HOMESTEAD, Fl. - Reba Ruth Knott, 70, died Thursday, June 21, 2001.
She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio.
She was married
to D. Harold Knott, who survives. She moved to Callands, Va. when she was five years old. She lived there until she married
and moved to Florida. She taught school in the Maryland and Virginia areas, later moving to Florida where she taught for 19 years at Pinelawn Elementary School in Dade County. She was a member of the Redlands Community Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of Homestead, include two sons, David Knott Jr. and Gregory Reynolds Knott; one sister, Elaine Morris, and two grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Palms Woodlawn Funeral Home 27100 Old Dixie Highway, Naranja.

Gloria Lindsey
DANVILLE, Va. - Gloria Farmer Lindsey, 66, of 1439 Claiborne St., died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 6, 1934 in Danville, she was a daughter of Taft Farmer and Ella Farmer.
She was employed by Lorillard for many years prior to her retirement.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Farmer and Debra Thomas, both of Danville; three sons, David Lindsey of Danville, Donald Lindsey of Greensboro, N.C., Verlenny Lindsey of Tampa, Fl. and one sister, Nannie Johns of Danville.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one brother, Taft Farmer Jr. and one sister, Viola Farmer.
The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Monday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Bishop Major Hairston officiating. Interment
will follow at the Highland Burial Park cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Richard Linens
DANVILLE, Va. - Richard Lee Linens, 65, of 289 Lakeside Drive, died Sunday, June 24, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 28, 1935, in Halifax County, he was the son of Robert Lee Linens and Sally Carter Linens.
He was married
Oct. 29, 1956, to Shirley Davis Linens, who survives. He was a member of Ingram United Church of Christ and also a member of AARP.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include two sons, Robert Lee Linens of Wilmington, N.C. and David Wayne Linens of Nashville, Tenn.; three daughters, Teresa L. Terry of Danville, Vicki L. Bailey of Virginia Beach and Charlene L. Tolbert of Eden, N.C.; one brother, John Robert Linens of Danville; one sister, Violet Kates of South Boston; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Nester officiating.
Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Norma Miller
DANVILLE, Va. - Norma Lynn Mays Miller, 86, of 160 Ashwood Place and resident of Riverside HCC for the past three months, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, after three days in the hospital.
Born Jan. 7, 1915, in Chestnut Level community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Willie James Mays and Georgia Mays Mays.
She was married
to Earnel Vernon Miller, who predeceased her June 16, 1970. She was a member of Floral Hill Methodist Church and lived most of her life in the Mountain Hill community of Ringgold. She lived in Danville for the past three years and worked for Dan River Mills Inc. as a weaver in No. 4-A weave before her retirement.
Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Layne Miller Travis of Danville; one brother, James Lee Mays of Reidsville, N.C.; six sisters, Rebecca M. Smart of Danville, Mable M. Pruitt of Reidsville, N.C., Mary M. Sommers of Axton, Blanch M. Newton of Danville, Catherine M. Abrams of Camden, N.J., and Ethel M. Johnson of Dry Fork; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by two sons, Lawrence Earnel Miller and Boyd Oliver Miller and one sister, Christine M. McCubbins.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Frank Fuller officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence.

Joseph Oakes
BLAIRS, Va. - Joseph Nalon Oakes, 81, of 4304 Snakepath Road, died at the Woodview Nursing Home in South Boston.
Born May 12, 1920, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Mathie Oakes and Lillie Mae Walker Oakes.
He was married
to Lillian Dodd Oakes, who survives. He was a member of Ringgold Baptist Church and a retired farmer.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include three daughters, Shelby Jean O. Boyd of Ringgold, Frances O. Tate of Danville and Judy O. Simmons of Axton; six sons, Robert Lee Oakes of Halifax, Leonard B. Oakes of Blairs, Larry Wayne Oakes of Blairs, Maynard Allen Oakes of Ringgold, Earl Lester Oakes and Dewey Gerald Oakes both of Dry Fork; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one son, Clarence Mays Oakes, and one grandson.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Pauls Episcopal Church cemetery with the Rev. Jim Hight officiating.

