Matilda Brummett
DANVILLE, Va. - Matilda Keatts Brummett, 68, of 605 Elizabeth Street, died Monday, March 12, 2001 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Born Oct. 15, 1932 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of David Thomas Keatts and Callie Moorefield Keatts.
She was married
to Freeman R. Brummett, who survives. She spent most of her life in Danville and was a member of Full Gospel Fellowship Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three sons, Darryl Brummett of Danville, Steve Brummett of Ringgold, Victor Brummett of Danville; one daughter, Dianne Davis of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Elmer Keatts and Lewis Keatts, both of Rocky Mount; two sisters, Ruth Woodson of Ruffin, N.C., Nancy Owen of Danville and six grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by two sons, Randy Brummett, Donnie Brummett; four brothers, David Keatts, Landon Keatts, Clay Keatts, Charlie Keatts and three sisters, Cynthia Hill, Eva McDaniel and Annie Brooks.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Ewing officiating. Interment
will follow at Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Mildred Dodd
DANVILLE, Va. - Mildred Louise Dodd, 78, of 1501 Washington Street, Danville, died Sunday, March 11, 2001 at 11:20 p.m. at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born June 21, 1922 in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of Samuel Oliver Dodd and Laura Eggleston Dodd, both deceased.
She was born in Pittsylvania County, Va., but lived in Danville most of her life. She experienced a decline in health for 14 years and was a resident in Roman Eagle Memorial Home for 3 months. She worked for Disston Inc. for 26 years and retired at the age of 62. She was a member of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Anne Dodd Burnette of Danville, Va.; 5 grandsons, Donald A. Burnette Jr., Frank O. Burnette, John W. Burnette, H. James Burnette and Terrence D. Burnette; 1 granddaughter, Janice A. Jones; 1 son-in-law, Donald A. Burnette Sr.; 2 great-granddaughters and 2 great-grandsons.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one sister, Mary Dodd Southard and one great-granddaughter.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at Highland Burial Park with the Revs. Paul Johnson and Adolf Otersen officiating. Burial will take place at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 13 from 7-9 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Raymond Francisco
SCOTTSBURG, Va. - Raymond Hagood "Honey" Francisco, 67, of 5100 Bethel Road, Scottsburg, died Monday, March 12, 2001 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Jan. 14, 1934 in Halifax County, he was the son of Edward J. Francisco and Eva Frenchie Franklin Francisco.
He was married
to Betty Owen Francisco who survives. He was a member and former deacon at Bethel Baptist Church and was a member of the Masonic French Lodge No. 270, Liberty.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one son, Kevin Francisco of Fort Polk, La.; two daughters, Kimberly F. Newby of South Boston, Karen Yeaman of Hampton; five grandchildren; two brothers, Harry Francisco of Richmond, Ronnie Francisco of Scottsburg and five sisters, Louise Fallen of Rice, Ruby Williams of Scottsburg, Margaret Bowman of Chesterfield, Rebecca Hodges of Richmond and Peggy Press of Chesterfield.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Brooks officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery with Masonic rites.

Lester Mayhew
DANVILLE, Va. - Lester Herbert Mayhew, 56, of 325 Lindhurst Drive, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born Oct. 26, 1944 in Person County, N.C., he was the son of Hilton Herbert Mayhew and Irene Davis Mayhew.
He lived most of his life in Danville and worked as a bookkeeper for Northmont Exxon before his retirement due to disability. He was a member and former deacon of Riverview Baptist Church and graduated from G.W. High School. He attended V.P.I. Extension in Danville and served as a coach, board member and treasurer for the Danville Little League Program. Although his health forced him to become inactive in the Little League Program, he continued to watch games from his car whenever possible.
Survivors include two sons, Lester “Les” Herbert Mayhew Jr. of Clemmons, N.C., Bryan Keith Mayhew of Danville; two sisters, Helen M. Barnett of Danville, Reba M. Tyree of Forest and three grandsons.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one sister, Shelba M. Cook.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Duane Blevins officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will be receiving friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Helen Barnett, 304 Jeanette Drive.

Lilla Motley
CHATHAM, Va. - Lilla Mae Moon Motley, 86, of 21332 U.S. Highway 29 North, Chatham, died Monday March 12, 2001 at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born June 21, 1914 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Jippie Thomas Moon and Virginia May Oakes Moon.
She was married
to John Averett Motley, who predeceased her. She was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, John Wilfred Motley and Norman Thomas Motley, both of Chatham; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Grove Christian Church with Frank Fuller, Minister, and the Revs. Kyle Flora and Jon Reed officiating. Interment
will follow at the Oak Grove Christian Church cemetery in Chatham.

