Nannie Epperson
Lynch Station, Va. - Nannie Doss Epperson, 81, of 432 Windsong Drive, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in Camelot Hall of Lynchburg.
Born April 30, 1919 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd O. Doss and Sallie McDaniel Doss.
She was married
to Willie Edward Epperson who predeceased her. She was a member of Straightstone Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Leroy Epperson of Lynch Station, Shirley Epperson of Altavista; one daughter, Delma Goodman of Richmond, Va.; one brother James “Mack” Doss of Danville; three sisters, Flossie Houstan of Lynchburg, Louise Irby of Gretna and Annette McGregor of Java; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Colbert-Moran Chapel by the Rev. Thornton “Jim” Critchley, Sr. Interment
will follow at Altavista Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and at other times at the residence, 432 Windsong Drive, Lynch Station.

John Hazelwood
DANVILLE, Va. - John Archer Hazelwood, 57, of 118 Clement Avenue, died Sunday afternoon, February 25, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born December 31, 1943 in Danville, he was the son of WIlliam Henry Hazelwood, who predeceased him, and Vera Hanks Hazelwood, who survives.
He worked for Norfolk Southern Railway as an engineer until his retirement. He was a staff Sargent in the U.S. Army, having served during the Viet Nam War.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen M. Hazelwood of Blairs, Kristi H. Wedley of Charlotte, N.C., Kelly H. Gravely of Danville; one nephew, Ryan Payton Walker of Danville; one granddaughter, Megan Wedley of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Gary E. Hazelwood of Eden, N.C.; Charles Hazelwood of Blairs and two sisters Roslyn Bedford of Merridian, Miss. and Donnivee H. Sparks of Danville.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, at Highland Burial Park with graveside military honors performed by American Legion Post 325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Timmy Holbrook
DRY FORK, Va. - Timothy Ray Holbrook, 26, of 4888 Whitmell School Road, Dry Fork, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center after being involved in an automobile accident.
Born May 19, 1974 in Danville, he was the son of James Oliver Holbrook, Sr. and Patrica Wilford Holbrook who survive.
He was married
to Carrie Long Holbrook of the residence, who survives. Mr. Holbrook lived most of his life in Pelham, N.C. For the past three years he had resided in Pittsylvania County. He was employed with Holbrook Tree Experts as a tree trimmer. Mr. Holbrook was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Long Holbrook of the residence; his parents, James Oliver Holbrook, Sr. and Patrica Wilford Holbrook, both of Pelham, N.C.; one brother, James Oliver Holbrook, Jr. of Dry Fork and three nephews, Joshua Wayne Holbrook, Matthew James Holbrook and Dwayne Hatcher Holbrook, all of Pelham, N.C.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. David Hatcher and Dave Rochford officiating. Interment
will follow at Holbrook Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the home of the parents James and Patrica Holbrook, 440 Poole Road, Pelham, N.C.

Richard Hubbard
HALIFAX, Va. - Richard Blanks Hubbard, died at Halifax Regional Halifax Hospital Sunday, Feb. 26, 2001.
Born September 12, 1913, at Leda, Va., he was the son of Joshua and Minnie Mae Hubbard.
He was married
to Mary Frances Everett in 1935. He was the last family member to farm on the family property and to operate the store at Leda, which was founded circa 1850.
Survivors in addition to his wife include, three sons, Richard of Livermore, Calif., Robert of Kensington, Md., and Stephen of San Diego, Calif.; one foster son, John Quinn of Olney, Md.; ten grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Church in Brookneal with Father Mathias Newell and Father John Petri officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Elizabeth’s Communion Cup Fund or to your favorite charity.

