Elmer Seamster
NATHALIE, Va. - Elmer Clay Seamster, 74, of 1133 Lake Conner Road, died March 4, 2001, at Woodiew Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 15, 1927, in Halifax County, he was the son of Louie A. Seamster and Laura C. Seamster.
He was married
to Thelma F. Seamster, who survives. He was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church.
Survivors in addition to his wife include, one son, Dwight Seamster of Alton; two daughters, Patty S. Lamberth and Debra S. Davis, both of South Boston; two brothers, Lenzy Seamster of Clover and Albert Seamster of Nathalie; one sister, Lillian Forlines of Georgia, and eleven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, David Seamster and Dempsey Seamster, and one sister, Louise Fears.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Providence Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Jones officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at 7-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence, 1133 Lake Conner Road.

Gary Soyars
DANVILLE, Va. - Gary Thomas Soyars, 40, of 3781 Mount Cross Road, Apt. No. 6, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at the residence after two years of declining health.
Born June 18, 1960, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Silas Grant Soyars Sr., who survives, and Stella Lee Parsons Soyars.
He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir and the Dan River Emmaus Community. He lived his entire life in the Westover community of Pittsylvania County and managed the Flower Gallery at Harris Teeter before his retirement due to disability. He had previously worked for many years at Keister's Market. He was a graduate of Tunstall High School.
In addition to his father of Ringgold, survivors include his step-mother, Mildred Haley Soyars of Ringgold; two brothers, Silas G. Soyars Jr. and Larry Joe Soyars, both of Danville and one sister, Brenda Soyars Neal of Danville; two step-spns, Lee Haley of Danville, and James Haley, Jr. of Ringgold, Va.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview United Methodist Church with the Rev. O.H. Burton Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Fairview United Methodist Church and at other times at the residence of Brenda S. Neal, 621 Loomfixer Lake Road, Danville.

Lucas Turman
DANVILLE, Va. - Lucas Glenn Turman, 66, of 330 Wrenn Drive, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after two years of declining health and two weeks in the hospital.
Born Nov. 10, 1934, in Carroll County, he was the son of Homer Miles Turman and Minnie M. Marshall Turman.
He was married
Aug. 1, 1961, to Annette Marie Evans Turman, who survives. He lived most of his life in Danville where he worked for Dan River Mills in the maintenance department of No. 3 Spin until his retirement. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Ronnie W. Gobble, Bennett A. Gobble and Glenn L. Turman, all of Danville; one daughter, Velvet D. Turman of Greenville, S.C.; one brother, John. M. Turman of Willis; two sisters, Margaret T. Matherly of Willis and Lois T. Rich of Danville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by a son, Kim S. Gobble and two brothers, Kenneth Turman and Artie C. Turman.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Revs. Roger Ewing and John Meadows officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Elmer Wright
DANVILLE, Va. - Elmer Thomas Wright, age 81, of 475 Church Avenue, died Monday morning March 5, 2001, at his residence after a decline in health since this past December.
Mr. Wright was born in Danville on April 13, 1919, a son of the late Isaac Grant Wright and Betty Ann Sigmon Wright.
He was married
to Minnie "Sue" Gregory Wright, who survives.
Mr. Wright was a veteran serving as a staff sergeant in Germany during World War II, in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Wright had made his home in Danville all of his life where he worked for Dan River, Inc., for 36 years before retiring at the age of 62. He attended Westover Hills United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Red Men.
Survivors in addition to his wife of the residence include one daughter: Patsy Sublett of Danville, and two sons: Jeff Thomas Wright of Danville and Grant Dean Wright of Ruffin, North Carolina and one sister: Pauline Proffitt of Newport News, and three grandchildren: Andrew Wright, Timothy Wright and Lea'Ann Samuels, and one great grandchild: Kamilla Samuels.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Charles Comer. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens where military honors will be performed by the American Legion Dan River Post #1097 Honor Gaurd. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 7:00-8:30 p.m., and at the residence in Westover Hills at other times.

Maynard Amos
CALLANDS, Va. - Maynard P. Amos age 83 of 1708 Cavalry Road Chatham, Virginia died Tuesday March 6, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Amos was born January 5, 1918 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He was the son of the late Jake A. Amos and Emma Ramsey Amos. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Eva Barbour Amos of the residence. He is also survived by one daughter Joan A. Reynolds and her husband Glen E. Reynolds of Chatham; one son, Joel M. Amso and his wife Ann B. Amso of Dry Fork; one sister, Frances A. Mitchell of Chatham; four grandchildren and their spouses, Joanne & Eric Young, Rebekah & James Owen, Daniel & Dawn Reynolds, and J. Craig Amos; two great grandchildren, Taylor Baird, and Brianna Baird; and his care giver, Cathy Tatum. He was a member of Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday March 8, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. from the Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church by Rev. Russell H. East, III and Rev. Roy Parker. Interment
will be in the Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church and at other times will be at the residence. Helen Bailey
DANVILLE, Va. - Helen Stephens Bailey, age 80, died Tuesday morning, March 6, 2001, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home, where she had been for four years.
Born on October 21, 1920 in Danville, VA, she was the daughter of the last Joseph White Stephens and Volinia Jordan Stephens.
She married
Thomas L. Bailey on February 26, 1941.
Mrs. Bailey lived most of her life in Danville, except for three years during W.W.II in Salinas, CA and after retirement part time in Florida and Smith Mountain Lake.
She attended Averett College. She was a long time active member of First Baptist Church in Danville and a past member of The Wednesday Club, Ladies Benevolent Society, Vesper Garden Club and Homemaker Club.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Walter L. Stephens, W. Sam Stephens, and George C. Stephens.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas L. Bailey of the home, a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas L. Bailey, Jr. and Donna C. Bailey of Columbus, Ohio and a grandson, Christopher T. Bailey of Columbus, Ohio.
There will be a private graveside Thursday morning in Highland Burial Park with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church by Dr. Joey Faucette.
The Family will receive friends on Wednesday night from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence, 142 Dublin Court.

