NATHALIE, Va. - Arthur Presley Mills, Jr., 69, of 1150 Beaver Pond Rd., Nathalie, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at Berry Hill Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 25, 1931 in Halifax County, he was the son of Arthur Presley Mills, Sr. and Velma Landrum Mills.
He was married
to Christine Eades Mills, of South Boston, who survives him.
He was a member of Catawba Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 342 Volens.
He was a United States Army veteran.
Survivors include, in addition to his wife, one daughter, Cindy Mills Lloyd; one son-in-law, Donnie Lloyd; one brother, Joe Mills; and one granddaughter, all of Nathalie.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dwight Moore officiating. Interment
will follow at Oak Ridge cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, 1244 Beaver Pond Road, Nathalie, and at other times at the Berry Hill Nursing Home.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Lung Association, 311 South Blvd., Richmond, VA 23221.

Bernice Clark
DRY FORK, Va. - Bernice Farthing Clark, 74, of 13201 Mount Cross Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Born Feb 11, 1926, she was the daughter of Lawrence Austin Farthing and Lottie Mae Brown Farthing.
She was married
to Delbert D. Clark and spent most of her life in Danville. She was retired from the #5 Spin at Dan River Mills. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Vicky C. Overstreet of Keeling, Donna C. Reece of Chatham, Deborah C. Flippen of Danville; one son, Michael D. Clark of Williamsburg; three sisters Gaynell Bateman of Brosville, Vera Bradner of Chatham, Molly Gay of Roanoke Rapids; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Allen Holder officiating. Interment
will follow at the Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times at the residence of Vicky Overstreet, 10073 Old Richmond Road (Route 360).

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Doris Newton Dalton, 64, of 2189 Cherry Hill Church Road, South Boston, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at her home.
Born April 26, 1936, she was the daughter of George Washington Newton and Mabel Campbell Newton.
She was married
Willie Leon "Pat" Dalton, who survives her. She was a textile worker for JPS and was a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church.
Survivors include, in addition to her husband, two daughters, Connie D. Murray of Virgilina, Cheryl D. Roller of Mount Laurel; one son, Jack Daniel of Cary, N.C.; two step-daughters, Vicky Chilton and Patricia Dalton, both of Pelham, N.C.; four sisters, Mary Daniel of Richmond, Barbara Fanelli of Cary, N.C., Kay Blanks and Sylvia Morris, both of South Boston; one brother, Billy Newton of Durham, N.C.; four grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one brother, Carl H. Newton, Sr.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Melvin Bradshaw officiating.

DANVILLE, Va. - Eva Mae Barnes Dunston, 85, of 308 S. Main St., Danville, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at the residence.
Born Jan. 30, 1916 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of Walter Barnes and Helena Jennings Barnes.
She was married
to Alphonso W. Dunston, who predeceased her. She was a teacher for the Danville City School System until her retirement. She attended the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany.
Survivors include one daughter, Millie Dunston of the residence.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany with Father James Mathieson officiating. Interment
will follow at Oak Hill cemetery and viewing will be held 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home.

DANVILLE, Va. - Clarence Arthur Price, 60, of 193 Sunset Drive, Danville, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center, after declining health.
Born September 12, 1940 in Pelham, N.C., he was the son of Wilbur and Cornelia Toney Price.
He was married
to Shirlie E. Price, who survives.
He was employed by Dan River Inc.
Survivors include, in addition to his wife, two daughters, Tanya Price of Sacramento, Calif., Deborah Ingram of Pelham, N.C.; two sons, Kendall Emerson of Danville, Daniel Flippen of Asbury Park, N.J.; two sisters, Geneva Price Crisp of Pittsburg, Penn., Sheila Hampton of Pelham, N.C.; one brother, Wilbert Rogers Price of Pelham, N.C.; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

DANVILLE, Va. - Thelma Ferguson Spencer, 85, of 416 Audubon Drive, Apt. 2, Danville, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2001, at the residence after one year of declining health.
Born Aug. 11, 1915 in Penhook, she was the daughter of William Bill Ferguson and Eliza Ann Lane Ferguson.
She was married
to Gilford Lewis Maxie and Melvin Howard Spencer, both predeceased her. She lived her life in Martinsville and Tocoma Park, Md., before moving to Danville. She was retired from Pannell Knitting Company where she worked in the sewing department. She was of the baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Herman R. Maxie, Sr. of Danville.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husbands and parents, one son, Gilford Glennwood Maxie.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with Pastor Ed Komorowski officiating. Interment
will follow at Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville.

Edward Cain
DANVILLE, Va. - Edward Franklin Cain, age 64, died unexpectedly Thursday morning February 1, 2001 at his residence, 145 Shady Lane.
Mr. Cain was born in Danville on June 24, 1936, a son of the late Neal Cain and Lillian Maude Davis Cain.
He was married
to Elsie Cook Cain who died in 1994.
Mr. Cain had made his home in Danville all of his life where he worked for Rush Wholesale Company for a number of years before retiring, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his cherished friend, Nancy Ann Denny of Danville; and six daughters, Cynthia Melton of Hurdle Mills, North Carolina, and Cathy Cieslak of Louisville, Kentucky, and Kelly Peterson of Keeling, and Christy Cain of Chilhowie, and Carla Perkins of Gretna, and Carter Ray Tarwater of Mt. Dora, Florida; and one sister, Lois Cox of Ruffin, North Carolina and nine grandchildren also survive.
The memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Daryl Joyce. The interment will be at a later date at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the residence, 145 Shady Lane in Westover Hills.

JAMAICA QUEENS, N.Y. - Ella Gloster, 82, of 179-41 Zoller Road, Jamaica Queens, N.Y., died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 at the Flushing Hospital in Queens.
Born Nov. 16, 1918, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of James Lindsey and Josephine Badgett Lindsey.
She was married
to William Gloster, who survives.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one sister, Gertrude Fallen of Danville, Va.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Bethel Baptist Church, Danville, Va., with the Rev. Thomas Johnson officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.
