Paul Dodd
DRY FORK, Va. - Paul Douglas Dodd, 87, of 7380 Dry Fork Road, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Riverside Health Care Center after a period of declining health.
He was born October 7, 1913. He was the son of Silas J. Dodd and Lillie Blair Dodd, both deceased.
He was married
to Virginia Payne Dodd, who died January, 13, 1983.
Mr. Dodd had lived his entire life in Pittsylvania County and was a successful farmer. He also had worked for Disston, Inc. He attended the Whitmell United Methodist Church.
Survivors include, four sisters, Janie Dodd Raines, of Dry Fork, Frances Raines of Danville, Arlene Mills, of Dry Fork, and Pattie Walton of Sandy Hook, Va.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Clara Collins and Anna Raines and three brothers, Silas Dodd, Reginald Dodd and Bobby Dodd.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, with the Rev. Wayne Crews officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and at other times at the residence, 7380 Dry Fork Road, Dry Fork, Va.

Eula Dyer
DANVILLE, Va. - Eula Brame Dyer, 90, of 1422 Washington Street, Danville, died Thursday, March 22, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center after ten years of declining health and nine days in the hospital.
Born Oct. 17, 1910, she was the daughter of Sam Buck Brame and Flora Mitchell Brame.
She was married
Dec. 24, 1930 to Robert Lee Dyer, who predeceased her Aug. 26, 1998. She was a member of Matrimony Primitive Baptist Church in Rockingham County, N.C., where she lived until moving to Danville in 1931. She was a homemaker and worked as a seamstress.
Survivors include one daughter, Nellie D. Harville of Danville; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one brother, Hester L. Brame.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park with Elder Paul Clark officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Basil F. Farson
JAVA, Va. - Basil Foch Farson, age 81, of 2233 Riceville Road, Java, died Thursday, March 22, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born September 22, 1919 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Samuel Thomas Farson and Lottie Smith Farson. Mr. Farson was predeceased by a son, Samuel Farson, a daughter, Cindy Loraine Farson, a brother, James Farson, two sisters, Irma Reynolds and Perdita Williams. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Riceville where he served as a former Deacon and former Superintendent of Sunday Schools. Mr. Farson was a retired farmer and a former member of the Riceville-Java Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife of over fifty-eight years, Naomi Martin Farson of the residence; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Donnie Meadows of Java; two sisters, Alpha Tucker of South Boston and Mozelle Farthing of Danville; a grandson, Chris Hutcherson of Java and a great-grandson, Seth Hutcherson.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001 at the First Baptist Church of Riceville by Rev. Joseph McKissick. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence 2233 Riceville Road, Java.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the charity of your choice.

NATHALIE, Va. - Ellie Bentley Scott Fisher, 80, of 1200 Buck-Horace Trail, died March 25, 2001 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born June 8, 1920 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Elie Bentley and Lena Daniel Bentley.
She was married
to Horace D. Fisher, who predeceased her. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Millstone.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Scott Moser of South Boston; one son, Thomas Ray Scott of Nathalie; three sisters, Gladys B. McCullough of Lynchburg, Edna Guthrie, Mamie Davis, both of Nathalie; two brothers, Carroll Bentley of Nathalie, Henry Bentley of Brookneal; one stepson, Buck Fisher of Nathalie; five stepdaughters, Dolly Fallen of South Boston, Sarah F. Monroe of Gladys, Becky F. Gentry of Henderson, N.C., Gracie Conde of Homestead, Fla., Agnes Morris of Nathalie; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Millstone with the Rev. Bob Watts officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Deborah Moser, 707 Greenway Drive, South Boston.

