SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Margaret Wood Lawson, 88, of 611 Greenway Drive, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at Seasons of the Woodview.
Born Jan. 30, 1914, she was the daughter of George W. Wood and Elizabeth C. Wood.
She was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church.
She was married to David C. Lawson Sr.
She is survived by one son, David C. Lawson Jr. of Halifax and one grandson.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Russell Lee and the Rev. Doug Martin officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of her son, 1050 Occoneechee Trail, Halifax.

Gail Lipford
GRETNA, Va. - Gail Lipford, 38, of Colonial Ridge Apt. 404, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, in U.Va. Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va.
Born Feb. 10, 1964, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of Homer A. Lipford Sr. and Lucy Lipford, who survives.
She was self-employed and was a member of the United Baptist Church in Hurt.
In addition to her mother of Gretna, she is survived by one daughter, Sophia Lipford and one son, Parker Lipford, both of the residence; one brother, Homer Lipford Jr. of Lynchburg; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday from the United Baptist Church with the Rev. Derek Whittle officiating. Interment will follow in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, in Hurt.
The family will be at the residence.

Luther Earl Philpott Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Luther Earl Philpott Sr., 65, of 61 Shumate St., died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three weeks of declining health and one week in the hospital.
Born March 26, 1937, in Penhook, he was the son of Benjamin Harrison Philpott and Noradell Adkins Philpott.
He moved to the Danville area in 1969, where prior to his retirement in 1992, he was employed with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He was a member of the U.R.W. #831 and was of the Baptist faith.
He married Nancy Louise Ray Philpott on March 10, 1956.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by three sons, Luther Earl Philpott Jr. of Danville, Benny J. Philpott of Callands and Gerald Wayne Philpott of the residence; a daughter, Debbie P. Dew of Brosville; three brothers, Glenn T. Philpott of Danville, Saford W. Philpott of Dry Fork and Clayton G. Philpott of Callands; four sisters, Levita P. Reynolds of Martinsville, Ruby P. Robertson of Penhook, Margaret P. Hines of Providence, N.C. and Patsy P. Tankersley of Hardy; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth M. Philpott.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Rick Lancaster and the Rev. Gil Hawks officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Earnest W. Trammell
DANVILLE, Va. - Earnest W. Trammell, 57, of 127 Franklin Turnpike, died Sunday. Dec. 29, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one week in the hospital. He had been in declining health since August.
Born Nov. 9, 1945, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Edward W. Trammell and Cora Phelps Trammell.
He was born in the Mount Cross community of Pittsylvania County, where he lived most of his life. He was a custodian for Dan River, Inc. for 30 years and retired on disability Aug. 24, 2002. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was married to Shirley Walker Trammell, who predeceased him Aug. 29, 1992.
He is survived by a sister, Bonnie Trammell Wilson of Whitmell; two brothers, Edward Clifton Trammell of Keeling and Harry Eugene Trammell of Ringgold and a number of nieces and nephews.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Gilmore Hundley officiating.

Eleanor B. Allen
DANVILLE, Va. - Eleanor B. Allen, 86, formerly of 614 Franklin Turnpike, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 9, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of James Austin Bartee and Eula Lester Adams Bartee, both deceased.
She retired from Health-Tex, where she worked as a seamstress. She was a member of the Health-Tex Retirees Club. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and had served as Secretary of the church for about one year. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's Club.
She was first married to Charlie Coleman, who predeceased her. She later married John R. Allen, who also predeceased her.
She is survived by a daughter, Cassandra Jane Coleman of Lynchburg; a stepson, John R. Allen Jr. of Danville; a stepdaughter, Odette Cowan of Danville; four step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren and two step great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Charlie Nelson Coleman Jr. and two brothers, Aubrey Bartee and Lester Bartee.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Duncan and the Rev. Dr. David Palmer officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

Helen S. Breedlove
DANVILLE, Va. - Helen S. Breedlove, 74, of 17 Noel Ave., died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center after five years of declining health.
Born Aug. 4, 1928, in Burlington, N.C., she was a daughter of Thomas Solomon and Dena Sue Fackler Solomon.
She lived most of her life in Danville and was a retired employee of Dan River Mills. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She married George H. Breedlove Sr. on Aug. 3, 1946.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, George H. Breedlove Jr. of Sanford, N.C.; a daughter, Sharon B. Slayton of Ringgold; a sister, Velma Darnell of Danville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church, Edgewood Drive, with the Rev. Lester Gayton and the Rev. J.C. Raper officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
The family received friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church Social Hall and at other times will be at the residence.

