BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Willie Grays Jr., 48, of Brooklyn, died Sunday, March 11, 2001.
Born July 26, 1952 in Danville, Va., he was the son of Willie Grays and Elizabeth Grays.
He was married
to Corrine Grays, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of Brooklyn, include two sons, Lance Grays and Douglas Gumbs, both of Brooklyn; two daughters, Tysha G. Davis and Tiffany Gumbs, both of Brooklyn; one brother, Vincent Grays of Danville, Va.; three sisters, Deborah Grays of Washington, D.C., Ann Stills of Westchester; Karen Grays of Montgomery, Ala. and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at L.H. Brooks and Brothers Funeral Home with Minister Dorothy Glass officiating. Interment
will follow at Oak Hill cemetery. Viewing will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Frances Morris
PALM BAY, Fla. - Frances Agnes Fulton Morris, 72, of 281 Brandt Ave., Palm Bay, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at Huntington Nursing Home in Daytona Beach.
Born April 12, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of Charles Smith Fulton and Emerson Astin Fulton. She was of the Methodist faith and attended Hickory Grove Methodist Church in Charlotte, N.C. She was an amateur potter and ceramics maker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In 1996, she moved to central Florida from Charlotte, N.C., and worked as a bookkeeper for McLean Pediatrics in Charlotte, N.C., until her retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Morris and Steven Morris, both of Palm Bay; one sister, Martha F. Ferrell of Sun City Center and one grandchild.
The graveside service will be held 3 p.m. at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Wayne Crews officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Lucille Astin, 4241 Mount Cross Road, Danville, Va.

Sue Phillippi
DANVILLE, Va. - Linda Sue Woodson Phillippi, 49, of 6061 Kendrige Circle, Danville, died suddenly Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at Duke Medical Center after a two week stay in the hospital.
Born July 10, 1951, she was the daughter of George Washington Woodson and Elizabeth McKinney Woodson.
She was married
July 30, 1976 to Everett Wally Phillippi, who survives. She had lived all her life in Pittsylvania County and was a graduate of Chatham High School. She worked for Burlington Industries in Reidsville, N.C., as a weaver.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Jason E. Phillippi of Danville, Jermey R. Phillippi of Chatham; one brother, David Woodson of Peham, N.C.; six sisters, Faye W. Mackiewicz, Brenda W. Breeden and Pat W. Green, all of Danville, Frances W. Redd of Blairs, Mildred W. Reynolds of Chatham, Jean W. Swider of Crown Point, Ind., and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Billy Scearce officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Rodger Richardson
DANVILLE, Va. - Rodger Roy Richardson, 79, of 141 Easy Run Road, Danville, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at the residence after two months of declining health.
Born Feb. 7, 1922 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Ernest Richardson and Lula Yeatts Richardson.
He was married
on Oct. 2, 1948 to Pauline Dalton Richardson, who survives. Mr. Richardson had lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County in the Mount Hermon Community. He had worked for the Coca-Cola Company as a Fork Lift Driver and Truck Checker until his retirement after 35 years of service. Mr. Richardson was of the Methodist Faith. He served with U.S. Army during W.W. II where he was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, the Asistic-Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one daughter, Gayle Dalton Sadler of Danville; one son-in-law, Mickey Sadler of Danville; five sisters, Gladys R. Keller, Edna R. Powell, Doris R. Richardson and Beatrice R. Richardson, all of Danville, Elva "Boots" R. Clark of Ringgold; three grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Roberts, Christopher Dean McDowell and Jessica Megan Sadler.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. Wayne Prilliman officiating. Interment
will take place at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with Military Honors by American Legion Post 1097.

Clayton W. Roberts
DANVILLE, Va. - Clayton Wayne "Scooby" Roberts, 51, of 253 Grenadier Circle, Danville, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at the residence after a year of declining health.
Born Jan. 2, 1950 in Mount Arey, N.C., he was the son of Warren A. Roberts, who survives, and Nina Marie Bryant Roberts.
He was married
to Carolyn Bradshaw Roberts, who survives. He lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and graduated from Dan River High School in 1969. He attended Danville Community College and worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. until his retirement due to health reasons. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church where he was a member of Koinonia Sunday School Class and the Dan River Emmaus Community. He was a long-time member of the Antique Automobile Club of America.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence and father of Danville, include one daughter, Brittany Marie Roberts of the residence; step-mother, Anna Lee S. Roberts of Danville and two brothers, Larry W. Roberts and Gregory P. Roberts, both of Danville.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Fairview United Methodist Church with the Rev. O.H. Burton Jr. officiating.
The family will be receiving friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Fairview United Methodist Church and at other times at the residence.

