Alma Meadows
DANVILLE, Va. - Alma Pyron Meadows “Mums,” formerly of 2 Garland Street died Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Mrs. Meadows was born on April 14, 1904 in Cascade, Va. the daughter of Robert Lee Pyron and Nannie Bett Mchon Pyron.
She was married
to Ralph Carrico Meadows, Sr. who predeceased her.
She is survived by one daughter, Marie M. Wade of the Blue Ridge Manor in Martinsville, Va.; three sisters, Lillie Webb of Colorado, Mary Ella Spalink of Arizona and Lucille Reese of Danville; five grandchildren, Jerry Meadows of Danville; Ralph C. Meadows of Dry Fork; Linda Lamona of Breinigsville, Pa; Alice Wyatt of Providence, N.C. and Kathy Water of Cary, N.C.; seven great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and three step-great great grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband Mrs. Meadows was predeceased by two sons, Ralph C. Meadows, Jr. and Alton W. Meadows, five brothers, Vasco Pyron, Charlie Pyron, Robert Howard Pyron, John W. Pyron and Eugene Pyron and four sisters, Annie P. Harris, Bertha Pyron, Mollie Pyron and Sallie P. Reagan.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2001, 2:00 P.M. at Townes Memorial Chapel. Rev. Jim Hewitt will be conducting the services. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 4, 2001, 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at Townes Funeral Home. Other times the family will be at 475 Pleasant Gap Drive in Dry Fork.
In Lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial donations be made to the Danville Sheriff Office “Project Life Saver.”
Larry Minter
DANVILLE, Va. - Larry David Minter, 50, formerly of 13 Milton Ave., died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after five years of declining health and one week in the hospital.
Born Sept. 21, 1950, in Franklin County, he was the son of Howard Green Minter and Viola Hatcher Minter.
He was a member of North Danville Church of God of Prophecy and lived his entire life in Danville. He worked for Dan River Inc. before his retirement and as a carpenter with his father.
The memorial graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Albert Moser officiating.

Len Pannell
CHATHAM, Va. - Len Pannell, 67, of the Climax community, died July 3, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 26, 1934, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Jimmy Lee Pannell, who survives, and Lucille Pruitt Pannell.
He was educated in Pittsylvania County School System and was a woodcutter.
Survivors, in addition to his father of Chatham, include five sisters, Shirley Jefferson of Chatham, Doreacy Logan of Chatham, Stella Bennett and Alberta Royal, both of Gretna and Ammie Johnson of Pittsville and four brothers, Curtis Pannell, Morris Pannell and Sylvester Pannell, all of Gretna and Lewis Pannell of Danville.
He was predeceased, in addition to his mother, by two brothers, James and Paige Pannell.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home Chapel. Interment
will follow at Burning Bush Holiness Church cemetery in Pittsville.

Eugene Stamps
DANVILLE, Va. - Eugene Stamps, 90, of 600 Main St., died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 22, 1911, in Milton, N.C., he worked as a cook at Trailways Bus Station.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Floral Hill Memory Garden cemetery with Pastor Alicia Patterson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of Alease Johnson, 719 Glendale Ave. in Danville.

Norma Swem
MILTON, Fla. - Norma Virginia Oskey Swem, 76, died May 3, 2001, at a local hospital.
She was married
to George E. Swem, who predeceased her. She was a native of Danville, a Red Cross volunteer for over 30 years, active in the Navy Wives Club and Volunteer of the Year in 1990 by Gov. Schaefer of Maryland.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Yakaboski and Jeni Edmonds; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two brothers, Raymond Oskey of Danville and Russell Oskey of Richmond.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband, by one grandson.
The graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. View cemetery with the Rev. Gary Milstead officiating.

Loveline Sydnor
DANVILLE, Va. - Loveline Sydnor, 74, of 1001 Adams St., died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 2, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Otis and Mary Alice McCullough.
She was married
to Joseph Sydnor, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four daughters, Shirley King of Reidsville, N.C., Queen Cobbs and Ernestine Tillman, both of Danville and Gloria Harper of Baltimore, Md.; two sons, Arthur Sydnor of Danville and Albert Sydnor of Baltimore, Md. and one brother, Freddie McCullough of Danville.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Danville with the Rev. James Murrell officiating. Interment
will follow at New Sandy Creek Church cemetery.

