BLAIRS, Va. - Juanita Stamper Dillon, 67, of 444 Blairs Circle, Blairs, died Thursday, March 1, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center after several months of declining health and over four weeks in the hospital.
Born March 10, 1933, she was the daughter of Harvey Stamper and Betty Edwards Stamper.
She was married
in 1955 to William Lee Dillon, who predeceased her Jan. 7, 1987. She had lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County and Danville and worked as a weaver in the Schoolfield Division of Dan River Inc. until her retirement. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include five daughters, Patricia D. Poteat of Danville, Carolyn Anne D. Whiteside of High Point, N.C., Barbara D. Overton of Blairs, JoAnne D. Barker of Dry Fork, Linda D. Dillon of Danville; one son, Gary Allen Dillon of Salisbury, N.C., one brother, R. Lewis Stamper of Florida; one sister, Annie Lou Moss of Danville; 25 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one son, Wiley Dillon and three brothers, Bruce Stamper, Adean Stamper and Troy Stamper.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Wilson officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence of Patricia Poteat, 202 Annhurst Drive, Danville.

Doris Dixon
DANVILLE, Va. - Doris Dixon, 79, of 2740 Medical Center Road, Danville, Va., died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 15, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Posey and Lula Thompson Leftwich. She was married
to George Dixon Sr., who predeceased her.
Survivors include one son, George Dixon Jr. of Danville, two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-great grandchildren.
The family received visitors Friday in the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home.
The Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Sharon Grove Baptist Church, Axton, with the Rev. Ronald D. Clarke Sr. officiating.

Samuel Hooker Jr.
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Samuel Arthur Hooker Jr., 71, of 1200 Lombardy Court, Martinsville, died Thursday, March 1, 2001 at Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 3, 1929 in Martinsville, he was the son of Samuel Hooker Sr. and Margarita Scott Hooker.
He was married
to Shirley M. Hooker, who survives. He attended Martinsville City Schools and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Lynchburg College. He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force for four years and served in England and South Africa in the Strategic Air Command. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and an active communicant of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Piedmont Lodge No. 152 and was Lodge Master in 1983. He was a member of Martinsville Royal Arch Chapter No. 40 and was High Priest in 1986. He was a member of George W. Wright Commandery #31 where he was Commander in 1983 and 1995, District Deputy Grand Commander in 1989, and Grand Sentinel in 1996. He was a member of Wilderness Road York Rite College No. 94 and received the Gold Honor Award in 1999, a member of Rose of Sharon Prioty No. 2 KYCH and a member of the Kazim Hillbilly Unit in Galax.
Survivors include, in addition to his wife, three daughters, Patricia Kernodle of Newport News, Jennifer Yount of Eden, N.C., Lisa St. Lawrence of Cloverdale; one son, Robert St. Lawrence, II of Roanoke; two sisters, Margaret Hooker Williams of Danville, Nancy Hooker Manning of Kinston, N.C. and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church with Dr. William E. Christian and Dr. William Manson officiating. Interment
will follow at Oakwood cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services and at other times at the residence.

Sally Knight
DANVILLE, Va. - Sally Darlene Wilson Knight, 68, of 1017 Stokes Street, Danville, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 26, 1932 in Danville, she was the daughter of John Noye Wilson Sr. and Annie Gardner Wilson.
She was married
to George B. Knight Sr., who predeceased her. She worked at Danville Regional Medical Center until her retirement and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Danville.
Survivors include one daughter, Iris Gillispie of Danville; two sons, George B. Knight Jr. and Andrew Tyrone Knight, both of Danville; three sisters, Marcel Wimbush of Chatham, Euronia Wilson Coles of Philadelphia, Penn., Cecil Wilson Blecher of Danville; one brother, John Noye Wilson Jr. of Danville; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by one son, Stewart Knight and two brothers, Herbert Wilson and Lawrence Wilson.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Osco Gardin officiating. Interment
will follow at Oak Hill cemetery.

