DANVILLE, Va. - Anthony Lamont Luck, 28, of 124 White St., died Monday, May 14, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 26, 1972, in Danville, he was the son of Tessie Luck Burns, who survives.
He was a former employee of Eden Yarn and was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in the Persian Gulf War.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of Danville, include one son, Barry Massie of Danville; one sister, Samantha Coles of Danville and three brothers, Dwayne Luck and Marcus Luck, both of Danville and Walter Coles III of Coeburn.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel. Interment
will follow at Oak Hill cemetery.

Douglas Moore Jr.
EMPORIA, Va. - Douglas Owen Moore Jr., 42, died May 16, 2001.
Survivors include one son, Matthew Dustin Moore of Danville and paternal grandmother, Grace Baker Moore of Orange Park, Fla.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Gardens of Emporia cemetery in Emporia.

BEAR, Del. - Kevin McCreary Moore, 23, of 30th St. George Terrace, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, in Bear.
Born Oct. 26, 1977, in Delaware, he was the son of Calvin Moore and Lynette Brown Moore, who survive.
Survivors, in addition to his parents of Bear, include one brother, Christopher Moore of Bear; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Moore of Penhook, Va. and maternal grandfather, Norris Brown of Portsmouth, Va.
He was predeceased by paternal grandfather, Avery Moore and maternal grandmother, Bettie Brown.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Mt. Parrish Baptist Church in Penhook, Va. with Dr. Samuel Easley officiating.

Jessie Polk
CHATHAM, Va. - Jessie J. Polk, 65, of 1152 North Main St., died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at the residence.
Born July 26, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Callie Polk.
He was married
to Barbara Polk, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two step-children, Joe Barbour Jr. of Gretna and Kirzah Hargrove of Gladys; two brothers, Ira Polk Jr. of Java and Howard Lee Polk of Vernon Hill; four sisters, Yolanda Polk, Mary M. Polk and Hilda Polk, all of Vernon Hill and Clara Polk of Keeling and eight step-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Howerton Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Walter Anderson officiating. Interment
will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Burial Park.
Viewing will be held 3-7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. -Macie Moore Pulliam, 87, of 321 Berry Hill Road, died May 17, 2001, at the residence.
Born Sept. 16, 1913, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Albert Lee Moore and Sallie Bett Griffin Moore.
She was married
to James Andrew Pulliam, who predeceased her. She was a member of Revelation Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Macie Pulliam Roberts of South Boston and Nellie Pulliam Keaton of South Boston and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Fulenwider and the Rev. Bill Lawall officiating. Interment
will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Samuel Robertson
RICHMOND, Va. - Samuel Ray Robertson, 54, formerly of 788 East Paxton Ave., died Saturday, May 12, 2001, in Richmond.
Born Aug. 18, 1946, in Danville, he was the son of Buford Robertson and Nannie Glass Robertson, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of Harrisburg, Pa., include three daughters, Michelle, Mary Helen and Samile; five sons, Donnell, Mark, Corby, Samuel Ray and Rashad; three sisters, Barbara Montgomery, Carolyn Spence and Janette Robertson, all of Harrisburg, Pa.; three brothers, Buford Robertson Jr., Tyrone Robertson and George Robertson Harrison, all of Danville.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday, at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Younger officiating. Interment
will follow at Oak Hill cemetery.

Earl Spencer
CHATHAM, Va. - Earl Jackson Spencer, age 77, a retired faculty member of Hargrave Military Academy, died at his residence 319 Peach Street, Tuesday May 15, 2001 after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Spencer was born at Narrows, VA January 23, 1924. A son of Frank Ray Spencer and Minnie Cawley Spencer, he grew up in Narrows and joined the Air Corps after graduation from high school. He served in the Air Corps from 1942 until 1945, seeing action in Europe and earning the Bronze Star for meritorious service. Upon his return, he met and married
Eva Hardwick in June, 1946.
He received his BA degree from the University of Richmond and began teaching at Hargrave Military Academy in 1951. He served in the Air Force Reserve as a Major, was an active member of Watson Memorial United Methodist Church, the Chatham Lions Club, and was elected to the Chatham Town Council for two terms. He was a member and Past Master of Pittsylvania Lodge #24. A.F. & A.M.
He is survived by his wife, Eva H. Spencer of the residence; a son Hardwick Ray Spencer of Baltimore, MD, a daughter, Earlene Ridella, and son-in-law John Ridella, of Cary, NC; a granddaughter, Mary Douglass of Holly Springs, NC; a sister Kathryn S. Wilkinson of Narrows, VA; two step granddaughters, Jacquie DeLoach of New Hill, NC, and Jennifer Watson of Cary, NC.
A committal service will be conducted at Fairview cemetery, 3300 Melrose Avenue Roanoke, VA Thursday, May 17, 2001 at 10:00 AM by Mr. Spencer’s nephew, the Rev. Byron Wilkinson, of Alexandria, Va. A memorial service will be conducted, Thursday, May 17, 2001 at Watson Memorial United Methodist Church in Chatham, VA at 4:00 PM by the Rev. Byron Ray Wilkinson and the Rev. Charles W. Wickham, pastor of Watson Memorial United Methodist Church.
His family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Watson Memorial United Methodist Church building fund or Hargrave Military Academy.