Alma Sasser
DANVILLE, Va. - Alma Gilbert Sasser, 76, of 433 Gilbert Drive, Danville, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C. after 3 1/2 months of declining health.
Born Jan. 27, 1925 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of James B. Gilbert and Hattie B. Gilbert.
She was married
Dec. 11, 1943 to Franklin Miller Sasser Sr., who predeceased her April 4, 1999. She lived in Yorktown until 1980 when she moved back to Danville. She was a homemaker and participated in charity work at the V.A. Hospital in Hampton. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 647 where she served as quartermaster for many years. She was also a member of Grafton Baptist Church in Grafton.
Survivors include one son, Frank Sasser of Greensboro, N.C.; three brothers, Chase Gilbert of Collinsville, John M. Gilbert of Ringgold, Nelson Gilbert of Wheaton, Md., and one sister, Ruth G. Doss of Danville and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by three sisters, Doris Barksdale, Emily Burton, Erma Hutchins and one brother, J.B. Gilbert.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Blanche Pollard officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Mary Smith
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Louise Smith of 106 Darby Road, Danville, died Monday, March 12, 2001 at the residence.
Born June 30, 1944 in Columbia, S.C., she was the daughter of Willie Hardrick and Beatha Chisholm Hardrick.
She was married
to James Smith, who survives. She worked for Laramore Construction Company before a decline in health.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four sons, Robin Hardrick, James Hardrick III, Tyron Smith and Maurice Smith, all of Danville; three daughters, Clara Smith and Sheila Hairston, both of Danville and Vicky Harris of Martinsville.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thomas R. Brooks officiating. Interment
will follow at Oak Hill cemetery.

Dalton Stewart
DANVILLE, Va. - Dalton Neal Stewart, 69, of 621 Main Street, Danville, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born June 16, 1931 in Quanah, Texas, he was the son of St. Elmo Stewart and Annie Neal Stewart.
He lived in Danville for the past four years and worked as a painter. He lived in Maryland for a number of years and was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of Nor Dan Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Dal Stewart of Hampton, Henry N. Stewart of Texas; three daughters, Paula Jean, Doris Cheek and Cynthia Ann, all of Texas; one sister, Dahlia Money of California; three brothers, Gary Stewart, Jack Stewart and Duane Stewart, all of Texas; eight grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The memorial will be held at a later date.

Dillard Robinson
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Dillard Monroe Robinson, 90, of 1201 Spruce Streed, Spruce Village, Martinsville, died Thursday, March 14, 2001 at Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville.
Born Jan. 15, 1911 in Morganton, N.C., he was the son of Monroe Jackson Robinson and Bessie Pruitt Robinson.
He was married
to Ruby Shumate Robinson, who survives. He worked for Dan River Inc. as a welder for 40 years until his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Army Medical Corp serving in World War II and was a member of Martinsville Church of God.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter, Patti R. Jordan of Martinsville; two sons, Rudy L. Robinson of Brosville, Richard M. Robinson of Providence, N.C.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by five brothers and four sisters.
The funeral will take place 8 p.m. Friday at Norris Funeral Service Chapel with the Revs. Jackie Poe and Jimmy Wood officiating. Interment
will take place 11 a.m. Saturday at Danville Memorial Gardens, Danville.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8 p.m. Friday at Norris Funeral Services and at other times at the residence of Patti Jordan, 104 Gatewood Road, Martinsville.

William Royster Sr.
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - WIlliam Stephen Royster Sr, 84, of 621 Berry Hill Road, South Boston, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at Berry Hill Nursing Home.
Born March 28, 1916 in Kenbridge, he was married
to Hazel Hundley Royster, who predeceased him. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a charter member of Cluster Springs Ruritan Club and charter member of Cluster Springs Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Faulkner Memorial Masonic Lodge No. 91 A.F. and A.M. (1943), Halifax Royal Arch Chapter No. 38 (1944), Danville Scottish Rite (1946), Acca Temple Shrine (1946) and Henry W. Woodall Chapter 80 Eastern Star (1993). He was a member of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon, treasurer and trustee.
Survivors include two sons, W.S. "Billy" Royster Jr. of Halifax, C. "Eddie" Royster of Fredericksburg and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Grover Stevens officiating. Interment
will take place at Oak Ridge cemetery in South Boston.

Harold Whitlow
DANVILLE, Va. - Harold Martin Whitlow, 86, of 436 Northmont Boulevard, Danville, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at Veteran's Hospital, Durham, N.C., after several years of declining health and two weeks in the hospital.
Born Aug. 16, 1914 in Leasburg Community of Caswell County, he was the son of Robert Norwood Whitlow and Ruth Caroline Stephens Whitlow.
He was married
Aug. 1958 to Doris Marie Smith Whitlow, who survives. He lived most of his life in Caswell County and Danville. He worked for Saunders Building Supply as a carpenter and cabinet maker for over 30 years until his retirement. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 647. He was the great-great-grandson of Revolutionary War soldier Solomon Whitlow Sr. He served with the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one brother, Stanley Dorsett Whitlow of Leasburg, N.C.; two sisters, Jeannine Dare Whitlow of Leasburg, N.C. and Elizabeth W. Price of Orangeburg, S.C.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by four sisters, Eudora W. Maxwell, Ruth W. Kelley, Evelyn W. Greenfield, Marion W. Abbott and four brothers, James R. Whitlow, John E. Whitlow, Ralph W. Whitlow and W. Carlton Whitlow.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Levi Stroud Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow at Leasburg Community cemetery.