Clarence Ray Chandler
DANVILLE, Va. - Clarence Ray Chandler, 76, of 156 Stratford Place, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003 at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born July 8, 1926, in Danville, he was the son of Clarence Yancey Chandler and Martha Gerald Chandler.
He served in the U.S. Navy for two years during World War II prior to serving 27 years in the U.S. Air Force. He later worked for the City of Danville from 1972 until 1991 in the utilities department.
He was of the Presbyterian faith and a member of the VFW.
He was married to Barbara Jean Setliff Chandler.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by one son, Lt. Col. David Winston Chandler of Bellbrook, Ohio; one daughter, Athena Diann O'Connor of Wilmington, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Swicegood Chapel with the Rev. Lester Gayton officiating.
There will be a private burial.
The family will be at the residence.

Tillman Evans
CHATHAM, Va. - Bruce Tillman Evans, 71, died Jan. 21, 2003, in Danville Regional Medical Center after being in declining health for the past three months and in the hospital for the last six days.
Born Nov. 2, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Upson Bruce Evans and Hallie Tillman Evans, who predeceased him.
He had lived all his life in Pittsylvania County. He was owner and president of the former Durham Hosiery Mill and was a charter member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a Military Policeman.
He is survived by one daughter, Brenda Evans Moore, of Marshville, N.C.; three brothers, Ernest Leroy Evans of Manassas, Va., Charles Leon Evans of Fort Mill, S.C. and Robert "Bobby" Daniel Evans of Taylor, S.C.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Joyce Evans Gauldin.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Robert Hardy officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors by Dan River American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard.

James Thurlow Kelly
HURT, Va. - James Thurlow Kelly, 85, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Alma Gibson Kelly to whom he was married for 65 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Sanford E. Kelly and his wife, Nancy L., of Richmond; one daughter, Janice K. Reynolds and her husband, Ronnie C., of Richmond; and three grandchildren, Amy Hennage and her husband, Brad, J. Clinton Kelly and his wife, Katie, and Andrew C. Kelly and his fiance, Dollie Marshall.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in New Bethel United Methodist Church, Hurt, by the Rev. James Brown. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Finch and Finch, Inc. Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista.
Sheneice Antonia Kennedy
FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Sheneice Antonia Kennedy, 26, of 148 South Daugherty St., died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was the daughter of Deborah Wilson and Euree Walters. She was the stepdaughter of Larry D. Beard and Vanessa Walters.
She was married to Desmond Kennedy and was a three year veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to her husband, of the residence, her mother of Fayetteville, N.C. and father of Virginia Beach, Va., she is survived by two sons, David Kennedy and Sean Kennedy, both of the home; two daughters, Dejza Walters and Debra Kennedy, both of the home; one brother, Eric Walters of Danville, Va.; and three sisters, Nicole Beard of Fayetteville, Angela Beard of Clearwater, Fla. and Crystal Walters of Danville, Va.
The funeral will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday from the Manna Church with Pastor Tyrant Davenport officiating. Interment will follow in the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, N.C.

Jeff Truitt Kiser
DUBLIN, Ga. - Jeff Truitt Kiser, 48, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003 at the VA Hospital in Salisbury, N.C.
Born in Rowan County, N.C., he was the son of Iona Fackler Kiser, who survives, and William H. Kiser.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his mother, of Marshville, N.C., he is survived by one sister, Deedra Paschal of Marshville; and two brothers, Phil and Noel Kiser of Wingate, N.C.
The memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Hope Church of Marshville with the Revs. Randy and Patricia Shankle officiating. Interment will be in the VA National Cemetery in Salisbury, N.C.

Kathryn E. Lyke
DANVILLE, Va. - Kathryn E. Lyke, 87, of 2344 Riverside Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Sept. 18, 1915, in Avoca, N.Y., she was the daughter of William H. Lyke and Ethel Taylor Lyke.
She graduated from Avoca High School in June 1933. She worked for Bendix Corporation in Elmira, N.Y., where she worked assembling security materials for Navy defense contracts.
She attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Ill., graduating in August 1944 from a two-year course in children's work. She went to work in Rochester, N.Y. for Taylor Instrument Companies until 1950, then became employed by Hawkeye Works of Eastman Kodak until moving to Charlottesville in 1971. She moved to Danville in 1983.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday from Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. R.J. Barber Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