Armstead Swann Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Armstead Henry Swann Sr., 65, of 101 Ida Street, died Sunday Feb. 26, 2001, at his residence.
Born March 2, 1934, in Danville, he was the son of Edward Swann and Ruby Brown Swann.
He was married
to Barbara Swann, who predeceased him. He was veteran of the United States Air Force and was printer with the United States Government prior to his retirement.
Survivors include three daughters, Carol Swann, Myrna Foster, Sharon Mills, all of Danville; three sons, Armstead H. Swann Jr., of Yanceyville, N.C., Darryl Swann and Julian Swann, both of Maryland, two sisters, Carolyn Valentine of Milton, N.C., and Edmonia Swann, of Syracuse, N.Y.; three brothers, Jerry Swann of Clinton, Md., Edward Swann and William Swann, both of Petersburg, Va.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Chapel of Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home with Rev. Letcher Coleman officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Charles Walker Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Charles Ray Walker Sr., 72, of 122 Sweetbriar Drive, died Feb. 25, 2001, at his residence.
Born March 26, 1928 in Franklin County, Va., he was the son of John Rufus Walker and Della Mae Brogan Walker.
He was married
to Darlene Jordan Walker March 31, 1956. He was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a former Sunday School Teacher. He was a Private in the United States Army, and a member of The American Legion Post 325 and the Honor Guard. Our Daddy fought a courageous battle for over 2-1/2 years.
Survivors in addition to the wife of the residence include, three sons, Carl Walker, of Roanoke, Va., Charles Ray Walker Jr. of Roanoke, Va., Gary M. Walker, of Reidsville, N.C.; one daughter Sandra W. Satterwhite, of Stone Mountain, Ga.; two sisters, Mary Pace of Roanoke, Va., Fannie Bowles of Martinsville, Va.; one brother, James Roy Walker, of Blue Ridge, Va.; three grandchildren Johnathon Satterwrite, Jennifer Satterwrite, Joseph Walker; one great niece, Christene Buchanan; one great nephew Michael D. Buchanan, and a number of Nieces and Nephews.
He was predeceased by one grandchild, Joni Satterwrite, three deceased brothers, Marvin Walker, Aubrey Walker, and Albert Walker.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday at First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1810 North Main St. Danville with graveside military honors by American Legion Post 325, Honor Guard. The Rev. Joe Beck, Rev. Allen Dalton and Rev. Daryl Joyce will be officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Rodney Acree
SCOTTSBURG, Va. -- Rodney Leo Acree, 41, of Scottsburg, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 17, 1940, in Baltimore, Md., he was a son of Hugh Acree, who survives.
Survivors include, in addition to his father of Scottsburg, three sisters, Valerie Bond, Carolyn Oliver and Angela Oliver, all of Baltimore, Md., and five brothers, Conrad Acree of Baltimore, Md., Hugh Acree of Nathalie, Joel Acree of Hyattesville, Md., Erwin Acree of Baltimore, Md., and Kenneth Oliver of Baltimore, Md.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Traynham Grove Baptist Church in Nathalie with the Revs. William Keene and Moses Dixon officiating. Remains will lie in state one hour prior to service and interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Nathalie.

George Clark
JAVA, Va. - Mr. George Edd "Bennie" Clark age 92, of 269 Oriole Lane, Java, VA. died Sunday morning (2-25-01) at his residence. Born March 26, 1908 in Pittsylvania County. He was a son of the late Willie Clark and Mattie Haley Clark. He was married
to the late Bernice Clark. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Mt. Airy Baptist Church where he served on the board of trustees. He was a member of the true friends of charity. A past superintendent of Sunday School of the Riceville Baptist Church and past treasurer of the Sr. Choir at the Mt. Airy Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Clark; four brothers: William Clark, Bolden Clark, Posey Clark and Beverly Clark; three sisters: Nannie Pringle, Lillie Campbell, Katherine Dabney, Rebecca Miller, Rosa Clark, and Girlie Powell and a special brother, Joseph Clark.
He is survived by five daughters: Mary Ellen Williams and husband Bernard of Temple Hill, Maryland, Joann Thompson and husband Randolph of Java, VA., Mattie Frances Perry and husband Sidney of Fort Washington, MD., Jannie Davis and Caroline Clark both of Java, VA.; one brother Richard Clark of Golsboro, N.C.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sister-in-laws: Mrs. Cora Clark of Gretna, VA., Mrs. Frances Clark of Phia., PA. and Mrs. Sarah Poindexter of Nathalie, VA. and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1:00 p.m. from the Mt. Airy Baptist Church by Rev. Robert P. King with interment in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gretna is in charge of arrangements.
Carl Harrison
DANVILLE, Va. - Carl Quentin Harrison, 75, of 348 Holbrook Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 30, 1925, in Danville, he was the son of Berkley Harrison and Izma C. Harrison.
He worked as a clerk for the United States Postal Service and was a member of Nehemiah Masonic Lodge, N.A.A.C.P., High Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Men's Bible Class teacher, member of Senior and Male Choir and the Hallelujah Choir, and he served as past leader of High Street Boy Scouts.
Survivors include one sister, Anne H. Clark of the residence; one brother, Berkley Harrison of the residence; one nephew, Harrison Clark of Alexandria and two cousins, C. B. Claiborne of Harrisonburg and Clarence Slaughter of Baltimore, Md.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 3, 2001, 1:00 p.m. from High Street Baptist Chruch with Rev. Jerome Morris officiating. Interment, with Military and Masonic Rites, will follow in Oak Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 348 Holbrook Street.