Wiseman Bray
ALTAVISTA, Va. - Wiseman C. "Tex" Bray, age 76, of 2209 Beverly Heights, Altavista, died Monday afternoon March 5, 2001 at Lynchburg General Hospital after a two month decline in health and a two week stay at the hospital.
Mr. Bray was born in Danville on October 10, 1924, a son of the late Crawley E. Bray and Della Canady Bray.
He was married
to Elsie Burnette Bray who died on August 8, 1995.
Mr. Bray was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a corps engineer serving in Pacific during World War II.
Mr. Bray had spent most of his life in Danville where he worked for the city for 33 years, and was the fire chief for 23 years. He had been a member of Fairview United Methodist Church for 45 years, and was a member of Morotock Lodge No. 210 A.F. & A.M., and he was past president of the Kiwanis Club, past president of Westover Sertoma Club, past president of Danville United Way, and past president of State Fire Chiefs of Virginia. He was a co founder of the Virginia Fire Council.
Survivors include one daughter and son in law: Barbara Bray Pruitt and Stephen Pruitt of Altavista, and one son and daughter in law: Michael Wade Bray and Rebecca M. Bray of Cary, North Carolina, and one sister and brother in law: Frances Bray Inge and Woodrow Inge of Elon College, North Carolina, and three Grandchildren: John Stephen Pruitt, Sarah Virginia Bray and Katherine Ann Bray.
He was predeceased by one sister, Vera Bray Haden.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Norman Chattin, Rev. Kirby Smith, and Rev. Rick Clayton. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park where military honors will be performed by the American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M., and at other times will be at the residence of Hattie Saunders, at 1702 Blair Loop Road.

George Breznay
DANVILLE, Va. - George Andrew Breznay, 78, of 103 Knollwood Terrace, died March 7, 2001, at Danville, Regional Medical Center.
Born, July 16, 1922, he was the son of George Breznay and Mary Petrasek Breznay.
He was married
to Scholastica Stefaniake Breznay on Sept. 5, 1923. He lived in Mountain Top, Pa., prior to moving to Danville to live for the last six years. He retired from Champion International in Pisstone, Pa., where he worked as a warehouse supervisor. After his retirement he worked with the Luzerene County Department of Ageing. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Post 325. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors in addition to his wife include, two daughters, Ann Marie Breznay, wife of Paul A. Morgan., of Salt Lake City, Utah, Judith A Breznay, wife of L. Wayne Yeatts, of Danville,; two sisters, Mary B. Burick, of Mountain Top, Pa., Anna B. Yanulus, of Mountain Top, Pa.; one grandchild; three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Andrew Breznay, Thomas Breznay and one sister, Agnes Breznay.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with Military Honors by American Legion Post No. 325, with the Rev. Father Matthias Newell officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and at other times at the residence 103 Knollwood Terrace, Danville.

Irama Culver
TAMPA, Fla. - Irma Slayton Culver, 76, of 808 East Richmere Street, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Delta Health Care in Florida.
Born Oct. 25, 1924, she was the daughter of Otis Dillard Slayton and Annie Lou Roberts Slayton.
She was married
to Donald Culver who predeceases her. She lived most of her life in Tampa where she worked as a customer service representative in the grocery business. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra White of Tampa, Fla., Candace Carriera of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Joyce Camp of Huntsville, Ala.; Linda Walker, of Danville, Va.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, at Highland Burial Park with Mr. Lester Tate officiating.
Erby Dalton
KEELING, Va. - Erby Ferguson Dalton, 86, of 817 Mountain Lane, Keeling, died Monday, March 5, 2001 at the residence after five years of declining health.
Born March 1, 1915 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Daniel Robert Ferguson and Juliett Jennings Ferguson.
She was married
to Raleigh J. Dalton who predeceased her November 1966.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Compton of Keeling; one sister, Ruth Dalton of Keeling; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by a number of brothers and sisters.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Dalton Family cemetery with the Elder Julian Williams officiating.
The family will be receiving friends at the residence.
