Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

William Pyrtle

RINGGOLD, Va. - William Edgar Pyrtle, 81, of 368 Hundred Acre Road, died Friday, May 25, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after seven months of declining health and ten days in the hospital.
Born Jan. 14, 1920, in Axton, he was the son of Robert William Pyrtle and Lora May Herndon Pyrtle.
He lived most of his life in Danville where he worked at Dan River Inc. for 42 years before his retirement due to disability. He was a member of Gateway Baptist Church at Ringgold and the Poquoson Tribe No. 124 Improved Order of Redman.
Survivors include four daughters, Nancy Pyrtle Revis, Elaine Pyrtle Ritch and Sheila Pyrtle, all of Danville and Sandra Pyrtle Grant of Rocky Mount; two sons, Dennis Pyrtle and Rodger M. Pyrtle, both of Danville; four sisters, Elma Nostrandt and Josie Martin, both of Ringgold, Lucy Brooks of Chatham and Doris A. Lemieux of Flint, Mich.; one brother, James Pyrtle of Axton; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one son, David W. Pyrtle; one brother, Walter S. Pyrtle; one sister, Ruth Nichols and two grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Gilmore Hundley officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Nancy Revis, 155 James Road.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Rowland

CALLANDS, Va. - Patricia Ann Abbott Rowland, 35, of 328 Late Road, died Monday, May 29, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Born June 15, 1965, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of Eddie Furman Abbott and Joan Day Abbott Osborne, who survives.
She was married to Robert Dean Rowland, who survives. She was a member of New Bethel Church of the Brethren.
Survivors, in addition to her mother of Callands and husband of Milton, N.C., include two sons, Robert Dean Rowland II and Joshua Nathan Rowland, both of Callands; one daughter, Dakota Jean Rowland of Callands and three sisters, Peggy Abbott Huff of Chatham, Robyn Osborne Galvin of Cascade and Tracy Harber Adkins of Callands.
She was predeceased, in addition to her father, by one brother, Robert "Robby" Osborne Jr.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Scott Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Bullock Jr. and Curtis English officiating. Interment icon will follow at New Bethel Church of the Brethren cemetery in Pittsylvania County.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Scott Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Christine Scearce

MABLETON, Ga. - Christine H. Scearce, 67, died Monday, May 21, 2001.
She was married to David F. Scearce, who survives. She grew up in Danville, Va. and graduated from Baltimore High School in 1950 with honors. She graduated from the University of Maryland in 1968 with a degree in education and taught elementary school in Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina before her retirement in 1990. She was a member of Highest Praise Church of God, formerly Mableton Church of God.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include one daughter, Kimberly Dawn Pospisil of Yuma, Ariz.; two sons, David Christopher Scearce of Hampton, Va. and Michael D. Scearce of Mableton; one sister, Dorothy Coleman of Charlotte, N.C. and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Stallings officiating. Interment icon will follow at Ga. Memorial Park cemetery.
The family will receive friends 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Janet Stegall

FORT MILL, S.C. - Janet Blaney Stegall, 78, formerly of Fort Mill, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Countryside Manor in Stokesdale, N.C.
Born April 24, 1923, in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of Charles and Lillian Blaney.
She was married to Linson Lee Stegall, who predeceased her. She was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, a veteran of World War II and co-owner of Low Country Marble in Myrtle Beach.
Survivors include two sons, Mark Stegall of Danville, Va. and Gary Stegall of Conway; one daughter, Lynn Stegall of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandchildren and two sisters, Marie Quick and Dorothy Strezze, both of Columbus, Ohio.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one son, Ken Stegall.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Wolfe Funeral Home with Rev. John Fastenau officiating. Interment icon will follow at Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28215.

