AXTON, Va. - Timothy "Tim" Alan Melton, 38, of 7033 Mountain Valley Road, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at the residence as a result of cancer.
Born Aug. 27, 1962, in Danville, he was the son of Faris Mattox Melton, who survives, and Charles Ross Melton. He was self-employed.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of the residence, include two brothers, David Melton of Martinsville and Gregory Melton of Axton.
The funeral will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. J.D. Harmon officiating. Interment
will follow at Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville. Visitation will be held 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home.

Mary Mitchell
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Meadows Mitchell, 82, of 138 Ashwood Place, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 20, 1918, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of Roy H. Meadows Sr. and Ethel Boswell Meadows.
She was married
to King David Mitchell, who predeceased her September 1977. She was a member of College Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Ronnie David Mitchell of Danville and one grandson. She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by two brothers, Roy H. Meadows Jr. and Robert E. Meadows.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. View cemetery with the Rev. Jim Hewitt officiating. Interment
will follow at Mt. View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Townes Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his son, 3051 Breezewood Drive.

Henry Moore
HALIFAX, Va. - Henry Oscar Moore, 83, of 2228 Love Shop Road, died April 22, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Oct. 16, 1917, in Halifax County, he was the son of Oscar Allen Moore and Nancey Reeves Moore.
He was married
to Virginia Fulp Moore, who survives. He was a member of Dan River Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of Halifax, include two daughters, Nancey Jane Moore of Chesapeake and Patricia Elizabeth Moore of Greenville, N.C.; one son, Jim Allen Moore of Cluster Springs; one brother, Roy Reeves Moore of Halifax; one sister, Stella Herndon of Clinton, N.C.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one sister, Louisa Williams.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dwight Heatwole officiating. Interment
will follow at Dan River Baptist Church cemetery.

Herman Motley
CHATHAM, Va. - Herman Detric Motley, 84, of 921 Motley Road, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born May 24, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Leslie B. Motley and Pattie Shelton Motley.
He was a retired farmer and was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include one brother, Cecil B. Motley of Gretna.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by four sisters, Bernice M. Isaacs, Clarise M. Austin, Shirley Motley and Charlotte Motley and one brother, Duke S. Motley.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Scott Funeral Home with the Rev. James Bullock Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park in Danville.

Pauline Muse
DANVILLE, Va. - Pauline P. Shelton Muse, 84, formerly of 128 Idlewood Terrace, died Saturday evening April 28, 2001, at her Daughter’s Residence.
Born June 18, 1916, in Pittsylvania County Va., she was the daughter of Charlie W. Pickeral & Eva Keesee Pickeral, both deceased.
She was married
first to Raymond J. Shelton, who died during WWII and later to Mose J. Muse, also deceased. She was a self employed Beautician for many years. She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include One Daughter: Jacqueline S. Dodson of Brosville, Va.; Son-in-Law Ryland T. Dodson of Brosville, Va.; Three Brothers: Jesse W. Pickeral of Danville, Va., Sylvester Pickeral of Danville, Va. and Marvini Pickeral of Columbia, S.C.; Two Grandsons: Marty Dodson of Danville, Va. and Stephen Dodson of Danville, Va.; One Neice: Linda P. Baldwin of Danville, Va.; Three Nephews: Sherrill Pickeral of Danville, Va., Jerry Pickeral of Danville, Va. and Darrell Pickeral of Chesapeake, Va.; Two Step-Sons: Randy Muse of Carrington, La. and Cecil Muse of Carrington, La.; Two Great-Granddaughters; One Step-Granddaughter and Two Deceased Brothers, Rodney Pickeral and Calvin Pickeral.
The funeral will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday May 1, 2001, at Barker Funeral Home, Inc. with The Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating. Burial will take place at Highland Burial Park.

