Roland Moser
DANVILLE, Va. - Roland Leo Moser, 70, of 1006 Lanier Ave., died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center, where he had been a patient since Jan. 29, 2001, after five years of declining health.
Born July 8, 1930, he was the son of Robert Fred Moser and Ila Mae Brown Moser.
He was married
Feb. 18, 1951, to Lois Jean Walker Moser, who survives. He was of the holiness faith. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1097, a charter member of Cedar Hill Hunting Club, and a faithful member of the National Rifle Association. He lived most of his life in Danville, Virginia. He was retired after more than twenty years with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company where he worked as a machine operator. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict at Okinawa.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one daughter, Cynthia D. Moser and fiance Rick Steiner of Toano; two sons, Steven L. Moser of Danville and Billy Ray Moser and wife Sandra of Chatham; one sister, Ruby M. Perkins of Salem; two brothers, Leonard Moser of Java and Roger F. Moser of Danville; one grandson, Micah I. Walker and wife Cynthia of Blairs; three granddaughters, Whitney V. Journigan of Greensboro, N.C., Aimee R. Moser and Jesikah D. Moser, both of Danville; one step-grandson, Frankie L. Tolbert Jr. of Crew and one step great-granddaughter, Brittany Dahl Tolbert of Crew.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one son, Steven Ray Moser; four brothers, Elmer Moser, Bobby Moser, Fitzhue Moser and Ralph Moser and five sisters, Elsie Moser, June Moser, Eva. M. Meadows, Gracie Meadows and Capitola M. Shelton.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 23rd at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with Pastor Albert Moser officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and other times at the residence.

Ivey Munford
DANVILLE, Va. - Ivey O. Munford, 81, of 143 Bell Drive, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after two years of declining health and four days in the hospital.
Born July 25, 1919, in Danville, she was the daughter of Henry Martin Ozment and Hessie Pritchett Ozment.
She was married
to Riouse Lee Munford, who predeceased her May 7, 1982. She lived her entire life in Danville and worked for Dan River, Inc. until her retirement at the age of 61. She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Frances Prevette of Richmond; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her generation of the family.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one son, Bobby Lee Munford Sr.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Arlington Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Samuel Greeson officiating. Interment
will follow at Schoolfield cemetery.

Nancy Myers
RINGGOLD, Va. - Nancy D. Myers, 46, of 492 Wiles Road, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the residence, after six months of declining health.
Born Sept. 7, 1954, in Danville, she was the daughter of Dewey N. Doolin who predeceased her and Cornelia Doolin who survives.
She was married
Aug. 27, 1992, to Kenny L. Myers, who survives. She lived in Danville her entire life and was a supervisor in the Print Shop and Mail at Danville Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Evangel Assembly of God Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband and mother, both of Danville, include one daughter, Shelley K. Myers of Danville.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. William G. Mizele officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

GRETNA, Va. - Hazel Watson Oakes, 91, of 1004 Rockford School Road died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born May 9, 1909, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Wiley Watson and Hattie Walker Watson.
She was married
to A. Fulton Oakes, who predeceased her. She was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include four sons, Maurice Oakes of Gretna, Robert L. Oakes Sr. of Gretna, Dwight Oakes of Gretna and Tracy Oakes of Chatham; three daughters, Jean Cannington of Buford, Ga., Nancy Jones of Hurt and Janice Newcomb of Danville; two brothers, Denton Watson of Ringgold and Roderick Watson of Chatham; four sisters, Margaret Edwards of Gretna, Agnes Williams of Ringgold, Rebecca Owen of Chatham and Mabel Tomblin of Wyoming; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by three brothers, Harold Watson, Wesley Watson and Wiley Watson; and four sisters, Gertrude Linthicum, Eva Ramsey, Myrtle Owen and Jane Nance.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Greenfield Baptist Church with the Rev. R.G. Rowland officiating. Interment
will follow at Gretna Burial Park.

