HALIFAX, Va. - Robert "Bob" Dean "Red" Rumbaugh, 59, formerly of Kisiki Township, Pa., died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at his home.
Born Feb. 17, 1941, He was the son of Claude A. Rumbaugh and Rose Dunmire Rumbaugh who survive.
He was married
to Linda Clark Rumbaugh and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors in addition to his wife include one son, Randy Rumbaugh of Halifax; one daughter Elizabeth R. Bennet of Ohio; one step daughter, Linda Wentz Saunders of South Boston, Va.; one step son, Sean Robert Stoner of Lynchburg, Va.; one brother Ralph B. Rumbaugh of Springfield, Ohio; one sister, Vivian R. Armitage of Apollo, Pa., and one step grandchild, Zachary Saunders.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. at Union Methodist Church, Wednesday with the Rev. Roger Wilborn and Rev. Melvin Bradshaw officiating.

Myrtle Mae Shields
BLAIRS, Va. - Myrtle Mae Shields, 93, formerly of the Spring Garden Community, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001 at the Roman Eagle Memorial Home after a period of declining health.
Born July 14, 1907, in Pittsylvania, County, she was the daughter of James Thomas Neal and Berta Finch Neal.
She was married
to Harry Adams Shields Sr. who predeceased her Nov. 17, 1987. She lived her life in Pittsylvania County in the Spring Garden Community where she was a member of the Spring Garden Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Harry A. Shields Jr. of Newbury Bershire, England; one daughter Mary Lee Barham of Reidsville, N.C.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. A Kyle Flora and the Rev. Steve Lewis officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30, Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence of Ricky and Pattie Owen, 140 David Giles Lane, Blairs, Va.
Theresa Brown
RICHMOND, Va. - Theresa Herbert Brown, 89, of Richmond, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Bon Secour Memorial Regional Hospital.
Born Oct. 19, 1911, in Henrico County, she was the daughter of Joseph Lawrence Herbert and Catherine Zeller Herbert.
She was married
to James Dorsey Brown, who predeceased her March 16, 1951.
Survivors include one son, Frederick Brown of Richmond Va.; two daughters, Jeanette Taylor of Decatur, Ga., Joyce Wilburn of Danville; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Peggy Collins
DANVILLE, Va. - Peggy Moore Collins age 68 of 224 Courtland St. Danville, Virginia died Wednesday February 7, 2001 at her residence following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Collins was born September 16, 1932 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Mrs. Collins lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County and for the past ten years has resided in Danville. She was the daughter of the late Walter Henry Moore and Minnie Whitlow Moore. She is survived by her husband Haywood Bennett Collins of the residence. She is also survived by one daughter Shelia C. Garrison of Danville; five sisters, Katherine M. Adkins of Danville, Margaret Payne of Chatham, Janie Baer of Bowie, MD, Nancy Hunley and Myrtle Brumfield of Gretna, Douglas Moore of Danville, Wayne Moore of Chatham. She is also survived by a very special and dear friend, Gladys Bowen of Blairs. She was predeceased by two brothers, David Moore and Walter "Putts" Moore: she was also predeceased by one sister, Dorothy Saunders.
She was a member of Payneton United Methodist Church and Timberlake Baptist Ladies Sunday School Class, she also attended Blairs Baptist Church. She was employed for ten years at Bassett Walker of Chatham prior to her retirement.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday February 10, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. from the Hillcrest Burial Park, Chatham, VA by Rev. Jonathan Reed. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at the Blairs Baptist Church at 3:00 P.M. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 P.M. February 9, 2001 at Scott Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence of her daughter Shelia Garrison, 128 Clarkson Street, Danville. Olleen Durham
DANVILLE, Va. - Olleen Anderson Durham, age 72, of 8 Holcomb Ave., died at her residence Tuesday afternoon Feb. 6, 2001 after a one year decline in health. Mrs. Durham was born in Danville on November 3, 1928, a daughter of the late George E. Anderson and Mamie Warren Anderson.
She was married
to Raymond E. Durham who died in 1965.
Mrs. Durham was a graduate of Cobb Memorial High School in Ruffin, N. C., and had spent most of her life in Pelham, N. C., and Danville. She worked as a quality auditor for Dan River Inc. and was a member of Forest Lawn Baptist Church where she had sung in the choir since 1956.
Survivors include two daughters: Patsy Durham Cox of Danville, and Judy Durham Wells of Crystal River, Fla., and three grandchildren: Travis Wells of the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Drum, N. Y., and Frank L. Cox, III, and Christie D. Cox both of Danville, and one great grandchild: Tyson Wells of New York, and three sisters: Mary Watlington and Maxine McDowell both of Danville, and Doris Evans of Ninety Six, S. C., and two brothers, George E. Anderson Jr. of Danville, and James Randall Anderson of Colonial Heights.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Larry Durham and Rev. Tim Nuckles. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery. The family will receive friends at the the funeral home on Thursday from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., and at the residence at other times.
Nannie Edwards
DANVILLE, Va. - Nannie Graves Edwards, 75, of 115 Northern Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 24, 1925, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Howard Mckinly and Sallie Beck Graves.
She was married
to Charlie Edwards Sr. and graduated from John M. Langston High School. She was employed by the City of Danville and later she retired from Dan River Mills after many years of service. She was an active member of Camp Grove Baptist Church and President of the Camp Grove Neighborhood Association since its inception.
Survivors include one daughter, Malinda E. Nickens of Herndon, Va.; one son, Charlie Edwards Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C.; four grandchildren and one sister, Sallie G. Glaise of Danville.
She was predeceased by one son, Michael Edwards; three sisters, Mary Pumprey and Doris Walls of New York and Anna Ferguson of Danville.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Camp Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Toomer and Rev. Arthur Crews officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Cunningham and Hughes Memorial Chapel and at other times at the residence, 115 Northern Drive.
Doris Hudgins
DANVILLE, Va. - Doris Virginia Gosney Hudgins, 87, of 310 Girard St., died Feb. 5, 2001, at the Wesleey Care Center in Charlotte, N.C.
Born April 3, 1913, she was the daughter of James Dameron Gosney and Cora Mae Durham Gosney.
She was married
to Jesse Beckham Hudgins who died on Jan. 10, 1973. She lived most of her life in Danville where she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Tabernacle for over 50 years where she was a former nursery worker and was active with the Senior Group of the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn H. Bailey of Charlotte, N.C., Judith H. Atkins, of Hampton, Va.; one son Jesse Ronald Hudgins of Spencer, N.C.; one sister of Louise G. Farmer of Danville, Va.; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at The Tabernacle with the Rev. Lamarr Monneyham and Rev. Dr. R.J. Barber Jr. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence.
Harvey Jones
CHATHAM, Va. - Harvey Jones, 87, of 3960 Game Reserve Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, in Blueridge Rehab Center in Martinsville, Va.
Born April 5, 1913, he was the son of Willis Jones and Metilda Womack.
He was married
to Mildred Jones who survives. He was a farmer and member of the Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church in Chatham where he served on the usher board.
Survivors in addition to his wife include, one daughter, Evelyn Barley; two sisters, Love Kate Guy, of Chatham, Irene Harris of Danville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Willie Green Jones, King Arthur Jones, Clifton Grove Jones, George Jones and two sisters Louise Stone and Ida Jamerson.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church by Dr. H.G. McGhee Sr. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.

