LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Robert Glass, 57, of Long Branch, N.J. and formerly of Sandy Level, Va., died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Mammouth Health Care Center in Long Branch, N.J.
Born in Halifax County December 20, 1943, he was the son of Uley Glass and Thelma Jennings Glass.
Survivors in addition to his father include four brothers, Charlie Glass, of Blairs, Va., Johnny Glass, James Glass, both of Sandy Level, Va., Jimmy Glass, of Chatham, Va.; one sister, Bessie Glass of Chatham, Va.
He predeceased by his mother and a brother, Uley Glass Jr.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Friday at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Ramsey officiating.
The family is at the residence of his father and sister, Uley and Bessie Glass, 825 Toshes Road, Chatham, Va.

Judith Gonzales
RICHMOND, Va. - Last evening saw the passing of Judith Ellen Marsella Gonzales of Richmond, a native of Danville, Virginia. Judith is survived by her husband, Gilbert; daughter, Lindsay; son John; father, Dr. John Marsella; brother, Jerry Marsella; sister, Jane Drake; and countless friends and relatives whose lives she touched. Judy was a remarkable mother, wife, friend and professional, whose work in the community affected thousands and supported many. Her boundless energy and strength were inspirational to all who knew her, and her beauty, wisdom and grace were matched only by her sense of humor, intelligence, and devotion to her family. Mrs. Gonzales was a pediatric nurse practitioner who had worked for the Henrico County Health Department and other health organizations. She was a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia and the University of Virginia. Her dedication to her work with children was reflected in her constant willingness to repeatedly exceed the bounds of professional duty and provide medical care and comfort wherever it was needed regardless of hour or circumstance. Judy was a member of the Virginia Junior League and NAP-NAP and served in various roles as a leader and committee chair at Reveille United Methodist Church. Judith was an avid tennis player, artist and volunteer, and in all capacities was an exemplary mother, friend and community member. The family will hold a visitation service at the Parham Road Chapel of the Woody Funeral Home Saturday, March 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, April 1 at 3 p.m. at Reveille United Methodist Church on Cary Street. The family asks that instead of flowers, those who wish to share their concern and support make contributions in Judy’s name to the Make a Wish Foundation.
James Guill Sr.
BLAIRS, Va. - James David "Jim" Guill Sr., 92, of 1389 Lawless Creek Road, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Piney Forest Health Care Center where he had resided for two weeks.
Born April 29, 1908, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of James Monroe Guill and Nannie Womack Guill.
He was married
Feb. 14, 1930, to Vivian Lee Hodnett Guill who predeceased him March 6, 1999. He had lived his entire life in the Blairs community where he was a prominent farmer before his retirement. He also worked as a foreman for the Virginia Department of Highways. He was a member of the Blairs Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, James David Guill Jr. of Rural Hall, N.C., Wiley Thomas "Buck" Guill of Danville, Roy Glen Guill of Blairs; one daughter, Venice Ann Rocchi of Blairs; two brothers, Roger Scott Guill of Danville, Bessie Mae Bliss of Danville; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents and wife, by four brothers, Joseph Guill, Nathan Guill, Harvey Guill, Willie Guill and two sisters, Nannie Kent and Mattie Guill.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Reed officiating. Interment
will follow at Guill Family cemetery in Blairs.
The family will be receiving friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence of Barry Guill, 152 Northwest Boulevard.

Willie Gunn
DANVILLE, Va. - Willie Henry Gunn, 86, of 534 Cleveland Street, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at the residence.
Born Dec. 22, 1914 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Walter Gunn and Annie Echols Gunn.
He worked as a laborer for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church, Deacon Board, Chairman of Finance Committee at the church, N.A.A.C.P., Ministers and Deacons Union of Danville and vicinity.
Survivors include two sons, Fred Gunn of Ft. Washington, Md., Walter Gunn of Danville; three brothers, Charlie Gunn of Ringgold, Ernest Gunn of Baltimore, Md., Jace Gunn of Danville; three sisters, Helena Farmer of Danville, Catherine Motley of Blairs, Odaris Grasty of Philadelphia, Pa.; two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Kentuck Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Fitz officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park. Viewing will be held 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home.

