VINTON, Va. - Patricia Lynn Tuck Newman, 41, of 1219 Ruddell Road, Vinton, died Thursday, March 8, 2001 at the residence.
Born Dec. 17, 1959 in Charleston, S.C., she was the daughter of J.T. Tuck and Betty Parker Tuck, who survive.
She was married
to Roger Newman, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to her parents of Penhook and husband of the residence, include three sons, Jeffery Moore of Ringgold, Jessie Moore of Salem, James Moore of Gretna; a daughter, Renee Moore of Vinton; a brother, Timmy Tuck of Penhook; a sister, Marie Adkins of Penhook; paternal grandmother, Elsie Tuck of Penhook and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Colbert-Moran Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Grinnell officiating. Interment
will follow at Greenpond Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of her parents, 856 Armstrong Road, Penhook.

James Reynolds Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - James Clarence Reynolds Sr., 78, of 231 South Ridge Street, Heritage Towers, Apt. No. 308, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001 upon arrival at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 21, 1922 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Bernie Clarence Reynolds and Lula Hagood Reynolds.
He was married
April 6, 1946 to Ruby Allen Reynolds, who survives.
He was a veteran of the United States Army during WWII, serving in the European Theater. He lived at 600 Ingram Street for 30 years before moving to Heritage Towers. He worked for Dan River Inc. for 39 years before his retirement in 1985. He was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Dan River retired workers club and the Senior Citizens Fellowship.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one son, James Clarence Reynolds Jr. of Axton; one sister, Bernice Reynolds Harper of Danville and one grandson.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Allen Dawson officiating. Military honors will be performed by the American Legion Dan River Post No. 1097 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of James C. Reynolds Jr., 1175 Mountain Valley Road, Axton.

Edward Smith
CHATHAM, Va. - Edward I. "Smitty" Smith, 90, of 870 North Main St., Chatham, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001 at the residence.
Born Aug. 10, 1910 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Isaac Smith and Lucie Wooding Smith.
He was married
to Myrtle Faye Smith, who predeceased him. He owned and operated Travelers Inn and was also employed by Howerton Funeral Home. He was a member of Corinth Christian Church where he served on the Trustee Board.
He was the last survivor of his generation.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Corinth Christian Church with the Rev. Garry N. Page officiating. Interment
will follow at the Smith Family cemetery in Chatham. Viewing will be held 2-7 p.m. Sunday at Howerton Funeral Home chapel.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Phyllis Hunt, North Main Street, Chatham.

Irma Taylor
DANVILLE, Va. - Irma Soyars Taylor, formerly of Westover Drive, Danville, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Riverside Health Care.
Born February 12, 1912, she was the daughter of Henry Jackson and Nannie Sheila Soyars.
She was the loving wife of James Otis Taylor, who predeceased her on February 14, 1975. Mrs. Taylor was also predeceased by seven brothers, Desmond, Carson, Leonard, Robert, Andrew, Raymond, and Eslie Soyars. In addition, she was predeceased by a grandson, Troy Lane Jones.
She lived her entire life in Pittsylvania County, and was a member of Providence Methodist Church which is now merged with Brosville Methodist Church.
Survivors include four daughters and four son-in-laws, Margarette and Archie Covington, MaryAnne and Jake Gregory, Jewell and Bobby Demont and Vickie and Ronnie Thornton. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Jimmy Reece, Wayne Reece, Gail Alvis, Ricky Reece, Ray Hamlett, Curtis Hamlett, David Jones, Jr., Bill Hinton Jr., Andy Demont, Bobby Demont, Any Younger, Kelli Thompson and Sara Thornton. In addition, she is survived by twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 7:00-8:30 pm at Wrenn Yeatts-N. Main Chapel and at other time at the residence of Vickie Thornton, 505 Jacob Place, Danville. The funeral will be held on Sunday, 2 pm at Wrenn-Yeatts N. Main Chapel with her grandson, Pastor Wayne Reece officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
May Dalton
GRETNA, Va. - May Belle Dalton, 85, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born May 26, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Sam David Dalton and Ida Pickeral Dalton. She was a member of Springfield Primitive Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include one sister, Eunice D. Simpson of Gretna.
She was predeceased by one sister and five brothers, Sallie Dalton, Raymond Dalton, Ollie Dalton, Giles Dalton, Lonnie Dalton and Martin Dalton.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Colbert-Moran Chapel with Elder Marvin Brumfield and Elder Raymond Goad officiating. Interment
will follow at Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Tuesday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

