Billy Powell
DANVILLE, Va. - Billy Ray Powell, 48, of 125 London Drive, died suddenly Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 14, 1952, he was the son of Herbert Lee Powell and Mildred Cox Powell, who survive.
He lived all his life in Danville and worked as a carpenter for B.L. Dickens & Sons Construction Company. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, one daughter, Lindsay Rae Powell of Danville and three sisters, Peggy P. Briggs of Prospect Hill, N.C., Pam K. Powell of Danville, and Rhonda P. Lester of Dry Fork.
He was predeceased by one son, Robert Nicholas Powell.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Billy Hedrick and the Rev. John H. Meadows officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence of his parents, 125 London Drive in the Edgewood Community.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Powell family, 125 London Drive, Danville, VA 24541.

Walter Satterfield
RICHMOND, Va. - Walter Brooks Satterfield, 79, of 703 Marshall Avenue, South Boston, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001 at the V.A. Hospital in Richmond.
Born Nov. 20, 1921, he was the son of Edward Fleming Satterfield and Rosa Rottler Satterfield.
He was married
to Marjorie Goodwin Satterfield, who predeceased him. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps and was a member of American Legion Post 8, V.F.W. Post 8243 and Green’s Folly Country Club. He was also a member of Second Baptist Church. He was employed by the United States Postal Service before his retirement.
Survivors include one son, Daniel Satterfield of Midlothian; one daughter, Carolyn S. Lyons of Richmond; two brothers, Phillip Satterfield of South Boston, Ralph Satterfield of Danville; one sister, Mary S. Childrey of Hampton; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his wife and parents, by four brothers, Robert Satterfield, Leo Satterfield, John Eddie Satterfield, Morrell Satterfield; one sister, Martha S. Russell and one grandchild, Lori Lyons.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Olive Branch U.M.C. cemetery in Alton with the Rev. Jim Smith officiating.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Hester Williamson
DANVILLE, Va. - Hester G. Williamson, 58, of 233 Baugh Street, Apartment B, Danville, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001 at the Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health.
Born Oct. 2, 1942 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of James Graves and Bernice Graves.
Survivors include four daughters, Bonnie Ross, Theresa Kates, and Tina Walters, all of Danville, Priscilla Kates of Washington D.C. and one son, Calvin Graves of Danville.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel. Interment
will follow at the Highland Burial Park cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Theresa Kates, 304 Church Street, Danville.

Letcher Craddock
GRETNA, Va. - Letcher Blair Craddock, 77, of 702 Henry Street, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at his residence.
Born Oct. 4, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Virgil E. Craddock and Lottie Blair Craddock.
He was married
to Earleen George Craddock. He was a member and former deacon of Greenfield Baptist Church and a retired farmer.
Survivors in addition to his wife include, one son Ricky L. Craddock of Myrtle Beach S.C. and one brother, George Craddock of Gretna.
He was predeceased by one sister Edith Eastwood and a brother Curtis Craddock.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenfield Baptist Church with the Rev. R.G. Rowland officiating. Interment
will follow at Gretna Burial Park.

Harold Eaton, Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Harold Allen Eaton, Sr., 68, of 4900 Whitmell School Road, Dry Fork, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center after two years of declining health.
Born Aug. 16, 1932 in Eauclaire, Wis., he was the son of Allen Eaton and Vera Briggs Eaton.
He was married
to Anita Ludwig Eaton, who predeceased him Feb. 13 1999. He had lived in Clark, N.J. before moving to Danville nine years ago. He worked as an engineer with Union Local 825 before his retirement.
Survivors include four sons, Hans Ludwig of the home, Allen Eaton of Pennsylvania, Edward Eaton and Harold Eaton, both of New Jersey; two daughters, Claudia Ludwig-Gryder of Texas, Petra Mutchler of New Jersey; five sisters, Marion Jaenke and Evelyn Koepl, Marion Jaenke and Evelyn Koepl both of Arizona, Ardella Marion of Florida, Martha Jaenke, Bertha Jaenke both of Wisconsin and 14 grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Martha Hand
PRINCETON, Va. - Martha Taylor Hand, 91 of Rt. 3 Box 338, Halls Ridge Road, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001 at her residence.
Born Oct. 24, 1909, in Eden, N.C., she was the daughter of William B. and Ada R. Coffer Taylor.
She was a member of the Johnston Chapel Baptist Church in Princeton and a former member of the DMA's of the church. She was a retired spinner having workedat Dan River Mills in Danville, Va. She had lived in Princeton since 1976 moving from Danville, Va.
Survivors include four step daughters, Christine Bland of Florida, Madeline Bailey of Albuquerque, N.M., Faye Fox, Mary Whittaker, both of Princeton; one sister, Helen Reynolds of Eden, N.C.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Delmer Lee Hand, her second husband, Julius Hand; two brothers, Jessie Taylor, Robert Taylor; two sisters, Inez Williams, Mozelle Napoli; her stepmother, Laura Taylor,; one step son, Charles Hand,; one step daughter, Bettye Bradley.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Jones officiating. Interment
will follow 1 p.m. Wednesday at Danville Memorial Gardens in Danville, Va.
Friends may call at the funeral home 1 p.m. Tuesday until the service hour.
Elsie Hundley
DANVILLE, Va. - Elsie Beatrice Haga Hundley, 97, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at the Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 28, 1903, in Appomattox, Va., she was the daughter of Roland E. Haga and Bessie Turnes Haga.
She was married
to William E. Hundley who predeceases her. She was a graduate of Harrisonburg State Teachers College and taught for a number of years in Danville and Baltimore, Md. city schools.
Survivors include one brother, Howard Haga of Front Royal, Va.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Roland E. Haga, Jr., Preston B. Haga, Robert Bruce Haga, three sisters, Thelma H. Ragland, Mary H. Bacon, and Rachel H. Dix.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Jonathon Bennett officiating.

Clarence Morris Sr.
VIRGILINA, Va. - Clarence Shelton Morris, Sr., 80, of 2196 Hitesburg Church Road, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born September 12, 1920, he was a member of Union United Church of Christ and was a retired carpenter..
Survivors include, three sons Clarence S. Morris of South Boston, Va., James Morris of Roxboro, N.C., Ricky Morris of Turbeville, Va.; two daughters, Judy M. Overby of Virgilina, Va., Diane Lane of OXford, N.C.,; two sisters, Mary Tuck of Virgilina, Va., Louis Morris of Virgilina, Va.; one brother, Louis Morris of Virgilina, Va.; and 10 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two wives, Pearl Tuck Morris and Thelma Overby Morris
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the graveside with the Rev. Jack Stewert officiating. Interment
will be at Virgilina cemetery.

Ocris "Buster" Motley
DANVILLE, Va. - Ocris Benjamin "Buster" Motley, Jr., 85, of 702 Arlington Road died Sunday, Feb. 11 at Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in the hospital for 2 1/2 weeks.
Born Sept. 2, 1915 in Danville, he was the son of the Ocris B. Motley, Sr. and Eva Lee Osborne Motley.
He was married
Oct. 19, 1940 to Ruth Elizabeth Parsons Motley, who survives.
He was employed by Dan River, Inc. for 35 yrs. before going to P. Lorillard where he was a supervisor until 1982. He was also a timekeeper and State Commissioner for the local professional wrestling matches for several years.
Survivors include, in addition to his wife of the residence, three daughters, Ruth Ann Motley Fuller of Bedford, Va., Vicky Lee Motley of the residence and Diane Marie Motley Clancy of Danville; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter, and one sister, Barbara Cannon of Danville.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gary Milstead officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Memorials may be given to the Danville Life Saving Crew.