Mozelle Hawker
DANVILLE, Va. - Mozelle Barbour Hawker, 67, of 114 Withers Road Apt. No. 34, died Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the residence.
Born June 9, 1933 in Danville, she was the daughter of William Henry Barbour and Cora Lee Walton Barbour.
She was married
to Obie A. Hawker, who predeceased her. She retired as a custodian from the Danville Public Schools and also worked for many years with J.T. Townes Printing Co. She was a member of Pocohantas tribe of Red Men and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, Dewey Allen Hawker of Danville; three daughters, Kathy Douglas, Sandra Massey, Joyce Thornton, all of Danville; two brothers, Perry Barbour of Danville, Clarence Barbour of Lampassas, Tx.; two sisters, Doris Lewis, Estelle Norton, both of Danville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ben Poovey officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Ruth Hudson
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. -Ruth Bray Hudson, 65, of 715 Magnolia Drive, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at the residence.
Born Jan 4, 1936 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Versie J. Bray and Annie Arrington Bray.
She was married
to Jefferson "Jeff" Hudson, who survives her. She was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church and worked as a sales person for U.S. Factory Outlet.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three daughters, Deborah Wheeler, Linda Gail Matze, both of San Diego, Calif., Cindy Mullins of Leesburg; two sons, Jeffrey Hudson of Mount Laurel, Barry Hudson of South Boston; three brothers, Clifton Bray of Richmond, Clarence Bray of Lexington, N.C., Charlie Franklin Bray of South Boston; four sisters, Ina New, Glenda Henderson, Irma Davis, all of South Boston, Brenda Wilson of Skipwith; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by three brothers, David Bray, Lewis Bray and Otis Bray.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs officiating. Visitation will take place 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Brooks Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Mabel Hutson
DANVILLE, Va. - Mabel Guthrie Hutson, age 91, of 10565 North Carolina Highway Route 86 North, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Hutson was born May 7, 1909 in Caswell County, N.C. the daughter of Ephriam Jackson Guthrie and Mary Catherine Murray.
She was married
to Raymond L. Hutson, who died December 15, 2000.
Mrs. Hutson was a member of Shady Oak Baptist Church on Walters Mill Road, where she was active in the Ladies Fellowship at the church. She was retired from Dan River Mills.
She was predeceased by seven sisters, Annie Hodges, Lillian Davis, Carrie Boswell, Mattie Guthrie, Pearl Wrenn, Gladys Guthrie, Willie Martin and one brother, Artie Guthrie.
Mrs. Hutson is survived by by three sons, Louis G. Hutson and his wife, Catherine of Providence, N.C., Eddie J. Hutson and his wife, Irene of Greensboro, N.C. and Bobby G. Hutson and his wife, Barbara of Danville, four grandchildren, Karen Coble of Greensboro, N.C., Donna Hutson of Durham, N.C., Diane Laing of Sterling, Va. and Michelle Papierniak of Chatham, Va. and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. from Townes Memorial Chapel by Rev. Avery L. Marshall and Rev. Gilmer Setliff. Interment
will follow at Shady Oak Baptist Church cemetery, Walters Mill Road.
The family will receive friends on Saturday night, April 7, 2001, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the residence of her son, Louis Hutson at 106 Walters Mill Road.

Minnie Jenkins
DANVILLE, Va. - Minnie Jenkins, 80, of 500 Fredrick Street, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the residence.
Born Dec. 25, 1919, in Charlotte County, she was the daughter of Avery Mutz and Rosa Lee Whitener Mutz.
She was married
to Curtis Jenkins, who predeceased her. She worked for Lorrilard Tobacco Company until her retirement.
Survivors include one sister, Lillie McKenzie of Granite Quarry, N.C., and two brothers, Noland Mutz of Roanoke and Solomon Mutz of Granite Quarry, N.C.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Jesse Swan officiating. Interment
will follow at Oak Hill cemetery.

Dottie Jones
JAVA, Va. - Dottie Jones, 61, of 285 Riceville, Road, died Monday. April 4, 2001, at the Stratford Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 11, 1939, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Alice Jean Terry Jones and Samuel Jones.
She was last employed as a receptionist at condominum complex and was a member of the Zion Chapel Baptist Church, Vernon Hill, Va.
Survivors, in addition to her mother of the residence, include one daughter, Daphne Venable of Laurel, Md.; one son, Juan Jones of Los Angeles, Ca.; three sisters, Joyce Jones of Landover, Md., Cynthia Logan of Java, Va., and Cheryl Clark of Danville, Va.; three bothers, Sam Jones, Jr. and John T. Jones, both of Chester, Pa., William L. Jones of Coatesville, Pa.; seven step-sisters, Virginia Stephens, Doris Moore, Sandra Moore and Ion Young, all of Hyattsville, Md., Elaine Wilson, Clara Berger both of Landover, Md., Deloris Wright, of Java, Va.; three step-brothers, Robert Logan, of Washington, D.C., Eliza Logan Jr. of Hurt, Va., and David Logan, of Chatham, Va.; two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday from the Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dexter Tanner officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.

John Joyce
DANVILLE, Va. - John Frank Joyce, 79, of 58 Stokesland Ave., died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 21, 1921, in Spencer, he was the son of William D. Joyce and Mary Moorefield Joyce.
He was married
to Elnora Earp Joyce, who survives. He worked for 43 years at Dan River, Inc. before his retirement. He was a veteran of the Army during World War II and was a life member of V.F.W. Post 647.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the home, include two sisters, Frances Turpin and Nancy Sluss, both of Danville; and one brother, Noel Joyce of Danville.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Townes Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Interment
will be held at Danville Memorial Gardens, with military graveside honors conducted by the Honor Guard of the American Legion Post No. 1097.

Jimmie Kinder
DANVILLE, Va. - Jimmie Edward Kinder, 67, of 800 Audubon Drive, Danville, died April 6, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center as the result of an apparent heart attack.
Born July 4, 1933, he was the son of Fred E. Kinder who predeceased him and Angie Mason Kinder Montgomery of Danville who survives.
He was married
November 15, 1968 to Audrey Dodson Kinder. Mr. Kinder had resided in Danville most of his entire life. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, Mr. Kinder was retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a member of American Legion Post #325, Life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ballard Pruitt Post #647, and Archer T. Gammon Chapter Disabled American Veterans. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Dodson Kinder of Danville; mother, Angie Mason Kinder Montgomery of Danville; two daughters, Linda Shelton Burton of Danville; Pamela Shelton Vicker and husband Roy Vickers of Blacksburg; one son, Jay Shelton and wife Beverly B. Shelton of Danville; one sister, Patsy K. Watlington and husband John Watlington of Yanceyville, N.C.; grandsons, Patrick Shelton of Danville, Jason Talbott of Wilmington N.C., Zachary Vicker, Abe Vicker and Matt Vicker of Blacksburg, Michael Burton of Danville; granddaughters, Meliss Foust of Blacksburg, Meredith Foust of Chapel Hill, N.C., Lindsay Burton of Richmond; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Burton and Cierra Burton of Danville; niece, Lisa Watlington of Yanceyville, N.C. and nephew, Kin Watlington of Yanceyville, N.C.