Viola Nelson
DANVILLE, Va. - Viola Nelson, 93, of 613 Doe St., died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 8, 1907, in Rockingham County, N.C., she was the daughter of Joe and Mattie Warsham Nelson.
Survivors include one sister, Lillie Mae Debrou of Danville.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. -Martha Wilborn Newby, 71, of 2208 Willow St., died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the residence.
Born Oct. 18, 1929, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Herbert Wilborn and Lillie Conner Wilborn.
She was married
to Claude Cephas Newby, who predeceased her. She was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church and served with the Bread Ministry of Ash Avenue Baptist Church. She was retired from B & N Antiques.
Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis N. Thompson of Atherton, Calif.; four sisters, Lula Wilbourn, Margaret Bane, Winnie Newby and Betty Wazeka, all of South Boston and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one brother, Billy Wilborn and two sisters, Janie Sue Frazier and Barbara Puryear.
The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Saturday at Ash Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. J.C. Raper officiating. Interment
will follow at Oak Ridge cemetery.

Norma Owen
CASCADE, Va. - Norma Joan Mullins Owen died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Wake Forest Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Born in Dickenson County, she was the daughter of Pearlie Salyer Mullins, who survives, and Will R. Mullins.
She was married
May 1983, to Daniel Owen, who survives. She graduated from Haysi High School in 1957 and attended the First Church of the Brethren in Danville for the past 19 years.
Survivors, in addition to her mother and husband, inlcude three sisters, Sue Woods of Clawson, Mich., Joyce Vogel of Johnson City, Tenn. and Gail Lutz of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Stoney Mullins of Shepherd, Texas and Max Mullins of Litchfield, Ill.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Haysi Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Sluss officiating. Interment
will follow at Salyer cemetery, Route 1, Clinchco, Va.

Marvin Payne
CASCADE, Va. - Marvin Allen Payne, 37, of 521 Black Bird Place, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three days in the hospital.
Born July 15, 1963, in Danville, he was the son of Marvin Thomas Payne and Angela Barnes Payne, who survive.
He lived most of his life in the Cascade area where he was an auto mechanic for Brays Auto and also worked as a mason for Burnette Construction. He had been in decliningh health for about one year and in serious condition about a week. He was of the holiness faith.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one brother, Paul Edward Payne of Axton; maternal grandmother, Mae Barnes of Danville and paternal grandmother, Hattie Belle Overstreet of Ringgold.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Meadows officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Lonnie Ragsdale
HALIFAX, Va. - Lonnie Rae Wood Ragsdale, 60, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston.
She was married
to John Ragsdale, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of Halifax, include three daughters, Brennetta Williams of Chesapeake, Cassondrus Ragsdale of Halifax and Lisa Harris of Greensboro, N.C.; one granddaughter and five brothers, John Wood, Isaac Wood Jr., Claude Wood, Arthur Wood and Billy Wood.
The funeral will be held 12 noon Tuesday at Power of Faith Christian Center in Halifax with Bishop Walter Roach officiating. Interment
will follow at Union Grove C.M.E. Church cemetery in South Boston.
Viewing will be held 11 a.m. at the church.

Tommy Rowland
DANVILLE, Va. - Tommy Lee Rowland, 60, of 124 Longview Court, Danville, Virginia, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the residence after four months of declining health.
Born September 11, 1940, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Robert Hubbard Rowland, deceased, and Irene Aaron Rowland, deceased.
He was first married
to the former Martha Barbour, who died May 12, 1999 and later married
the former Betty Pruitt, who survives. Mr. Rowland had lived his entire life in Danville and was retired from International Paper, where he had worked as an electrician for 32 years. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Brenda Kay Rowland.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Pruitt Rowland of the Residence; son, Jerry Lee Rowland of Danville; daughter-in-law, Lisa Jones Rowland of Danville; step-daughters, Tammy Surrant of Danville and Pam Bolder of Chatham; step-son, Steven Ray Barbour of California; brother, Cedric Rowland of Danville; sisters, Doris Francis of Danville and Linda R. Bray of Danville; granddaughter, Brandi Nicole Rowland; step grandchildren; Beth Surrant, Nelson Shelton and Dakota Bolden. Also surviving are four nieces and three nephews.
The funeral will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 28, at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with The Reverend Don Davidson officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
