DANVILLE, Va. - Minnie V. Price, 86, of 219 Mabin St., died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 24, 1914, she was the daughter of James Vasser and Minnie Marable Vasser
She was married
to Charlie J. Price Sr. who predeceased her.
She is survived by two daughters, Bobbie J. Sykes and Mary L. Glass, both of Danville; four sons, Frederick Price of Danville, Charlie J. Price Jr. of Washington, D.C., Clifton A. Price of Absecon, N.J., and Eugene E. Price of Charlotte, N.C.; thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and two sisters, Nannie Juanita White of Danville and Verna Mae Martin of Washington, D.C.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church on Betts Street. Interment
will follow at Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral home and at other times at the residence.

Eugene Thornton
DANVILLE, Va. - Eugene Lee Thornton, 81, formerly of Kentuck Road and a resident of Piney Forest Health Care for the past three years, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three years of declining health. He had been in the hospital for two days.
Born Aug. 1, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Clyde Albert Thornton and Hilda Lee Barker Thornton.
He was married
to Frances Owen Lester Thornton who predeceased him June 21, 1993. Mr. Thornton lived his life in the Kentuck community where he was a member of Rock Springs United Methodist Church. Mr. Thornton was employed with O.C. Thornton Pump and Tank Services and retired after 20 years of service.
Survivors include three brothers, Lacey Melvin Thornton of Ringgold, Willie L. Thornton of Danville, Tommy K. Thornton of Ringgold; three sisters, Hilda T. Booth of Ringgold, Anna M. Thornton of Ringgold, Melba T. Collie of Ringgold; three sisters-in-law, Margaret W. Thornton of Ringgold, Louise D. Thornton of Danville, Betty Ann Thornton of Ringgold and two brothers-in-law, Herman V. Booth of Rinngold and John A. Collie of Ringgold.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Olin C. Thornton and George Albert Thornton.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Rock Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Bradford officiating. Interment
will follow at Blankenship Family cemetery.
The family will be at the home of Margaret Thornton, 7000 Kentuck Road.

Shirley Stone
GRETNA, Va. - Shirley “Soap” Stone, 57, of 242 Harrison Street, Gretna, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001 at Virginia Baptist Hosptial in Lynchburg.
Born Dec. 6, 1943 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of James Stone and Catherine Hall Stone, who survives.
He was married
to Louise Stone, who survives. He worked as a farmer and was a member of the St. Paul Outreach Center in Chatham, Va.
Survivors, in addition to his mother and wife, include four daughters, Lisa Stone of Gretna, Stacey Stone of Long Island, Faye Clark of Altavista, Teresa Stone of Hurt; two sons, Gerald Stone of Gretna, Jeffery Davis of Lynchburg; three sisters, Beatrice Farmer and Goldie Monroe, both of Gretna, Patricia Davis of Danville; four brothers, John Stone, Tad Stone, and Claude Stone, all of Gretna; Clarence Waller of Gladys and 13 grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his father, by one sister, Marie Monroe and three brothers, Leroy Hall, James Stone and Raymond Carter.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Paul Outreach Center in Chatham with Bishop Walter J. Anderson officiating.
Interment will follow at the Elba cemetery.