Louise Oakes
CHATHAM, Va. - Louise Haskins Oakes, 94, of 3026 Ivory Branch Road, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 16, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of William Haskins and Mollie Rigney Haskins.
She was married
to James David Oakes, who predeceased her. She was a member of Oak Ridge Christian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen Holley of Callands and Juanita Edwards of Chatham; one son, Wyatt Oakes of Chatham; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one son, Aaron David Oakes and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Scott Funeral Home with Kenneth McFarling, Minister and J.D. Hunt III, Minister, officiating. Interment
will follow at Oakes Family cemetery.

Mary Puryear
NATHALIE, Va. - Mary Morris Puryear, 94, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at the Woodview.
Born Jan. 12, 1907, in North Carolina, she was married
to Roy Walter Puryear, who predeceased her. She was a homemaker and was a member of Berry Hill Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Roberta Coleman and Joann Smith, both of Red Oak, Janie Perkins of Nathalie and Maryland Matthews of South Boston; one sister, Doris Gordon of South Boston; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by two sons, James Puryear and George Puryear and two grandsons.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill McEntire officiating. Interment
will follow at Black Walnut Baptist Church cemetery.
Visitation was held 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Maryland Matthews, 2195 East Hyco Road, South Boston.

Kenneth Rice
CONWAY, S.C. - Kenneth Lee Rice age 39 died Sunday April 15, 2001 at his residence following an illness.
Mr. Rice was born in Richmond, Va. a son of Edward L. Rice and Wanda Patrick Rice. He was a member of Socastee Church of God.
Surviving in addition to his father of Danville, Va. and mother of Conway are: one sister, Teresa McGee of Conway; two nieces, Lawanda Pentecost of Conway and Lorie McGee also of Conway; one nephew, Johnnie Ray-Pentecost of Conway; a special Dad, Terry Sasser of Conway and maternal grandmother Helen Patrick also of Conway.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday from Socastee Church of God with the Rev. Niegel Scarborough, Rev. Ernest Chambers and Rev. James Goude officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Janet C. Robarr, 81, of 103 Eanes St., died April 17, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 29, 1919, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Eula Crenshaw and Elise Crenshaw.
She was married
to Norman G. Robarr, who survives. She was a member of Center United Church of Christ and the Herb Club.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of South Boston, include one daugther, Susan Ann Gregg of Cockeysville, Md.; one son, James D. Robarr of Lockport, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Claude Crenshaw of Nathalie, Hunter Crenshaw of Sliver Springs, Md. and Charles Crenshaw of Mt. Laurel and two sisters, Polly Fitchlee of South Boston and Helen Morris of Halifax.

CHATHAM, Va. - Mildred Adams Shelton, 77, of 609 Oakland Drive died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 5, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Raymond Terry Adams and Isabel Finch Adams.
She was married
to Frank Burton Shelton, who survives. She was a member of Watson Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, includes two sisters, Narvie A. Richards of Sims, N.C., and Juanita A. Adkins of Java; and two brothers, Calvin Adams of Roanoke and Bruce Adams of Java.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one brother, Hugh Adams.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Watson Memorial Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Wickham and the Rev. Walker Pettyjohn officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park in Danville.

HURT, Va. - Clara Dalton Thornton, 91, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born March 9, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Alfred Dalton and Eliza Vasser Dalton.
She was married
to William Matthew Thornton, who predeceased her. She was a member of Edge Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, William Harvey Thornton of Sophia, N.C.; two daughters, Phyllis T. Moore and Sadie T. Shelton, all of Hurt; three brothers, Eldridge Dalton of Gretna, Gus Dalton and Lester Dalton, both of Hurt; two sisters, Nellie D. Ridgeway of Altavista and Annie D. Dalton of Hurt; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one sister, Hettie D. Barbour and four brothers, Clifton, Osborne, Berkley and Chesley Dalton.

will follow at Motley United Methodsit Church cemetery.
