Gabrielle Waller
GRETNA, Va. - Gabrielle Renea Cook Waller was born and died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was the daughter of Susan Cook and Randy Waller, who survive.
In addition to her parents, survivors include one brother, Brandon Waller of Martinsville; two sisters, Chante Waller and Mariah Waller, both of Hurt; maternal grandparents, Karen and Jerry Reese of Gretna; maternal grandfather, Woodrow David Cook of Gretna; maternal great-grandmother, Rosalie Dalton of Gretna; paternal grandparents, Alex and Dorothy Waller of Hurt.
A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday at Gretna Burial Park with the Rev. David Rowland officiating.

James Wilson Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - James S. “Pete” Wison Sr., 76, of 510 Rosemary Lane died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 24, 1924, he was the son of William Arthur Wilson and Virgie Pruitt Wilson.
He was married
to Janie McFarling, who survives him. He spent most of his life in Danville where he was employed by the City of Danville Gas Department for 33 years. He was a member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church, American Legion Memorial Post 325 and the Glen Oak Country Club. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army.
Survivors in addition to his wife include one daughter, Jane Wilson Hill; and two sons, James S. “Jimmy” Wilson, and Kenneth B. Wilson, all of Danville.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Swicegood Chapel with the Rev. William C. Blalock officiating. Interment
will be at the Highland Burial Park.

Presley William Adams
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Presley William Adams, 87, of Nathalie, died Monday, January 29 at Halafax Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 4, 1913 in Halifax County.
He was married
to Audry Adams of Nathalie, who survives.
Survivors include one daughter, Eloise Adams of Nathalie; seven sons, Illustrious Adams of Albany, N.Y., William Adams, Roger Adams and Larry Adams, all of Alexandria, Preston Adams of Newport News, Earl Adams and Curtis Adams of Nathalie; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; two sisters, Vernice Williams of White Plains, N.Y., and Annie Lovelace of Halifax; three step-sisters, Zelnora Boone and Erlene Poindexter, of Baltimore, Md., and Extelle Poindexter of Nathalie and one step-brother, William Poindexter of Philadelphia, Pa.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Millstone Baptist Church in Nathalie with the Rev. Chester Spruill officiating.

DANVILLE, Va. - Elaine Hutchens Furr, 70, of 130 Mary Miles Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center after two months of declining health.
Born June 30, 1930, in Rockingham County, N.C., she was the daughter of Posey Hutchens and Nellie Stowe Hutchens.
She was married
to Rodney F. Furr, who predeceased her.
She had spent most of her life in Danville and retired from Dan River Mills Inc.
She was a member of Riverview Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Steven Paige Furr and Michael Scott Furr, both of Danville; two brothers, James Hutchens and Dillard Hutchens, both of Danville; three sisters, Ruby Scearce of Danville, Katie Tate of Reidsville, N.C., and Joann Jackson of Wake Forest, N.C., and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Ernest Hutchens and two sisters, Evelyn Brandon and Mary Shelton.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel, with the Elder O.J. Ray and Rev. Don Harrell officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
