DANVILLE, Va. - Carl Quentin Harrison, 75, of 348 Holbrook Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 30, 1925, in Danville, he was the son of Berkley Harrison and Izma C. Harrison.
He worked as a clerk for the United States Postal Service and was a member of Nehemiah Masonic Lodge, N.A.A.C.P., High Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Men's Bible Class teacher, member of Senior and Male Choir and the Hallelujah Choir, and he served as past leader of High Street Boy Scouts.
Survivors include one sister, Anne H. Clark of the residence; one brother, Berkley Harrison of the residence; one nephew, Harrison Clark of Alexandria and two cousins, C. B. Claiborne of Harrisonburg and Clarence Slaughter of Baltimore, Md.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 3, 2001, 1:00 p.m. from High Street Baptist Church with Rev. Jerome Morris officiating. Interment, with Military and Masonic Rites, will follow in Oak Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 348 Holbrook Street.

John Hightower
DANVILLE, Va. - John David Hightower, 51, of 2305 Robinhood Drive died Sunday, February 25, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 5, 1949, in Caswell County, N.C., he was a son of Nancy Roberts Hightower and James D. Hightower, who predeceased him.
He was married
to Catherine Davis Hightower, who survives. He was a member of Movement of Jesus Christ Church and was retired from Southern Process Tobacco Company.
In addition to his wife of Danville and mother of Milton, N.C., survivors include four stepdaughters, Rosa Hightower of Ringgold and Mary Graham, Nancy Bruce and Beverly Ferguson, all of Danville; three stepsons, Sylvester Bruce, Barry Bruce and Tony Davis, all of Danville; four brothers, Leroy Hightower of Ringgold, William Hightower of Milton, N.C., and Larry Hightower and Gary Hightower, both of Danville and three sisters, Marriett Moore of Durham, N.C. and Nancy Hicks and Delois Robinson, both of Danville.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at L.H. Brooks and Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Z.W. Kimber officiating. Interment
will follow at New Zion Church cemetery, Milton, N.C.
A viewing will be held from 2-8 p.m. Friday at L.H. Brooks and Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Samuel Hooker Jr.
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Samuel Arthur Hooker Jr., 71, of 1200 Lombardy Court, Martinsville, died Thursday, March 1, 2001 at Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 3, 1929 in Martinsville, he was the son of Samuel Hooker Sr. and Margarita Scott Hooker.
He was married
to Shirley M. Hooker, who survives. He attended Martinsville City Schools and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Lynchburg College. He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force for four years and served in England and South Africa in the Strategic Air Command. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and an active communicant of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Piedmont Lodge No. 152 and was Lodge Master in 1983. He was a member of Martinsville Royal Arch Chapter No. 40 and was High Priest in 1986. He was a member of George W. Wright Commandery No. 31 where he was Commander in 1983 and 1995, District Deputy Grand Commander in 1989, and Grand Sentinel in 1996. He was a member of Wilderness Road York Rite College No. 94 and received the Gold Honor Award in 1999, a member of Rose of Sharon Prioty No. 2 KYCH and a member of the Kazim Hillbilly Unit in Galax.
Survivors include, in addition to his wife, three daughters, Patricia Kernodle of Newport News, Jennifer Yount of Eden, N.C., Lisa St. Lawrence of Cloverdale; one son, Robert St. Lawrence, II of Roanoke and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church with Dr. William E. Christian and Dr. William Manson officiating. Interment
will follow at Oakwood cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services and at other times at the residence.

Donna Lohman
DANVILLE, Va. - Donna June Lohman, 66, of 1725 Glenn St., died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at her residence.
Born July 12, 1934, in Montrose, W.Va., she was the daughter of Richard Weese and Edna Summerfield Weese.
She was married
to Charles Lohman who predeceased her. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in Danville.
Survivors in addition to her father include one brother, Maxwell Weese of Springfield, W.Va.; three sisters, Vonda Argyrakis of Dryfork, Va.; Wanda Perez of Danville and Ann Dalton of Waterville, Ohio.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Richard Weese and Donald Weese.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday, at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints with Bishop Chris Morgan will be conducting the services. Interment
services will be held Saturday at Parks Family cemetery in Elkins, W.Va.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Townes Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.
Elton Murphy
CHATHAM, Va. - Elton Grove Murphy age 79 of 2036 Tightsqueeze Road Chatham, Virginia died Thursday March 1, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Murphy was born January 8, 1922 in Pittsylvania County. He was the son of the late Robert Murphy and Hassie Edmonds Murphy. He is survived by his wife Myrtle Giles Murphy of the residence. He is also survived by one daughter, Patricia M. Tuck of Chatham; two sons, Charles Elton Murphy of Arrington and Allan Thomas Murphy of Brookneal; two sisters, Elizabeth M. Samuels of Danville and Louise M. Brodie of Martinsville; one brother, Joe Murphy of Blairs; five grandchildren, Elizabeth L. Turpin, Shelley L. Towler, Kimberly M. Hedge, Leigh Anne Murphy, and David B. Murphy; and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one sister and five brothers, Eva M. Ferguson, Gilmer Murphy, Archie Murphy, Robert Murphy, James Murphy, and Thornton Murphy. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. Mr. Murphy was a WWII Army Veteran and a retired carpenter.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday March 3, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. from the Concord United Methodist Church by Rev. Darrell Campbell. Interment

Frank Robinson
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Frank Robinson, 91, of Philadelphia, formerly of Pittsylvania County, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 in Philadelphia.
Born May 28, 1909, he was the son of Isabella Robinson.
He was married
to Lou Anne Robinson, who predeceased him. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
The graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Simmons Family cemetery with the Rev. Lassie Jones officiating.