Forrest Gauldin
CALLANDS, Va. - Forrest Lester Gauldin, 75, of 12709 Callands Road, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at the residence.
Born Oct. 31, 1925, he was the son of William Oliver Gauldin and Lula Oakes Gauldin.
He was married
to Nona Gauldin, who died April, 26, 1989. He worked at Ennis Business Forms as a press operator. He was a Army veteran of 20 years and served in World War II and Korea. He was of the baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth G. Pillow, of Blairs, Va.; one son Russell O. Gauldin of Danville, Va.; two step-sons, Charles C. Ainsley of Edenton, N.C., Carroll L. Ainsley of Newport News, Va.; one sister, Lottie G. Walker, of Penhook, Va.,; one grandchild and seven step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased in death by three brothers, Richard H. "Shorty" Gauldin, William J. "Jeff" Gauldin, Averett L. "Ted" Gauldin; two deceased sisters, Essie G. Snead and Ethelene G. Maisell.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.D. Hunt and Rev. Kenneth Amos officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. -Mary Kathryn Good, 80, of 1111 Wolf Trap Road, South Boston, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 21, 1920 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Henry Good and Cora Brenneman Good.
She was a member of Ebenezer Mennonite Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Ruth N. Good and Lena F. Good, both of the home, Ina G. Stalter of Stuarts Draft.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one brother, Louis H. Good and three sisters, Beulah I. Good, Elizabeth G. Brunk and Dorothy G. Brunk.
The funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Mennonite Church with Pastors Nathan Good, Jerrel Good and John Risser officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.

Bud Harden
WALHALLA, S.C. - Victor R. "Bud" Harden, 77, of 1817 Westminster Highway, Walhalla, died Friday, March 16, 2001 at the residence.
Born in Oconee County, he was the son of L.V. "Vic" and Lillian McKee Harden.
He worked for LaFrance Industries until his retirement and served in the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors include one daughter, Margaret "Katie" Harden of Danville, Va.; two sons, Scott Harden and Mark Harden, both of San Antonio, Texas, and five grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Golden Corner Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends following the service and is at the residence of Lillian Murphy, 163 Murphy Drive, Walhalla.

Benson Hawker
EXMORE, Va. - Benson "Ben" Miles Hawker, 84, of Exmore, died Monday, March 19, 2001 at Heritage Hall.
Born in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of James Henry Hawker and Mattie Murray Hawker.
He was married
to Katherine Farmer Hawker, who survives. He worked as a self employed construction contractor and was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Virginia H. Swartz of Cox Mills, W.Va., Carolyn H. Ginsberg of Norwalk, Conn., Roberta H. Shankle of Richmond; one son, Michael B. Hawker of Melfa; three brothers, Robert Dudley Hawker, James Henry Hawker Jr. and Charlie Murray Hawker, all of Danville; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Maranatha Baptist Church with the Revs. Chuck Cooper and Bill Charnock officiating. Interment
will follow at Belle Haven cemetery.

Noland Hudson
DANVILLE, Va. - Noland Hudson, 80, of 627 Arnett Boulevard, Apt. 10, Danville, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center after several months of declining health and one week in the hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1920 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Edward Hudson and Maude Lawrence Hudson.
He was married
to Geneva Taylor Hudson of the residence, who survives. Mr. Hudson had lived his entire life in the Danville area and was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad (formerly Southern Railway). He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 1097. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Taylor Hudson of the home; a son, Noland T. Hudson of Franklin, N.C.; a grandson, Lee Gene Hudson and wife, Jen, of Franklin, N.C.; a great-grandchild, Sidney Hudson and two nieces, Peggy Gossett of Orange, Texas and Anita Williams, Florida.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Revs. William Mizelle and Vernon Hayden officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post No. 1097.

Cecil Lawrence
CHATHAM, Va. - Cecil "Cebo" Gilmore Lawrence, 66, of 6357 Sago Road, Chatham, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
Born March 28, 1934 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Buck Lawrence and Pearl Rigney Lawrence.
He worked as a farmer until his retirement.
Survivors include two brothers, Roger Lawrence of Collinsville, Charles Lawrence of Penhook and one sister, Peggy L. Phillippi of Martinsville.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one brother, Dawson Lawrence and one sister, Edna L. Cauley.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Lawrence Family cemetery in Pittsylvania County with Minister J. D. Hunt III officiating.
The family will be receiving friends at the residence.
