DANVILLE, Va. - Nannie Wilson McMillon, 86, of 2607 Tom Fork Road, Ringgold, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center after one week of declining health.
Born May 30, 1914, she was the daughter of George Wilson and Nannie Eanes Wilson.
She married
Robert "Peck" McMillon, who predeceased her in 1988. She lived in Pittsylvania County all her life and was a charter member of Williamson Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Curtis A. McMillon of Ringgold; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by two daughters, Mildred Giles and Betty Ann Dix; one son, John McMillon; two sisters, Lucille Burnett and Ollie Mae Mills; four brothers, Johnny Wilson, William Wilson, George Wilson, and Smith Wilson.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Neil McCarter officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Tate, 2615 Tom Fork Road, Ringgold.

Thelma Spencer
DANVILLE, Va. - Thelma Ferguson Spencer, 85, of 416 Audubon Drive, Apt. 2, Danville, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2001, at the residence after one year of declining health.
Born Aug. 11, 1915 in Penhook, she was the daughter of William Bill Ferguson and Eliza Ann Lane Ferguson.
She was married
to Gilford Lewis Maxie and Melvin Howard Spencer, both predeceased her. She lived her life in Martinsville and Tocoma Park, Md., before moving to Danville. She was retired from Pannell Knitting Company where she worked in the sewing department. She was of the baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Herman R. Maxie Sr. of Danville.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husbands and parents, one son, Gilford Glennwood Maxie.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with Pastor Ed Komorowski officiating. Interment
will follow at Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times at the residence of her son, Herman R. Maxie, Sr., 685 Gemstone Lane, Danville.

Catherine Carter
DANVILLE, Va. - Catherine Bennett Carter, 92, of The Stratford House, 1111 Main Street, Danville, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 18, 1908 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Roy Bennett and Tinie Graves Bennett.
She was married
to Garland Edward Carter who predeceased her Feb. 11, 1998. She attended William and Mary College and was a member of the Wednesday Club, D.A.R., and Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Carter White of Montgomery, Ala.; two granddaughters, Cathy White Grogan of Danville and Julie W. Hirschgberg of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Kelly N. Grogan of Roanoke, Tommy Grogan of Danville and Eric A. Hirschberg of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and one sister, Martha Lee Blalock of Hampton.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jonathan Bennett officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Cathy White Grogan, 142 Newbury Way, Danville.

Betty Durham
DANVILLE, Va. - Betty Walker Farmer Durham, 91, formerly of 456 Cedarbrook Drive, Danville, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001 at Piney Forest Health Care Center after 18 months of declining health in the hospital.
Born April 24, 1909 in Halifax, she was the daughter of Jim Walker and Minnie Walker.
She was married
to Tap Farmer and Aubra Durham, both of whom predeceased her. She lived in Pittsylvania County before moving to Danville and was a member of Forest Lawn Baptist Church. She worked as a seamstress for Southern Mills before her retirement.
Survivors include three daughters, Rosa Mae F. Tate, Paulette F. Sinclair, and Betty F. Allgood, all of Danville; one sister, Minnie W. Reed of Halifax; eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husbands and parents, by three sons, Richard Farmer, Billy Farmer, and Jack Farmer; two stepsons, Kenny Durham and Melvin Durham, both of Danville and one stepdaughter, Marie Fitzgerald of Danville.
The funeral will take place 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Daryl S. Joyce officiating. An interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

CHATHAM, Va. - Lena Kate Jones Goggins, 70, of 2496 North Flint Hill Road, Chatham, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001 at the residence.
Born May 29, 1930 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Katie Lee Jones.
She was employed by the Hampco Knitting Mill in Chatham and was a member of the New Life Apostolic Holiness Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice G. Moore of Chatham; four sons, Jerry Goggins of Chatham, Benjamin Goggins of Danville, Robert Goggins of Bland, Steve Goggins of Marietta, Ga.; one sister, Helen Akers of Norfolk; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Life Apostolic Holiness Church with Elder Charlie Witcher officiating. Interment
will follow at Mt. Zion Way of the Cross Temple Church in Callands.

Esther Moore
DANVILLE, Va. - Esther Beck Moore, age 80, of 443 Princeton Road, died at her residence Saturday evening February 3, 1.
Mrs. Moore was born in Pittsylvania County on June 20, 1920, a daughter of the late Willie Leonard Beck and Macie Aaron Beck.
She was married
to Paul Thomas Moore who survives.
Mrs. Moore had made her home in Pittsylvania County all of her life. She worked for Dan River, Inc., and was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church on North Main Street.
Survivors in addition to her husband of the residence include one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Moore Shields and Frank M. Shields of Danville; and three sisters, Ruth Bryant and Annie Beck both of Danville, and Syble Keatts of Cascade; and two brothers, Chester Beck of Stuart, Florida, and Samuel Clay Beck of Broadway; and two grandchildren, Chelsea Victoria Shields and Stuart Craig Shields. She was predeceased by a son, Paul Thomas Moore, Jr.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at First Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Allen Dawson and Rev. Joe Beck. Interment

Nannie Edwards
DANVILLE, Va. - Nannie Graves Edwards, 75, of 115 Northern Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 24, 1925, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Howard Mckinly and Sallie Beck Graves.
She was married
to Charlie Edwards Sr. and graduated from John M. Langston High School. She was employed by the City of Danville and later she retired from Dan River Mills after many years of service. She was an active member of Camp Grove Baptist Church and President of the Camp Grove Neighborhood Association since its inception.
Survivors include one daughter, Malinda E. Nickens of Herndon, Va.; one son, Charlie Edwards Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C.; four grandchildren and one sister, Sallie G. Glaise of Danville.
She was predeceased by one son, Michael Edwards; three sisters, Mary Pumprey and Doris Walls of New York and Anna Ferguson of Danville.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Camp Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Toomer and Rev. Arthur Crews officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Robert Martin
COLLINSVILLE, Va - Robert Dean Martin, 58, of 317 Murphy Road, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at the residence.
Born August 12, 1942, in Martinsville, he was the son of Robert S. Martin and Ruby Carrico Martin who predeceased him.
He was married
to Darlene M. Martin. He worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber for 31 years.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Keith Martin and Brian Kevin Martin both of Martinsville; one brother Lyndell Martin of Collinsville and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Lawrence Harris officiating. Interment
will be held at Roselawn Burial Park.
