Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Wesley Collins

DANVILLE, Va. - Wesley Ray Collins, 81, of 317 Meadowood Lane, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at the residence.
Born June 18, 1920, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Kim Collins and Kate Collins Thompson.
He was married to Lillian Pickeral Collins, who survives. He was retired from Dan River Mills Inc. and was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one daughter, Joyce Collins Lewis of Ruffin, N.C., two sisters, Janie Gregory of Ruffin, N.C., and Dee Gregory of Danville, and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one brother, Randy Collins.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mountain View cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Deal officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

John Covington

CHATHAM, Va. - John Junior Covington, 66, of 19301 Franklin Tpke., died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Avante Nursing Home in Roanoke.
Born Nov. 15, 1934, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Horace Covington and Ida Witcher Covington.
He was married to Karen M. Covington, who survives. He was employed by W.M. Bassett in Martinsville and attended Schoolfield Primitive Baptist Church in Callands.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Frenzella Moon of Altavista and Linda Gail Reynolds of Rustburg; two sons, John Glen Covington of Lynchburg and Keith O’Brien Covington of Richmond; one stepson, Bruce Mchimer of Martinsville; one sister, Ida Bell Turner of Rocky Mount; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one brother, Percy Covington.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Dean Harris and Elder E.A. Edwards officiating. Interment icon will follow at Cosby-Edwards Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Melvin Durham

DANVILLE, Va. - Melvin Quentin Durham, 75, of 227 Birchwood Road, Danville, died Monday, June 18, 2001 in Piney Forest Health Care Center. He was the husband of Rachel Finch Durham.
Born April 21, 1926, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Aubra Melville and Florentina Rook Durham. He was a member of Melville Avenue Baptist Church where he was a deacon for over 30 years and former Sunday School teacher and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Mr. Durham was retired from Diston.
In addition to his wife is survived by two daughters, Kittye D. Gibson of Lynchburg and Sherey D. Thompson of Denton, TX; one brother, Kenneth Durham of Danville; one sister, Marie D. Fitzgerald of Danville; three grandchildren, Niki Massie, Brad Gibson and Rachel Thompson.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Durham and Raymond Durham; one sister Nellie D. Pritchett.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 20, 2001 in Melville Avenue Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Swanson. Burial will follow in the Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Street Chapel Danville, from 7-8:30 PM Tuesday and other times at the residence.
The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider Melville Avenue Baptist Church, 745 Melville Avenue, Danville, VA 24540.

Raymond Fitz

BASSETT, Va. - Raymond Ed Fitz, 73, of 776 Crestview Drive, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at the residence.
Born April 7, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Sam William Fitz and Amanda Motely Fitz.
He was married to Pearl Fitz, who predeceased him.
Survivors include two daughters, Cowanda Tinsely and Angel Fitz, both of Bassett; one son, Darnell Fitz of Bland County; one sister, Lois Woods of Danville; two brothers, Bernard Fitz of Blairs and Teddy Fitz Sr. of Danville.
The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel, 707 Wilson St, Danville. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Irene Haymore

DANVILLE, Va. - Irene Hyler Haymore, 65, of 413 Oak Hill Road, died Friday June 15, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after two years of declining health.
Born Sept. 19, 1935 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Bobby A. Hyler Sr. and Helen Haley Hyler.
She was married to Melvin L. Haymore, who survives. She had lived her entire life in the Brosville community and worked as a seamstress for many years. She was retired from Riverside Health Care Center where she worked as activities director. After she retired, she continued as a volunteer with classes and activites. She was also a member of the Senior Citizen’s Quilting Club and served as a volunteer at the Stonewall Special Population Center. She was a charter member of the Welcome Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for a number of years.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include three sons, Donnie W. Haymore and Randall E. Haymore both of Danville and Melvin A. Haymore of Cascade; six sisters, Edna Mitchell, Betty Loeb, Linda Turner, Joyce Gryder, Virginia Murphy all of Danville, and Mary Fitch of Middle River, Md.; three brothers, Raymond Hyler of Keeling, Herman Hyler and Bobby A. Hyler Jr. both of Danville; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by two brothers, William S. Hyler and Terrance B. Hyler.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001 at Welcome Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Hussey and the Rev. Clayton Murphy officiating. Interment icon will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and will receive other times at the residence.