Gladys Rorer
CHATHAM, Va. - Gladys Foster Rorer, age 87, of 4153 Oxford Road, Chatham responded to her Lord's call to return home Thursday, March 1, 2001 at her residence. Gladys completed her earthly journey in the manner that she preferred, surrounded by her children and grandchildren in a warm home full of love and care.
Born November 20, 1913 in Caswell County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Hiram B. Foster and Eula Gatewood Foster. Mrs. Rorer was predeceased by her husband, John S. Rorer, Sr. and a brother, Douglas Foster. Gladys devoted her life energies to being a faithful wife and nurturing mother. She was a member of Greenpond Baptist Church.
Those who remain to cherish and perpetuate her memory are, son John S. Rorer, Jr. and wife Shirley of Goshen; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan R. and Jack Moore of Chatham, Jean and Maynard Reynolds of Chatham and Barbara R. Cruey of Richmond; one brother, Bas Foster of Yanceyville, NC; four sisters, Elizabeth F. Gunn of Rio Verde, AZ, Ann F. Carroll of Providence, NC, Rebecca F. Fuller of Greensboro, NC and Jane F. Dunn of Rock Hill, SC; 10 Grandchildren and 10 Great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Colbert-Moran Chapel with her grandson, John David Rorer, chaplain of the Salem Police Department and Rev. John McCray officiating. Interment
will follow in Greenpond Baptist Church cemetery.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Elizabeth Robertson Throckmorton, 82, of 1097 Ponderosa Road, South Boston, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001 at The Woodview.
Born April 15, 1918 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Moses Robertson and Hassie Walker Robertson.
She was married
to Ellic Throckmorton, who predeceased her. He worked as a textile worker at Burlington Mills until his retirement.
Survivors include two sisters, Etta R. Moore of South Boston, Rose R. Nellcecero of Eathontown, N.J. and one brother, Arthur H. Robertson.
The memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Saturday at Winn's Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Welch officiating.
The family will be receiving friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at the home of Betty Throckmorton, 1099 Ponderosa Road, South Boston.

Thomas Brown
DANVILLE, Va. - Thomas H. "Tommy" Brown, 69, of 709 Betts St., died Friday, March 2, 2001 at the Ashwood Home for Adults.
Born Oct. 26, 1931, he was the son of E.W. "Buck" Brown and Minnie Lee Duncan Brown.
He had lived all of his life in Danville and worked for Dan River Inc. before his retirement. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, Mike Brown of Danville; one daughter, Terry Milam of Troy; two stepsons, Robert Reed of Brosville, Larry Reed of Blairs; one brother, Averett Brown of Danville; one sister, Lucy LaPrade of Danville; two grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by three brothers, James Brown, Lloyd Brown, and Albert Brown.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jack Robertson officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Mike Brown, 307 Briarwood Drive.

Gerline Carlton
DANVILLE, Va. - Gerline Keeter Carlton, 86, of 72 Parrish Road, died Thursday, March 1, 2001 at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 7, 1914 in Halifax County, N.C., she was the daughter of Gheorge W. Keeter and Alice Ruth Williams Keeter.
She was married
Oct. 11, 1947 to Sidney Leroy Carlton, who survives. She has lived in Danville since 1968 and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Trinity Circle of United Methodist Women and Tuscarora Country Club where she was active in the ladies golf association.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Pat C. Walker of Providence, N.C., Linda C. Daniel of Pelham, N.C.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Linwood Daniel officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Hiram Davis Sr.
SENECA, S.C. - H. Ross Davis, Sr., 85, of 508 Seneca Drive, passed away Friday, March 2, 2001 at the residence.
He was born in Chester County and was the son of Arthur W. Davis and Ellen Brenner Walker Davis.
He was married
to Frances Cagle Davis, who survives. He was the owner of Oconee Salvage Company and was active in the community, church, and political arena. He was a deacon at Seneca Presbyterian Church and served as chef for 30 years. He was past president of Aeronautics Commission of Oconee County and was a member of the Loyal Order of Mosse for over 40 years.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Shirley Davis Lunsford of Danville, Va., Rebecca Davis Richardson of Fort Mill; three stepdaughters, Vicky H. Wood and Deborah H. Owens of Westminster, Rhonda S. Hostetler of Seneca; one son, H. Ross Davis Jr. of Lexington; 11 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by five brothers, James H., Harvey J., Arthur W. Jr., Frank L., Harry A. Davis and two sisters, Frances D. Sanders and Mary E. Davis.
The memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster, with the Rev. George B. Shealy and Dr. Charles Dougherty officiating.
