Audrey Carmichael
DANVILLE, Va. - Audrey Hyler Carmichael, age 78, of 1389 Horseshoe Road, died early Thursday morning June 7, 2001, at her residence after one year of declining health.
Mrs. Carmichael was born in Pittsylvania County on October 8, 1922, a daughter of the late Drewry Hyler and Myrtle Mae Green Hyler.
She was married
to Chester Norwood Carmichael, a veteran of World War II, who predeceased her on August 6, 1996.
Mrs. Carmichael had made her home in the Brosville area of Pittsylvania County all of her life where she was a loving wife, devoted daughter who spent her life caring for her family and friends. She worked at Dan River, Inc., for 44 years and was a member of Vandola Baptist Church.
Survivors include two brothers: Drew Hyler and Nelson Hyler both of Brosville.
She was predeceased by a sister, Catheryne Mathes, and a brother, Robert “Pete” Hyler.
Even though she had no children, she is survived by seven nieces, four nephews, 13 grandnieces, and five grandnephews, all of whom considered her a second mother.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bill J. Soyars and Rev. Robert F. Hardy. Interment
will follow at the Hyler/Green Family cemetery on the Horseshoe Road in Brosville. The family received friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., and at other times at the residence.

Leona Dennis
DANVILLE, Va. - Leona Cordill Dennis, 79, of 204 Park Circle, died Friday, June 8, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 13, 1921, in Raven, she was a daughter of James A. Cordill and Eva Short Cordill.
She was married
to Woodrow A. Dennis, who predeceased her. She had resided in Cooper, Texas with her husband before moving to Danville to live with her sister and her husband. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church, Cooper, Texas and attended Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Danville.
Survivors include two sisters, Gladys Cordill Rose of Raven and Hazel Cordill Eanes of Danville.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one brother, J.E. Cordill, and two sisters, Myrtle Cordill Ball and Ethel Cordill Ball.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. S.W. “Steve“ Nestor officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Eanes, 204 Park Circle.

Bobby Evans
DANVILLE, Va. - Bobby Lee Evans, 58, of 432 Hemitage Drive, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 15, 1943, in Danville, he was the son of Millard Blake Evans and Evelyn Margaret Gosney Evans.
He was a member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher. He was a member of the American Legion Post 325. He was retired due to disability from the Pittsylvania County School System where he worked as a maintenance foreman. He graduated with honors from Averett College where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He was a Veteran in the United States Army.
Survivors include two brothers, Roy Evans of Danville and Larry Evans of Blairs; two sisters, Margaret E. Nealy of Blairs and Lana E. Shelton of Chatham.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Laurel Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Collins and the Rev. Bill Soyars officiating. Interment
will follow at Laurel Grove Baptist Church, Sutherlin.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence of Roy Evans, 131 Clarkson St, Danville.

Lillie Benn Roberts Harrison
GRETNA, Va. - Lillie Benn Roberts Harrison, age 82, of 1896 East Gretna Road, Gretna was called to her eternal resting place Friday, June 8, 2001. She was the widow of Howard “Bill” Harrison.
Born September 7, 1918, in Murphy, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late John and Ollie Coleman Roberts. Lillie was the last surviving member of this family of fourteen children. Besides these siblings, she was predeceased by one son, Larry Kent Harrison; one daughter, Mary Kathryn “Kathy” and one grandson, Jay Oakes.
Lillie is survived by four loving daughters, Dorothy Gibson of Rustburg, Annette Thompson of Gretna, Margaret Smith of Gretna and Renea Harrison of Rustburg; she also leaves to mourn her loss a devoted son-in-law, Willie Thompson, who treated her as his own Mother for many, many years and a newly acquired, devoted son-in-law, Benjamin Marantz of Gretna. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Chuck Shelton of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Dwayne Gibson of Rustburg, Penny Wright of Swansboro, NC, Stacey Thompson of Florence, SC, Lisa Collins of Callands, Lori Ricketts of Danville and Sean Franklin of Santa Rosa, CA; six great-grandchildren, Sabrina and Malerie Shelton, Cody and Dusty Gibson, Joseph McGhee and Hannah Ricketts; also, three step-great grandchildren, Mark Mayhugh, Keith and Krystal Collins.
Lillie was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church and a homemaker for her entire life, completely dedicated to raising her six children and a few of her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2001 at Greenfield Baptist Church by the Rev. R.G. Rowland. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.

