William Louhoff Sr.
BLACKSBURG, Va. - William Edwin Louhoff Sr., 58, of 1917 Lacy Lane, Blacksburg, Va., died at Montgomery Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 28, 1942 in Danville, he was the son of Arthur Jones and Vecie DeHart Louhoff.
He was married
to Betty Anderson Louhoff, who survives. He worked at Virginia Tech as an accountant.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter, Cheri Louhoff Gray of Blacksburg; one son, William “Bill” Edwin Louhoff Jr. of Blacksburg; two brothers, Arthur J. Louhoff Jr. of Danville, Richard A. Louhoff of Dry Fork and three grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at New Life Christian Center at Life Bible College, Christianburg with the Rev. Nich Gough officiating.

George Childress
LYNCHBURG, Va. - George Milan Childress, 66, of Sanhill Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Lynchburg General Hospital after a short period of declining health.
Born Nov. 3, 1934, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Harold H. Childress and Fern L. Childress.
He was married
to Jane W. Childress, who survives. He was a United States Army veteran and served as chairman of deacons at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Buddy Huff Sunday School Class. He owned Childress Chevron for the past 35 years and was a member and past president of the Va. Gasoline Dealers Association.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Katherine L. Childress of Gainesville, Fla., and Susan C. Barley of Concord and one brother, Bobby L. Childress, of Rinngold.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Reginald and Charlie Lee Childress.
The funeral will be held 12 p.m. Monday at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Randy Bower, Melvin Winters, and Joel Dover officiating. Interment
will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Temberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Lynchburg Food Bank or Chestnut Hill Baptist Church.

DANVILLE, Va. - Today, February 22, 2001, I, Iris Taylor-Hawker went to be with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. There I will again be with my husband Clifton D. Hawker and my Parents, Walter C. Taylor and Joie Howard Taylor, and also my sister, Jackie T. Ferguson.
Sorryfully, I leave behind my brother W. Sager Taylor, Sister-in-Law Frances D. Taylor of Danville, Va., sister, Faye T. Murdock, Brother-in-Law William C. Murdock, of Blacksburg, Va. Also one neice, Donna Carole Ferguson of College Park, Md., One Grand Neice Joie Scruggs Gray, of Pawley's Island, S.C. and Two Great-Grand Neices and a Nephew.
I was a charter member of New Carrollton Bible Church, Lanham Md. and a member of Oakes Memorial Baptist Church, Dry Fork, Va. Also a published author. Retiree of Bell Atlantic Telephone Company of Maryland. A member of Telephone Pioneers of America.
This I wish to leave with my family and friends, CELEBRATE MY LIFE WITH LOVE. NOT MY DEATH WITH SORROW.

Bright Heist
DANVILLE, Va. - Bright N. Heist, 72, formerly of 1403 Jamerson Road North, died Saturday, February 24, 2001 at the Stratford Health Care Center.
He was born August 23, 1928 in Emmaus, PA a son of Edward and Elmira Heist. On May 11, 1950 he was married
to Joyce M. Heist, who survives. He lived most of his life in Zionsville, PA, where he was very active with the Zionsville Bible Fellowship Church. He served on the Board of Elders for 30 years and on the board of Victory Valley Camp for 30 years. Since moving to Danville he was a member of the Tabernacle.
Survivors in addition to his wife, of the home; include two sons and daughters-in-law; Douglas and Susan Heist, of Hunt Valley, MD and Dwight and Cynthia Heist, of Danville and two grandchildren, Christopher and Chelsea Heist.
Funeral arrangements will be held in Zionsville, PA by the Bachman, Kulik and Reinsmith Funeral Home and are incomplete at this time. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 25, 2001 at the home of Dwight and Cynthia Heist, 2984 Mount Cross Road, Danville. Louis Hughes
DANVILLE, Va. - Louis "Slim" Hughes, 66, of 248 Epps Street, Danville, died Friday Feb. 23, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 31, 1933 in Yanceyville, N.C., he was the son of Carl Hughes and Helen Powell Hughes.
He was married
to Dorothy Hughes, who survives. He worked as a plumber before his retirement.
Survivors include, in addition to his wife, three sons, Carl Hughes of Richmond, Johnny Hughes and James A. Hughes, both of Danville and two daughters, Josphine Davis and Ivy Hughes, both of Danville.
The funeral will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Bryant Lowery
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Bryant Woody Lowery, 76, of 3079 Philpott Road, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hosptial.
Born Jan. 11, 1925, in Halifax County, he was a son of Walter Green Lowery and Maggie Ford Lowery.
He was married
to Arlene Clark Lowery, who predeceased him. He was a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church and worked for J.P.S. before his retirement.
Survivors include devoted friend Hilda C. Tuck of South Boston; two sisters, Hattie L. Long, of Lynchburg, and Becky L. Cliborne, of South Boston, and one brother, Geroge Lowery, of Hopewell.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Melvin Bradshaw officiating. Interment
will take place at Halifax Memorial Gardens.

