Danville, Va. - Wilbur Averette "W.A." Gregory, 74, of 209 Iris Lane, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at the residence after declining health since 1995.
Born May 30, 1926, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Lly Spencer Gregory and Mary Hankins Gregory.
He was first married
to Barbara Hawkins Gregory, who predeceased him Nov. 1, 1987, and was later married
July 15, 1993, to Virginia Adkins Gregory, who survives. He worked at Dan River Inc. as a supervisor for over 40 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II in the 748 Military Police Battalion stationed in Scottfield, Ill. He was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one son, Danny A. Gregory of Pelham, N.C.; one daughter, Kay G. East of Petersburg; two step-daughters, Barbara A. Trent and Shirley A. Hooker, both of Danville; two step-sons, Jimmy Adkins and Johnny Adkins, both of Danville; three brothers, Davis Gregory Sr. and Richard Gregory, both of Danville, and Douglas Gregory of Chatham; three sisters, Jessie G. Hearp, Gladys G. Haymore and Edith G. Hawkins, all of Danville; six grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one brother, Buford Gregory.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lee Ellison and the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park with graveside military honors by American Legion Memorial Post 325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the residence.

Raymond Guill
DANVILLE, Va. - Raymond Louis Guill, 81, of 155 Lexington Ave., died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after 18 months of declining health and one day in the hospital.
Born April 22, 1920, in Halifax County, he was the son of Benny Joel Guill and Musa Chaney Guill.
He was married
Sept. 18, 1943, to Elizabeth Barber Guill, who survives. He was a member of Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and as treasurer of the Sunday School department. He was a member of the Dan River Retired Club and had been a resident in the Glenwood community for 58 years. He retired in 1985 from Dan River Mills Inc., where he worked as a weaver in the No. 8 weave room.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include three sons, Braxton Guill of Blackshear, Ga., Zane Guill of Gastonia, N.C. and Barry L. Guill of Ringgold; two daughters, Patricia G. Spencer of Suffolk and Charlene G. Knapp of Danville; one sister, Virginia Buchanon of Halifax; three brothers, Thornton Guill of Danville, Everett Guill of Brookneal and Josh Guill of Nathalie; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one sister, Ruby G. Smith; two brothers, Charlie Guill and Willie Guill and one granddaughter.
The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Allgood and the Rev. Dr. Phillip Duckett officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Earl Huneycutt
VIRGILINA, Va. - Earl John "E.J." Huneycutt, 78, of 1080 Ford Lane, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born June 14, 1922, in North Carolina, he was the son of Oliver John Huneycutt and Effie H. Huneycutt.
He was married
to Maxine C. Huneycutt, who predeceased him, and was later married
to Marie A. Huneycutt, who survives. He worked as a textile worker for Burlington Industries until his retirement and was a member of Jeffress Baptist Church in Clarksville and the American Legion Post 336 in Virgilina. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of Virgilina, include one son, Earl Huneycutt of Clarksville; one stepson, Michael Tillotson of Buffalo Junction; one stepdaughter, Vicky T. Elmore of Henderson, N.C.; one brother, Melvin Huneycutt of Virgilina; one granddaughter; one great grandson and four step grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Keen and the Rev. Ronnie Matthews officiating. Interment
will follow at Virgilina cemetery.

Murry Hill Sr.
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. -Murry Grant Hill Sr., 62, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at the residence.
He was married
to Earnestine Hill, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of Roxboro, N.C., include three daughters, Arron Lassiter of Alton, Vanessa Hill of Baltimore, Md. and Aleece Carden of Scottsburg; one son, Murray Hill Jr. of South Boston; nine grandchildren; six step-children, Jason Bailey, Mary Creighton, Darlene Winston, Charles Owen and Wanda Owen; nine step grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Boulden of Piscataway, N.J., Gracie Brown of Baltimore, Md. and Vernel Terry of Philadelphia, Pa. and two brothers, Robert Hill and Wade Hill of Baltimore, Md.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Millstone Baptist Church in Nathalie with the Rev. Chester Spruills officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.