Janie Irby

GRETNA, Va. - Janie Walton Irby, 53, of 1444 Renan Road, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born May 9, 1948,in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Charlie J. Walton and Mary Callands Walton.
She was last employed as a lineman at A.O. Smith in Altavista and was a member of the Mt. Airy Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Cook of Gretna and Tracy Irby of Petersburg; three sisters, Delois Webb of Gretna, Elois Crews of Nathalie and Brenda Shelton of Petersburg and one granddaughter.
The funeral service will be conducted 12 noon Tuesday at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert P. King Sr. officiating. Interment icon will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Lizzie Kendrick

DANVILLE, Va. - Lizzie Gibson Kendrick, 89, of 86 Baltimore Ave., died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Piney Forest Healthcare Center.
Born Dec. 29, 1911, in Callands, she was the daughter of Foard Gibson and Rosa Rigney Gibson.
She was married to Roosevelt M. Kendrick, who predeceased her Jan. 27, 1983. She lived in Danville since 1969 and worked as a private sitter for Roman Eagle Memorial Home for seven years. She was a member of Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include one son, Bobby Kendrick of Martinsville; one sister, Essie Bryan of Danville; three brothers, Irvin Gibson and Robert Gibson, both of Danville, and Neal Gibson of Roanoke; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one son, Obie Kendrick, two sisters, Vera Collins and Catherine Hopkins, and two brothers, Russell Gibson and Aubery Gibson.
The funeral will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Church of God of Prophecy on Baltimore Avenue with the Rev. Charles Hawkins and the Rev. Clyde Crowder officiating. Interment icon will follow at Kendrick Family cemetery in Callands.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Ralph Lumpkins

DANVILLE, Va. - Ralph Eugene Lumpkins, 50, of 524 West Main St., Apt. No. 1, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 12, 1951, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Eugene Arwood Lumpkins and Irene Wyatt Lumpkins, who survives.
He lived in Chatham for many years before moving to Danville. He worked for City of Danville Public Works for 27 years before becoming disabled in 1999.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of the residence, include one half-brother, Ray Mills of Blairs, and one half-sister, Nancy B. Motley of Colonial Heights.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDowell Family cemetery near Climax with the Rev. William Bates officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Danville Cancer Association, 1225 West Main St., Danville, VA 24541.

Ruby McCubbins

DANVILLE, Va. - Ruby Lynskey McCubbins, age 89, formerly of 836 Gemstone Lane, died Saturday afternoon June 16, 2001 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after a decline in Health for several years. She had resided at Roman Eagle Memorial Home for three months.
Mrs. McCubbins was born in Pittsylvania County on December 11, 1911, a daughter of the late Patrick Emmett Lynskey and Lou Soyars Lynskey. She was married to Lesley Holland McCubbins who died in September, 1999.
Mrs. McCubbins spent most of her life in the Brosville community of Pittsylvania County where she was a homemaker and worked a number of years at the Brosville Cannery. She was a member of Vandola Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years including the Ladies Bible Class. She was a former W.M.U. President serving for many years, and served on various other committees at the church.
Survivors include one sister, Macie L. Earp of Danville, and two nieces: Lynette T. Clapp of Norfolk, and Joy D. Biggs of Danville, and one nephew: Eugene W. Taylor of Union Hall.
She was predeceased by three sisters: Pearl L. Davis, Opal L. Taylor, and Garnet S. Lynskey.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Rick Lancaster and the Rev. Dr. J. Leroy Clack. Interment icon will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive frinds at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 P.M.. Memorial contributions may be made to Vandola Baptist Church, 1950 Vandola Church Road, Danville, VA 24541 or to the charity of your choice.

Mary Meeler

ROANOKE, Va. - Mary Virginia Bass Meeler, age 53, of 7723 Autumn Park Drive, Roanoke died Thursday, June 14, 2001. She was born May 20, 1948, in Danville, Virginia, a daughter of Benjamin Wade Bass and Wanda Wall Bass. On June 24, 1967, she was married to E. Hopson Meeler Jr., who survives.
Mrs. Meeler had lived in Ohio, Texas, Georgia and most recently in Roanoke, Virginia. She was a graduate of George Washington High School and the Smithdale Massey Business College. She was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Roanoke.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, of the residence and parents of Danville, include two daughters, Amy Meeler Monaghan and her husband, Daniel Monaghan of Dayton, Ohio and Ashley Meeler Stathatos and her husband James Stathatos of Roanoke, Texas; a sister, Pam Blair and her husband, Walt Blair of Myrtle Beach, SC and four grandchildren, Elizabeth Monaghan, Parker Stathatos, Benjamin Stathatos and Trevor Stathatos.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 18, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Reverend Fielder and the Reverend Ross L. Range, Sr. Interment icon will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends Sunday, June 17, 2001 from 7:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home and will receive friends other times at the residence of the parents, 9400 Martinsville Highway, Danville.

Malcolm Moorman

DANVILLE, Va. - Malcolm “Mike” Dlanio Moorman, 42, of 435 Brentwood Drive, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 21, 1959, in Martinsville, he was the son of Malcom Dlanio Moorman and Dorothy Moorman Clark, who survives.
He was married to Faye Wilson Moorman, who survives. He worked for Dan River Inc. before a decline in health.
Survivors, in addition to his wife and mother, include one daughter, Taylor Joyce Moorman; one brother, Percy Moorman of Seatlle, Wash., and six sisters, Linda M. Noble, Carolyn M. Garrett and Rosetta Moorman, all of Danville, Patsy Ann Law, Shirley Moorman and Robin M. Dodson, all of Richmond.
The funeral will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Temple Apostolic Church on Memorial Drive with Bishop Robert Tapper officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Anthony Garrett, 1703 North Main St.