Garnett Talbott
DANVILLE, Va. - Garnett Allen “Pete” Talbott, 62, of 809 Kriston Lane, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 18, 1939, in Halifax County, he was the son of Clifton Talbott and Myrtle A. Talbott.
He was married
June 9, 1990, to Pat Jeffries Talbott, who survives. He worked for J.P. Stevens for 30 years before a decline in health. He was a member of Halifax/South Boston Rescue Squad for over ten years and retired from the National Guard. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served 21 years and was a member of South Boston Ruritan Club. He coached Dixie League Baseball in South Boston and was of the Christian faith.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one son, Vince Talbott of South Boston and one sister, Jean Maureen Rickman of South Boston.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. Freddy Vicks officiating.

Devyn Adams
SUGARLAND, Texas -Devyn Marquis Adams, 8, of 16306 Mellow Oaks, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, in Evergreen, Ala., as the result of an automobile accident.
Born Feb. 18, 1993, in San Antonio, Texas, he was the son of Stephen Bilton and Dembris Adams Bilton, who survive. He was a third-grade student at Highlands Elementary School in Sugarland.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include maternal grandfather, Jessie David Adams and paternal grandmother, Bertha Bilton.
He was predeceased by paternal grandfather, Eddie Bilton.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. John W. Tinsley officiating. Interment
will follow at Adams Family cemetery.

Zelma Adams
CASCADE, Va. - Zelma Mae Wilson Adams, 60, of 3354 Cascade Road, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, in Evergreen, Ala., as the result of an automobile accident.
Born Jan. 15, 1941, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of James Thomas Willson and Roberta Adams Wilson, who survives.
She was married
to Jessie David Adams, who survives. She worked in the Sample Department at Pillowtex in Eden, N.C. and was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Cascade.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence and mother of Cascade, include four daughters, Darnita Adams, Danielle Adams Poindexter and LaTonya James, all of the residence and Dembris Adams Bilton of Sugarland, Texas; three sons, Phillip Douglas Adams of the residence, Darryl Adams of Axton and Dennis Adams of Greensboro, N.C.; three sisters, Tempie Marie W. Hairston and Rozenia Toller, both of Danville and Patricia Hunt of Atlanta, Ga. and seven brothers, Otis Wilson of Sparks, Nev., Oliver, Sylvester, Kenneth and Charlie Thomas Wilson, all of Cascade, Samuel Jerry Wilson of Greensboro, N.C. and Lawrence Wilson of Charlottesville.
She was predeceased, in addition to her father, by two sons, Duran and Donald Adams.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. John W. Tinsley officiating. Interment
will follow at Adams Family cemetery.

Allene Coleman
DANVILLE, Va. - Allene Smith Coleman, 81, of 1641 Leemont Court, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Riverside Health Care Center after 10 years of declining health.
Born Feb. 23, 1920, in Caswell County, N.C., she was a daughter of Herman A. Smith and Katherine Allen Smith.
She was married
to William B. Coleman, who predeceased her Sept. 2, 1985. She was a member of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church. She retired from Danville Memorial Hospital where she worked as a registered nurse and nursing supervisor for 41 years. She lived her life in Danville.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Mildred C. Bryant of Danville; one brother, William A. “Bill” Smith of Providence, N.C. and two stepgrandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

DANVILLE, Va. - Haywood Lee Coles, 64, of 1303 Aspen St., died Thursday, July 5, 2001 at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 9, 1937, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of James Coles and Lubertha Allen Coles.
He was married
to Wanda Owens Coles, who survives. He was employed by the Lorrilard Tobacco Company.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Sheena Petty and Diane Guy, both of Danville, and Valerie Lipford of Chatham; four sons, Edward West, Vincent Coles and Elliott Anderson all of Chatham and Peter Coles of Allentown, Pa.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Bland officiating. Interment
will follow at the Highland Burial Park cemetery.