Doris Tucker
CHATHAM, Va. - Doris Hodnett Tucker, age 97, of Altera Clare Bridge Home of Greensboro, N.C. formerly of Chatham for thirty years, died Sunday, February 18, 2001 at the Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro. Mrs. Tucker was born January 31, 1904 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Claude Tucker. She is survived by one son, Irvine R. Tucker and his wife Cornelia H. Tucker of Greensboro, N.C.; two grandchildren, Linda T. Morris and her husband Charlie of Gulf Shores, Ala. and Patsy T. Samples and her husband Steve of Columbia, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Sean and Stewart Samples, of Columbia, S.C. and Dr. Jason Bearden of Birmingham, Ala.; two great-great-grandchildren, Brandon and Jacob Samples. She was predeceased by one daughter, Flossie L. Tucker. She was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday February 20, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. from the Mill Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. James Bullock, Jr. and the Rev. Charles Phelps. Interment
will be in the Clover Bottom Baptist Church cemetery in Halifax County, Virginia. Scott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Harry Foley
DANVILLE, Va. - Harry Ross Foley, 85, of 133 Lipton Lane, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 25, 1915 in Patrick County, he was the son of John Abe Foley and Fannie Bryant Foley.
He was married
to Ruth Durham Foley, who predeceased him in 1960, and remarried
to Dorothy Ferguson Foley, who predeceased him in 1995. He graduated from Blue Ridge Mission School in Patrick County and was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He was the former owner of Patrick County Hardware in Stuart and later worked for Piedmont Hardware, Smith Hardware, and Booth White Sporting Goods. He once held the title for largest rainbow trout caught in Virginia and was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include two stepchildren, Robert W. Ferguson, Carolyn O. Scruggs, both of Danville; two sisters, Jean F. Ferguson of Bassett, Lenna F. Rakes of Lakeland, Fla., and seven step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents and wives, by four brothers, Fred Foley, Arthur Foley, John Foley, Zander Foley and three sisters, Kate F. Crawford, Grace F. Ashworth and Esther F. Ingram.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Lee Ellison and the Rev. Steve Carlton officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Carolyn Scruggs, 719 Norfolk Place in Surry Hills.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Moffett Memorial Baptist Church Music Fund or a charity of choice.
Paul Glasgow
CASSELBERRY, Fla. - Paul W. Glasgow, 69, of Casselberry, Fla., formerly of Danville, Va., died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001 at Winter Park Hospital in Winter Park, following a lengthy illness.
Born October 6, 1931 in Danville he was the son of George Oliff Glasgow and Alpha Dooley Glasgow.
He was married
to Edith F. Glasgow, who survives. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Monmouth, N.J., and following his discharge lived in New Jersey before moving to Florida.
Survivors inlcude, in addition to his wife, a son, George Oliff Glasgow and granddaughter, both of Apopka, Fla., and a sister, Ann G. Ferrell of 2947 N. Main St., Danville.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Emmett Glasgow and George E. Glasgow and two sisters, Kathleen G. Nelson and Adelaide G. Taylor.
There will be a memorial service held at a later date at Lake Ola Baptist Church in Zellwood, Florida.
Dovie Joyce
DANVILLE, Va. - Dovie Craig Joyce, 90, of 427 Ferry Road, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 24, 1910 in Henry County, she was the daughter of Robert Craig and Beulah Adams Craig.
She was married
to George Calvin Joyce, who predeceased her. She was a member of Blackberry Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Estelle J. Durham of Danville, Hester J. Hollandsworth of Bassett; three sisters, Margaret Stone, Edna Gammons and Sharlene Craig, all of Bassett; one brother, Earl Craig of Ridgeway; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one daughter, Mary Joyce Rea; four brothers, Robert Craig, Henry Craig, Monroe Craig, Russell Craig and two sisters, Lucy Isley and Della Rea.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Blackberry Baptist Church with Minister Troy Hollandsworth and the Rev. Michael Hearp officiating. Interment
will follow at the Blackberry Baptist Church cemetery.

James Lane
GRETNA, Va. - James Conerway Lane, 70, of 1565 Renan Road, Gretna, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001 at the Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born May 8, 1930, he was the son of Daisy Boyd Lane and Jim Lane.
He was married
to Violet Barbour, who survives, and later remarried
to Elma Patrick Lane. He was a member of the Mount Airy Baptist Church where he was a member of the board of deacons, an adult Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, treasurer, and president of the Pastor Aide Club. He worked for the Government Printing Office in Washington D.C., before his retirement.
Survivors, in addition to his first wife, include three children, Mae L. Thomas of New Castle, Del., James M. Lane and Mylene S. Lane, both of Wilmington, Del.; two brothers, Jimmie Lee and Joe Thomas Lane, both of Nathalie; six sisters, Earma L. Barbour and Ruby L. Hall, both of Gretna, Marie L. Patrick and Cora L. Barbour, both of Nathalie, Edith L. Watson of Wilmington, Del., Delores Brown of Bexley, Ohio and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by two sisters, Madeline L. Hubbard, Victoria L. Graves; four brothers, Walter, Booker, Warren, and Arbie Lane.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Mount Airy Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert P. King Sr. officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery. His remains will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service.
