Alice Wilson
DANVILLE, Va. - Alice Britton Wilson, 96, of 1111 Main St., Danville, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at the Stratford House.
Born July 8, 1904 in Blacksburg, she was the daughter of John Alexander Britton and Alla Harrison Britton.
She was married
to Hosea E. Wilson, who predeceased her Sept. 2, 1978.
She was educated at Chatham Hall and Farmville State Teachers College and lived most of her life in Danville. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany where she served on the Altar Guild. She was a former active member of the Wednesday Club, the Garden Club of Danville, the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History and a former tutor for the Literacy Program.
Survivors include a son, Hosea E. Wilson Jr. of Danville; a daughter, Eugenia W. Collins of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Mary B. Orms of Blackstone; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by a brother, John A. Britton Jr.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View cemetery with the Rev. James W. Mathieson officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the Evergreen Room at the Stratford House, 1111 Main Street, Danville and at other times at the residence of Hosea E. Wilson Jr., 351 Hawthorne Drive, Danville.

Robert Bailey
DANVILLE, Va. - Robert Linwood Bailey, 81, of 1519 Claiborne Street, Danville, died Friday, March 16, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Born Oct. 23, 1919 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Charlie William Bailey and Hattie Haygood Bailey.
He was married
to Katherine Gregory Bailey, who predeceased him. He worked for Dixie Auto Supply as a machinist until his retirement and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Penny Bailey of Danville, Lynne Bailey of Leasburg, N.C., Beth B. East of Chatham; two sisters, Janie B. Lumpkin of Danville, Ellen B. Crutchfield of Virginia Beach and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Freddy Vicks officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park with Graveside Military honors performed by American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard.
The family will be receiving friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel and at other times at the residence of his daughter, 543 Ingram Street.

Golden Brummett
DANVILLE, Va. - Golden Gray Brummett, 90, formerly of 180 Lamberth Drive, Danville, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born May 14, 1910 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Edmond F. Gray and Caroline Handy Gray.
She was married
to Paul W. Brummett, who predeceased her July 12, 1977. She lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County and had lived at Pinecrest Adult Home since April 1997. She worked at Dan River Mills until her retirement and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Rachel Griffin of Mentone, Ala., Nancy Nelson of Durham, N.C.; three sons, Ernest Brummett, James Brummett and David Brummett, all of Danville; one sister, Lucy Bowles of Dry Fork; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Daniel Lackey officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Bonnie Goins, 651 Edgewood Drive, Danville.

Marjorie Eubanks
DRAKES BRANCH, Va. - Marjorie Beatrice Hodge Eubanks, 83, of Drakes Branch, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 in Farmville.
Survivors include five sons, Roscoe Eubanks Sr. and Hezekiah Eubanks, both of Drakes Branch, Leroy Eubanks of Clover, Isaac Eubanks of Petersburg, Kermit Eubanks of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five daughters, Edwina Eubanks, Mable Scott and Mary Brown, all of Danville, Charlotte Davis and Sylvia Fertig, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 29 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Gethsemane Presbyterian Church in Drakes Branch. Interment
will follow at St. Michael Baptist Church cemetery. Viewing will be held 11 a.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Jeffress Funeral Home in Charlotte Court House.

Odell Hall
GRETNA, Va. - Odell Hall, 71, of 415 Chaney Lane, Gretna, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at the residence.
Born March 30, 1929 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Ham Hall and Lillie Shelton Hall.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. He worked as a carpenter until his retirement and was a member of the Elba Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Sarah Still of Gretna; one step-daughter, Virginia Kitchen of Danville and one step-son, Kenneth Kitchen of Altavista.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by two sisters, Sallie Younger and Agnes Dottson and four brothers, Harold Hall, Hampton Hall, Andrew Hall and Herman Hall.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elba Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. B.I. Baize and Elder Lorenza Hall officiating. Interment
will follow at Elba cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends at the residence of Sarah Still, 605 Virginia Street, Gretna.