Scottsburg, Va. - Edna Jennings, 54, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Survivors include one sister, Shirley Hill of Strafford, Va., and one brother, Ray Watkins of Roanoke, Va.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Monday at St. James Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Va., with the Revs. Byrd Blackwell and Ronald Claiborne officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetary.

Lacy Jennings
LONG ISLAND, Va. - Mr. Lacy Andrew Jennings, age 76, of 3180 Buffalo Road, Long Island, Va. died Monday night (03-12-01) in the Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born in Halifax County, December 2, 1924, he was a son of the late Goldie Edward Jennings and Homie Pannell Jennings. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Hazel J. Waller.
He was a retired employee of the Lynchburg Foundry Company and was a member of the First Buffalo Baptist Church, where he served as adult Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the Trustee Board, Church Treasurer and the Senior Choir.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Roberta Coleman Jennings of the residence; one daughter, Dr. Juliet C. Jennings of Danville, Va.; one brother, Dossie E. Jennings of Maryland; his step-mother, Mrs. Sylvia S. Jennings of Long Island, Va.; one aunt, Margaret Lynch of Lynchburg, Va.; one brother-in-law, Franklin P. Waller of GLadys, Va. and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday (03-17-01) at 1 p.m. from the First Buffalo Baptist Church, Long Island, Va. by the Rev. Samuel Mitchell and Rev. Samuel Terry with burial in the Church cemetery. The family is at the residence.

CHATHAM, Va. - Berman J. Adkins, 83, of 2320 Burton Lane Road, Chatham, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 7, 1917 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Harvey James Adkins and Genie Haskins Adkins.
He was married
to Virginia Walker Adkins who survives. He worked as a farmer until his retirement and was a World War II veteran.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one brother, E.T. Adkins.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Scott Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John McCray officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park in Danville.

Joseph Allen
DANVILLE, Va. - Joseph Lester Allen, 82, of 133 Flint Street, Danville, died Monday, March 12, 2001 at the Lexington Court Nursing Home in Richmond.
Born May 5, 1918 in Reidsville, N.C., he was the son of Richard and Laura Allen.
He was married
to Sadie Poteat Allen, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Joseph Edward Allen of San Diego, Calif., Mark Allen of Sheltenham, Md.; three daughters, Nancy Allen of Durham, N.C., Cynthia Allen Medley of Danville and Janice Allen of Danville.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one son, Samuel E. Allen and two brothers, Dan Allen and Arthur Allen.

Harold Bane Sr.
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Harold Lewis Bane Sr., 78, of 2205 Willow Street, South Boston, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at the residence.
Born Nov. 29, 1922 in South Boston, he was the son of Wesley Daniel Bane and Ida Thomas Bane.
He was married
to Margaret W. Bane, who survives. He worked for U.S. Oil Co. until his retirement and was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one son, Harold Lewis Bane Jr. of South Boston; one sister, Dora B. Coates of South Boston; three brothers, Albert Bane and Elvin Bane, both of South Boston, Melvin Bane of Scottsburg; one sister, Mary Sue Lindsey of Fort Worth, Texas and three grandchildren.
The graveside service was held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Ridge cemetery with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating.

DANVILLE, Va. - Glen Alvin Brandon, 43, of The Adult Group Home, 506 Middle Street, Danville, died Monday, March 12, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 12, 1957 in Danville, he was the son of James Costello Brandon who predeceased him and Helen Gunn Brandon, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include two sisters, Judy Davis of Danville, Selena Bethel of Brooklyn, N.Y. and four brothers, James C. Brandon, Jr and Marvin E. Brandon, both of East Orange, N.J., Earl E. Brandon and Mitchell L. Brandon, both of Danville.

will follow at Floral Hills Memory Garden cemetery.
