DANVILLE, Va. - Louis "Slim" Hughes, 66, of 248 Epps Street, Danville, died Friday Feb. 23, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 31, 1933, in Yanceyville, N.C., he was the son of Carl Hughes and Helen Powell Hughes.
He was married
to Dorothy Hughes, who survives. He worked as a plumber before his retirement.
Survivors include, in addition to his wife, three sons, Carl Hughes of Richmond, Johnny Hughes and James A. Hughes, both of Danville, and two daughters, Josphine Davis and Ivy Hughes, both of Danville.
The funeral will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Leamond Law
DANVILLE, Va. - Leamond Edward Law, 54, of 56 Vandola Road, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 17, 1947, in Danville, he was a son of Henry Thomas Law and Mary Fannie Lipford Law.
He was married
to Phyllis Wilson Law, who survives. He was employed at Dan River Mills for many years.
Survivors include, in addition to his wife, one daughter, Stephanie Law of the residence, one son, Leamond Law, Jr. of the residence, eight sisters, Gracie Newton, Dorothy Robertson, Leslie Law, and Tina Bradshaw, all of New York, Cathy Richardson of Pennsylvania, Theressa Law of Cascade, Gwendolyn Law of Danville, Priscilla Law of Dry Fork and two brothers, Donnie Kent Law of Mount Vernon, N.Y. and Henry Law of Philadelphia, Penn.
The funeral will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William Henry Tarpley officiating. Interment
will follow at the Union Hall Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Ruth Motley
GRETNA, Va. - Ruth Shepherd Motley, 86, of Zion Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Jan. 8, 1915, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of James Shepherd and Lavonia Martin Shepherd.
She was married
to Cecil B. Motley, who survives. She was a member of Sheva Church of Christ and was a homemaker.
Survivors include, in addition to her husband, three sons, Archie L. Motley of Chatham, Ray C. Motley of Chatham, Sterling H. Motley of Danville; four daughters, Pattie M. Farthing, Carolyn M. Shelton, Cecil Faye Shelton and Brenda Gail Motley, all of Gretna; ten grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by two sisters, Julia Bartlett and Carrie Hardy, and six brothers, Howard Shepherd, Harry Shepherd, Clayton Shepherd, George Shepherd, Chris Shepherd, and Amos Shepherd.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Colbert-Moran Chapel with the Revs. Larry Owen and Frank Fuller officiating. Interment
will follow at Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Archie Motley, 6021 Strader Road, Chatham.

Glenna Stewart
VIRGILINA, Va. - Glenna DeLong Miley Stewart, 92, of 1190 Ramble Road, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Oct. 21, 1908, in Pleasant City, Ohio, she was the daughter of Joseph DeLong and Bessie Bates DeLong.
She was married
to William Stewart, who predeceased her. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Mancel L. "Sonny" Miley of Virgilina; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral and interment will be held in Senecaville, Ohio with a memorial service at a later date at Grace Baptist Church.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Grace Baptist Church or a church of choice.

Patricia Tate
NEW YORK, N.Y. - Patricia Ann Tate, 47, of the Bishop House, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Coley Memorial Hospital in New York.
Born June 1, 1953, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of Robert L. Tate Sr. and Edna P. Tate. She attended Danville Public Schools.
Survivors include a grandmother, Lucille Grover of Graham, N.C.; two brothers, Gurney Grover of Graham, N.C., and Robert L. Tate Jr., of New York, and two sisters, Deloris T. Phillips and Phyllis A. Hamlett, both of Danville.
The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Thursday at Loyal Baptist Church with the Rev. Lovell Maxwell Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Charles Walker Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Charles Ray Walker Sr., 72, of 122 Sweetbriar Drive, died Feb. 25, 2001, at his residence.
Born March 26, 1928, in Franklin County, Va., he was a son of John Rufus Walker and Della Mae Brogan Walker.
He was married
to Darlene Jordan Walker March 31, 1956. He was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a former Sunday School Teacher. He was a Private in the United States Army, and a member of The American Legion Post 325 and the Honor Guard. Our Daddy fought a courageous battle for over 2-1/2 years.
Survivors in addition to the wife of the residence include, three sons, Carl Walker, of Roanoke, Va., Charles Ray Walker Jr. of Reidsville, N.C., Gary M. Walker, of Reidsville, N.C.; one daughter Sandra W. Satterwhite, of Stone Mountain, Ga.; two sisters, Mary Pace of Roanoke, Va., Fannie Bowles of Martinsville, Va.; one brother, James Roy Walker, of Blue Ridge, Va.; three grandchildren Johnathon Satterwhite, Jennifer Satterwhite, Joseph Walker; was also "Papa" to one great niece, Christene Buchanan; one great nephew Michael D. Buchanan, and a number of Nieces and Nephews.
He was predeceased by one grandchild, Joni Satterwhite, three deceased brothers, Marvin Walker, Aubrey Walker, and Albert Walker.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday at First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1810 North Main St. Danville with graveside military honors by American Legion Post 325, Honor Guard. The Rev. Joe Beck, Rev. Allen Dalton and Rev. Daryl Joyce will be officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Feb. 27, 2001, Tuesday night, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.

