Howard Parcell
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Howard Thomas "Buster" Parcell, 80, of 1039 Liberty Street Ext., died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville.
Born July 28, 1920, in Henry County, he was the son of James F. Parcell and Hattie Crane Parcell.
He was married
to Laura Morrison Parcell, who survives. He worked for Pannell Knitting Co. before his retirement after 32 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Janie Parcell Martin, Shirley Parcell Self, Linda Parcell Custer, all of Martinsville; one son, Lonnie T. Parcell of Pittsboro, N.C.; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by three sisters, Gladys Parcell Draper, Hazel Parcell Dodson, Mabel Parcell Butcher and one brother, Nolen E. "Possum" Parcell.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Norris Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Francis Martin officiating. Interment
will follow at Roselawn Burial Park with Military honors conducted by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Norris Funeral Services.

Grace Parsley
HIGHLAND SPRINGS, Va. - Grace B. Parsley, 69, of Highland Springs, passed away Friday, March 30, 2001. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Melvin Parsley; her children, Grace Lynne Alphin, Melanie Patterson and Shawn Parsley; her grandchildren Ian, Sean, Connor and Jordan, who knew her as their beloved GiGi. She is also survived by her sisters, Marjorie Mann and Eunice Martin and many friends and family in the Danville area. Mrs. Parsley was a lifetime member of New Bridge Baptist Church.
Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Bridge Baptist Church. Interment

Victoria Payne
DANVILLE, Va. - Victoria Mallory Payne, age 84, of 304 Dogwood Drive, died Monday, April 2, 2001, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 25, 1916 in Lawrenceville, Va. the daughter of Frederick Parham Mallory and Myrtice Logan Mallory.
She was married
to Irvin Lloyd Payne, retired Vice President of Dan River, Inc., on March 10, 1939.
She had been a resident of Danville for 56 years and she was a member of the Church of the Epiphany. She was a member of Danville Golf Club, the Danville Duplicate Bridge Club (where she attained the status of Life Master) and a former member of The Wednesday Club.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter Susan Payne Glass and her husband, Paul Edwin Glass, Jr. of Lake Norman, N.C. and a son, William Frederick Payne and his wife, Nancye Gatewood Payne of Danville, a brother, James Baugh Mallory of Greenville, N.C., two grandchildren, Mallory Glass Hannaford of Waterford, Conn. and Paul Edwin Glass III of Chapel Hill, N.C.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 5, 2001 at 2 p.m. in Mountain View cemetery by the Rev. James Mathieson.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday night at Townes Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence, 304 Dogwood Drive.

Elizabeth Pyron
DANVILLE, Va. - Elizabeth Wells Pyron, 98, of 232 Ingram Road, died Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Stratford Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 19, 1902 in Henry County, she was the daughter of Johnny James Wells and Ada Bell Roach Wells.
She was married
to Robert Howard Pyron, who predeceased her. She lived most of her life in Danville and worked for 46 years at Dan River, Inc. She was a charter member of Schoolfield Holiness Church.
Survivors include two sons, Howard “Sonny” Pyron, Cecil Pyron Sr., both of Danville; two daughters, Edna F. Lineberry of Buena Vista, Velma Watkins of Reidsville, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by two daughters, Virginia Elizabeth Pyron, Gracey Clay Pyron; five brothers, John Wells, J. Arthur Wells, J.T. Wells, Oren Wells, Addison Wells and three sisters, Mamie Elliott, Myrtle Clark and Mollie Roach.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Revs. Michael Pressley and Roger Collins officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will be receiving friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

David Ragsdale Jr.
BLAIRS, Va. - David Thomas Ragsdale Jr., 45, of 569 Lawless Creek Road, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Born Jan. 30, 1956, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of David Thomas Ragsdale and Fannie Mays Ragsdale, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, includes one brother, Ricky Lynn Ragsdale of Blairs, and maternal grandmother, Gladys N. Mays of Danville.
He was predeceased, in addition to his father, by one sister, Virginia Faye Ragsdale.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Scott Funeral Home with the Revs. Russell H. East III and Jack Noble officiating. Interment
will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park in Chatham.
The family will be receiving friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at Scott Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Bill Richmond
MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Bill Amos Richmond, 83, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Mt. Sinai Hospital.
Born in Caswell County, he was the son of Emily Bigelow Richmond and Fred Richmond. He was a member of High Rock Baptist Church and worked for General Motors for a number of years. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include one brother, John Richmond, of Blanch, N.C.; three sisters, Carrie Wilson of Dickerson, Md., Emily Spears, of Washington, D.C., and Jetta Evans of Kalamazoo, Mich.
A funeral will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday at High Rock Baptist Church. Interment
will follow in the church cemetary.
The family will receive friends 11 a.m. Wednesday prior to the funeral.

Justin Rinn
DANVILLE, Va. - Justin Edward Rinn, 19, of Sutherlin Avenue, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center having suffered from a birth defect called Conelia de Lange Syndrome, which includes multiple health problems that contributed to his death.
Born Nov. 2, 1981 in Danville, he was the son of Edward J. Rinn and Rebecca L. Rinn, who survive.
In addition to his parents, survivors include two sisters, Destiny Rebecca Rinn, Ashley Danielle Rinn, both of the residence; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Frances Edwards of Danville,; paternal grandfather, James Conrad Rinn of Topeka, Kansas.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Mary Gladys Rinn and a stillborn brother.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Chapel with the Rev. James W. Mathieson officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of his grandparents, Wayne and Frances Edwards, 215 Westhampton Avenue.

Hilda Robbins
DANVILLE, Va. - Hilda "Bunny" Robbins, 72, of 1409 Jones Mills Road, Chatham, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one year of declining health.
Born Jan. 21, 1929, she was the daughter of Fredrick Seddon and Hilda Whitehead Seddon.
She was married
to Wilhma Robbins who predeceased her Aug. 17, 1974. She moved to Pittsylvania County nine years ago after previously living in Texas.
Survivors include four children, Noel B. Searles of Salisbury, Mass., Danny W. Robbins of Knoxville, Iowa, Darlene S. DeVries of Tuscon, Ariz., Wendy L. Tate of the residence; ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one son, Donald W. Searles.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

DANVILLE, Va. - Mary McAden Smith, 90, of Riverside Healthcare Center, died March 31, 2001, at the residence.
Born June 9, 1910, she was the daughter of Ishman McAden and Vinnie Hargrave McAden.
She was married
to Priscillar Smith, who predeceased her.
Survivors include one son, Donald Smith of Danville; one sister, Catherine Morton of Danville; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one son, Robert Lee Smith.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Apostolic Church with Bishop Major Hairston officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

CHATHAM, Va. - Addie Yeatts Towler, 88, of 3717 Climax Road, died Friday, April 6, 2001 at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 8, 1912 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Charlie D. Yeatts and Ada Reynolds Yeatts.
She was married
to John Parker Towler, who predeceased her. She was a member of Greenpond Baptist Church.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one sister, Jessie Y. Law.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Greenpond Baptist Church cemetery with the Revs. John McCray and Kyle Flora officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.