Ovid Hogan
RINGGOLD, Va. - Ovid Ramsey Hogan, 85, of 1260 Ringgold Church Road died Friday, April 27, 2001 at his residence after 2 years of declining health.
Mr. Hogan was born February 19, 1916 in Gretna, Virginia, a son of Charlie Anderson Hogan and Maggie Ramsey Hogan. On November 21, 1941 he was married
to Louise Elliott Hogan, who survives.
He was retired from the Department of Agriculture, Soil Conversation Service with 37 years of service. Mr. Hogan was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church and had served on the board of deacons. He was a member of the Kent Masonic Lodge #305, the Danville Scottish Rite and Past Patron of Robertson Bennett Chapter #70 of the Order of Eastern Star.
He was a life member of the Danville Life Saving Crew, where he received the Raymond C. McNeely Memorial Award for outstanding member 1987-88. He was a member and served on the board of directors for the Kentuck Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Ringgold community watch.
Mr. Hogan had served as Chairman of the Pittsylvania County Highway Commission for 17 years. He taught First Aid and CPR for the American Red Cross for over 45 years. He was a past president of the Dan River Ruritan Club and was a former Boy Scout Master and Explorer Leader. He was awarded the Service to Mankind Award in 1980 from the Piedmont Sertoma and Confederate District Sertoma.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Eli O. Hogan, Roy A. Hogan and I. Irvin Hogan and four sisters, Arlene W. Gravitt, Zelma H. Ashley, Adeline H. Moshenek and Melitta Belle Hogan.
Survivors in addition to his wife, of the residence, include a son, James Edward Hogan and wife Margaret B. Hogan of Danville, a brother, Henry H. Hogan of Danville and two granddaughters, Jennifer Hogan of Seattle, Wash. and Jessica Hogan of Danville.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 30, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. from the Kentuck Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. A.C. Smith and the Reverend R. Levi Stroud, Jr. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park with Masonic Rites by Kent Lodge #305.

RINGGOLD, Va. - Betty L. Bunn Jones, 71, of 1850 Milton Highway, died Monday afternoon, April 23, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 24, 1929, in Bristol, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Silas Clifton Bunn and Isabel Mae Gourley Bunn, both deceased.
She was married
to Marvin Jackson Jones, who survives. She was retired from the Danville City School System. She loved to work with Children. She lived her life for God and her children. She was a leader in the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She was a former youth leader at Shelton Memorial and Riverview Churches. She was a dedicated Christian, a Loving wife and Mother of five children.

GRETNA, Va. - Lucy Shelton Keen, 97, of 1057 Keens Road, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Grace Lodge in Lynchburg.
Born April 28, 1903, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Zeb Eldridge Shelton and Sally Pat Moorefield Shelton.
She was married
to Charlie Keen, who predeceased her. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Gretna Branch.
Survivors include five sons, Otis L. Keen of Long Island, N.Y., D. Randolph Keen of Gretna, Harold B. Keen of Gretna, William E. Keen of Hurt and Sam W. Keen of Danville; four daughters, Kathy Jennings of Nathalie, Dorine Strawn of Bedford, Sarah Barker of Chatham and Dottie Elliott of Hurt; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one brother, Sam Shelton, and two sisters, Della Goodman and Flossie Williams.

Born March 2, 1933, in Cascade, she was a daughter of Ernest Salmons and Myrtle Cross Salmons and a step daughter of Elsie Salmons.
She was married
to Robert E. Lee, who survives. She lived most of her life in Danville where she was a homemaker and member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include two sons, Ricky Allen Lee of Blairs and Athan Eugene Lee of Danville; one daughter, Janice Marie Henderson of Danville; two brothers, Carl Salmons and Julian Salmons, both of Danville; one sister, Shirley Moore of Pelham, N.C.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

CHATHAM, Va. - Vivian Clesta Martin, 72, of Oak Grove Lodge, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 12, 1928, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Charlie Gordon Martin and Clesta Wilmouth Martin.
She lived most of her life in Scottsburg where she was a member of Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include one brother, William Gordon Martin of Scottsburg and three sisters, Clara M. Trent of Hurt, Earline M. Sanders of Danville and Pauline M. Gray of South Boston.
The graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday at Oak Ridge cemetery in South Boston with the Rev. Harvey Johnson officiating.

Born Aug. 27, 1906, in Durham, N.C., she was a daughter of James M. McGhee Sr. and Nannie Shelton McGhee.
She was married
to George Dewey Mayhew Sr., who predeceased her. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include fours sons, George D. Mayhew Jr. of Hurt, Forest B. Mayhew of Gretna, Darrell H. Mayhew of Gretna and Tommy D. Mayhew of Pawleys Island, S.C.; two daughters, Ruby Pickral of Gretna and Marjorie Shelton of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Wesley McGhee of Holly Hill, S.C. and Rev. James M. McGhee Jr. of Danville; two sisters, Velma Hogan of Evington and Myra Speer of Altavista; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