Henry Hudson
VIRGILINA, Va. - Henry Paige Hudson, 72, of 11065 Bill Tuck Hwy., died Friday, June 8, 2001 at the residence.
Born April 25, 1929, he was the son of Giles Stover Hudson and Annie Gertrude Martin Griffin. He was married
to Arlene N. Hudson, who survives. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Aarons Creek Gun and Supply.
He was a member of Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one son, Page Douglas Hudson Sr. of Clarksville; two stepbrothers, Creston C. Griffin of South Boston and Bobby Edward Griffin of Virgilina; one stepsister, Annie Lee “Cookie” Langford of Roxboro, N.C., and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one daughter, Connie Gayle Hudson.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle cemetery, Buffalo Junction with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiationg.

Raymond Moore
DANVILLE, Va. - Raymond J. Moore, 76, of 798 Melrose Ave., died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after five days in the hospital.
Born Dec. 29, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Luther Joel Moore and Sallie Will Ferguson Moore.
He was married
May 15, 1942, to Evelyn Dowdy Moore, who survives. He moved from the county to Vinton, where he lived until the age of 12, when he moved to Danville. He was an employee of Schewel Furniture, having served as manager of the store until his retirement, after which he worked part time in managerial capacity. He was a long time active member of Gideons International and a member of the Shermont Baptist Church. He was an United States Army veteran, having served during World War II in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and central Europe.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include three brothers, Charles Moore and Thomas Moore, both of Salem, and Marshall Moore of Christiansburg, and two sisters, Ruth Moore Papa of Ellacot City, Md., and Iris Moore Dooley of York, S.C.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Bill Soyars officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Mary Moore
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Crowder Moore, 84, of 196 Sunset Drive, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at the residence after six months of declining health.
Born Oct. 2, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of James Crowder and Althea Shelton Crowder.
She was married
to Herman Taylor Moore, who predeceased her Feb. 9, 1994. She lived all of her life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. She worked for Dan River Inc. in the former Riverside Division as a weaver before her retirement in 1976. She was a member of Riverview Baptist Church where she was a former piano player.
Survivors include one daughter, Liz R. Thompson of Danville; two sons, Charlie J. Royster of Dry Fork and Ronald W. Royster of Danville; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Riverview Baptist Church with the Rev. Duane Blevins and the Rev. Henry W. Taylor officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Carl Myers
SANDY LEVEL, Va. - Carl Thomas Myers, 71, of 2747 Graves Bridge Road, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Veterans Medical Center in Salem.
Born May 8, 1930, in Roanoke County, he was the son of Irvin Myers and Katie Graves Myers.
He was married
to Louise Crews Myers, who survives. He attended Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church, was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of American Legion Post No. 232. He was employed by M and W Windows in Rocky Mount before his retirement.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include two sons, Carl Dwayne Myers and Jason Irvin Myers, both of Sandy Level; two sisters, Marion Doran of Wytheville and Shirley Williams of Richmond, and one grandson.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one sister, Claudine Hogan.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. James Tallent, the Rev. A.W. Smith and the Rev. Woodrow Tuck officiating. Interment
will follow at Myers Family cemetery with military honors performed by V.F.W. Post 4165 and D.A.V. Chapter 46.

Ben Petty
BLAIRS, Va. - Ben Petty, 45, of 561 McNicholas Lane, died on Malmason Road as the result of an automobile accident.
Born Jan. 9, 1956, he was the son of Nellie Ferguson Petty, who survives, and William Petty.
He worked as a farmer.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of Blairs, include one brother, Raymond Petty of Blairs, and three sisters, Geraldine Dickerson and Estelle Woods, both of Danville, and Flossie Sankitts of Charleston, S.C.

HALIFAX, Va. - Mary Hester Whitt Reagan, 89, of 1218 Golf Course Road, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 29, 1911, in Granville County, N.C., she was the daughter of Nebu Chadnezzar "Nep" Whitt and Mattie Sue Gravitt Whitt.
She was married
to Luther Merritt Reagan Sr., who predeceased her. She worked for Burlington Industries until her retirement and was a member of Revelation Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Onard Albright Reagan of Halifax, Ruby Chadnezzar Reagan of South Boston, James Aster Reagan Sr. and Tincy Norwood Reagan, both of Alton; two brothers, Raymond Chadnezzar Whitt of Riverside, Calif., and Henry Addison "H.A." Whitt of Holiday, Fla.; four sisters, Goldie Virginia W. Lowery of Graham, N.C., Elsie Francis Whitt and Shirley Jean W. Conner, both of South Boston and Mattie Beddie W. Jones of Chatham; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by three sons, Armstead Thomas Reagan, Luther Merritt Reagan Jr. and William C. "Billy" Reagan Sr.; two brothers, Emerson Lindenburg Whitt and William Riley Whitt; two sisters, Lucille Rebecca Whitt and Annie Bob Whitt, and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shady Grove U.M.C. cemetery in Virgilina with the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Onard Reagan, 1214 Golf Course Road in Halifax.