Hazel Taylor

DRY FORK, Va. - Hazel Young Taylor, 87, of 160 Pritchett Farm Road, died Friday, May 25, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after 12 years of declining health and being in serious condition for two months.
Born April 22, 1914, in Franklin County in the Henry community, she was the daughter of Charlie Young and Fannie Young.
She was married to Wilson Taylor, who predeceased her in 1975. She had lived in Dry Fork for the past 22 years and was a member of Swansonville United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Taylor Pritchett and Goldie Taylor Pritchett, both of Dry Fork and Shirley Taylor Wright of Gretna; one son, Earl D. Taylor of Bossier City, La.; two sisters, Mabel Stanley of Rocky Mount and Bert Bowles of Roanoke; one brother, Everett Young of Rocky Mount; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Williams and the Rev. Linwood Daniel officiating. Interment icon will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lyndon Taylor

HOPEWELL, Va. - Lyndon Lori Graham Taylor, 79, of Madison St., died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at the residence.
Born in Eden, she was the daughter of Howard L. and Bessie Clark Graham.
She was married to Andrew Perry Taylor, who predeceased her. She had lived in Hopewell since 1966 and was a member of Women of The Moose No. 1296, Dinwiddie and served as a past Senior Regent.
Survivors include five daughters, Doris M. Seaver of Farmville, Frances E. Fulton of Hopewell, Mary L. Brown of Prince George, Sarah Dailey of Ford and Viva L. Merry of Petersburg; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest W. Graham of Prince George; one half brother, Robie Graham of California an one half sister, Rodie Podany of Connecticut.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Crocker and the Rev. Chris Konicki officiating. Interment icon will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George County.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, VA 23226.

Willie Warren

DANVILLE, Va. - Willie Lee Warren, 71, of 94 Fairfield Ave., died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three months of declining health.
Born April 2, 1930, in Providence, N.C., he was the son of Corrie Warren and Lillie Gibbs Warren.
He was married to Margie Scearce Warren, who survives. He lived in Danville for the past 46 years and worked at Goodyear as a blender operator for 23 years before retiring at the age of 62. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Gary L. Warren of Blairs and Donnie R. Warren of Summerfield, N.C.; three sisters, Clarice Brooks, Ruby Hudson and Marie Bryant, all of Danville; two brothers, Carson Warren of Woodbridge and Nelson Warren of Alexandria; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one brother, Bobby Warren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Crumpton officiating. Interment icon will follow at Schoolfield cemetery with military honors performed by American Legion, Dan River Post No. 1097 Honor Guard.
The family received friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

William Werner

Salem, Va. - William “Bill“ Werner of Salem, Virginia passed away Friday, May 18 at his residence in Salem. He is survived by his wife Sudie Walton Werner.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday, May 21 at 1 p.m. at Highland Burial Park in Danville.

Lewis Womack

DANVILLE, Va. - Elder Lewis Richard Womack Jr., 79, of 106 Oakvale Circle, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at the residence.
Born Jan. 5, 1922, in Halifax County, he was the son of Lewis Richard Womack Sr. and Bessie Mitchell Womack.
He was married to Myrtle L. Womack, who survives. He was an employee of Bassett Furniture Company before his retirement and had been a minister at the Temple of Christ Holiness Church in Milton, N.C.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one son, Claude Brandon of Danville and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Temple of Christ Holiness Church in Milton, N.C. with Elder Overseer Steve Perkins officiating. Interment icon will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the residence.
Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James Wright

DANVILLE, Va. - James William Wright, 68, of 185 Millerton Road, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Stratford Health Care Center after one month of declining health.
Born Aug. 16, 1932, in Roxboro, N.C., he was the son of Clay Wright and Alma Daniel Wright, who survives.
He was married to Tamara Metzger Wright, who survives. He had lived in Danville for the past eight years, having previously lived in Colorado Springs, Colo. for 18 years. He was retired from the United States Army as a Master Sgt. after 26 years of active service and two years with the North Carolina National Guard. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and later retired from Digital Equipment Corporation where he worked as an export supervisor.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence and mother of Roxboro, N.C., include one son, Victor C. Wright of Danville; one daughter, Elva B. Wright of Bristol, England; one sister, Faye Coates of Roxboro, N.C. and one granddaughter.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Salisbury National cemetery in Salisbury, N.C.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel.
Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Combs

RINGGOLD, Va. - Mary Christine Meeks Combs, 67, of 5590 Tom Fork Road, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C., after two months of declining health.
Born May 25, 1934, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of George W. Meeks and Alice Elizabeth Wilson Meeks.
She was married to John F. Meeks, who survives. She lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County and worked as a waitress before her retirement. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include one son, Eldridge "Dink" Combs of Danville; one daughter, Cindy Combs of Danville; two brothers, Eldridge Meeks of Cascade and Jack Meeks of Danville, Ill., and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one brother, George W. Meeks Jr.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Gilmore Hundley officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence.