Justin Walton
DANVILLE, Va. - Justin Ward Walton, 77, of 617 Pocohontas Road, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Martinsville Hospital after three years of declining health.
Born Oct. 19, 1923, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, he was a son of John W. Walton and Leta Bolish Walton.
He was married
to Harriet Louise Stedlt Walton. They where married
Dec. 16, 1945. He moved to the Danville area in 1983 where, prior to his retirement, he was employed as an accounting controller with Goodyear. He also served in the Army Air Corp. during World War II.
Survivors in addition to his wife include one daughter, Laura L. Walton, of Wake Forest, N.C.; one son, Fred A. Walton of Akron, Ohio; three sisters, Leta W. Curth of Findley, Ohio, Ann W. Mangett of Carey, Ohio, and Mae W. Harshman of Tiffin, Ohio.
A funeral will be held 5 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. James W. Mathieson officiating. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel.

Edward Wann
BUFFALO JCT., Va. -- Edward Lee Wann, 70, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston.
He was the son of Charlie E. Wann and Bessie Nealy Wann.
He was married
to Beulah Jarrell Wann. He was born in the Schoolfield Community in Danville and served in the Marines and worked for the Danville School Board for 27 years prior to his retiring in 1993. He had been in declining health for many years.
Survivors in addition to his wife include four daughters, Vicki Maurakis of Chatham, Lee Wann of Salem, Pat Browning of Roanoke and Vicki Rudder of Dry Fork; three sons, Ricky Sisk of Chatham, Gary Sisk of King, N.C., and Anthony Wann of Montgomery, Ala.; one sister, Dot Rowland of Dry Fork; one brother, Melvin Wann of Danville, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Chapel in Clarksville with the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs and Lee Von Eime officiating. Interment
will follow at Gravel Hill cemetery in Buffalo Junction.

Ruth Adams
JAVA, Va. - Ruth Adams, 102, of 1800 Church Road, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at The Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born in Pittsylvania County, Feb. 28, 1898, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Eliza Anderson.
She was twice married
first to the late John Washington Terry and then to the late Marshall Adams. She was homemaker and a member of the Riceville Baptist Church.
Survivors include ten grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at the Riceville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Walker officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.

Albert Anderson
DANVILLE, Va. - Albert Carl Anderson, 47, of 931 Paxton Ave., Danville, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Johnny Bob Anderson and Nonie Whitehead Anderson.
He was married
to Isabelle Bennett Anderson, who survives. He worked for Dan River Mills as a truck driver before his retirement.
Survivors included, in addition to his wife, three daughters, Madelene Cardwell, Katrina Anderson and Tonia "Ree-Ree" Anderson, all of Danville; one son, Albert Angelo Anderson of Danville; eight sisters, Phyllis Womack of Baltimore, Md., Shirley Parker of Fredricksburg, Audrey Parker and Zelbra Bennett, both of Blairs, Violeen Thomas, Etruely Dixon and Doris Witcher, all of Danville, Florence Stone of Greensboro and one brother, Thomas Anderson of Blairs.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Shockoe Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Williams officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Joanne Bowling
DANVILLE, Va. - In the early morning hours of Wednesday, the 28th of February 2001, Joanne Patterson Bowling, beloved wife of Bobby Bowling, passed away at home following a seven year battle against breast cancer
Born on the 26th of March 1960 in Danville, Virginia, Joanne was the daughter of Ronnie & Shirley Patterson, who both survive.
As the sister of Suzan Patterson of Ruffin, N.C. and Chip Patterson of Apex, N.C.; Joanne was a shining ray of sunshine for her family. Her guidance and daily inspiration shaped the lives everyone she called a friend.
Others in her life, Sandy Bowling Witt, her step-daughter & Trinity Witt, her grandchild of Ringgold, VA; her niece Lisa Ighnat of Danville, Virginia along with her niece, Lauren Patterson and nephew, Robby Patterson of Apex, N.C. held very special places in her heart.
As a child, Joanne was Little Miss Danville. Following graduation from George Washington High School in Danville, VA., she later attended classes at Rockingham Community College in Wentworth, N.C. As an employee of Dan River, Inc., Bassett-Walker and later, Pluma. She was employed in various capacities at facilities in Danville VA, Chatham, VA. Martinsville, VA & Eden, N.C.
Many dear friends are left to remember Joanne's overwhelming charm whether she was telling a funny story, traveling with Bobby on their Harley, snuggling with her fur family or giving much needed encouragement to both little children facing their first chemotherapy or folks twice her age facing their own adversities.
The family will receive friends at Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel on Thursday night from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 2, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. also at Wrenn-Yeatts, Westover Chapel. At other times, the family will be at the Bowling residence at 2830 Gravel Hill Road, Cascade, Virginia in the lost corner section of southwest Pittsylvania County.