Charles Adams
DANVILLE, Va. - Charles Herbert Adams, 72, of 557 Willow Briar Lane, died May 26, 2001, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C. after one month in the hospital.
Born Dec. 7, 1928, in Graham, N.C., he was the son of Herbert M. Adams and Lela Cox Adams.
He was married
May 3, 1952, to Jo Ann Bateman Adams. He was a member of Brosville United Methodist Church and served on the Official Board and as chairman of several committees. He was president of the United Methodist Mens Group and a member of the choir, Brosville Junior Order and former member of Brosville Ruritan Club and Danville Lions Club. He had owned and operated Adams Electronic Service in the Brosville Community since 1971. He served in the United States Army, Marines and Air Force, retiring from the Air Force in 1971 after 22 years of Military service.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of Danville, include two daughters, Vickie A. Casey of Greensboro, N.C. and Elizabeth Anne "Betsey" Adams of High Point, N.C.; one son, Charles H. Adams Jr. of Martinsville Va.; three brothers, William R. Adams of Graham, N.C., Connie M. Adams of Burlington, N.C. and Lawrence Adams of Eden, N.C.; two sisters, Doris A. Tucker of Burlington, N.C. and Betty A. Jones of Alamance, N.C.; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by two brothers, Thomas Adams and Kenneth Adams and one sister, Judy A. Murray.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Dave Rochford officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens with Military Honors performed by United States Air Force Honor Guard, Pope Air Force Base.

ROANOKE, Va. - Inez Blair Anderson, 83, of 3804 Brandon Ave. S.W., died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at Lewis Gale Hospital.
Born Dec. 10, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Wade Thomas Blair Sr. and Elsie Martin Blair.
She was married
Sept. 21, 1940, to Walter Bailey Anderson, who predeceased her May 16, 1998. She was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was employed with the Danville Public School system and at her retirement was a secretary at George Washington High School.
Survivors include one brother, Wade Thomas Blair Jr. of the Hinesville Community and one sister, Doris Blair Walters of Durham, N.C.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one sister, Ruth Blair Hardy.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Bennett officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery.

HALIFAX, Va. - Barbara Dejarnette Bagwell, 84, of 1027 Mountain Road died May 21, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born March 4, 1917, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Walker Dejarnette and Virginia Blair Dejarnette.
She was married
to Don Pyle Bagwell Sr., who predeceased her. She was a member of Beth Car Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Cherry Bagwell Bourque and Mary Laetitia Bagwell, both of Washington, D.C.; two sons, George H. Bagwell of South Boston and Don P. Bagwell Jr. of South Boston and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beth Car Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Stewart and the Rev. Dr. Melvin Bradshaw officiating. Interment

DANVILLE, Va. - Elizabeth Ann Moore Jones Barker "Gone to be with her Lord and Saviour," 66, of 582 Elizabeth Street, Ext., Danville, VA, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 - 7:20 p.m. at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 13, 1934, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, she was the daughter of Eston P. Moore & Sadie Gauldin Moore (Both deceased).
She was married
first to Douglas Roy Jones (deceased) and second to Eugene Wesley Barker, Sr. (living). Mrs. Barker spent most of her life in Danville. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church & taught Sun. School. She also worked with Vacation Bible School, worked in the nursery and sang in the choir. She was in declining health for 5 years.
Survivors include Sons: Jerry Wayne Jones of Ringgold, VA, Douglas Ray Jones of Pelham, NC and Eugene "Pete" Barker of Spring Hill, FL; Daughters: Patricia B. Daniels of Danville, VA and Beverly B. Shelton of Danville, VA; Sister: Jean M. White of Danville, VA; Grandchildren: Anthony Saunders, Amy Jones, Jeremy Jones, Amanda Barker, Samantha Barker and Patrick Shelton.
He was predeceased by Brother: Jimmy Moore and Sister: Alease Powell.
The funeral will be held Saturday, May 26, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with The Rev. J. Richard Markham & The Rev. Henry Taylor officiating. Burial will take place at Schoolfield cemetery.