Addie Haymore
DANVILLE, Va. - Addie Marshall Haymore, 75, formerly of 821 Riverview Street, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after 16 months of declining health and three weeks in the hospital.
Born Aug. 23, 1925, in Danville, she was a daughter of Walter Gunn Marshall and Genny Pulliam Marshall.
She was married
April 26, 1943, to Rawley C. Haymore who predeceased her Dec. 4, 1974. She lived her entire life in Danville and was a resident of Riverside Health Care Center for the past 16 months. She was of the Holiness faith and was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy H. Moser and Christine H. Pruitt, both of Danville; one son, Wayne C. Haymore of Danville; one sister, Alpha May Handy of Stuart; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by two sisters, Willie Smith and Myrtle Weaver and a brother, George Gunn Marshall.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Revs. Albert Moser and Jack Robertson officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Carl Hodnett
BASSETT, Va. - Carl E. “Coy” Hodnett, 47, of 143 Pritt Place Lane, Bassett, Va. died Saturday morning (03-03-01) in the University of Virginia Hospital at Charlottesville, Va. Born in Pittsylvania Co., January 22, 1954, he was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Letcher Hodnett of Chatham, Va. He was employed at Hooker Furniture Co. of Martinsville, Va. and was a member of Callands Baptist Church where he served on the board of deacons.
In addition to his parents of Chatham, surviving are his wife, Laurie Hodnett of Bassett, two sons-Cory Hodnett of Bassett and Timothy Smith of Danville; one daughter, Brooke L. Hodnett of Bassett; two brothers-Randy Hodnett of Danville and Freeman Hodnett of Callands; four sisters, Emma J. Hodnett and Frances Hodnett both of Danville, Prence’anna Hodnett of Chatham and Dora Harris of Callands and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Callands Baptist Church by Rev. Obadele St. George with interment in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gretna, is in charge of arrangements.
Bobby Liggon
DANVILLE, Va. - Bobby G. Liggon, age 65, of 359 Surry Lane, died Saturday morning March 3, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Liggon was born in Danville on August 20, 1935, a son of the late Berleigh W. Liggon and Cora Fuller Liggon.
He was married
to Else Tang Liggon who survives.
Mr. Liggon was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps for 11 years during the Korean War.
He was a graduate of Danville Community College in 1971 and worked as a pressman for Vanier Graphics in Eden, North Carolina from 1971-1996. He was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church.
Survivors in addition to his wife of the residence include one son: Robert J. Liggon of Danville, and one brother: Wayne M. Liggon of Danville, and one sister: Patricia Marie Rigsby of Danville, and one granddaughter, Amanda Kay Liggon of Danville.
The memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Ascension Lutheran Chruch by the Rev. Caldwell Day. A private interment will be at a later date at Mountain View cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 359 Surry Lane, and Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

SUFFOLK, Va. - Martha Louise Williams Motley, 88, of 3737 Arbor Road, Suffolk, died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth.
Born Feb. 8, 1913 in Danville, she was the daughter of George Luther Williams and Mary Hazelwood Williams.
She was married
to Jesse Motley, who predeceased her. She was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Danville.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Steve Motley of Suffolk and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at First Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Allen Dawson officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

George Myers
GRETNA, Va. - George Douglas Myers, age 84, of 406 Leftwich Street, Gretna died Sunday, March 4, 2001 in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 7, 1916 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Charlie Austin Myers and Arbelia Weeks Myers. Mr. Myers was predeceased by his wife Geneva Barbour Myers, 8 brothers and 7 sisters. He was a member of Greenbay Christian Church and a retired carpenter.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Edward & Ethel Myers of Danville; a sister, Frances Vasser of Gretna; three grandchildren, Darrell Myers and wife Beverly of Milton, NC, Mike Myers of Danville and Cheryl Marin of Sterling; 2 Great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. J.D. Hunt III and Rev. Woodrow Tuck. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

DANVILLE, Va. - Imogene Adkins Pittman, 73, of 564 Ingram Street, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born Dec. 27, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Clifton Adkins and Essie Adkins Adkins.
She was married
to Clyde Pittman, who predeceased her. She was a graduate of Stratford College and had been a patient at Riverside Nursing Home for 18 months. She was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include two cousins.
Funeral information is presently incomplete.
The family will be at the residence of her cousin, Thelma Scearce.

George Robertson
DANVILLE, Va. - George Washington Robertson, 77, of 633 Oakland Drive, Danville, died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at the residence after 15 years of declining health.
Born Feb 8, 1924 in the Axton community, he was the son of Silas G. Robertson and Denny Mills Robertson.
He was married
to Carrie Hobbs Robertson, who survives. He was born in the Axton community and had lived on Oakland Drive for two years. He worked for Evans Well Drilling for ten years and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Martha Lewis of Sutherlin, Lisa Bowes of Pelham, N.C., Tracy Oliver of Danville; three sons, Sager Robertson of the residence, Robert T. Robertson of Danville; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one son, Andy Robertson.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Pentecostal Fire-Baptized Holiness Church with the Rev. Steve Johson officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.