Midge Thompson
RINGGOLD, Va. - Mildred "Midge" Gauldin Thompson, 57, of 260 Old Oak Trail, died sunday, March 11, 2001, at her residence.
Born September 2, 1943, in Danville, she was a daughter of Luther William Gauldin and Florence Richardson Gauldin, who survives.
Mrs. Thompson had lived in Dallas, Texas, prior to moving back to Ringgold. She worked for the former Disston corporation prior to becoming a waitress for several local Restaurants having last worked at Cheryl's Resturant. She was of the Christian faith.
In addition to her mother, survivors include one daughter, Tammy Marie Atkins; three sisters, Elizabeth Elaine Gauldin, Lois A. McCausey and Kathy G. Carter; one grandson William Honor Atkins, all of Ringgold, Va.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. William G. Mizelle officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday night, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence, 260 Old Oak Trail in the Mountain Hill Community of Ringgold, Va.

Melvin Wilson
RICHMOND, Va. - Deacon Melvin Wilson of 1001 Woodhaven Drive, Richmond, died Sunday, March 11, 2001.
He was married
to Lillian Parrish Wilson, who predeceased him.
Survivors include one son, Melvin Lee Wilson; one sister, Nannie W. Smith and five brothers, James Wilson, Omie Wilson, Robert Wilson, John L. Wilson and David Wilson.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sixth Baptist Church, 400 South Addison Street, Richmond with Dr. Yvonne Bibbs officiating. Interment
will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Lou Vernie C. Thomas
DANVILLE, Va. - Lou Vernie C. Thomas, 88, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, March 13, 2001, from her residence.
Born July 27, 1912, in Washington County, Va., she was a daughter of William Milton and Emma Frances Cumbo who predeceased her.
She was married
to Arthur Isiah Thomas on Dec. 13, 1929 and he predeceased her on June 2, 1988.
She had one daughter, Ruby Mae Thomas Jolly, who predeceased her on May 28, 1995.
Survivors are three granddaughters and spouses; Kawania & Carlos Arenas of Harrisonburg, Va., Kathy & Danny Williamson and Gale & Frankie Durham of Danville, Va. Also one son-in-law; Louis D. Jolly of Danville, Va. She is survived by ten Great-Grandchildren and four Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters; Pauline Groseclose and Ann Ewing of Danville and two brothers; The Rev. Sherman Cumbo of Danville and Horace Cumbo of Alexandria, Va.
She retired from Danville Memorial Hospital and worked as a sitter for many years.
She was a charter member of Full Gospel Fellowship Church, where she served on the Mission Board.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 16, 2 p.m. at Full Gospel Fellowship Church by the Rev. Roger Ewing, the Rev. Cabel Cobbs and the Rev. Frankie Durham. Interment
will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church, Thursday, 7-8:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence, 826 Stokesland Avenue.

Jannie Millner
DANVILLE, Va. - Jannie Bell Millner, 84, formerly of Peaceful Lane, Cascade, Virginia, died Monday, March 12, 2001 at the Ashwood Home for Adults in Danville, Virginia.
She was born November 19, 1916 in Pittsylvania County, a daughter of the late William Bruce Millner and the late Rozena Inge Millner. She was the step-daughter of the late Sally Millner. She was employed for many years as a Clerk-Typist and Accountant for the Piedmont Geriatric Hospital in Burkeville, Virginia where she received several commendations as an honor employee and was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by three step-brothers, David C. Millner of Salem, Va., Mosey Millner of Martinsville, Virginia and Dornal Millner of Augusta, Ga., three step-sisters, Odella M. Hairston of Martinsville, Va., Marry L. Law of Cascade, Va. and Etrulia M. Headrick of Chalfonp, Pa., a devoted caretaker, Verna L. Smith of Cascade, Va. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by one brother, William B. Millner, Jr.
Graveside services for Ms. Jannie Bell Millner will be conducted on Friday, March 16, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. from Danville Memorial Gardens with Rev. Dr. John W. Tinsley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

Buddy Carter
SALEM, Va. - Buddy L. Carter, 64, of 22 Southern Street, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem after four years of declining health and three months in the hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1937 in Axton, he was the son of Walter Irvin Carter and Lois Love Inman Gregory, who survives.
He was married
to Margaret Board Carter, who predeceased him. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and attended Brosville High School. He worked for Walter Irvin Carter Sinclair service station for a number of years and was a member of Bethleham Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of Providence, N.C., include three half-sisters, Nancy Pritchett, Paula DeMott and JoAnn Slayton, all of Providence, N.C.; two half-brothers, Dennis Gregory of Providence, N.C. and Gary Gregory of Danville.
He was predeceased, in addition to his father and wife, by a brother, Jimmy Carter.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Carter Family cemetery at Brosville with the Rev. J.B. Baldridge officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Lucille Richardson, Sugartree Church Road at Brosville.