Cleo Lahanas
DANVILLE, Va. - Cleo Marcus Lahanas, 87, of 403 Wilson Street, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born August 19, 1913, in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of Michael M. Marcus and Stamatia Nicholas Marcus.
She was employed at the V.C. Restaurant.
Survivors include one son, Spearos A. Lahanas of Danville; one daughter, Mary L. Roundalas of St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, and one sister Mary Vardavas Dorsett of Danville.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada.

Carlton Merricks Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Carlton Austin Merricks Sr., 75, of 460 Iris Lane, died Feb. 6, 2001, at the Piney Forest Health Care Center after six months of declining health.
Born March 10, 1925, in the Callands Community of Pittsylvania County. He was the son of Claude Washington Merricks and Sallie Ann Austin Merricks.
He was married
to Florence Mae Scearce Merricks who survives him. He lived all his life in Pittsylvania County. He was retired from Dan River Inc. where he worked in the maintenance department after 37 years of service. He was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church. He served with the Untied States Army during World War II.
Survivors in addition to his wife include, two sons, Carlton Austin Merricks Jr., Ralph Daniel Merricks, both of Danville; one brother, Billy Merricks of Callands, Va.; two sisters, Mamie M. Adkins, Vergie M. Wertz both of Danville; three grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; one step grandchild and two step great-great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday, at the Wrenn Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Don Davidson and Robert Vermillion officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

James Walden Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - James Levi Walden Jr., 42, of 1501 North Jamerson Road, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001 at his residence.
Born Aug. 10, 1958, in Danville, he was the son of the James Levi Walden Sr. and Malinda Emerson Walden.
Survivors include five sisters, Mary W. Dodd of Axton, Va., Carolyn W. Craddock of Dumfries Va., Wendy W. Byrd of Chatham, Va., Diane W. Brace, Linda W. Vannatta both of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Ricky Walden of Danville and Roger Walden of Chatham.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at the Hillcrest Burial Park with the Rev. Gilbert Brantley officiating. Interment
will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park in Chatham, Va.

Mary Brown
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Mary Baxter Brown, age 102, died on Wednesday, February 7, 2001, at the Martha Jefferson House & Infirmary in Charlottesville, VA.
Born on November 28, 1898 in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of William C. Baxter and Marjorie Baxter.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stuart L. Brown.
Mrs. Brown had lived in Danville for many years and was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany for 35 years. She moved to Charlottesville in 1984.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Stuart L., Jr. and Bonnie Brown of Staunton, VA; two grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Stuart L., III and Molly Brown of Staunton, and William Baxter and Anne Brown of Dublin, Ohio; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Isabelle B. Miller of Waynesboro, VA.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 12, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. James Mathieson in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home prior to the service.