Tate Brown
DANVILLE, Va. - Tate Harvey Brown died Sunday, March 18, 2001.
He was a retired textile executive and founder of Medical Textiles Inc.
Survivors include his wife of seventy-one years, Thursey Hudgens; three daughters, Bertha Harper of Bracey, Dorothy Hodges of Richmond and Peggy Allen of Scottsburg; two sons, Paul of South Hill and Merrill of Canada; three brothers, James of Birmingham, Ala., Odis of Jacksonville, Fla., and Willie of Anniston Ala.; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one son, Gordon, of Colorado Springs, Colo.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crestview Memorial Park, South Hill, Va.

Carl Brumfield
GRETNA, Va. - Carl Terry Brumfield, 35, died Sunday March 18, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 31, 1965, in Danville, he was a son of Linda Jefferson Brumfield of Gretna and Joe and Kathy Brumfield of Gretna. He was a member of Summersett Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Joey Brumfield Jr. of Gretna.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Colbert Moran Chapel with the Revs. Bert Johnson and James Tallent officiating. Interment
will follow in the Russ Dalton Family cemetery.

DANVILLE, Va. - Allen W. Hall, 70, of 114 Seventh Street, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born July 4, 1930 in Danville, he was the son of Harry N. Hall and Pearl Strader Hall.
He was married
to Elois W. Hall, who survives. He was a self-employed contractor and a member of Loyal Baptist Church where he was trustee, a member of the usher board and Bell Thomas Missionary Circle and Mattoca Bible Class. He was also a member of Murdock Masonic Lodge No. 163, Mt. Nebo Holy Royal Arch Mason No. 35, 32 Mason of Reidsville Consutory No. 224, Christopher Attuck Commondery No. 18, KuWat Temple No. 126, Shriner of Reidsville and Friendship Club.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Michael Allen Hall of Rochester, Mich., Jeffery Lyle Hall of Laurel, Md., Rodger Steven Hall of Danville; one daughter, Deborah Diane Jones of Danville; two sisters, Eubeliah Hairston of Baltimore, Md., Evelyn Hemphill of Bridgeport, Conn.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Loyal Baptist Church with the Rev. Lovelle A. Maxwell Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow with Masonic Rites at Floral Hills Memory Garden. Viewing will be held 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home.

DANVILLE, Va. - Pearl Hopkins Lane, 86, formerly of 319 Arlington Place, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, where she has been a resident since December 1991.
Born May 11, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of John Willie Hopkins and Henrietta Morrison Hopkins.
She was married
to William H. Lane, who died June 17, 1989. She made her home in Danville where she was an inspector for Dan River Inc. for 45 years, and was a member of Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include one brother, W. Paul Hopkins of Athens, Ga.; one step-daughter, Ann L. Wilmoth of Danville, two step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Russell Hopkins, Otis Hopkins and Andrew Hopkins; and three sisters, Hallie Hayes, Katherine Hopkins and Bernice Arthur.
A funeral will be held 11 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Pressley officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

HYATTESVILLE, Md. - Madison Logan, 72, of 9332 Lynmont Drive, Hyattesville, formerly of Penhook, Va., died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at the Washington Hospital Center.
Born July 7, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Millard Logan and Quenie Bender Logan.
He was married
to Marion Logan, who predeceased him. He worked for D & S Company until his retirement.
Survivors include four sons, James Logan, Moses Logan, Walter Logan, George Logan; one brother, Obie Logan; two sisters, Christine Dawkins, Hilda Harris; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Viewing and interment will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Logan Family cemetery.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Evelyn Crouch Lovell, 76, of 840 Hundley Street, died Sunday March 18, 2001, at the residence.
Born October 3, 1924, in Kernsville, N.C., she was a daughter of Mayfield Harley Crouch and Lillian Newell Crouch. She was married
to James Garland Lovell. She was a member of Starling Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to her husband include one daughter, Carole Lovell Webb, of Ridgeway; three sons, Robert Garland Lovell of Martinsville, Va., Christopher J. Lovell, of Danville, Va., and Jeffrey L. Lovell, of Martinsville, Va.; two brothers, John R. Crouch of Martinsville, Donald L. Crouch of Martinsville, Va.; six grandcildren; one great-grandchild,; three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one brother, Milton Crouch, and one sister, Thelma C. Slayton.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Norris Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Robertson officiating. Interement will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