Eugene Perkins
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Eugene McDannald Perkins, 72, of 1184 Lewis Ferrell Road, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at the residence.
Born Dec. 22, 1928, in Halifax County, he was the son of Eugene Thomas Perkins and Elizabeth Hughes Perkins.
He was married
to Rosalie Conner Perkins, who survives. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church and Woodmen of the World No. 127.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of South Boston, include four daughters, Carolyn P. Jacobs of Elkhart, Ind., Barbara P. Messick of Alton, Janet P. Lewis of Powhatan and Vicky P. Garner of Elkhart, Ind.; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one sister, Eula V. Loftis of South Boston.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one brother, Sanford E. Perkins.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harper Davis and the Rev. Bill Leonard officiating. Interment
will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Kenneth Philpott
DANVILLE, Va - Kenneth M. Philpott, 62, of 4091 Ivory Branch Road died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at V.A. Hospital, Durham, N.C. after one year of declining health.
Born Dec. 7, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Benjamin Harrison Philpott and Noradell Adkins Philpott.
He had been a resident of Pittsylvania County since his retirement from the United States Army in 1978.
He was a Staff Sergeant and served in Vietnam for three tours of duty.
Survivors include two sons, Timothy Franklin Philpott of Ellsworth, Maine and Brian Spencer Philpott of Danville; four brothers Glenn T. Philpott, Luther E. Philpott and Clayton G. Philpott all of Danville, and Saford W. Philpott of Dry Fork; and four sisters Levita P. Reynolds of Martinsville, Ruby P. Robertson of Penhook, Margaret P. Hines of Providence, N.C., Patsy P. Eanes of Danville and one grandchild.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with Johnny Robertson and the Rev. Ted Clifton officiating. Interment
will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Boones Chapel cemetery, Penhook. Military honors will be conducted by Fort Lee Burial Detail.

GRETNA, Va. - Reuben Watt Rowland, 91, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born June 16, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Matthew Rowland and Sallie Robertson Rowland Compton. He was married
to Janie Manley Rowland, who predeceased him. He was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church and was a retired employee of the Lane Company.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Rowland Family cemetery with the Rev. R.G. Rowland officiating.

CALLANDS, Va. - Stella Winifred Thibeault Sawyers, 81, of 480 Bloxson Road, died Saturday afternoon June 23, 2001, at the residence.
Born June 3, 1920, in Quebec Canada, she was the daughter of Edward Joseph Thibeault and Winifred Thibeault (both deceased).
She was married
to Osborne W. Sawyer (deceased 12/31/00). She was Editor of the Graham Star newspaper in Robbinsville, N.C. until her retirement. She was a member of Robbinsville United Methodist Church. She had lived in Callands with her daughter since January of this year.
Survivors include one Daughter, Gerri Rowland of Callands, Va.; one Son-in-Law, Aubrey Wayne Rowland of Callands, Va.; one Step-Son, Nicholas Sawyer of Richmond, Va.; Grandchildren, Kimberly Noel Ball Wright of Danville, Va.; Grand-Son-in-Law, Daryl Wright of Danville, Va.; Grandchildren, Buddy Ball of Danville, Va.; Grand-Daughter-in-Law, Tina Phelps Ball of Danville, Va.; Grandchildren, Tracey Sawyer Waltrip of Richmond, Va.; Great-Grandchildren, Victoria Tori Wright of Danville, Va., Ciarra Danielle Ball of Largo, Fla. and Dakota Tyler Ball of Largo, Fla.
A private funeral service will be held at a later date.

John Scruton
DANVILLE, Va. - John Perry Scruton of Danville, VA, 44, died June 20, 2001 at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born May 22, 1957, in Minneapolis. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother, Peggy Sprague of Milton, FL and his father, Gary Scruton of Minnetonka, MN; three children Amanda, Matthew and Ethan Scruton of Danville, VA; three sisters and two brothers, Deborah Nordquist of Milton, FL, Kevin Scruton of Danville, VA; Kathy Tilley (Todd) of King, NC; Terrianne Tawwater of Alamo, TN; Jeffrey Dougherty (Wendy) of Danville, VA; one grandson Jeremy Rogers of Danville, VA ; Nieces and nephews;Teresa Law, Samantha Scruton, Brian Fannin, Alyssa Dougherty, David and Casey Sundy.
A private memorial will be held. Family and friends will be received at the home of his brother, Kevin Scruton 252 Mt. Herman School Rd., Friday, June 22 from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

RINGGOLD, Va. - Ervin Keith Stamps, 41, of 1595 Clarks Mill Road, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at the residence.
Born August 26, 1959, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Wesley E. and Evelyn Stamps.
Survivors include one daughter, Wendy Stamps of Danville; four sisters, Mattie Stephens and Alice Stamps, both of Danville, Peggy Knight of Newark, N.J., and Deloris Strange of Ringgold; two brothers, the Rev. Jackie Stamps and Ronald Stamps, both of Ringgold.