George Puryear
VERNON HILL, Va. - George "E.D." Edward Puryear, 66, of 1034 Chappell Trail, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Nov. 6, 1934, in Halifax County, he was the son of Roy Walter Puryear and Mary Morris Puryear.
He was married
to Cecil Chappell Puryear, who survives. He was a member of the Berry Hill Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include one son, Michael D. Puryear of Clover; one stepson, Bobby Francis, Jr. of Halifax; four sisters, Maryland Matthews of South Boston, Janie Perkins of Nathalie, Jo Ann Smith and Roberta Coleman, both of Red Oak; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by one brother, James Puryear.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Wilkins and Robert Lewis officiating. Interment
will take place at the church cemetery.

Charlie Shelton
DANVILLE, Va. - Charlie Mercer Shelton, 79, of 4352 Old Richmond Road, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after two days in the hospital and declining health since 1983.
Born July 31, 1921, he was the son of Wilford Shelton and Lillie Taylon Shelton.
He was married
Jan. 3, 1942, to Beulah Rowland Shelton, who survives. He lived his entire life in Pittsylvania County and pastored churches in Bedford and Halifax County before coming to Kentuck Baptist Church in 1961 where he stayed until his retirement. He was a past member of Kent Masonic Lodge No. 305 and was a United States Army veteran during World War II.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a brother, Jerry T. Shelton of Hurt; four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Raqchel S. Wilkerson.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Kentuck Baptist Church with the Revs. S. Felton Carter and Kyle Flora officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens

Edward Wiesner
GRETNA, Va. - Edward I. Wiesner, 88, of Gretna, formerly of Pennsylvania, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001 at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born June 30, 1912 in Philadelphia, Penn., he was the son of Charles Frederick Wiesner and Florence Shepherd Wiesner.
He was married
to Myra Bradby Wiesner, who predeceased him. He was a member of Open Bible Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Lois J. Tupponce of Gretna; one sister, Florence Fieger of Englewood, Fla.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents and wife, by one brother, William Wiesner; one sister, Mabel Eppihimer and one grandson.
The memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Open Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Kyser officiating.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the Open Bible Baptist Church, Drawer C, Chatham, VA 24531.

DANVILLE, Va. - Lawrence "L.C." Williams, 81, of 826 Green Street, died at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born August 4, 1919, he was the son of Robert and Annie Williams.
He was married
to Ethel Dowdy Toomer Williams, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Frances W. Brooks of Sutherland, Elouise Parker of Washington, D.C., Regina Clarke of Seapleasent, Md.; three sons, Edward Leroy Williams of Hawkinville, Ky., Robert Gene Williams of Washington, D.C., Leonard Clarence Williams of Sutherland; one brother, Norman Williams of Ringgold; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by two sons, Mike Williams and Ronnie Williams.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Monday at White Stone Pentecostal Holiness Church, Sutherlin, with Evangelist Gloria Cameron officiating. Interment
will follow at White Stone cemetery.
